With it being a 1st time to hurghada,we found the sunrise hotel an absolute fantastic holiday with no bad comments at all, from check in to our newly refurbished large room, incl widescreen tv,beautiful walkin shower, excellent cleaning friendly staff.to friendly bar/beachstaff.right to the fab choice of restaurants, its the best hotel we,ve been to .the hotel is immaculate.but the best most impressive staff has got to be the animation team, absolutely the best, especially john and mando that made our hoilday complete.from beach games to showtimes on the night, they are true proffesionals and a credit to the sunrise.a definate fab management team where nothing is too much trouble.keep up the good work.will be back.

First and last time in Egypt.
Hotel nice, but only 3 star. Drinks very cheap local brands, food poor and repetative.
I cannot believe how gulible some people are. The staff here are extremly shallow, always looking for tips etc.
One barman, asked my 13 year old daughter if she was a virgin!! In front of me, after being told her age!!!
The manager 'sacked' him, only for him to be spotted in the kitchen 2 days later.. I think this says it all.
After the Dom rep and Kenya, this is a poor third.
The town is horrid, with people trying to scam you constantly. I even caught a young boy attempting to pickpocket me, bold as brass.
Please keep away from this place until they get their act together. I am well travelled and this is the FIRST negative review I have ever given, I cannot emphasise enough. Keep away for the sake of your wallet and your children's safety

Just returned home from the Sunrise Holidays Resort in Hurghada (family of four, children aged 11 & 13) after an extended holiday thanks to the infamous volcanic dust cloud!

This was our first Egyptian holiday and I can almost certainly say it WON’T be our last, we had a brilliant time. The hotel is clean and spacious, all the staff (& egyptians in general) very friendly & welcoming, weather 30-35 degrees every day, trips great and food superb.

However, it’s the constant energy and fun-loving attitudes of the Animation Team that stands out, Eddie, Maya, Sheriff, Momo & Julia(?) who give the guests (old and young alike) reasons to smile all day long!

The pool is a little small and I can imagine it can get a bit busy at peak times but the lagoon serves as a great place to swim in a safe environment and see fish, both lagoon and pool have lifeguards in attendance all day long. Keep an eye out for Lion fish in the evenings though a couple floated in on two consecutive days and it’s probably best to avoid them if pos!

Hurghada itself is fine, we felt perfectly safe walking the streets, yes there’s haggling to be done but also many fixed price shops dotted about. A huge one called called ‘Cleopatra's’ about a 15 minute walk from the hotel (if you turn right out of the lobby) and is on the opposite side of the road where the roundabout/one-way system is.

We bit the bullet and paid to fly to Cairo on the Thomas Cook excursion. Not the cheapest trip on offer but considering we saw the hugely impressive citadel & mosque (& panoramic view of an amazing city) - the famous Cairo museum (which included King Tut’s golden mask) - a papyrus factory - a perfume factory - lunch overlooking the Nile at The Hard Rock Cafe - oh, and a couple of pyramids and something called the Sphinx as well, it’s great value for money!

Other tips:

If you want a cab then agree a price first, but a one way trip to anywhere in Hurghada probably won’t cost more that about 20 Egyptian pounds. There’s a guy called ‘Friday’ who works as a gardener in the resort in the mornings but hangs around outside in his cab in the afternoons and is well worth seeking out if you need taking anywhere.

Haggling, don’t engage in this (or show interest in anything) if you’re not sure you want to buy something. You can often pay only a quarter of the price that’s first asked but once you get into a conversation and start trying things on, it’s very hard to walk away empty handed! That said, I found the haggling far less intense & pressured than in The Dominican Republic, Turkey or Tunisia.

Take plenty on sunscreen, snorkeling stuff and wet shoes or flippers. We also found that Egyptians are happy to take any currency you have! Euros, US Dollars or Sterling are fine if you prefer this to the Egyptian currency. However if you do want Egyptian pounds I’d personally change money in the hotel as there was a better exchange rate there than in the UK.

The trips that the people around the hotel do are fine and often slightly cheaper that the Thomas Cook ones. We booked the submarine trip from the guy based at the resort and had no problems at all. A great trip for those who want to see fish without getting wet! Not claustrophobic either.

The only thing that marred the holiday were a significant majority of the Russian guests. The Japanese, German, Scandinavian, Polish, French guests were great but the Russians, well, no manners, no ‘pleases’, no ‘thank you’s’, drinking from first thing in the morning to last thing at night, they’re muscle in and spoil on children’s games and even assault other guests - AND worst of all their fashion sense (and hairstyles) are ridiculous to say the least! (But don’t let this put you off!)

