Pays your money.........
On arrival noticed a small notice on door describing the hotel more accurately as a pension`
Then met the owner, the formidable Cinzi!!
Basic is the word really.
Shame because with a little investment the Sayonnara could be much improved. Having said that we`d gone to ski all day and the beds were very comfortable, rooms warm, showers fine.
My major gripe would be the "breakfast".Without going into detail ended up not bothering/paying for full english in town!!!!

A Good Basic Hotel

As a party of 4 people we stayed at the Sayonara for one week. The rooms were perfectly adiquate and comfortable with en suite facilities. Some reports we had read complained of thin walls with little sound insulation, we did not find this to be the case. You did get some noise from other rooms in the en suite bathroom. This is often the case where there is a piping duct in the corner of the bathroom! The food was well prepared and adiquate for a two star hotel and second helpings were offered. The staff were polite and friendly. All in all you get what you pay for and this was a budget package. The only difficaulty was that it was a long walk to the ski lifts but for 5€ you could buy a weekly bus pass. My group would like to return again next year.

This hotel is advertised as having a balcony or terrace with every room. However the room we were allocated was 9ft x 14ft . . . this included 2beds, a bathroom and a wardrobe ( not enough room to swing a cat).
The room had 1 small window which got no sunlight as to its location. The window looked out into a covered alleyway which was directly opposite the staff sleeping quarters.
We did ask to be moved into a room with a balcony as promised and were told this was not possible as we had booked a "budget" holiday.
We also found out on arrival that this hotel is very rarely used by British people, so although the staff were were polite and efficient there were language problems. Not one guest was British. The menus and price lists were all written in German.
The hotel itself was spotlessly clean and the food, although catered towards the German guests was edible.
Please be aware before booking this hotel, you may be the only British there!!!!!!!!

Was very dissapointed with the hotel!...

Was very dissapointed with the hotel! The hotel was very small nothing like as the picture shown. The rooms were very small a bit like a prison cell. Me and my friend were going to sit on the balcony but only found one chair so our plans changed. Used the toilet from down stairs and the water from the tap was brown. Had a good time boarding tho may return but to a different hotel.

We have just returned from our week...

We have just returned from our week in Sauze, staying at the Sayonara on a late deal. I've done about 20 resort hotels in 30 years of skiing. I don't normally bother with reviews, but I found some of the comments elsewhere decidedly chirlish, so I have broken the habit to give some balance. Firstly, it is important to remember that this hotel is rated two star, so it's for people on a budget. The hotel is a typical 60's effort and hasn't had a lot spent on it in 40 odd years. It is situated handily towards the bottom of the resort, close to the main coach park, the start of the bus route and next door to a tobacconist. There is a supermarket across the road and the main village starts in about 150m walk. No coaches are allowed in the village, so you have to walk from the coach park drop off area to your hotels (wherever they are). You can buy a bus pass from the fag shop for 5 euro each per week, it's essential because it's all uphill to both the Clotes and Sportinia lifts, 450m and 1km away. The hotel has a ski store. The Sayonara only occupies the first 2 floors of a big building, so there are only in fact about 20 rooms. The decor is ancient, the walls are very thin and the furniture is no more than functional. The beds are all singles, but not camp beds and acceptably comfortable. Most importantly, the hotel is clean and tidy throughout, rooms are tidied every day. The food at the Sayonara is typical 2 star fare, pasta, chicken and pork Italian style. No frills but usually with seconds on offer and perferctly edible. Breakfast was a choice of cereal or rolls (hard rolls as in virtually all of the hotels I have ever stayed in) with ham and cheese. The hotel is run by a couple assisted by a few staff. The wife is strict with the "rules", which are based around the fact that the walls are so thin!! However, all are pleasant and more so if you are prepared to try some basic Italian (no more than "good morning", "thankyou" & "ciao"). When our 10 year old neice was ill on arrival, the wife was kind enough to get a room ready for us over an hour earlier than scheduled. Hubby runs the bar in the evening and will do a good deal on a bottle of local plonk for about 4.50 euro. He was a local champion ski racer and will have a chat and a beer if you make the effort. So, all in all, a decent basic budget hotel, which I would use again if cash was tight.

