Don't do it !!

I never write on these things but feel so strongly about how TERRIBLE this dive is that I am writing whilst still here!
I was told on the phone that I was getting an all inclusive deal! There is infact set meal times, the drinks are local only as other travllers described.
My Mother and I paid 4500GBP for this holiday 6 months ago, being told we had 3 pools, 5 bars inc a poolside bar, and choice of 3 dining areas!....
THE CON>.....
There are 2 hotels sister hotels- The Barbados Beach Resort is across the road- BUT IS ALL SHUT DOWN as out of season- so we are stuck in this basic- not even 2 star standard even for a foreign holiday! Looking through the bars of the sister hotel it's everything that was described-
Our rep is not being helpful in transfering us to a better hotel- It's like a ghost down here- we are getting onto VIRGIN HOLIDAYS now in the hope they will help- it's my Birthday in 2 weeks and it's going to be ruined staying in this dump!
If you pay like 1000 per person for 2 weeks then this is ok- we paid over 2000 each and expected more!!
PLEASE RE CONSIDER- or check which accomdation you are at prior to leaving- whether its Barbados Beach CLub Or Barbados Beach Club Resort (the sister hotel which looked better but is closed now) the locals tell us they put people in this hut type hotel several times during the year on low season- WE WERE NOT TOLD THIS
Food and drinks ;
Breakfast was OK- omlettes made for us, but you are restrcted to set meal times or you get nothing- no snack bars open like other All Inclusive Holidays I have been on in the pasy- Even Dominican Republic which I expected to be the "poor mans Caribean" where I went last year had 24 hour food and drinks
Entertainment-
None existant nothing day or night- no pool aerobics as described- at night just music playing- It's so depressing !!
Value For Money!
Would have been happy to pay up to 1200 Per person for 14 days- but not 4500 !!
Staff
Bar staff friendly same for in dining areas
Recpetion were not helpful at all on arrival- gave us key- when we were still standing there she said "go then" but didn't even tell us where - or even point to where our room was! Not that it should have been hard to find in this tiny hotel
All in all
Very disappointed- I feel so sorry for you if you are reading this and are coming soon !!

An Excellent Stay!

My mother and I stayed at Barbados Beach Club for one week and were a bit aprehensive because of some of the reviews we read but when we got there we were really excited! It is absolutely a wonderful beach front resort! The room had to double beds that were very comfortbale and we had an ocean and garden view, the room had a fridge, tv, hairdryer, two chairs indie and a big chest of draws with a big mirror and our patio had a table with 2 chairs(all the patios did)...we satyed in room 106 on the ground floor.
The restaurant has 3 restaurants but we only ate at the poolside one which is buffet, the other two are italina and seafood. The food we had was great. we had a variety and in my estimation there was something to eat that anyone could eat and enjoy. Michelle who works in the restaurant was sooo helpful and really nice. She would help you with anything if she can...one thing I can say is that this hotel really has nice staff, be it the maids, bar staff, receptionist, restaurant or even the lady in the gift shop: all were nice.
The pool was cleaned daily and I thought that was a good thing and the grounds are maintained in terms of the grass being cut and so on. Also, there is a shower off the pool to wash off in after coming from the beach or whatever.
This hotel is very enjoyable, there was entertainment every night and the reosr is located within minutes of good nightlife: St.lawrence gap. The transportation by bus is cheap BDS$1.50 which works out to US75cents. That would get you to St.Lwrence gap and if you wanted to go to Speightown or Bridgetown which are two towns in Barbados to shop in, Bridgetown being the main town. The gift shop at the hotel alos sells nice stuff including clothing.
They have internet at the hotel too so you wont have to worry about that and they also had what I guess you could call a library on the hotel site.
What I disliked about my stay at the hotel was the fact that my room slide door gave trouble.
This resort is a very beautiful place and has alot of friednly people there with good food and loads included in the package at a reasonable price...you will enjoy if you go..I sure did! :)

  • Holiday Date:Jul 2009
  • Advice: The hotel is very nice and we are going back in December.
  • Activities: Cheack out St.Lawrence gap for night life inaddition to what is offered at the hotel.

the only thing i liked about this...

Jun 2008, Miss R Perry

the only thing i liked about this holiday was the freshly cooked food you got everyday but apart from that it was rubbish, the pool was never cleaned properly and there was always loads of scum around the walls of the pool which made me feel sick, the walk way to get to the beach had been destryed by the sea so it was quite dangerous as the floor was very likely to have given way as you were walking over it,
the staff were friendly enough and if you needed anything then they would help you.
as your right out in the sticks you cant walk to any entertainment so you have to get a free shuttle bus or taxi, we did attempt to walk but i dont advise it as the bajun men are dirty little perverts and seem to like blonde women and they will not leave you alone. in total i would give this holiday a 6/10 not really what i expected and i wouldnt stay here again. but im sure the west coast is alot better.