Summing up - fantastic holiday, would recommend 100% . . . just make sure you beat the Russians to the sun beds (and save a couple for our German friends when doing so!).

Oh - thanks and well done to Michael Hales the TC rep, who looked after us all AND had the ash could and cancelled flights to contend with on his first week in the job!

we had a wonderful time at this hotel, room was very spacious and had all amenities from fridge,tv hairdryer etc, food was very good 5 places to choose from to eat each serving a wide choice of food from all over the world.the pool was very clean and big there was lots of places to sun worship and each area had a wicker cover around for privacy, there was also a lagoon which was warm and not dirty. The animation team in the hotel were very good and proveided great things to do from volleyball to belly dancing then they would put on fabulous shows each night.we did suffer a storm whilst there but we must remember this is not the staffs fault and that in egypt they do not build buildings for rain so you have to expect some damage and what damage was done was repaired the following day.I would definetly reccomend this hotel it is close to shops and bars if you get a taxi get price befor entering and try to have small notes as the driver usually does not have change

Well were do I start very very, disappointed. I don’t know were all the good reviews came from because this hotel is an utter disgrace. Let’s just say I stayed here for one week and it was too much I wanted to come home after the first day. This is my second time in Egypt and I have never experienced or seen a hotel like this before.
First of all, every single day and worse of all at night there were alarms that kept going of every half an hour at night about 58 people complained but nothing seemed to be done and so we hardly slept for a week. The hotel is full off Germans that push you around and who are very ignorant towards the English.
We were eating in the restaurant and suddenly a chef was with a German couple doing a diabetes test and because not enough blood was coming out he got his own knife out of his pocket slit his finger and put it back. I was fuming so I slammed down my plate and walked off. We also reported the matter but yet again nothing was done. The food was discussing lived off rice and chips for a week they never had no English food. They didn’t have enough variety. None off the food was fresh and the equipment they used was very dirty.
You ready for this?!....On Sunday 17th Jan Egypt had a storm and I never seen rain like it at 2am it started leaking through our walls, we put towels down but it wasn’t enough. I went out into the corridor and people were screaming all the ceilings were collapsing. I phoned a member of staff down at reception and they told me they weren’t coming up because they were too scared. I went down and there wee 15 people running around while the only 2 members off staff that couldn’t speak a word of English stood there. They offered me a candle and told me to go back to bed. My boyfriend had to reassure me as I was screaming and really upset. We went upstairs to collect our belongings and the water was ankle deep. Our ceiling had fallen through above our bed and our balcony and caved in. We then dragged our suite cases down 7 flights of stairs and waited for our Thomas cook rep to arrive. I asked the receptionist to phone her and he said "Go and find me the number" we did we could get hold off her as the emergency helpline kept cutting us off. There were 70 people waiting for a room and none off us got a room till 6 that morning. The room they had put us in hadn’t even been cleaned we asked for a new one and they said go back on the 7th floor. But we wasn’t it was far too unsafe I wouldn’t send a dog up their never mind a human being. So we had to stay in the same room.
Thirdly the sea was full off bags and cigarette dimps and used sanitary towels in bags I wouldn’t mind but it was only in there area were the slides were. The kid’s pool is in the shade and absolutely freezing none of the children’s parents allowed them to go in it.
I hope you all think twice about going to this hotel, and well if you do decide to go happy holidays. Don’t forget to check out the pictures. Thanks x

