Sheraton La Caleta Hotel

We booked a Club Ocean view room for our first stay at La Caleta and were not disappointed. The Hotel on first impression is stunning. The beds, as you would expect from a Sheraton, are really comfy and the bathroom is something you definitely want to take home with you! We ate breakfast outside the Club Lounge every day and the choice was what you would expect from a Hotel of this standard. The breakfast, however, is totally self service, so wear comfy shoes as, until you get your act together and know where everything is, you are up and down like a yo-yo. I had one treatment at the Spa which was excellent, however, for me the one bad thing about the hotel is the gym. The Spa has a reception area you can land the Red Arrows in but the gym is very small and not very inviting. There is no air conditioning and no view, just walls although all cardio machines have their own screen. The staff seemed very uninterested when I asked for assistance on one piece and took very little notice when I reported one cross trainer out of action which stayed broken for over a week. I found it hard to get motivated in a gym which plays the same music as the treatment rooms - it is almost sleep inducing! We did not eat any evening meals in the Hotel we never do when we are away, however, one night the weather was particularly bad and we had room service which was not very appetising. We think that this night no one was venturing out (tropical storm in the area) and they could have been under pressure! There are excellent restaurants a short taxi ride away (5 Euros). Try La Vieja which is a great fish restaurant in La Caleta harbour (try the King Prawns). They also have a sister restaurant called La Torita (or somthing like that) which is in walking distance from the hotel. Dinners were costing us on average between £40 and £50 a night which includes a couple of beers, 2 or 3 courses, a bottle of wine and the odd brandy so quite good value. There are also several restaurants along the walk into Las Americas, The Mirador was particularly nice, however when taking this walk of an evening you will know when you have gone too far and it is time to retreat to the calm and serenity of Costa Adeje. One big plus for us was the nudist terrace on the top floor! We have never done this before but we were up there every day as it was so peaceful. Try it - just once! We will definitely return!

We went with our young son (2 yrs old) for a ten day break at the Sheraton La Caleta. It was a great stay: weather was fine for almost all the time, the suite we booked was huge with a wonderful sea view, the hotel was not that busy with plenty of room, the kids play area was great and the pools were really fabulous, the beach was only a short distance away and we had a hire car - so could go for trips too. The staff were very helpful and friendly, even if some weren't always perfect at keeping the room totally turned out. We would definitely consider returning to this area, and probably this hotel - being, in our opinion, the best of the ones on this stretch ('Costa Adeje') and definitely far enough away from the ugly, overpopulated and grim Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos areas. There were a few small downsides to mention (though didn't 'spoil' the holiday as such): - The food: The Japanese restaurant was great, the Spanish was OK (the House Red Rioja was a great wine!), and breakfast was good - but the rest was really average cuisine. Sure you don't go to Tenerife for a gastro trip, but when you're paying close to 100 Euros for two for the dinner buffet and a few drinks, you should expect it to be special - but it isn't. Additionally it seems that all restaurants in Tenerife think that the only veggies kids eat are over-salted chips and limp lettuce with deep-fried processed meat on top - The Kids pool: in the play area is definitely NOT heated (though advertised as being so) - Traffic flow: the whole navigation through the hotel is a bit odd - particularly if you live in the 'North wing' of it. i.e. to get to the Club Lounge/Reception if you take the first lift, you have to go down an extra floor, skirt round the pool, go up some stairs or skirt through the restaurant seating area (and then stairs) to get there. Another example: if you want to go from the entrance to the play area, you either have to go on a 'guided' (i.e. forced tour) of at least three pools, doubling back on yourself several times or go down a floor, back up some stairs, through what seems to be a dead end corridor and then round the mini golf. Basically, it's because the restaurants are across the entire width of the building in the lower ground floor and they force traffic around them However, even though I've waffled on about them - they aren't major points - these things aside, we'd say 'go', you won't be disappointed!

Our 2nd visit this year and its just as good as before with the added bonus of the excellent spa, which was nearing completion during our previous visit in April. This is a fantastic hotel and would be no matter where you placed it, so its certainly put Tenerife on our list of winter destinations. I guess the 2nd visit did allow for a different perspective but our only negative points are the same as those from our previous visit and relate to the complete lack of service around the two excellent pools. We go away to relax and its nice to be able to order drinks and food from your sun bed, rather than having to make your way to the bar every half hour. The hotel must be mad not to capitalise on this as we went without drinks most days as we were to engrossed on books, papers and music etc. I overheard a few people mentioning the same frustrations, so I’m hoping they might just cotton on one day. Our only other slight frustrations, and ones which only became evident due to bad weather were the very basic contents of the mini-bar (2 x toblerone, 1 x kinder egg, 2 x Pringles), which were never replenished during our 5 day stay and the very poor selection of English tv channels (BBC News, Sky News and 1 x Pay Movie Channel). We don’t go away to stay in our room but the weather conspired against us and really rammed home the lack of choice. Brits seemed to outweigh most other nationalities on both our visits and yet the French, Italian, Germans and Dutch were much better catered for with many free entertainment channels and not just news. Overall, a fantastic hotel and extra mention must go the hotels Japanese restaurant, which is just superb!

