Not pining to return
3 / 10
Sep 2011, gunner

Just returned from a week at Pine Lakes. No intention to return. Pine Lake resembles a prisoner of war camp. The lodges are cold and badly in need of refurbishment. Extortionate charges for use of internet, table tennis, tennis and crummy crazy golf. Instead of spending money on the reception area it should have been spent on the lodges. The resort is now past its best and badly needs upgrading.

Pining for home at Pine Lakes

Just returned home from what was meant to be a weeks stay in Pine Lakes. We left after four nights.
There are some very serious issues with these holiday cabins:-
1. Our cabin was freezing. The pathetic electric heaters, on full pelt 24/7 just didn't come close to making the living areas warm enough. They just dried up the air making for a stifling environment.
2. The sofas, carpets and furniture were all old, worn and smelly.
3. The water pressure in the shower is just non existent. I mean forget about getting clean - you might as well stick your head under the tap or jump in the lake ( you wouldn't be getting any colder if you did ).
4. The temperature in the changing rooms and other areas in the leisure pool was just ridiculous. I mean unless you are an eskimo you are really going to suffer. I would have thought there were regulations covering that kind of thing but really, it must have been like 0 degrees in that changing room. The showers there were cold too. I don't mean tepid .. I mean cold.
5. The noise from the M6 motorway is incessant and very intrusive; impossible to sleep with the constant roar of traffic whizzing past.
6. There is nothing to do. There is a tiny amusements area, a couple of pool tables and thats it really. The mini golf and kids play area were flooded when we arrived and flooded they stayed.
7. For some reason the "towel change" seemed to consist of a long haired youth hurling a towel filled plastic bag against the sliding door windows at 8am. We thought someone was trying to smash their way into the cabin but it was just 'service'.
8. Maybe just a seasonal thing but was it really necessary to have someone stand outside our cabin for three hours blowing the leaves into big piles with machines capable of emitting 100+db's. Only to not bother picking the leaves up rendering a repeat performance the following day an inevitability?
Add to this the howling winds, driven rain and icy temperatures and you have some very good reasons to avoid
Pine Lakes in November. Not that the resort can be held responsible for the weather, of course, but be aware that many of the nearby 'attractions' do seem to be closed at this time of year.
We decided in the end to cut loose three days early and we are glad that we did. We understand that many cabins have now been refurbished - maybe they are much better, but as it stands wild horses couldn't drag us back there anytime soon.

A real let-down; desperately in need of a refurb

I stayed at Pine Lake resort with my family (brother and parents) for a week in July 2010. We had a two bedroom lodge. I must say that I was not impressed with the apartment/lodge itself. It was in dire need of refurbishment; the beds were uncomfortable, the shower was ridiculously slow with weak water pressure, the kitchen was ill equipped, and the whole place felt damp for the duration of our trip. In addition, we found the Pine Lake Lodge staff unhelpful in various ways.
It didn't help that the weather was awful when we were there, but I must say that our overall experience of Pine Lake resort was not a good one. My parents had actually stayed at the resort 15 years ago, and said that the decor and appliances in the accomodation were the same as when they visited then. All in all, I would conclude that the lodge was a real let down. We went away hoping for a lovely relaxing week in the south lake district/lancashire, but instead we came away feeling like we should have stayed somewhere else.

We have been to Pinelake and had a lovely relaxing 4 days at Lodge 77 which has been refurbished and repainted
with a beutifull view of the lake, and watersports.
Swimming sauna steamroom spa pool and gym plus tennis court all included in the price.
The resturant serves excellent food and drinks and the bar is most relaxing to meet friends.

Do Not Rent No 77

Although the resort is nice, the people friendly, if you have a problem with a privately owned chalet you are left with no one to help.
We rented no 77, the place had not been cleaned in a long time, we have pictures of the cobwebbs, dead spiders etc. The veranda area was in disrepair and the roof was being held up by a jack. Empty paint cans and dirty brushes were left by the front door, I stood on a piece of word with a nail in it, it went into the bottom of my foot. The balasters from the fencing had been torn down and left scattered around the area. The flooring it self was unsafe.
We spend two hours cleaning it before we rang the owner. Firsly it was to let her know that her cleaner wasn't doing her job correctly, but the lady (Mrs Lodge) knew we would phone as she had her answers ready and was quite offhanded. She even told us to ring the cleaner ourselves!
I am recovering from major surgery due to terminal cancer and am not in the best of health, this was a break for my two best friends and myself after such a long hard battle.
When we arranged the booking we were informed that the only items we needed to bring were our towels for use at the swimming pool. There were no towels in the room, not enough linen so pillows had no covers on them.
The cupboards were dirty as well as the crockery. The sauna was a cleaning cupboard. The vacumn cleaner had never been emptied and when we did empty it and turned it on it added another smell to an already off putting aroma.
She informed us that the exterior problems belonged with the Resort, so off we went to find out but were unable to receive confirmation. The reception desk said private owned villas took care of their own repairs and unfortunately it had nothing to do with them.
Mrs Lodge's comment to the outside problems was that she was informed the work would be completed before we arrived.
So please do not rent no 77.

