Absolutely Horrific!!! Missing items and rude staff!!

Jun 2011, aimz11

We stayed at here January of this year, the only thing i could possibly compliment about the hotel is the location! The staff were rude and unhelpful and the food was awful, after the first we ate out every evening. Brand new make up of mine had been tampered with (all of the packaging had been ripped and it had clearly been used. My perfume also 'vanished from the room' only to be found when my partner turned the room upside down and pulled the bed out where we discovered it had been wedged between the headboard and the wall. We also found another item of brand new make up pushed under a bedside cabinet (my make up is always kep together on the dressing table). We informed the male owner who immediately flew into a rage and called myself and my partner liars, the house keeping staff also ran to the room and they started communicating in german which we couldnt fully understand. If it wouldnt have been our last night we would have stayed elsewhere. This is so dissapointing because Kitzbuhel is such a beautiful resort, it really did tarnish our experience. We will not be returning to this hotel again..I wish I would have read the reviews before booking

  • Advice: Do not stay at the Strasshofer however kitzbuhel is beautiful and has a fantastic Apres Ski atmosphere

Money missing from the hotel room
5 / 10
Mar 2010, cris

We stayed in the hotel in a 3 persons room between 12-20.03.2010 and 50 Euro was missing from our room.
We spoke with Lady Owner and she told us that this incident never happened before in her hotel, but now I read on the site that this thing also happened before to other tourists and the Lady was informed about it.
It is the first time we are rubbed in a hotel by the stuff and we were lied that this never happened before by the owner itself.

We were a party of 4 adults, in 2...

Sep 2008, Mrs I Day

We were a party of 4 adults, in 2 rooms. Both rooms were allocated next to each other and were large and comfortable. The bathrooms were adequate. Although it is quite a climb of stairs to the back entrance, we were dropped off at the front entrance, with the reception desk on the level above (only 10-12 steps) [there were alternative ways to get to the front of hotel from the rear road – either up a slight incline (approx 100 yards from hotel) or by public lift which was situated approx 200 yards from the hotel]. We were met by Mrs Strasshofer who was extremely charming throughout our stay, and even took the trouble to tell us a little of her husband’s family history with regard to the hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Although there was no choice offered for the evening meal, the food was always very good and varied (chicken, turkey, goulash, pork); with an excellent ‘farmer’s buffet’ served one evening, which offered several choices from a carvery.
Our bar bill for the week, including drinks with our evening meal, was very reasonable. Having sampled several of the bars around town, the prices at the Strasshofer were very competitive when the quality and strength of product were taken into account. Also, one evening, on opening a bottle of wine at the table, Mrs Strasshofer decided she did not like the aroma coming from the bottle and without fuss took it away and brought another UNopened bottle – I’m not sure we would have noticed there was anything wrong with the first bottle! She did this with good grace and charm.
We were offered safety-deposit boxes but did not use them; at no time did we feel uneasy about security.
All staff were extremely professional, very polite and friendly, especially Anita who looked after us in the restaurant and bar. She had a very dry sense of humour and we enjoyed many a laugh together.
We spent a quiz evening at the [Berger]Hoffer and, to be honest, were extremely glad we were staying at the Strasshofer. Where the Strasshofer has “old world charm”, the Hofer is all brash and noise. Drinks were very cheap, however, the quality and strength in no way compared with those offered at the Strasshofer.
The town of Kitzbuhel is very pretty and the Strasshofer is situated right in the main street, just beyond the pedestrian area where there are many shops, bars and cafes with outside seating areas. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Strasshofer and in rebooking accommodation.
This was our first trip to Austria and we will certainly return. Everyone we met was very pleasant and helpful. We took the train to Innsbruck (approx 200 mile round trip), all for 28 Euros in total for the 4 of us. On the whole, the cost of food and drink was much cheaper than in the UK. Austria was also much, much prettier than we imagined.

On arriving we were dropped off at the back of the hotel,(3 of us, 2 rooms) and had to climb aprox 30 steps to enter the back door, then another 3 flights past laundrette etc before reaching the reception. We were met by mrs strasshoffer (who didn't smile once the whole time we were there)The front entrance is straight on to the main street and convenient to shops and bars, about 600 metre walk to the lifts. They have a small uncomfortable bar, drinks are more expensive than the bars in the town The food is very poor with no choice, and eaten in a small restaurant. They served 3 courses at dinner usually had pork somewhere on your plate! Breakfast was ok, help yourself buffet, cereal and scrambled egg.We had a small attic room which was always warm with a recently refurbished bathroom. ONE very big down on the place. We were not offered a safe, so stored our money in 2 hiding places (£250 in each place). Two days later we noticed £150 had been stolen from each hiding place, a duster had been left in the wardrobe by the thief next to one of our hiding places(obviously hoped by not taking it all we would not know how much money we had) I reported this to mrs strasshoffer, who said it was impossible and that all her staff were honest and told me that i did not know how much money we had.(rubbish ! we had each drawn £250 the day before we came).
We went with a large group who stayed in the bergerhoffer, they had a choice of food, mr and mrs bergerhoffer were very friendly, the rooms are nicer and they are next to the ski lift, a much better hotel, unfortunately we booked late so they had no rooms left.
To sum it up Strasshoffer location is good for bars but poor for food, hospitality closeness to lifts and they have a thief there. Bergerhoffer very friendly, clean, good food, close to lift, 200yards to bars, (a few times we all stayed in the bergerhoffer bar all night it was so friendly).Stay in Bergerhoffer much better and slightly less money.