We stayed at the all new Sheraton Caleta Resort for 5 nights from the 21-26 Nov 2005. This hotel has been well advertised and particularly appealed to us as it is new and seperates itself from your typical touristy hotel. My instant reaction as I entered the resort for the first time is how pleasant and tranquil the reception area is, it is well furnished and sophisticated. The greeting as always is good and as we made our way to our room I felt a sense of wellbeing and was not dissapointed. Our room was quiet, very spacious with a large private balcony and a nice sea view. It was spotlessly clean and the famous "sweet sleeper" beds provided us with a comfortable nights sleep. Although not a fantastic selection of restaurants, what is on offer is of a good quality and is delivered in a sufficient manner. The most appealing part to this resort for us both was the E'spa, it offered world class facilities and was our haven for a large part of our stay. The 2 pools are very good in particular the heated pool, this provided warmth for the small amount of families at the hotel. The hotel has specifically positioned itself away from the hussle and bussle and should you want a lively time then other good resturants and bars are within walking distance. Overall a great addition and the only downside being it has no golf course ! Well worth a visit, we shall both be back.

Stayed here in Mid-October. Had a relly relaxing stay just chilling around the pools and using the spa. The hotel was fairly busy during the day, but still plenty of space around the pool. The Spa was good had a few treatments, all the products used were lovely. Found the prices at the spa very reasonable compared to London prices. Our room was a standard room, plenty big enough - nice sea view and big bathroom. Went to some of the resturants, my favourite being the Japanesse. Would recomnend the Seafood and tapas resturants in Caleta itself, just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Will certainly go back.

Location: The hotel is located in Costa Adeje, in front of the sea, in a quite zone. Its position is a little isolated, there aren't shops, restaurants or pubs in walking distance so you need a car. Description: Hotel is very scenographic, there are two swimming pools in a wonderful tropical garden. You find some restaurants, pubs and a spa. If you want to make sports, you have to exit from the hotel but there are some tennis courts (at Riu hotel) and a golf (five minutes by car). Room: Big room, spotless, painted with a nice peach colour and with a big bed and all the services of a five star hotel. Bathroom is very big with shower and bathtub. Service: Perfect. Food: Breakfast is good with a rich choices but I found better in other hotels. I stayed there for a congress and the 3 dinners-buffet were no great. No great choice and the same things everyday. Sheraton is a good hotel but in the same place there are many others hotels with similar characteristics.

For what I've seen in Tenerife, this seems to be top notch. Sheraton have done a very good job, the resort is spotless with 2 very good pools (one with sea water) and a wide selection of restaurants, although we only tried the Vivace restaurant for lunch and were not 100% pleased with the experience. If you want to experience great food, try El Patio in the Abama Resort, about 15 min by car from La Caleta and managed by Luis Berasategui. Rooms are big and nicely decorated, with huge bathrooms and good view on the ocean. The spa is also very nice and clean (the have also a kind of frigidarium, to cool you off after a sauna or a jacuzzi!) but €35 a day admission fee (€20 if you book a treatment) is very expensive. I'm not a huge fan of the architectural style, but it seems to be flavour of the month in Tenerife and it's definitely nicer than many other concrete monstruosities on the coast. Service was very good, with friendly, multilingual staff who were willing to help.

Stayed at La Caleta during the last week of October, found it a very relaxing and indulgent resort. Rooms are spacious and well appointed each with genuine sea view from private balcony, huge beds but with overly soft pillows(for me!). Food in restaurants is excellent, our favorite being the Spanish restaurant with an extensive and reasonably priced wine list. Recommend the Spanish lamb, but make sure you are really hungry. The pool areas are a delight , with plenty of space and huge swimming areas. Take care with small children though as deeper water is not marked and not always obvious. There were not a vast number of children during our stay, but those that were around were well behaved and did not disturb us. Hire car, it is a necessity! The scenery around the island is stunning, especially the volcanic wastes around "El Teide" which I would rate as more spectacular than the Grand Canyon. It is so new and accessible, it gives you the feel that it has just appeared from out of the volcano (beware altitude sickness if you are not used to walking and climbing above 8000 ft!). Also visit the beautiful village of Masca, but be prepared for a difficult switchback drive!

Just returned from a lovely relaxing break at the Sheraton la Caleta. Rooms are very nice as are the gardens and pool area. The spa provides a wonderful haven for pure pampering with an excellent hydro pool and treatment rooms. Try the hot stones massage - pure unadulterated pleasure although a little pricey! The hotel lacks atmosphere in the evening although the tapas/spanish restarant is very cosy and atmospheric with resident spanish guitarist. For good fish dishes try "Piscis" restaurant in La Caleta (5 mins by taxi or 15 mins walk). A nice atmoshere and excellent fish. La Hacienda restaurant (part of el Duque) is another nice restaurant a pleasant walk from the hotel (must book day in advance though for an outside table as gets busy). Room service was rather poor for the standard of hotel - food late, incorrect orders (on 4 days out of 7 for breakfast) and generally unhelpful service. The pool bar however is excellent and offers a good menu with a buffet lunch option - the staff here were very friendly and service very good. All in all a great hotel that we will return to for a relaxing bit of winter sunshine - beds fantastic by the way, as good as Westin heavenly beds.

Just back from a great warm weather week, but if you have got kids forget it. Kids club poorly managed with no preplanned activities and poor staffing levels and quality. Once this is sorted its a winner. Still had a great break but not a family holiday for those of you looking for some peace and quiet beside the pool. Talk to Marcus, Ruben, Stefano and Fran on the Coral Bar as they are great guys. Worth a go but keep your kids club expectations very low.