As part of a group of 35 eight of us spent a week in the Sayanora Hotel and would like to add our comments.
Prior to our holiday we read drastic reports and were all very apprehensive. However, as we had booked this thro' Panorama felt it could not be that bad as we had travelled with Panorama on several occasions and could never find any fault with them. So, we just decided to trust Panorama.
Remember; "The Sayanora" is rated as a two star hotel and as such one can't expect the same decor as a higher rated hotel. However, our room was spotless including the bathroom. This was cleaned to perfection on a daily basis. Towels and bed linen were whiter than white and towels were changed daily. The beds were also very comfortable.
On our arrival, the owner of the hotel was very helpful and made sure to let us know that she was on hand with any problems we might have which, I personally felt, was a very good start to know who was taking responsibility.
As for the rest of the staff and I have to mention Carmen, in particular. Carmen was our waitress and more than friendly and had a beautiful smile every day. Nothing was too much for her.

In fact, I would say the staff were like family to each other. I could never pronounce the owner's name "Chientia" I think. Sorry Chientia, if that is totally wrong. But you were great fun. Expecially, organising that wedding. We wont say any more on that.
The food was served to us each evening, which I like as in a lot of hotels in ski resorts, it is mostly self service (maybe not in Italy). I wont say the food was excellent but it was definitely very adequate. Well what do you expect for the small amount of money we paid for a week. €520 which included our flights and transfer. And the drink was cheap all over Sauze D'oulx.
We spent all of our "Apres Ski" in the "Ghost" which we ski'd to each evening. €10 for 4 pints of Stella beer up to 7 p.m. I know that because that's what I drank. A Glass of red or white wine €1. Can't get over it. The staff there great and great music from their music system. Tho' personally, I like the live band.
The skiing was second to none. We have a varied group and this was enjoyed by all.
I could go on and on.....
But THANK you all in the Sayanora for your friendliness and sense of fun.
On behalf of the Doherty, Fitzsimons, McColgan group.
Angela

Apr 2007, Mrs B Schooner

The hotel itself was very basic, rooms small to average although our friend’s room had bare wires to the bathroom light!
Facilities in the hotel were minimal, a TV room/bar and a dining room.
The food was naff, we ate out most of the time, breakfast consisted of stale bread plastic ham and cereal, dinner was unusual we stopped one night for Dinner and that was enough!
Family that run the hotel can be very rude and ignorant, unless that is just down to the language barrier. On the leaving day we had to carry our cases down 4 flights of stairs and we got tutted at because the sign on the walls said not to drag your cases! No mean feat down all those stairs.
That aside the actual resort was absolutely buzzing, the bars were good especially Paddy McGintys, fabulous staff very friendly and look out for the Happy hours.
If you plan to go to Sauze D’Olux the Après Ski is brilliant but only stay at Sayonara if you intend to be out all the time!

Very basic hotel. I thought the photo in the brochure was ever so slightly misleading - in fact there was only a small corner of the hotel shown.
Is this because it is so ugly it would put people off?
Firstly the good points : food was good; the hotel is at the lower end of Sauze so you stand a pretty good chance of being first on the packed ski bus; there is a tobacconist next door; camp beds were surprisingly comfortable; it is warm.
BUT - I stayed there with my 2 children but could not unpack fully as we only had one small drawer each.
When you have a load of ski gear this is a real problem; we could hear all conversations from people in adjoining room as we were only separated by a thin door.
We knew exactly when the people in the room above were going to the toilet as the sounds were very graphic; the decor is horrific!
Not normally a problem as it's not very high on the list of priorities but this is bad. Fake wood panel walls just don't give you the feeling of staying in a nice mountain resort enjoying a week's skiing; the shower mats are a death trap.
If you must stay here, remove them; a lockable toilet door would have been nice. I say door - what I mean is screen.
Very small rooms. Just enough room to walk around the beds.

Sauze's a good resort, but what ever...

Apr 2006, Not Specified

Sauze's a good resort, but what ever you do don't stay here! The fact that it's pretty basic, the walls are made of cardboard and you sleep on things similar to camp beds didn't bother us too much (in the end we just wanted somewhere cheap to kip with at least some warm water, which I have to say we had).
However we did have a problem with the woman in charge who was incredibly rude and slightly scary.
When one of the bathrooms flooded with sewage, they were particularly unhelpful at sorting it out. No apologies, no smiles, no nothing really. Don't do it!
