" Don't book it you won't stay there! "

Booked to stay here after a very enjoyable week back in June 2007. I travelled with my friend and we were looking forward to getting back there with it's many pools, bars restaurants etc.
On arrival we were advised the Manager neede to speak to us, he took us to one side and told us they had no room for us as the hotel was over booked. I demanded an explanation as my holiday was booked six months in advance not a last minute deal. I was given no explanation.
We were moved to the Eden Roc hotel "just across the beach" the rooms had just been refurbished we were told. After three attempts to find us a twin room we took the room as we thought there was no alteranative. We were told we could us both the Aldemar and the Eden Roc facilities. Eden Roc facilities were very poor, All Inclusive meant you could get the odd thing but had to pay for most (including a bottle of water)restaurant staff were poor, food was cold.
On seeing our rep the next day he told us and the other few "Brits" that had arrived that this had been going on for 8 weeks, First Choice hadn't bothered to tell us that this could happen and give the option of staying elsewhere.
The hotel were offering free boat trips, spa treatments provided you signed a disclaimer, we declined to take this offer. Other moved guests were given luxury suites, just a basic room for us!
We were informed by staff at the hotel that the hotel was overbooked by 600 people, an admin error? I think not maybe a ploy to get people into the tired old 70's looking, paint flaking off Eden Roc hotel. You pay to stay in 4 star plus but you get 2 star if you're lucky.
Bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaning staff at the Aldemar are great, work very hard. They are let down by reception staff and some of the management.
A holiday that had been worked hard for and anticipated for 6 months ruined I'm afraid.

Would have given it 9/10 if i had known in advance that the hotel shuts down in the winter. travelled on 13th October, for a weeks break, had two 17yr olds with me so thought it was ideal with all the pools and different restaurants (probably bumping into them sometime). But all the amentites were shut down, only one pool open and one restaurant.
Dont get me wrong the hotel, staff and food was excellent, just like to give a warning to others, if going late in the season be prepared for some amenties closed.

My husband and myself visited this hotel in high season and to be truthful we have booked again for next year already, it was a fantastic holiday very relaxing. Drinks were good in most of the bars, service was good, especially the Chevalier bar in the evening overseen by the manager (Dimitris) and excellent barman (Fitos) and I can't forget to mention the lovely waitresses with their surprises of table snacks every evening, (fruit trees) (crisps) and (Fruit baskets) with sparklers.
The beach bar with friendly bar manager (Georgios) deserves a mention. I was a little disappointed with the cocktail bar it could do with some attention though as staff there were a bit surly and only half filled the glasses and seemed a bit put out when you ordered another drink, perhaps some training would be beneficial.
Our room in the main hotel was clean and comfortable. The hotel and village areas were spotless and staff on the whole were very friendly. The restaurants were very good with a wide selection of food each night and also some delicious desserts. There is also the option to dine at various themed restaurants throughout your holiday. The Chinese being the best, we actually dined there twice. It was actually my birthday whilst we were there and I arrived back at the room that afternoon and had a lovely cake and card from the Customer Relations team at the hotel.
On arrival at the hotel we went for some food at the main pool, lunch time dining room and found no option of diet drinks, after speaking to the manageress who was very helpful, diet drinks were provided. On our next visit the manageress came over and advised diet drinks were now available on tap. All in all a most enjoyable holiday, and looking forward to next year.

We've been to this hotel 3 times now and it gets better every time!
There have been massive changes since 2005 when we were last there. The main hotel and Village hotel are both run together and are both now all-inclusive. I worried about queues and whether the quality of food would be as good as before. I didn't need to.
We visited in May, so I don't know what it would be like in July, but there were no big queues anywhere. There are so many places to eat and get drinks that it was rarely very busy. I would think it probably could get busy in high season as everywhere does.
The Village has been totally renovated with new apartments which were really great. The old pool at the village has made way for a fantastic open theatre and terraced area. They've built a chapel so it's a great wedding venue now. There are also four new pools and another water slide so there are quite a few quiet pools, as well as the main pool where all the action takes place.
Another great change is in the restaurants. There is a large one in each hotel and you can use either. You get tickets for the Chinese and Italian self service and French and Greek a-la carte restaurants so you never get bored with the food.
One of the main problems could be for disabled or elderly people who are not too mobile as there are steps or steep slopes to the beach. No good for wheelchairs. However I saw lots of elderly people coming up from the beach, very slowly!
It's fantastic value if you book early and use the internet. You can sometimes get a good deal via the hotel website but the flights to Rhodes don't ever seem to be cheap. You can't rely on getting a room in this hotel at the last minute unless you go in May or June. The hotel always seems booked.
Have to say anybody who doesn't like this hotel is probably never going to like anywhere.

