CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR 2008/2009
7 / 10
Jan 2009, rian

went to Princess Dacil for Christmas and New Year first time abroad at this time of year.year. Hotel was spotless and staff friendlt, had ver large room on 15th floor with superb views. Main problem for me was the lack of toilets at ground floor level where much of the entertainment was. Had to go down quite a lot of steps to a lower floor where the bar was only open part of the evenings.Husband said lager was not very good but enjoyed it in the bars in Christianos. Enjoyed the breakfasts especially freshly fried eggs or omlettes but wouldn't personally have evening dinner there again ate out quite a lot. Entertainment evenings was average but we went out of the hotel where there were lots of bars to suit all tastes. heard of four people in hotel having bags/pockets picked but personally were ok. New YEARS eve in town was amazing. Fireworks were terrific, and bands playing in the square until five am. All age groups dancing and welcoming the year happily, just the job!!!

GREAT HOTEL SHAME ABOUT THE FOOD

I travelled to this hotel with my friend and her family, when we first arrived we had to wait 40 minutes while they sorted our rooms as one of our group was disabled, the staff at the hotel were fantastic, the entertainment team were excellent getting everyone involved. there was even an adults only evening which was excellent and they had staff to entertain the kids while the entertainment was showing.my only critisism there was that i witnessed they didnt encourage the kids to wash there hands after using the toilet.
the staff are that friendly that me and my friend actually went clubbing to celebrate a staff members birthday with them, and when they couldnt find us they kept ringing us to check we were ok.
the reception staff were really nice too, very attentive
the food was the only BIG letdown with this holiday, it was the 1st time i have ever been on holiday and actually lost weight. I was told by one staff member that they actually recycle alot of the food that isnt eaten, not sure how true is was but after that i ate out at local restaurants, where the food was excellent
it was an excellent holiday and i would definately go there again i just wouldnt eat there......

Top Class Hotel
10 / 10
Oct 2008, suesalmonuk

We have just returned from this hotel (yesterday 18/10/08) and today have just booked it again for next year.
The hotel was spotless and cleaned every day (the bed was made for you and you got clean towels each day).
We were on 13th floor (we did request a high floor by the way) and the view was brilliant and we had air con. OK sometimes the lift was out of order as too many people were getting in at once; but it wasn't out of order for long, they soon got it working again.
We have been going abroad for years and the food at the Dacil was the best hotel food we have ever tasted; there was so much choice that sometimes we just had a bit of everything as we couldn't decide what to choose. The deserts were lovely, with various cream cakes, ice creams and fresh fruit to choose from.
Evening entertainment was good too (well the nights we did stay around the hotel) particularly the magicians, they were brilliant.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
There was lots to see and do near the hotel. The cheapest place to drink that we found was Ed's just down the hill (for example, on our last night we had 3 and half pints lager, 1 large measure of morgans rum and a can diet coke and it only came to 8E). Ed is a young English man and has lived in Los Cristianos since he was a young lad, so is very helpful if you need any advice (he also speaks Spanish of course).
Another place that we found was the Irish Times entertainment bar, drink is not as cheap as Ed's but not too bad. The entertainment there is really good; two youngish Irish guys singing, playing keyboard and guitar (I know that doesn't sound like a good description but it's really is worth a visit and they make everyone feel so welcome) if you do go there ask them sing "Fairy Tale in New York" for a nice surprise).
If you like animals, you should visit Monkey Park - it's 10E for adults to get in (and I think 5E for kids). Take some fruit, nuts, bread etc. as you can walk amongst the monkeys in some areas and they take the food from your hand. They do sell food at the entrance for 2E and this money goes to maintain the park. Our favourites were the chimps who passed us bits of straw and shells in return for some fruit. Well worth a visit and you can spend the whole day there (there are also other animals not just monkeys). It costs a couple of euros to get to from the hotel in a taxi (just make sure you tell the drive you want MONKEY PARK otherwise he will take you to Loro Park or Jungle Park which are a lot further away and a lot more expensive to get in to).
Oh and if you decide to get a hire car, we booked ours through the hotel (Oasis Hire), at what we feel is a very good rate of 25E per day including fully comp ins.
All in all, we think that this hotel is first class and so is the resort. Highly recommended!

