Enjoy the differances
from A TripAdvisor Member
It is hard not to like Kitzbuhel and the Strasshoher was a more than satisfactory place to stay.We stayed for a week and the food was good and lots of it, rooms were clean and warm..but the bed could have been better.. and the staff very helpful. To those who feel the hostess was a little cool..she probably was, but we were in Austria..and part of the fun is the differing manner of people. She was never rude, very professional and looked after us well. I say..enjoy the differance!
Unfriendly hostess
from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just returned from a two week stay at the Hotel Strasshofer, although the hotel was nice enough, the hostess who was named the Ice Maiden by some of the guests, was surley and rude, she make the guests feel uncomfortible in her presence, she rarely smiled, she also made you feel she was too high and mighty to serve food and drinks, as she sailed through the dining room with her nose in the air. Another complaint was the food, although the breakfast was average, the evening meals were ususally very salty, and dry or served with very little gravy, and lacked fresh vegetables, the so called salad bar usually consisted of a bowl of lettuce one of tomatoes and another of cucumber, and a bowl of things such as kidney beans and pasta mixed together, the only decent meal was the farmers buffet once a week, which consisted of baked potatoes and a selection of roast meats, and a choice of sweets, not much to recommend two decent meals in 14 days. Kitzbuhel is a beautiful place, but don't let the hotel you stay in spoil your holiday.

We stayed at the Strasshofer in June 2005.The room was OK and the hotel location was very good. The food was quite good but no choice was offered. However, this seems a very unhappy hotel. In the main this was due to the attitude of the hostess towards her staff and guests. We would highly recommend Kitzbuhel but not the Strasshofer Hotel.
Unfriendly people - especially toward Americans!

We were never made to feel welcome in this hotel. They made a small attempt of being hospitable when we got there. Since we did not arrive until late in the evening, they told us they had dinner waiting for us in our room. This "dinner" consisted of hard/stale bread and a few slices of cheese. Better than nothing I guess. Another evening we returned to the hotel afer a long day of skiing and we were about 10 or 15 minutes late for dinner. When we arrived, we walked into the dining room just to say hello to some people that we knew. Before we knew it, the hostess (who is also one of the owners) came in and said "dinner is over!" She and her husband, who own this hotel, were very rude to us all week. Not a friendly place and I would not recommend it to anyone. Everything else about Kitzbuhel was wonderful! My wife and I had a great time with the two other couples that went on this trip with us.
Where's the Heat???
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Hotel Strasshofer on Sat., March 5th for one night. The hotel location was good and the room was small but nice. The problem was, the heat did not work in the room when we checked-in. We alerted the lady at the desk at 5pm on our way out and she said she would have it fixed by the time we returned that evening. Upon return at 11pm....still NO HEAT and the front desk was closed for the night. It was a very cold and unpleasant night in a 170 euro room.. At check-out the next morning, I told the same lady that the heat was never fixed in the room. Her comment was "Yes, I made a note of the problem" and charged us the full amount. No apologies or emotions where shown at all by her. I would NEVER stay here again nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone.
Very Rude Staff

I agree with previous poster - just returned from Kitzbuhel last week. Enjoyed the holiday, but one main negative memory was the rudeness of the staff. They were surly all week and when asked a question would give a brief reply while continuing to walk away from you. The food was fine and the room was nice enough - large enough for 3 sharing. Overall, I would not recommend the hotel because there were over 20 of us spread across the resort - the rest mainly in slightly cheaper hotels, but with friendly staff. We had the audacity to ask for extra towels the first day and this was met with a rude reply that we had enough for 3 people. I wouldn't mind, but the supplied towels were rags! I'm ranting on now - but am still insulted by how they treated us. I never once spotted a smile from any of the staff, except the chef on buffet night!
Rude staff

This was our second trip to Kitzbuhel. We had a group of six , three rooms. The rooms are small but nice. The food is ok, we have had better breakfasts at other hotels. The owners were just rude. They were surley and all times. If you asked a question, they told you to call a tour operator. We were 10 minutes late for dinner and they wouldn't serve us, and told us so very rudely. We had a drink in the bar almost every day and even after seven days, they didn't know what room we were in, despite only having 16 rooms. I would pass on this hotel, there are many others to choose from.
Lovely, intimate hotel

Stayed here over Christmas, our room was a bit small but very comfortable with feather duvets and pillows. Very nice traditional style decor and big bathroom with lots of hot water. Friendly, helpful staff and a great breakfast overlooking the main pedestrian street from the window seat in the dining room. Perfect location in the center of this incredibly beautiful town, about 10 minutes walk from the ski lifts. Good value for the high quality it is. Really enjoyed staying here and plan to return in a year.
booking cancellation

Unfortunately we were unable to stay at the hotel. I am booking a trip for Feb 2005 for 30 of us comming from South Africa. I contacted the Hotel in April this year, and on the 17th of May had my booking of 9 double rooms confirmed. I asked to pay deposit but they informed me that deposits were only necessary by 1 September. Needless to say, on June the 16th they wrote to me informing our booking was cancelled as a tour operator had contacted them and also wanted the rooms. I feel this treatment was unaceptable and as the resort was quickly filling up have had to split our group between 2 hotels. If this is the way they treat their guests it is probably a blessing that we are not staying there. Our business is obviously not important enough.
What a great hotel!! Small, freindly and very quaint! Typically Austrian.

A fantastic hotel which i would recommend to anyone. Its situated on the main pedestrianised street in the heart of Kitzbuhel. Although small in size this adds to the character which it exudes in abundance. It has a very Austrian feel throughout in terms of the decor. The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it. Sunbed and Sauna upstairs. Excellent value and would definately go back whether i was on a budget or had just won the lottery.
We stayed at here January of this year, the only thing i could possibly compliment about the hotel is the location! The staff were rude and unhelpful and the food was awful, after the first we ate out every evening. Brand new make up of mine had been tampered with (all of... more
