Hotel Description:

A beautiful hillside location, with fantastic views of the sea and Sithonia, the Alkion is great for couples who really want a relaxing holiday in a quiet area. During school holidays and the high season this complex is also very popular with families. Due to the location this property is not ideal for those with walking difficulties. Peacefully located 700 metres from the sand and shingle beach and just 400 metres from the resort centre of Kriopigi and nearest supermarket.

" Excellent in all ways! "

For the last week of the season we, myself and my wife were very surprised that the service we got from the staff at the Alkion was superb. We were blessed with lovely weather and cannot praise the people enough. We both found the hill to the main village made our apetites sharper so weren't to bothered about it after the first day. Eating out was a bit hit and miss as many of the Bars & Taverna's had already closed for nthe winter. However The Akropolis and Athena's were still open and we enjoyed traditional Greek food in clean pleasing surroundings with wonderful company.
Athena had hand-picked certain items on the menu to make available for the final week and although the choice was limited what was there was of superb quality. I for one found her Barbequed Octopus to be the best I have tasted (and I have had Octopus from many of the Greek islands), so when she asked us to put our trust in her on our second visit for a meal we agreed to let her choose the meal, our advise is if you are also offered this option place yourself in her very capable hands as the Stuffed Burger we had was by far the best thing we had tried all week.

Advice: As always the Greek people welcomed us wit friendly and pleasing atitudes.

Activities: Athena's & The Akropolis

" I went to the Alkion with my mum for... "

I went to the Alkion with my mum for my birthday break. must say i had a wonderful birthday and i would like to thank all the staff and guests for making that a day to remember! as we arrived in kriopigi the weather was not what we expected and for our first few days there it rained so if you are going to go in september go in the first 2 weeks. when you arrive in kriopigi and its your turn to get off the coach, you will wonder what is happening but dont worry Yanis will be awaiting you to take you down to the hotel in his minibus. All the staff are very welcoming and make you feel at home. Dimetree is lovely and on my birthday he went out of his way to make me feel very special. he went out and bought me a cake in his own time and sang happy birthday for me. the views from the hotel are fabulous. we enjoyed ourselves that much we have booked to go again in August and cant wait !!

" We have been to the Alkion twice and... "

We have been to the Alkion twice and would be going again this year had I not just had a baby! We have already booked for next year!
It is a lovely quiet family complex with an amazing view. There are plenty of bars and restaurants and supermarkets. The beach is close by and is wonderful.
We hire a car from Kelly when we are there, shes great and will do a great deal-really looks after you!
We prefer to go before the school holidays as it can get busy and the pool isnt huge (too many kids and inflatables!).
The rooms are lovely and clean, the staff are friendly and will go out of their way to help you.
This holiday is my familys little bit of heaven! Peace and tranquility yet plenty to do if you want it.
Cant wit for next year!!

" just returned from the alkion(mixed... "

just returned from the alkion(mixed feelings on the whole holiday as 20 family members went and all had diffrent apinions)

the apartments were cleaned dailey and fresh towels provided even if you hadnt used the other ones.if you want a shower or bath get one as soon as the water is hot as it dosent stay hot for long unless you have one very late at night.

the pool was lovely a bit cold but on hot days its just what you need to cool down.unless its cloudy and raining like the last 2 days of our holiday then no one wants to go near the pool.

the pool bar has a wide selection of drinks and snacks although quite pricey but it was more like double measures than singles(very strong drinks)the staff are nice and they do a good karioke night where upon my husband/brother/brother in law and my nieces fella got drunk and dived in the pool in there boxers and one of them naked.

the kitchenette in your room is very basic a 2 ring burner that is right by the sink so not alot of room for preperation of food and no where to keep it all warm if you were cooking alot of it.and all the rooms need a microwave or better ways to heat baby food and bottles

the alkion has a games room with table tennis video games machines and a pool table (2euro each time for a game of pool)

the excursions were very pricey and at the start of may the pirate boat dosent run i guess you have to wait untill later in the season for that one.

eating out is not to expensive(if you fancy going on a diet)

up the hill in the town there is a cocktail bar across the road it does really tasty cocktails for 4.50 euro ( have the sex on the bar its great)

make sure you take your driving licence with you if you have one in the next town hanioti you can hire quad bikes for the day we had loads of fun they are about 35euro to hire then you have to put extra petral in so in all about 45euro but its worth it

in all a fairly good holiday.just on days that it is raining there is no alot to do unless you want to spend all day in your room or spend loads of money all in one go.

" This holiday is one of the best so... "

This holiday is one of the best so far, I have been here 3 times already and am going back in aug 08. Yannis and other members of staff are really nice and the rooms are spotless. There are many trips in the day and entertainment in the evenings. There is a little walk up a hill to get to the restaurants, bars and shops. I would really recommend going here as you cant fault a thing.

