The Avenue is a fantastic B&B with decent rooms for the price. It's quite a large hotel and has good service with friendly staff.
The buffet breakfasts are fab, with a large selection of hot and cold food, and they have no problem with you loading up your plate and going upstairs for breakfast in bed!
Rooms are spacious for Amsterdam and the price, and they don't suffer with as much damp as most cheapish hotels!
Amsterdam itself is a lovely city with very friendly and helpful locals. Shopping is excellent, with diamonds being a popular tourist bargain! There is a great selection of good restaurants, bars etc to suit every taste and budget.
It’s perfect for a weekend break or a longer stay in the summer, with lots of nice walks by the canal a must. Hiring a bike is popular, and Amsterdam must be the most cycle friendly city in the world.

I arrived at this hotel to be told check in was 2pm, it was now 1.30pm so I waited and waited, I was eventually allowed to check in at almost 3pm! The single rooms are so small like a broom cupboard; they have a shower with a hole in the bathroom floor, so every time you shower the whole en-suite room floods! When booking the hotel I requested a single room with a bath 4 months in advance, which I had stayed in before, I received no reply to this and my request was NOT honoured. Breakfast food was only warm and not worth bothering with, the hotel staff don’t seem to care very much about your comments. The only good point of this hotel is its location and it is cheaper than most. I would NOT stay again! My advice is to pay a little extra and have some comfort.