Good Hotel and Excellent Staff

For approx 8 years we have booked All Inclusive Holidays for our Family in various countries and The Sunrise is the only Hotel we have returned to . Our first time was in 2006.
When you arrive at the Hotel you are provided with a Welcome drink and a member of Staff takes your suitcases and shows you to your room .
We did have a very spacious, clean room (on the 6th Floor) which had two doubles beds, three chairs,tv,fridge, plenty of wardrobe space(not many hangers) which also had extra pillows. Also a safe and air conditioning which is included in your holiday price.
During our stay fresh towels were delivered every day as well as bottled water.Thank you Hommad- mini bar manager 6th floor.
On the two ocassions that I have stayed at this Hotel if there is a problem or you do need something Staff will do there upmost to assist. We also received a follow up call from Reception.
On the 2nd floor you will find the Bank if you need to convert currencey.Open approx 9 am to Midday and also in the evening.
There are several Restaraunts to eat at- The Beach bar as been extended since our last visit -I did enjoy an excellent pizza. They also do Burgers there.
We did tend to eat at El Sol- Breakfast- Cereral, toast, eggs, cheese, ham, fruit, yoguart,a selction of rolls, bread, cakes, juice and plenty of coffee and various types of tea.
Lunch and Dinner-Soup, Salad, pasta, rice, potatos, chips, meats( a delious Beef Wellington on one of the evenings) ,fish,Bread and rolls,friut,cakes- plenty of choices.
Bottled water, tea and coffee are available through out the day.
I did think the food has improved since our last visit .Thank you Sayed, short and Tall Mohammed and of course a big thank you to Moustafa (do not forget your children's chocolate) for looking after my family and myself. Also the pool bar staff and Mr Shisha pipe. All the staff do work very long hours and days but still manage to provide excellent customer service.
Yes the Hotel is not new and some rooms may need decorating, towels maybe old but are clean but would rather The Sunrise than a new hotel with unclean items, terrible food and unfriendly staff.
The animation team also worked extremely hard to provide some excellent shows in the evening besides looking after guest during the day- Thank you Sherif(Do not forget to buy Kenzo perfume),Tyson,Chiko,Svetlana and the rest of the girls
The Swimming pool is tested every day and one afternoon it was closed off for a few hours to be treated. Also when you come from the beach there is a water tap for your feet.
When you arrive at Hurghada Airport you can purchase your Visa- On both occassion I used USA Dollars-this time 18 Dollars Each person.
The pavement area when you turn right from outside the Hotel has greatly improved since our last visit. There is a good little Supermarket on the same side as the Hotel.
Accross the road from the Supermarket is a good Chemist. We were informed before that it is best to get tablets for your upset stomach in the Country you have travelled to so I got them the day after we arrived just incase. They cost approx 5 Egyptain pounds for 12 tablets.
Taxis are reasonable but do agree a price before you get in.
The Mariner and also Sinebads are worth a visit for those of you who like shopping.
Also my family have twice done the Quad Safari and really enjoyed the trip.

my wife and myself are hardy travellers, and have used all inclusive ranging from the
Caribbean, Med, India, and Egypt. and you have to compare what you have had previously
from other hotels and resorts, the first impressions as you enter the hotel is good,it
is when you have been there a few days that you realise that it is looking a bit tired, we booked a suite, but was given a large double room, after speaking to the Manager Yasser, who was very helpful, we were given a suite on the top floor, at 4am i had to go down to reception as we had not slept, the noise from the air con generator, on the roof was unbearable, we were given another suite on the 6th floor again very nice, the manager could not do enough for us,there were a few defects in the rooms we stayed in but nothing major, the bath panel fell of in one room, and the towel rail over the bath fell of twice in another room, but were fixed promptly, the air con broke down, and could not be fixed so we had to change rooms again,
the hotel is like a maze and does take a bit of getting used to,
the food in the el sol was good and varied, you can eat in the mediterranean al a carte,
but have to book the day before at no extra charge, very good but choice limited, would be good if they changed the menu on a weekly basis,
the things that need addressing are, hurghada is very hot, and you need to drink plenty of bottled water, and the beach and pool bars do not do cold bottled water, and send you into the hotel to get, you would think a 4/5* hotel would supply this,
on a Sunday we were lounging round the pool, when at 2pm we were all told to vacate this area as they wanted to get it ready for a BBQ, so this whole area is unavaiable to use sunday afternoons,
round the pool they use plastic glasses, which is a must, but there is no waiter service
at all during the day or evening, they collect the glasses, and pile them up in a sink by the bar, when you want a drink, the used glasses are given a quick swill under a tap and reused, not very hygienic, it is the only hotel we have stayed at where you are unable to get ice cream in a restruarnt, you are told the beach bar has it, but you ate given a lolly on a stick,if going with children ICE CREAM is a must.
be aware that if you see the doctor, it will cost you 160euros about £140 be warned.
i was ill for 6 days, and my wife 4 days,
also when we booked out, and settled our bill, they have a sign saying we accept visa/mastercard, but said they were unable to get through, but how handy to have a cash machine within 2 paces of there machine, so you can pay cash, and pay 3% for the privalage of doing so, and we were not the only ones told to settle with cash,
would we go back to this hotel, no, there are better in sharm, and the sultan gardens
that we stayed in last september we gave that a 9/10,we were also told they do not look at this website for comments only trip advisor