Went for 9 nights - got a room on the 5th floor with lounge - very spacious and spotless - standard of cleaning in the hotel is excellent in all areas. Food was fine - plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner - no matter what time we went to eat there was always plenty of everything. Sunbeds at pool area are very close together but we spent most of our time on the roof terrace (1st floor) - very peaceful - they have big chunky cushions to rent for €1.50 per day for the loungers.
We didnt hang around the hotel at night and headed for some of the local bars - most of them are very small. Couldnt get over staff knocking back shots and smoking while they were serving customers and in most places the glasses were washed by hand in not so clean looking sinks. One English pub had a cat with its bed and food trays beside the bar - the best run pub we found was The Irish Times - its on the first floor over a restaurant called Fados - the biggest advantage of going to a first floor bar is that you are not constantly hassled by guys selling sunglassed etc. I have never been anywhere before where we were hassled so much - one after the other. The Irish Times - professional staff, very friendly especially Clare who moves tables and chairs around so everyone has a seat - air conditioned, spotless and well run. The entertainment was fantastic - Derek and Mark - ask them to sing Fairytale of New York any time of year and you will be in for a surprise!!! They made everyone feel so welcome - great musicians. Will definitely go back

Great bars within walking distance of hotel so ignore any reviews that say otherwise as we had 2 teenagers and one ten year old with us who just loved the bars.down the hill from the hotel is a bar called GREEDY PIG 1 euro for san miguel, desperate dans also a nice friendly bar
One place to go which is not advertised is the monkey park 10 euro for adults 5 for kids, make sure you take fruit and nuts with you as you feed the monkeys and they climb all over you,2hrs of fun well worth the money for the laugh value.

Good food, very close to the beach...

Sep 2008, Mr C Shields

Good food, very close to the beach although entertainment around los cristianos was very limited in comparison to Lanzarote.
Pushy promoters morning, noon and night everywhere in tenerife, including bus stops.
San Miguel lager in hotel was disgusting, don't think the pipes have been cleaned in years. 3.20e a pint and no budweiser...., only barcardi breezer or Smirnoff Ice to choose from, so very very limted stock of drinks for MEN.
Rooms were very clean and staff always happy to help.
Entertainment put on by staff at hotel for Kids during day and night was excellent which generated a good atmosphere at the hotel, thankfully as Los cristianos was nothing to write home about.
The one Irish bar we found on way to beach, the Irish times played the same music every night although drinks prices were cheap. 1.50e for a pint of Amstel.
All in all a very good hotel with lots of activities, friendly staff and good food.

Aug 2008, Mrs A Steward

We had an excellent holiday here; food very good with a wide variety. Rooms very spacious and clean. Staff very helpful and obliging.
Near the beach but beware of rough Atlantic sea and current. Loads to see along the front which is a five minute walk.
Pool very warm but could do with refurbishment. Entertainment fair but loads for children to do and children's club during the day very well run with first class staff.
Would definately recommend this hotel and resort.

We booked our 7 night holiday as a...
8 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs J ROBINSHAW

We booked our 7 night holiday as a last-minute cheap deal so weren't expecting very much. We were extremely pleased. The hotel reception was large and cool and we were checked in quite quickly. Reception staff were friendly and efficient. The transfer time to the hotel was only about 15 minutes which was a real advantage.
We had requested adjacent rooms for our two children to share and, although this had not been guaranteed, was honoured. Our rooms were a lot bigger than expected. A separate bedroom with twin beds and a lovely sized lounge with sofa and chair. We had a TV but the only British channels we had access to were news channels. We paid 40 Euros to have a fridge in our room...well worth the cost. We had cold water when we wanted it and kept milk in there so we could make a cuppa in our room using our £10 travel kettle.
We had rooms over-looking the pool with nice views of the sea too. One draw back was the noise from the entertainment at night which takes place outside. There was also loud music from a nearby restaurant. Having said the noise was a problem, it didn't seem to bother our sons.
The evening entertainment was quite poor...a general consensus of opinion while we were there.
We thought the restaurant was great. We have never seen so much food which seemed to be constantly replenished. There was a big choice and the breakfast omelettes were freshly made by the chef on request. The staff in the restaurant were so very efficient and polite.
Our rooms were cleaned daily, our crumpled clothes were even folded neatly!
Lifts were small but, on the whole, worked OK.
Usual problem with the reserving of sunbeds even though there were signs saying that this is not allowed.
We only did one trip to see dolphins and whales. We chose the Flipper Uno trip. Cost about 33 euros per person. Brilliant trip. We were lucky and saw lots of dolphins and a few pilot whales. Food and drink was served on the boat with a chance to swing from a trapese into the sea! All ages enjoyed the trip. Thoroughly recommend it.
Don't settle for the closest beach. A 10/15 minutes walk around the coast (towards Las Americas) you will find a lovely beach. Had expected black sand but were pleased to find a wide, golden beach which was clean. The sea was clear...no seaweed or jelly fish.
Hope you enjoy your stay if you decide to go. I would specify that you want a lounge though...some rooms were quite a bit smaller than ours.

