We had a great week at the Florida, although the weather was variable. The room faced the sea and had a lovely quiet balcony. All of the staff were very nice and the food was well above average for a 3 star hotel. The dining room was very well run by the head waiter. Our... more

Just back from a Friday to Sunday break at The Hotel Florida and I am very much impressed by the staff and location of this hotel. Although the rooms are a little tired and dated the overall friendliness of this family run hotel more than makes up for it. The pool always... more

The Florida hotel is good; rooms are small but clean and have air conditioning at an additional cost. There is a gym (no air conditioning) and the staff were always helpful and courteous. We had a problem with the shower in the room coming off the wall, I reported this, and... more

Hotel Florida was an excellent hotel right across the road from the beach. The swimming pool was spacious, the room was excellent, the service was excellent the sea view from the hotel was magical, I would certainly go back to this resort and hotel. There was an abundance... more

A nice stay at the Florida
Just returned back from the Florida. We upgraded to a sea view on arrival as next door still had builders and scaffolding all over it.Cost us 90 euros per night B & B.We booked direct with the hotel. All in all we were very pleased with the hotel.Sheets / towels were changed every day(3 nights) a hairdryer is provided and the rooms although seemingly stuck in the 90's were kept very clean and tidy.Good shower also. The view from the balcony was excellent and also overlooked the 2 pools which although not very big were kept immaculately clean by staff. This hotel is situated right on a main road with the beach on the other side although the traffic noise was never a problem. My only gripe was that we couldn't get any English tv channels although next door seem to have them all.The reception desk wasn't interested at all and although i didn't go away to watch the telly it would of been nice to have. Breakfast was excellent with a choice of sweet croissants, yoghurts, cakes, bread rolls, jams etc, ham, cheese, cereals, muesli and a fabbo coffee machine...all self service. The old town is about a 20 minute slow stroll(turn left) and the best beach about 2 minutes(turn right).Taxi to the airport was 22 euros. We were there the last week of the season but not sure when it opens again...hope this helps...see my super pics for a better idea.
Please be aware of choice of room!
Hi I have just returned from my second visit to the Hotel Florida. Again a superb holiday but ..... my room wasnt anywhere near as nice as last years. Please ask for a sea and pool facing hotel. My room last year was on the top floor (4th), refurbished with wonderful sea and views - over looking the pool. This year I had a sea view but on the side of the hotel overlooking scaffolding from the hotel being refurbed next door (not noisy just ugly) with no sun and the room was dated especially the bathroom. But saying that...........We will go again as it is a great value for money hotel in a great location, Alghero itself is fabulous......but we will ask for a sea and pool facing room at the top of the hotel! Hope this helps.
Brilliant Location!
We've just come back from a weeks break at the Hotel Florida in Alghero. Having read the reviews here myself and found them useful I thought I should add some info into the melting pot! The Hotel is spotless - both inside and out. The pool literally 'sparkles' and I have never seen pool attendants take so much pride in their work - tidying sunbeds the minute they are vacated, sweeping up, trimming bushes etc etc. The water in the pool is on the chilly side although you do get used to it - eventually. The only downside really are the drinks machine at breakfast - no proper tea or coffee is served, its all out of a machine! Standard continental style breakfast so nothing special although the fantastic view over the bay to the old town does compensate slightly for this. The second downside is all the building work going on around the hotel. We were lucky in the fact that our room was at the back and not too close to the building work although the dust created from this did mean we couldnt sit out on our balcony. Location is excellent for the old town - about 20 mins stroll. The old town is very expensive to eat out - we paid £9 for 2 small milkshakes! OUCH! Recommendations for food would be DAPS & La Pergola - La Pergalo is a nice stroll from the hotel with a huge fountain at the front. For something cheaper there is a very good Pizzeria out of the hotel turn right about 10 mins walk max - it sells Pizza by the metre!!! All in all a very clean basic 3 * hotel with the beneft of friendly & helpful staff, handy for the old town.
A bit basic and noisy
I find this hotel quite hard to review, I am not someone who likes to criticise a hotel just for the hell of it. I try to be fair in all my reviews taking many things into consideration. My main two gripes with this hotel were that it was by our standards very basic ( Call me a snob if you like but it is my honest opinion). The other and more niggling one was we found it impossible to get a decent nights sleep due to the noise from the corridor and the rooms either side of us. You could argue we were unlucky with out neighbours but I can't accept being kept awake by someone next doors snoring. Once people started to get up (6.30ish) it was impossible to get any sleep. The room was on the small side the toilet was very small, when I was sitting on the toilet my knees were against the shower door. The rooms are kept clean along with the rest of the hotel. I found a lack of either CNN or BBC World a bit surprising. I also found the breakfast a bit on the limited side. The reception and bar area are also on the small side when we arrived it was cold at night so we decided to go back to the hotel for a drink only to find there was only a few seats inside and all of those were taken. I did however find all the staff excellent, very friendly and helpful. I know that everyone has different expectations of a hotel and I am afraid this one did not come up to ours. One other thing to be aware of is that there is building going on either side of this hotel, it did not effect us any but I just thought it was worth mentioning. To sum it up, an ok hotel but a bit basic and we found noisy. I do think if you have stayed in a good standard of hotel you will like us find this one a bit dissapointing.
Just what the doctor ordered
