hotel lovely
Hotel lovely and spread out. Views from our balcony were wonderful. We went near the end of October and unfortunatley for us everything was shutting down. Protaras was like a ghost town as was Penera where the hotel is. We travelled on a Wednesday half way through our half term week and by the saturday the reps had packed up, the pool bar was closed and it felt like a typical end of season resort. Pool was freezing, could have done with it being heated for that time of year. Electricity was off a lot in the corridors and no lift service for most of our stay, not much fun on the top floor. However Location said it all, beautiful gardens, nice food, friendly staff, clean and spacious apartments. We are going back next week 18th Oct before half term this time so we hope that he entertainment for our son will be in full flow and he won't be bored this time. It would have been good if we'd known about the lack of entertainment though as we would have gone earlier.
large, clean and lively!
me, my partner and our 10 month old son visited the marlita beach for 2 weeks on 13th september. we enjoyed the holiday very much. the hotel is very clean, we has no problems with ants or any other insects. the room was cleaned every day except sunday and the cleaners are lovely, very friendly. plenty of towels etc and the showers are fabulous with plenty of hot water. the kitchen equipment was good, enough utensils to get by. there is a microwave which was excellent for us having a baby it made life much easier. the bedrooms are spacious with plenty of cupboard space. we had a nice big balcony with a table and chairs although our view was rubbish!! the entertainment was good. the team worked hard, there was always something going on. the food from the pool bars is good and averagely priced, the village salad is fabulous! there is a special on each day. the drinks were a little on the pricey side in the hotel but it was the same in all the hotels. we didnt eat in the restaraunt at the marlita as there were too many nice places to try in the towns. theres a little strip of bars and restaraunts about 5 mins away or you can easily walk to protaras which takes about 20 mins along the beach path or about 30 mins along the main path. we had to use the main path because of the pram. its a nice walk and there are some bars along the way for a break. our favourite was "malmia's". they were lovely, really friendly and it was lovely and clean so i could let the baby out of the pram and not worry. there is a restaraunt along the way as well called "superS" and that was lovely and very cheap, it was always busy and a lot of cypriots ate there which i think is a good sign. the beach at the marlita is small and very stoney but the sea is nice. the best beach is in protaras but we stayed mainly by the large pool at the marlita as the baby ate the sand!! on the whole a very pleasant holiday and i wouldnt hesitate to go back.
not 4 star
stayed for only 1 week thankfully. Not up to 4 star standard by any means. Apartments although adequate for family of 4 cleanliness of rooms are dire. Not that suitable for couples as it is catering for families with small children. ANTS are a problem in rooms, cleaners did spray sink but they just keep coming back. weather was nice although it was windy
Mixed Bag - looks good on the outside but far from clean ....
Sorry - this is long, but it’s balanced as I would not normally leave a review, but here I make an exception. Marlita & Cyprus in general grows on you - we are not going back anytime soon, but overall being based here for 2 weeks, we came home pretty relaxed and with a good tan, so that’s a major plus for this place but with a little care and attention the Marlita could have been so much better. The location is right on the beach and the pool area is very big and can be as busy or as quiet as you want it to be as the pool has a large pool sun deck and a large garden that leads down to the beach so you have the best of both worlds - the weather in Cyprus is great and the locals (more Eastern European staff than locals) were pretty friendly once your paying and leaving a tip. The sea is also quite warm so great for swimming etc. We also felt quite safe here with no sight of any crime or any trouble and everybody seemed well behaved and the location at night was thankfully quiet once Elvis has stopped signing in the local pub, which was usually by 12.30am - and the air con let you have a good nights sleep as it’s quite warm at night too. On the downside, my partner and I checked in @ 8am and were given a key and pointed to our room, which we found 15 minutes later. The apartment had a really bad smell, had plenty of damp and the furniture had ingrained dirt and the bathroom had plenty of fungal growth. On closer inspection there were lots of ants and stagnant water outside. We could not accept that. We were left waiting 4 hours to get another apartment in a jointly owned block beside the Marlita which was of a better standard but we could only have it for 2 nights, upon which we were moved again back to the Marlita proper to be given a better apartment than the first one, but which again had some significant hygiene problems - fungal growth, stains on the sofa, and just a general feel of being a bit grubby - the balcony furniture was disgusting - we brought the kitchen chairs out everyday, but hey we eventually got an Apt. that we could live in for the remainder 11 nights, but we had a constant battle with the cleaning lady to stop her "cleaning" it again with a dirty mop and leaving suspect sheets and towels that could have done with a good bleach and boil wash. The pool surrounds were also dirty with fungal growth in the guttering on the edge of the pool which was really obvious as it was old and some sections had been replaced which were snow white compared to the dull black of most of the pool surround - we didn’t see the pool cleaned or the deck hosed down or the beds wiped for the 2 weeks we were there, so avoiding the cigarette butts, ants, stains and muck from the garden meant bare feet were a bad idea, but it didn’t stop us swimming and the water was quite warm and at least looked clean but the bottom of the pool had plenty of "bits" sunk around the edges, and I did end up with an ear infection as I love swimming, but cant 100% blame the pool on that as I swam in the sea quite a bit too. The Marlita is a good 20 minute walk into Portaras, there is a short cut along the sea shore, but its a dark dirt track with no lighting at night and the rep didn’t advise walking that way, so if you wanted to go into town its was £4CYP and £5CYP back so about £11 GBP or €16 for a return trip into town which was less than a 5 minute trip in the taxi which was the dearest taxi I've been in for a long time and the public transport was very poor.(€40 return to Ayia Napa - 15 minutes) There are some bars / restaurants near the Marlita but for a two week holiday you will find yourself in Portaras pretty regularly which if you’re not up for the long walk can add up to quite a lot. Food & Drink I found generally more expensive than either the UK or Ireland as I have lived in both, which when compared to Spanish resorts etc. is slightly disappointing as the quality is no better. Overall, the Marlita could do with a really good clean a lick of paint, some fresh fabric and someone to put the customer back into service so that you get value for your money - then this place could be paradise......... As I said, it grew on us, we might go back next time it’s given a good scrub and the taxis stop charging a ransom! Bring your marigolds and enjoy it. Alan UK/IRE
