Pension Faistenauer Hotel

We stayed at the Pension Faistenauer in Soll over Christmas 2011. We found the owner to be very friendly and helpful. This 2 star B & B offers a buffet breakfast with rolls, grey bread, cereals, cheese, cold meats, jams, orange juice, coffee and various teas. A previous reviewer’s comments about staleness was probably due to not being accustomed to Austrian grey bread which is less refined than English bread, but contains much more goodness. Our en-suite room was comfortable, always clean and never ran out of hot water (although sometimes it took a while to come through).
Its central location meant that good value restaurants and bars were within a 5 minute walk. Our fears that a central location may cause interrupted sleep were unfounded as the après-ski bars were on the outskirts of town. There is a church nearby which rings the bells at 6:45 in the morning, but that was not an issue for us. The ski hire shop Sport Mayr is opposite the B & B and offers good quality ski sets for cheaper prices than those chosen by the travel agency. A tip for skiers and snowboarders is to leave your equipment at the tobogganing rental by the ski lift - 10 euros/week. It is a comfortable 15 minute walk to the station in the morning and saves the hassle of wondering whether the next over crowded ski bus will actually stop and pick you up.