Hotel is great, loads of pools which you can use throughout the day. Activities were very good, and the entertainment team were absolutely brilliant, although the evening entertainment was not up to 5 start quality, they had no professional acts in, and it was very boring.
Had to either go to the couple of bars that were down the road or get a taxi into Faliraki (good for teenagers!) or Rhodes Town which is lovely by day or at night, lots of nice places to eat and lovely streets to wander around.
Hotel overall was very impressive, I agree about the carpets and decoration in rooms definitely needing an upgrade. Staff friendly and helpful, food mostly good as well.
Definitely recommend it

Communal areas were regally decorated and well maintained.

Bedrooms however were very basic and not at all what we were expecting for a 5star(holiday company's own) rating.

The restaurant in the main hotel was the best we’ve been to on any holiday in Europe. The service was excellent and the food varied, very well-presented and the buffet was constantly replenished.
The pools were great for children- the main pools got very busy and it was difficult to find a sunbed. This wasn’t a problem as the main pool area had lots of entertainment including water-aerobics , which could be quite noisy if you were trying to chill! We found a great pool near our apartment block which always had free sunbeds at ANY time of day so there was no dawn rush to get the towels out.
We absolutely loved the sprawling nature of the holiday village-very conducive to a get-away-from-it-all break. The only downside was that although it's billed as being in Kalithea, it's actually in Kassandra where there is little else to do unless you got a taxi which was quite reasonable and always readily available.
An absolutely superb holiday hotel/village. Service par excellence, and the food in the numerous restaurants was to die for. Numerous pools to choose from as well as a lovely curved bay to swim in the calm sea. The rooms were of a good standard but in need of redecorating, but had air-con and a fridge. Weather fantastic 25-28c, sunny in October. Rhodes (old) town delightful, get away from the tourist tat shops and see the real old town. Overall a wonderful holiday.

Superb Hotel. Was a bit scared of the size as usually stayed in smaller hotels but it was exceptional. Hotel had quite a few blocks - you were taken to yours after booking in, in a golf buggy with your entire luggage, each block had its own pool, but you could use any of the 7 great pools.

Food was great; the choice of deserts was unreal. The rooms were lovely and the air conditioning freezing; there is a great bar across the road and a couple of nice places to have a meal at lunchtime.

Rhodes town is a taxi ride away but shops are great and a wide range not just your usual tat, you do have a bit of a problem getting a taxi back, usually a bit of a queue. Went into Falaraki only lasted a few hours and wanted to go back to Kalithea - we saw a fight that lasted about 20 minutes and spilled over into many of the bars. A few stallholders who lined the streets selling on a night were flattened for no reason.

The only one fault I could give this hotel was the carpets in the corridor could have been a bit cleaner, but that’s just petty, if that’s all I can find wrong. Superb and thinking of booking for 2005.

The evening entertainment is very poor and is done by the animation team who do a good job but with only so many props become very boring , they should be doing proffesional shows , it is meant to be a 4 star plus!!
Also the rooms are not that great , they are clean but i have stayed in better 3 star hotels .
The food is also not very good , if you are a fussy eater like my husband then you will not find anything to eat not even chips , the restaurants they have there are very nice ie chinese , greek and italian .
The rhodes old town is worth a visit and is really nice think next time i would rather stay nearer to there .
Advice: Not much to see and do
Activities: old rhodes town
Good for: Beach