" My partner, her daughter Mandy and... "

My partner, her daughter Mandy and Mandy’s fella spent a week here and what a week it was to remember! The owner Yannis, what a great guy and the other staff so friendly.

The apartment we stayed in was immaculate with cleaners coming in every day to change the bedding and to keep the place spotless which it was anyway, and the other people staying there at the time were great, even Boris Becker was staying there!

The complex is only small but what a wonderful place it is. We spent most of the time near the clean pool relaxing in the sun drinking ouzo and lemon. We would also wander into the town to do some shopping or eat at one of the great restaurants.

There was also a Greek night on in the complex with lots of dancing and eating. This was the first time here for me and my partner but Mandy and John have been going every year for the last 4 years and won’t holiday anywhere else.

If you know the Alkion well you`ll probably have met John, he’s a well known and liked character at the place. The 4 of us are already planning a trip there in 2008, can`t wait!

" This accommodation was lovely; very... "

This accommodation was lovely; very clean and spacious rooms, beautiful views, and it felt very safe and secure.

As others have said, Yannis is a top guy, always very friendly and eager to help with advice on where to eat!

The pool was large and well-maintained, and sitting out by the pool bar in the evenings was really pleasant (apart from the mossies!). During the day the pool bar is not so pleasant, as the wasps are everywhere, but if you can handle insects buzzing around then it should be fine. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay.

One or two little gripes mean that this isn't a 10/10 review though...the beach was a bit of a trek, and getting back up the hill after a day down there was a bit of a mission.

Also, the apartments themselves were down a steep-ish slope form the town, so may not be the best for those with mobility problems.

If you're looking for a quiet holiday then this is for you, as the town is not at all busy and there's not a huge amount in the way of activities - although all the restaurants were excellent!

" Well had a great holiday there, the... "

Well had a great holiday there, the accommodation was very well maintained and if you have a problem Yannis, will go out of his way to sort it with no bother at all however I never needed him cause I had no problems.

The rooms are immaculate no joke. The pool bar is great although the food menu is quite limited. There is a small issue with wasps but you just wave them away. Be sure to wear plenty and I mean plenty of mosquito repellent at night, unlike normal mozzies these are smaller and the reaction to the bite more severe my lass got bitten on her leg she was none to pleased as the affect meant she was unable to wear a skirt or dress at night believe you me it isn’t pretty so be warned wear the mosquito repellent.

As for the staff there absolutely fantastic from the cleaners to the manager Yannis (normally seen from 6pm onwards), you'll probably meet his family at some time and they are very warm and welcoming and his mother is great although her English is very limited she is a real gem and tries hard to understand and there is always someone close to hand to translate. Yannis ("Italian Yannis" educated in Italy) very helpful and a good laugh seen during the day. Then Demetrious (call him Meetso) he's a hard working guy and always full of smiles and laughter. Watch his Vodka and Coke there isn’t much coke in it almost transparent. LOL.

The pool is well kept and there is no swimming at night as its cleaned and chlorine added to it. The grounds are well kept and the grass lush green lookout for the pop up sprinklers very late at night we got caught in the middle of them. The view from the pool area across to the other peninsula is good there are a couple of trees in the way but they just add to the beautiful view.

I've given this place an overall rating of 10 out of 10 simply because it was so good not too quiet yet not too busy. Anyone that goes here will surely have a great time.

" I went there and made a lot of... "

I went there and made a lot of friends so I am going there again this year. I recommend it to anyone who wants a chilled out holiday or a fun one lots of entertainment and things to do bit far from an atm though.

It’s suitable for people of all ages although you do have to go down quite a steep hill. The nearest airport to there is thessaloniki and from there you have to go on about a two hour coach ride to halkidiki then the resorts minibus picks you up from the top of the hill and takes you down. It’s not that great for those that aren’t able to walk or have difficulties.

" I cannot fault the whole holiday.... "

I cannot fault the whole holiday. Flights and travel were all straight forward and easy, although I did hear a few nightmare delays on other flights with this company, but we were very lucky.

The hotel is amazing and so friendly and clean. If you are looking for a quiet family of couple holiday then I highly recommend this. Yiannis and Yiannis are so friendly they cannot do enough for you.

Wasps are a bit of a pain, and we saw lots of people with Mozzie bites, but with our plug ins we were not affected by this.

Again, this is a highly recommended place.

" A fantastic place to stay, everyone... "

A fantastic place to stay, everyone is so friendly. The bar food is good too! Some lovely restaurants within a short stroll to the town - Athena's and Trizoni were our favourites with the one in the old town square a very close third.

Halkidiki Cars did us a great deal and Kelly speaks excellent English being from Radcliffe! The room was spacious and clean, although we spent much of our time by the pool.

The pool table and table tennis and pool kept a 6, 11 and 15 year old occupied and Yanis was an unfailing source of entertainment for a bored child.