MAY 2006 - Having been to Alghero twice before for our annual jaunt, this year we decided to try Hotel Florida (Carlos V was closed for refurb). We were not disappointed. Right from the booking via email to arranging taxi's to go to the airport, the service was first rate. Staff were always helpful and always smiling, the rooms and general hotel appearance were spotless at all times. I even witnessed the cleaners wiping do the railings on the balconies (first for me and very impressed). We payed the extra euros for a sea view which is well worth it.The pool area was spotless also and the lifeguard always made the effort to re-arrange the sunbeds in formation wherever people departed. Breakfast was fairly basic but sufficient and included in the price. The only downside was that you could not pay for drinks at the bar with cash, so reminder to keep your receipts for when you pay your bill. Supermarkets are close by (Out hotel, first left up the hill and its on your right at the traffic lights. The little snack bar next door had a good supply of rolls and sandwiches for lunch. We didnt eat in the reastaurant in the hotel, so many good places to eat in town. In terms of restaurants, you cant go wrong, but special mention must go to DABS. Out of the hotel, turn right, about 200 yards and turn right. Be sure to try Friday and Saturday as the Sunday chef wasn't anywhere near as good. LA Pergola further down the coast road away from the old town heading to Fertilla also looked a bit smart. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a great relaxed stay.
Excellent hotel - highly recommended
I found it difficult to pick a hotel in Alghero and spent alot of time reading Tripadvisor reviews. Eventually, I chose this hotel and I think it was a great decision. Our room was huge with an extra bed in it and a great view of the sea and pool. The building is a wonderful example of 60s architecture which I found fascinating. The pod style balcony allowed privacy and the bathroom was of a good size. Staff were helpful and the ice cream bar next door is fabulous. The rooms were kept immaculate by the staff and there was plenty of wardrobe space. The pool was cold but very clean and very refreshing once you ventured in. Breakfast was nice and it was lovely sipping drinks by the pool as the sun set. I would certainly recommend this hotel as it was a nice walk to the Old Town, close to supermarkets and had lovely less seaweed covered beaches just a little walk away.
Good Location
Just had a 5 day break at the hotel. It is well appointed about a mile to the main town however the restaurant on the corner Las Ramblas is excellent. We had a side room which had a sea view. However be aware that the hotel next door is in the process of being renovated and although not too noisy we had a view of the scaffolding too. Take a kettle if you enjoy a cup of tea. Pool area was very clean with lifeguard on duty all the time.We only had B&B. Breakfast was the standard meat/cheese etc. Would definitely go back for another break although not in the summer as I think it would be too hot and crowded.
Excellent, good value 3* hotel
The hotel was clean and the rooms were just what we needed, few frills but a decent size and all with balconies. The breakfast (included) was basic, self-service but as much as you wanted with fruit, meat, cheese and lots more. We didn't eat at the hotel because there are lots of good place to eat in the old town. The pool was spotlessly clean and the beach was just across the road. Off road parking was provided. The hotel had a great 60's retro look to it, quite unusal and to me pleasant
Alghero Magic
As previously mentioned by other reviews, Alghero is a beautiful place to stay. The hotel is perfect in terms of location and it is only a ten minute walk into the old town where all the best restaurants can be found. Alghero has not been spoilt by a mass tourist invasion of the beer monster variety and thankfully i think it will stay that way as it doesn't have an abundance of tacky nightlife. The people of Alghero are very welcoming and friendly and it was a pleasure to share their hospitality in many of the cafe's that lined the old port. I would definately recommend hiring a car and use Alghero as your base and we spent several day trips going to Bosa, Porto Tores( Personally i would give this place a miss) and the Neptune Caves. Alghero has some fabulous beaches that can only truly be explored with the advantage of having private transport. The drive to Bosa is amazing and you have to see it to really appreciate the stunning scenery. I can't fault the hotel, we had a sea view and i would recommend paying the extra cost for this extra. The pool is clean and there is an added bonus of a good size childrens pool as well. The checkout time is the real disadvantage but was not a problem due to the flight time that we had. So i hope this review will prove worthwhile and one last tip is to check the forum as there is so much knowledge to be gained.
Fab Easter weekend at Hotel Florida!
Alghero is a great place for a weekend getaway: good weather, great Italian food and wine, nice beaches, beautiful old town.. Good value for money. I am talking about travellers who do not want to spend too much money on holiday accommodation but want to have a decent place to stay and has local character. Picked Hotel Florida from this website from its ranking and also its advertised location, just 10 minutes walk into the old town and right in front of the beach. In fact, we got more than what we hoped for.. the view from room no 303's balcony was absolutely amazing, looking into the old town on the right, the blue-green water of the bay in the middle and the gorgeous cliffs on the right.. and even capo caccia on a clear sunny day. Starting with the amenities, the swimming pool on ground floor is very clean and lots of sun beds to choose from with a good selection of drinks from bar. Restaurant serves good breakfast (the usual cereal, breads, cakes, fruit, juices, coffee, etc) enough to keep you going till a great italian lunch in the old town. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, including room cleaners who greet you in the morning, hoping that you'll leave your room quickly for them to clean. Downside of this hotel is that check out time is at 10am which is a little early but it sets you off out into town, giving you ample time to wander around on your last day. There are two huge supermarkets nearby with great selection of Sardinian delicacies such as cheese, meat, wine and snacks. Check out recommendations from travel guides on local cheese and wine, they help a lot when it comes to selecting what is good. Most of the good restaurants and bars are in the old town which is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel (look in travel guides as well). Despite the beach in front of the hotel has clean and clear water, but as you would know by now, Alghero got its name from being full of seaweed and hence, the beach along Via Lido can be quite uncomfortable and dirty. Ferry out into Capo Caccia will show you that there are lots of other great beaches nearby apart from the one outside the hotel, so if you have a car, it will be very handy. Although I have not stayed in any other hotels in Alghero, Hotel Florida is good value for money (90 euros for a double room with sea view) and it is sufficient rather than paying 300 euros a night for a fabulous hotel room but spending most of your time anywhere else but in your room during the day.