Not a 4*
Having just returned from a 2 week holiday from Marlita Beach I feel also let down by the accommodation standard. Marlita is advertised as a 4* hotel and at best I feel it is a 3*. My sister booked into Domniki Hotel with Olympic, which is classed as a 2* and her room was both cleaner and had modern furniture, the pool bar was excellent and the locaton was also right on the beach. Upon arriving at the reception area I immediately got a poor impression of the hotel, as the area was both dull and had a mixture of dated tables and chairs within it. Our room was dated, dirty, the mirror was tarnished and rusty, the growting around the bathtub was black, the tiles in the bathroom didn't match, the crockery in the cupboards were actually very dusty and I had to wash everything down before we could use it. The room had an ant problem and be warned, if you do put any food in the cupboard, seal it, I had to throw away cereals and snacks that were ridden with ants. The pool bar is quite expensive, I fortunately had no children with me, but I felt for those families who had, as the food was circa 4.50 cyp for a toastie, which came with fries, which when having a small glass of pop x 2 came to over 10 cyp for a snack, which in our terms is circa £12 for a sandwich. The evening entertainment is OK. It caters for everyone although I felt the open bar area, which is next to the pool with it's plastic tables and chairs to be more suitable for daytime activities and not of a 'lush' standard that I would prefer to be in when having an evening drink. All of this said, I can vouch for the location, we had a lovely sea view room, which was the ice breaker for us. There is a path on the beach that if you turn right out of the hotel and follow it down to Protaras, you will be at the main town within 15-20 minutes. The weather was also unbeatable.
Absolutely Fantstic
A brilliant holiday - brilliant hotel - excellent service in hotel, and by all greeks! They can't do enough to help you!! You will not be disappointed!
Marlita is not to be missed by ANYONE
We came to Marlita on the 3rd of October, and stayed for two weeks. The rep was very friendly and helpful. Our only complaint throughout the whole fourteen days was the first day as we had had no sleep (our flight was delayed) and had to go to the welcome meeting at ten thirty. The hotel: The hotel was satisfactory. Although we did suffer from having ants all over, and the spray that the receptionist gave us wasn't affective at all. We had a few cockroaches, but they were easily gotten rid of. We were on ground floor, and the walls/floors are very thin and you could hear every single thing. So not very good if you have noisy neighbours! However, it was of good standard. The cleaner came in almost everyday, and we came back to our beds made and clean towels. The hotel is literally ON the beach and it makes a good change from walking about ten miles just to reach it! The food: Very good! We went half board in our last week for four days - And we do not regret it, it was worth every single penny. The staff are very friendly, and the manager was always there to do you a favour or just to make you laugh. The food varied eachnight from kiesh to a BBQ. Something for everyone as the selection is very wide, and as much as you can eat/drink. We were satisfied with the meals eachtime. The entertainment: Probably the best part of our holiday. Chris, Collette, Damo and Aeron work really hard and it was visible everyday. There's daytime activities by the pool (Giant Jenga, French bowls, adult/kids water-polo and loads more) and entertainment at night starting from eight. Although a lot of it was for younger kids, everybody could join in and they all kept us amused. Me and my sister are both teenagers and actually got up to do the club dances! Something which we haven't done for about eight years. THAT'S how infectious they are. There was even OAP's getting upto dance - Just goes to show it doesn't matter how old you are. The pool/beach: Very clean, with the bar right next to you. A lot of sunbeds, but if you want a pool-side one, you have to get up quite early to get one otherwise you have to settle for one further back. there was a German hotel next to us, and they were among the people who came in and layed their towels on a sunbed at about six in the morning! A word of warning though - The pool is FREEZING! We got a surprise by finding out that you actually have to PAY for the sunbeds on the beach. How cheeky is that? So we stayed by the pool (in our FREE sunbeds!) and only went down to the beach to go into the sea. The shops: About a twenty minute walk from Marlita. Loads of gift shops and food shops for all. Quite cheap as well, but we only went a couple of times. (too busy lazing by the pool!) Overall, a fantastic holiday. Would definitely recommend for next year (this season is about to end I understand?) A holiday to remember.
Marlita was fantastic, couldnt fault it!
My family and i stayed at the Marlita Beach Hotel for 2 weeks, in July 2002. Made a good choice.....everything about the Marlita was perfect. Only about 100metres from a little Bay, ideal for snorkelling, went SC but the food available on sight was really nice, good value for money aswell, as the meals were quite big! Location......perfect. Quieter than Protaras itself, but within walking distance of Protaras "strip", which was busier. Only arond 300 metres from the local Supermarkets, which had everything you could want. Loads of quality Restaurants nearby, good Bars and a few shops. All in all, we would rate the Marlita as probably the BEST holiday we have ever had. Even our view from the balcony was perfect..... pool AND seaview, just perfect............ 10/10. xx
fantastic place.
we arrived july 31 for 14 nights, the people are very friendly and very helpful. the hotel is very clean the pool area very clean and safe. would certanly go back here again. I went with my husband and two children aged 17, 11. there were things going on all day the entertainment was very good, the reps worked very hard all day.
