A very friendly, family-run hotel...
9 / 10
Apr 2008, Mrs J Sault

A very friendly, family-run hotel which is ideally situated a few minutes walk from the centre of town (miss out on any late night noise) and yet only a couple of minutes walk to the Clotes ski lift or to the nearest bus stop to travel to the Sportinia lift where beginners go to access their ski lessons.
Breakfast is absolutely fine (despite previous reviews). A variety of hot drinks and cereals are available, along with fruit juice, bread rolls, jams, cheese and ham. There is also a bowl of fresh fruit. The evening meals are enormous but welcomed by those who have burned off a lot of calories on the slopes.
The owner/manageress is extremely friendly and speaks good English, as do most of the staff.
I'd definitely go there again.
PS The Olympic quiz night organised by the tour reps in a central bar was good fun and, despite being late at night, was suitable for older children as well as adults.

This hotel was rated three star, but...
6 / 10
Mar 2008, Ms K Theisinger

This hotel was rated three star, but unfortunately I felt the service was way below that level. The matresses were saggy to the point of being ridiculous & there were no towels in the room when we arrived and although they arrived when we requested them they were removed midweek and not replaced until we asked again. There was plenty of reasonably good food at dinner - they certainly didn't want you to go hungry, but the fact that the whole dinner process lasted for two hours wasn't ideal. Also they took our passports on check-in and refused to give them back until checkout - which wouldn't be too unreasonable if they kept them in a safe but they were stashed just behind the (often unmanned) reception desk in full view and easy grabbing distance.
It is good and close to the Clotes lift, the food is all homemade I think and there's plenty of it, and it is family run in the Italian way - our stay wasn't terrible, but I felt a bit cheated by the three star rating and the slightly poor level of service.

I have just come back from Sauze and...

I have just come back from Sauze and I felt obliged to make a statement. I would say from start to finish this was a great holiday. We were fortunate enough that when we arrived they had had 30cm of snow. When you arrive at the Terrazza be aware that check in is at 3pm so it is worth beating the rush and getting your skis first if you have an early flight.
The hotel is very friendly and as others have commented it could do with a paint job but in fairness for a week away it was not an issue. Breakfast is a basic continental of rolls, ham and cheese. Cereal is also available along with biscuits.
Dinners at the Terrazza were good and you end up with a minimum of 5 course. Salad/small pizzas for starters, then a pasta dish then soup then a pasta dish then dessert. In between this they will offer you second helpings where available.
Sauze as a resort can be expensive so if you would rather eat out be prepared to pay alot for it. If you have paid half board I’d recommend the hotels food, you won’t go hungry.
One thing I would mention about the hotel is that the walk up to it is very steep and can be tiring. But for ease of access to the slopes it is 3-4 minutes from the first lift.
In terms of pubs in Sauze we really only went to two pubs: Moncrons Cocktail Bar and Paddy Mcgintys. Both are completely different. Paddys is a very lively pub. However I think the mood of the pub depends on the crowd. We are 25 so not exactly old but you get alot of drunken louts in there which is fine if you’re into that but a family pub it isn't. Plus I would recommend only drinking Guinness or bottled beer.
Moncrons is a great little pub located further down from Paddys but with a great friendly atmosphere. The owners Mark and Karen are from Merseyside and London. From the moment we entered the pub we was greeted with a smile and had a good laugh with Mark. He was very helpful throughout the week and the atmosphere was brilliant. Football is shown in the pub but this is more of a family pub or a pub to go to for a nice quite drink, and excellent conversation.
The is also a nightclub in Sauze that we visited on two occasions. This is basically the fallout of Paddys and goes on to the early hours.
In terms of slopes Sauze is great the ski pass covers a vast range of different areas and is suitable for all levels of skiers. With the pass you can also ski to France but I would recommend going through the tour operator for this in order to get a full days skiing.
I would certainly recommend Sauze D Oulx to anyone and will probably return there next year.

We had a week at Sauze D’Olux...

Jan 2007, Miss ND Meadows

We had a week at Sauze D’Olux staying at the Terrazza Hotel and ok, it is a steep walk every time you return to the hotel but you get over it after a few days.
The hotel itself was brilliant. The staff were cheerful, friendly and the service they provided was excellent.
The rooms and hotel in general were always clean and, the restaurant was brilliant.
Ok a little old on the decor but the food was fantastic! Whoever thinks it was bad must be part of stupid club of GB! As personally I think a 5 course meal is definitely fantastic! So much food and they always want you to eat more and more of it! Great!
The luggage delivery to and from the hotel isn't ideal as we did experience some problems with a lost bag that ended up at a different hotel but it was delivered to the right place after an hour!
But everything was in order and fine. If you have a hang up about lost personal belongings I suggest a padlock to put-off the blighters who think your bag look interesting!
Overall a great week... just a shame about the lack of snow when we were there.

The hotel was really nice great...

Mar 2006, Mr L Hamilton

The hotel was really nice great rooms, nice bar and really close to the lifts and town centre however I wouldn’t recommend eating in the restaurant, the food was rubbish and the restaurant looked like a school cafeteria!! We went on a half board basis and only ate there once as it was so bad!!
And Airtours have a ridiculous system of leaving your luggage outside the hotel, I wouldn’t recommend this as when we had to leave them outside our hotel the day we were leaving 2 of my friends had their bags stolen all their decent stuff nicked, the bag was then put back and when he opened it, it was full of white paint and hardly any clothes in it!!