Great holiday, great food & very friendly staff.
As soon as I arrived on the plane I could see the hotel & was so excited as the water below was crystal clear.
The only down side to the hotel is its slightly out of the way but they run a free shuttle bus to St Lawrence Gap & Bridgetown several times a day & if you miss those cabs are cheap.
Book trips from the hotel rather than the tour rep, as they are a lot cheaper.

We absolutely loved this hotel and...

We absolutely loved this hotel and will definitely go back.
My husband, (29) baby boy (20 months) and I (26) stayed for 2 weeks all inc. We come to Barbados every year for our annual holiday but this was the first time with our son, so we were really pleased with the accommodation.
Considering it is only a 3 star hotel, it was great. We always stay on the south coast as there is more going on, We have stayed on the west coast, but it is just posh and boring! Saying that, you can go and have a drink at Sandy Lane, you never know, you may be rubbing shoulders with Simon Cowell! (doubtful).
The family resort which we stayed in is separate from the main hotel, (which was a minutes’ walk away) but it has everything there you need and it was beautifully clean and spacious. The room we stayed in was just a standard twin but it was very clean, newly painted and was plenty big enough for the three of us. (and the cot).
All inc. comes with free satellite TV which was great when the little one was having a sleep, air conditioning and a large fridge. We had a bath and a shower, with constant very hot water. All the rooms in this family resort are pool view and have a balcony.
The only thing that would worry me is that the edge of the pool is really slippery and like most hotels, they have thought more about the 'pretty tiles' than safety. Many kids slipped even when just walking.
The main hotel overlooks the coast line; the beach is at the side of it and is nice but only small. We went regularly to Dover beach which is a short walk away and is beautiful! You can hire two loungers and a parasol for 20 BBD for the day, but if you are not staying a whole day, tell them and they will half it. You will get odd people hassling you on the beach, but remember they are desperately trying to make a living which is really hard for locals in Barbados. Just say 'no thank you' if not interested, they will only ask you once and don't pester.
The staff made this holiday really enjoyable, everyone was really friendly from the moment we arrived, and they made a real fuss of our little boy. Michelle is great (works in the restaurant) and she was the most out-going member of staff, who will sort anything out that you need.
The main hotel had entertainment on every night which was great as we didn't get out much with having a young baby. They had limbo dancing, karaoke and a man throwing around fire sticks! The hotel all in all was pretty quiet (because of the time of year) but they still made an effort for the guests.
There was a kids club but our little one was too young, I’m not sure what the age was. But a couple that we met there had three kids and she was raving about the kids club and the lady that run it. Apparently she is the best and the kids loved her!
The location of the hotel was good because it sat just between st. Lawrence gap and Oistins which are two of the main 'hot spots' to be. St. Lawrence gap is the best night out ever and Oistins is the place to be on a Friday night, when they have the local fish fry. It is really cheap to get around, 1.50 BBD (aprox.50p) on any of the buses, including the little ZR'S that fly around. I call them boogie buses because they bounce down the street with the music going! You can catch a bus more or less every minute and go to and from Bridgetown. (shopping!)
We hired a car because it was too much hassle on a bus with the little one and a pushchair. A guy across the road from the hotel worked out cheapest to hire the car - 400 BBD (aprox. £130) for four days. He had a couple of different car seats too, not the best or the cleanest but usable.
Trips to do are the jolly roger and catamaran cruise - the best!
If you are looking for a romantic meal out nearby, st Lawrence gap have a restaurant called 'Bellini's' which is Italian and it overlooks the beach. We go every year and it just gets better.
The food (at the hotel) was a good mixture, something there for everyone and there was enough choice for the kids too. They also do traditional kids meals like burgers, sausages, chips, beans and spag bol. A word of warning though, their high chairs are rubbish! and unsafe, next time I would take a blow up booster seat instead. Well, they can't get everything right!
The all inc. offers 2 free nights a week in the a la carte restaurants, which are Italian and I’m not sure about the other because we forgot about it and didn't book! Having such a great time you see...
The airport are very strict on luggage weight and we had a lot of alcohol in there for presents, anyway the rep said to put as much as possible in our hand luggage because they don't weigh it, fortunately we did not have to leave anything behind.
Barbados is friendliest island I’ve been to and the atmosphere makes the holiday, you can't not enjoy yourself. Just go with the flow.

Stayed for 10 days this May for my cousins wedding.
The hotel was clean/comfortable, the staff friendly/helpful and the food was great. The wedding was low key but for $600 (ceremony/flowers) you get what you pay for.
The photographer was fantastic, betterthan you would get in the UK and again the cost was minimal.
If you are looking for a relaxing time this hotel is great, entertainment is minimal, but
taxi are cheap and safe. The beaches are small coves and whilst we were there it
was very windy, so difficult to swim in the sea.
For a day trip a must is the jeep safari, you will laugh all day, but lots to see on the beautiful island.
What makes this hotel is the staff, so friendly.