3 / 10
Jul 2008, Other A T

After saving up all year with my partner for his second holiday aboard we were really looking forward to our stay at the princessa decil, the name said it all it sounded and from the pictures looked fantastic. The reviews were all fairly good cheap and cheerful most said however our stay was far from it and as you will appreciate everybody's view on this hotel is different. When we arrived I have to say the hotel reception was lovely it did take an awful long time checking us in as only one member of staff was there, we then went into the very small lifts to the 8th floor the corridors were very dull yet nothing to complain about (bear in mind this was 10 0 clock at night) we then entered our room and from there it went down hill!!!!!! We asked for a lounge and double room and were given a dingy tiny corner room with twin beds with a shelf stuck to the wall so that we couldn’t even push th bed together it was I have to say clean. The balcony was tiny and was over looking some sort of building site. (they didn’t make to much noise though as we were hardly in the hotel all holiday. The bathroom was the only thing that was ok. The plug sockets were falling off the wall for the phone lines!!!!!!!!! We had no lounge area as requested!! We had no table on the balcony as it was far to small only room for a chair.
Before we went we were aware that there was no air conditioning which has never caused a problem as we have always been able to rent a fan we were able o yet they wanted 40 euros for seven nights and we were there for 10!!!! You could also hire out a fridge which this hotel doesn't include and that was an even higher amount so we ended up buying a fan for about 20 euros!!
The pool was much smaller than it looked so we only went in there once because it was too packed round the edge, a very small pool for a very large hotel. When we complained about the room we were told the price you are paying is the room we got yet after speaking to a couple with children they actually paid less than us and had a fantastic room it was huge!!!! (This may be why there are a lot of good reviews we were probably the unlucky ones)
The breakfast was ok however the egg was cold always!!!! Everything at the hotel you had to pay extra and the drinks were allot more expensive than any of the local places. Overall a total disappointment, as a young couple I really feel as we were not treated with the same respect as the families.
The food at the evening I cannot comment as we ended up even though we had paid half board eating out very night as we heard many people complaining we didn’t take the chance and the menu wasn’t a great choice for my partner (that is personal choice)
If you are a family then you would most probably love this hotel but for young couples I would not recommend it.
As for los christinos amazing brilliant the locals were fantastic there was a faveouite place we went to eat alot and it is just left out of the hotel if you walk about 10 minutes it is just past the Chinese and English pub (I cant remember the name) it is the last place to eat that you come to across from the market.

Jul 2008, Mr TCM Marchant

just got back from a lovely two week stay in the princesa dacil,
it was lovely, all staff very nice, lovely location. i dont know what most people were complaining about te food was fine. as they say you got what you payed for. there was always plenty of choises so you always found something you liked. pool area could have been a bit bigger. and the sunbeds were always nicked by people leaving there towels on them at 7;30 in the morning. then not using them through the day. this was annoying. the only thing to watch out for is the pick poketing in los cristianos. other than that it is a very good place to stay. i worked out in the gym if the hotel everyday to get rid of the tremedouse amount of food i ate. :D

Jul 2008, Miss L Pickering

As a 20 year old the prospect of holidaying with the parents was not the most exciting thought. However, i was very suprised at how good the holiday was.
The rooms were really nice although they could have benefitted from air conditioning. The cleaners did a fantastic job, leaving clean towels and folding up pyjamas.
The food was better than expected. The themed nights were good and there was lots of choice, from english to asian food. The only problem we had was with the toaster which seemed to take forever to cook the toast.
The entertainment seemed very good for the children but was a bit limited for the adults. The hotel would benefit from sorting adult entertainment out as everything finishes at 11 o clock.
Be careful of some of the locals as they seem to find girls an easy target. Walking home from a pub one night, some seemingly friendly locals started talking to me and my sister who were on our own. They seemed nice enough so we spoke to them. The next thing we knew they were trying to get into our bags and do a bit of pick pocketing. Luckily they didnt get anything.
Overall i recommed this holiday to anyone. It is a three star hotel so dont expect too muc. However, it is adequate. Also, Playa de las Americas is a short taxi ride away and includes lots of nightclubs and bars which suited me perfectly.
