This hotel is not great, let’s get...
3 / 10
Oct 2007, Mr T Howitt

This hotel is not great, let’s get that straight from the start. However, when you pay £129 for a week half board, I find it hard to complain. You need to remember that a hotel in a ski resort is somewhere to change and to sleep. If you want a drink, go out to a bar!
Having said that, this place is weird. My friend and I booked last minute and our room was huge, with 2 bedrooms. However, the wall between them was only about 7 feet tall, so if anyone snores, you can’t shove them in the other room! This place is not 3 star at all. It would be lucky to get 1 star. However, it’s not particularly dirty, it’s not unhygienic, and it was warm when it was minus 10 outside. We saw one or two other rooms, and they were a lot smaller. Our balcony was fenced off at the french doors, and opposite was a pub, which fortunately wasn’t too noisy at night.
The food in the hotel was hot, and that about the best of it. It was edible, but I could not tell you exactly what it was we were eating. The place is run by a Romanian family. Mother seems to hang about at the bar area in the restaurant making sure people pay their daily bills. Father is in and out of the kitchen, and seems to do all the tidying up. It was an odd set up, to say the least. However, I kept telling myself this cost £129. I think if I had paid what the advertised prices were, in the region of £370, I would have been really quite upset.
It’s a 10 minute walk up the hill to the Clotes lift, which is where the decent skiers should go from, but beginners have to meet at the Sportinia Lift, which is much further to walk to, and you will need to get a bus. The skiing in Sauze is exceptionally good, and you can use the whole Vialattea area to broaden your experience. Sauze is lively, but not stupid like it used to be. Paddy McGintys Irish bar is fun, always something going in, and a great meeting place. You can get a decent fry up in the morning here as well.
Sauze is so good a resort, 23 of us are going back Feb 2008, but we are not stopping at this dive. Was it worth £129? Yes. Because we got a great weeks skiing and flight for that price, despite the awful service and the dingy atmosphere. But it’s reasonable central, and if all you want to do is get hammered and go to sleep, it’s acceptable.
Sauze gets 10 out of 10. The Sportina gets minus 6, giving an average score of 3. If you have a choice to stop somewhere else in this resort, I strongly suggest you take it.

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in....

Sep 2007, Mr W Douglas

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Dirty, cold, unpleasant staff, smelly, dangerous (bare wires hanging out of the plug socket, carpet coming away from the stairs). Stay elsewhere.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel....
1 / 10
Jun 2007, Miss J Williams

I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Having worked in the hotel industry for 12 years I can spot a good hotel. This hotel did not meet my expectations at all.
The bedrooms are dirty, there was dust balls the size of mice underneath the beds, the curtains did not fit the windows they were more like pieces of material thrown onto a rail in the middle of the window as opposed to covering it.
The heating was not working in the room for the whole of the stay, when the temperature is -4 you need the heating on.
The food was awful my kids hardly ate at all, which meant extra expense to ensure that they had something. Luckily we were seated next to some very nice people on the next table; I think it was laughing about the food and a sense of humour that got us through the hunger pangs in the restaurant.
To add insult to injury you were treated like you were going to do a runner from the table without paying your bill every evening. On the first evening I asked the waitress for some cokes for my kids and she somehow translated that I wanted cokes but had no money to pay for it, before I knew it I was surrounded by the manager, this waitress and somebody else telling me if I wanted drinks with the meal I had to pay for them.
I had to take my money out of my pocket and show that I was going to pay. I was absolutely appalled and also completely embarrassed by this. They have no idea of customer service whatsoever.
The bathroom was filthy and it had a very dated tank above the toilet for the hot or should I say luke warm water. This tank held enough water for 1 person to get a very quick shower and then took forever to refill and as I said only heated it to what can only be described as luke warm.
This hotel had a strong smell of drains as you walk into it from the outside that the girl on the reception desk/ bar tries to hide with Joss sticks unsuccessfully. You could also smell the drains in the bedrooms as well at times.
I can only say that this was not a pleasant experience at all staying at this hotel and I would NOT recommend it to anybody.
A hotel I will highly recommend in Sauze D’Olux is Gran Baita excellent, place to stay. See hotel for review.

This hotel is totally disgusting,...
3 / 10
Feb 2007, Miss J Attewell

This hotel is totally disgusting, everything from the smell when you walk in to the food and attitude of the staff.
The rooms are dark, dingey and extremely basic.
The bar is a joke that smells the sewers with satellite TV that has an astonishing 1 channel, which is MTV in Italian.
The restaurant is absolutely diabolical, the food is processed rubbish, no drinks are provided with the meal and the drinks that you MUST get from the bar are seriously over priced, the same bottle of water that is 29 cent next door is 3euro in the bar.
The fruit that you are given for breakfast is actually mouldy and look as if it’s been on the slopes its self.
Now for the fun part.
The attitude of the hotel staff is shocking. The whole holiday we received a bad attitude from the waiter, on our last night after dinner we made a little home video of the hotel, to show where we were staying.
After we filmed the restaurant we headed back down stairs, the waiter with the attitude came yelling at us down the stairs saying we were not allowed to do this, it is not normal behaviour - filming the hotel?
We contacted the rep who agreed we'd done nothing wrong. 20 minutes later we went down to the bar to get a drink and he was there. We suffered a barrage of abusive language in front of other guests and the bar maid.
When speaking to the hotel manager the next day, he said we had done nothing wrong, we could film what we like from the hotel and he is very sorry.
A formal report was filed against this waiter by the holiday company, but I’m sure nothing will be done.
Stay well away from this hotel, bad food is a little expected but bad attitude, being singled out and being bullied is not.

We were due to stay at the Sportina...
1 / 10
Feb 2006, Mr R Scrivener

We were due to stay at the Sportina which is rated as three star. On entering the hotel the first thing to you will notice is the foul smell of sewage from the defective drainage system.
The rooms were extremely basic and in poor condition. The bar shown in the photo is open for one hour every night with the restaurant. The gym is a mystery. The hotel appeared to be in a dilapidated condition, not the 3 star condition described in the brochure.
A group of nine of us were due to spend a week there but we insisted on alternative accommodation. If you have no sense of smell and a liking of 'Faulty Towers' this is the place for you.