Carnforth Pine lakes resort we selected through our Holiday Club in Australia and after an Alaska cruise, British Columbia beautiful scenary, then a trans Canada Viarail trip Vancouver to Toronto we flew to the U.K and after spending time meeting old friend invited two long standing friends to join us at Pine Lakes Resort. What a surprise for both ourselves and especially our U.K friends, from parking the car then into a very welcoming reception with probably the most smiling and genuine young people we had met. Allocated a recently refurbished lodge, what a delight very clean well laid out at the far end of the lake. Enter into a well set out kitchen with all appliances you could wish for, crockery utensils, dish washer, clothes washer. The lounge/diner large with two settees and T.V. 2 bedrooms double size one with Queen bed and en-suite 2nd twin beds and a second full bathroom off the lounge, linen and towels of very good quality. A patio off the lounge overlooking the lake with table & 4 chairs joined for breakfast every morning by a variety of bird life. Indoor pool sauna etc walking distance as is the reception restaurants and bars, shop video rental and computer access. The food and service excellent. Would definately do it again.

What a great place!

Having read the comments of previous guests we were quite apprehensive about our stay but having now been - what an amazing time we had. We have a 3.5 yr old and a 20 month old so holidays haven't been what they should be recently. With the in-laws with us, we were determined to have a good time.
Firstly, the staff at reception and around the resort are always courteous & friendly. Secondly, our lodge and the in-laws' studio were of an exceptionally high standard. The kitchen was fully equipped with washing machine and dishwasher. There were ample heaters throughout the lodge and we found that no sooner we switched them on, we'd be turning them off again as they warmed up very quickly.
Our Lodge (62) although not direct on the lake, was still within 50 metres of it, and we were greeted each morning by ducks and geese coming near the balcony, which amused and entertained our daughters. The childrens' play area was lovely with bright colours and soft play area in addition to older attractions for the not so young. The reception is like a Tourist Info Centre with every possible brochure on all the local (and not so local) attractions. We were well catered for.
Restaurant and Bar Food was of high standard and really good value for money. You can order a varied selection of meals too as takeaway and eat them in your lodge (handy for us when you have young kids).
The Leisure Centre has a lovely pool, steam, sauna. jacuzzi and was very warm and clean. There was plenty of space for babies / toddlers to be changed too. The girls loved it as did the in-laws.
The childrens' play area was of a high standard too, and the walks and pathways around the resort were wide and clear. There were also ample waste and recycling bins on resort which I was pleased to see.
A great location, so close to the motorway and the Lakes. So many places to visit or just enjoy the location and stay in your lodge. We will definitely return but perhaps in warmer weather so we won't need hats and scarves outside. Well worth the lengthy journey up from Kent!

Weather was very cold and the accommodation was difficult to keep warm even with heaters on constantly. Leisure Centre was also closed during our short stay without any prior notification. In the end we left early - too cold and too little to keep young children active.
In warmer weather it looks like it would be a good place to stay.

Just got back today from Pine Lakes with my family (Wife and 2 kids aged 18 months and 4 years)
The accomodation as far as we were concened is a little bit dated and needs a full refurb. There is plenty of room to relax with an enclosed patio area with an exceptional view of the lake.
Be warned though, You have to pay for any electricity you use.
Also watch out for the flying insects and spiders and cobwebs everywhere.
The site it's self is prety good but watch out for the bird poo everywhere. (after all, you are staying next to a lake)
The kids indoor play area is very good, Arcade only has a few item in but enough to keep the kids going if you have plenty of 2 pences.
I didn't go to the swimming pool but the Wife took the kids and says it was excelent and was very warm.
The restaurante I found was pretty expensive, £80 spent on the last night for 4 adults and 2 kids, that was without drinks.
The entertainment was really good and had the oldest up dancing most of the night, Too loud though for my youngest (18 months)
The staff are excelent and will go out of there way to acomodate you.
It's not really a site I would my self visit again with Kids but would considder again when my youngest is older, Maybe when they turn 10 or perhaps older.

Just returned from hols, with a 6 and 3 year old. Despite the awful british summer weather, we had a nice time. We arrived at 11am and didin't expect to be able to check in, but there was no problem. We also requested a refurbished lodge, which was lovely. The pool is great, and the food was excellent. Although we didn't eat in the restaurant only the bar area. The kids entertainment in the evening was good, although didn't start until 7.30pm. Kids entertainment in the day is organised but be careful of costs. I went to book 'build a bear' but they wanted £20 each, which I felt was way too expensive.
Good place to visit with kids is the park in Morecombe it has an outside fun splash area which was great fun and free, there is also swings and a train in the park.