On arrival in Barbados we did not realise how laid back this island is. Everyone is so friendly and laid back as if tomorrow is soon enough.
The only thing we could fault about the BBC was the deserts! Apart from the rum-baba and the fruit salad, everything else was like rubber mousse.
The main dishes are excellent. The rooms are spotless and cleaned every day, all staff are fantastic.
We hired a car for 3 days and got lost at least half a dozen times, there are no road signs once you get off the main roads, so be sure to take a good map, but that is part and parcel of exploring the island, we all thoroughly enjoyed our adventure.
A firm no thank you with anyone trying to sell you anything is quite ample. The fish night at Oistins is not to be missed.
We also went to the Harbour Lights which was very good value from money, the floor show was brilliant.

We do not recommend flying xl.com as it is a bad flight and the crew were not that good either.
We arrived 24th Nov 2006 till 8th Dec 2006 we had rooms 502 (grooms mother and father) and 508 (bride and grooms room) 508 had the best views of the sea and beach as it was on the 5th floor on the corner of the building, it also had views of the pool.
The food in the main restaurant at the resort was great and Mr Grants, who is the chef there, is fantastic and also comes to chat to everyone to ask if they are enjoying the meal and holiday so far. He is like all staff at the hotel and that is very friendly.
Michelle the barperson has a great manner for working a bar and remembers your fave drink and has it ready for you when she sees you on your way to the bar. Heather was our cleaner and she was also fantastic and honest (we dropped 50 Barbados dollars and she did see it and picked it up and put it on our bed for when we returned to the room along with a note).
Caroline is a young girl (about 16) who walks around the pool taking orders for the drinks and she never got the orders wrong plus she has a smile that I’m sure makes the day brighter, all the staff are so nice but these staff I mentioned are what I say are the best.
We got Married whilst at the resort and all I can say is DO NOT get married with Airtours, the co-ordinator was ok but not what I would say a professional wedding co ordinator as nothing ran correct at all, I have sent a letter of complaint to Airtours about the wedding. Yet still I await a reply.
If it wasn’t for the staff at the hotel cheering us up I have to say i would have to say my husband and my wedding would have been a disaster (THANK YOU STAFF) yet at least we finally got the day together and got married.
Our main Airtours rep was away for the first week we were there (Yinger) so we had another rep (Sharon) who usually reps at sun breeze and she was fantastic and had us laughing all the time, the second week we had Yinger back and she also had good humour but was a little more serious. But both these reps are an asset to Airtours.
Barbados is a really nice place to go on holiday. Where we stayed is a cheap place to stay but you are not treated any different, than how I was treated in some 5 star hotels. The staff are determined to make your holiday great and to be remembered. We will be going back to this resort.
The only bad points on this resort:
. Hardly any hot water from the shower unless you go to tell them about it
. We don’t recommend the fish restaurant on the resort as it has not got much choice yet what it does have was actually free in the main restaurant.
. We had to come home
. The flooring around the pool was very slippy when wet, as we did see a lot of people fall due to the slippy floor.
The great things I noticed on the resort:
. All the staff are great (honest and friendly)
. Wide selection of good well prepared foods
. Rooms are really clean
. Fresh towels and clean bedding everyday
. You do get good value for money at this resort if you go all inclusive like we did.
. The nightlife isn’t that good and this place could gain by having a nightclub built on the resort.
Barbados Beach Club isn’t to near any night life so it is the perfect to go as a relaxing holiday, St.Lawrence Gap isn’t to far away for if you need night life as the taxis are cheap.
The reason I have left this review is because before we went to this hotel, I had read all the reviews and most of them were going on about how bad the food was. The food was different everyday and it was warm and very tasty, so I don’t know what went wrong for the people who left bad feedback but for us, it was perfect.

Barbados is a wonderful vacation...
2 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss K Miller

Barbados is a wonderful vacation choice, but not the Barbados Beach Club. This hotel was rated 3-4 stars by the web sites that we researched. It is maybe 1-2 stars in reality. The place is really a dump, they made no effort in decor or landscaping. We went all inclusive and the food is bad (no variety and of poor quality).
If you don't make it to the scheduled time for meals or you don't like it (which is almost a guarantee), you are out of luck because there is no beachside grill for another option. There is an Italian and seafood restaurant as options on certain days but there were equally terrible. We ended up eating out a lot - the local food is wonderful, I don't know why they can't cook. I believe the desserts were created in a lab!
The male hotel staff was friendly, but not the females. The best job on the island is to be their activity director because there literally were no activities! Every night they played bad music and everyone just sat around and stared at each other. The water on the south side is rough, but it was a lot of fun if you are a competent swimmer. The water sport guys were not helpful. We had to walk down to the next beach to get any help or instruction with equipment.
We requested an ironing board on the first day and they would only let us keep it for about an hour - I think there were only 2 in the entire resort and they were both jacked up! We often waited hours to get one. When taking a shower you would get scalded about every 2 minutes. If you are looking for low budget and are ok with it, then here's your spot. They paid no attention to detail and cut corners at every turn.
We enjoyed every minute that we were not at the resort, however. The people of Barbados were kind and honest, and the island beautiful. If we ever go back it will not be to Barbados Beach Club.
