Hawks Cay Resort Hotel

Went here for our honeymoon on recommendation from a friend. I absolutely love Florida and normally holiday on Clearwater beach, so this was going to be a change. And it was a nice change- a contrast from the Florida I was used to.
When we turned up there was a power cut in the main building (the hotel part), so all the air-conditioning /lights / check in area was not working. It turned out to be not working for 3 days, but it was very well managed.
They checked us into one of the amazing villas in the resort as they were fully functional in the power cut. It was fabulous - we had a huge kitchen, our own pool and would have easily have slept 6.
We arrived mid Sept after all the schools had gone back and the place was very nearly empty. We pretty much had all the facilities to ourselves- which at times was a bit disconcerting- but we got used to it!
I counted 3 pools (not including our own private one), one of which was in an adults only area. In addition, there is a lagoon (which you can clearly seeing the picture). So instead of a beach, your lazy days are spent here, swimming in the seawater with a few little fish), it was lovely. Sometimes in the afternoon, there was a Caribbean steel drum band playing too!
There is a lot to do in the resort- swimming with dolphins, eating, gym, golf, boat trips, diving...but we ventured a down to key west, which was about a 2 hour drive. We also drove up to Florida City and there is a small mall there - a Nike store etc and is worth a visit if the weather is not so good.
There is a supermarket (Publix) about a 20 minute drive south in Marathon. As we had the added bonus of a kitchen we made use of it and it saved us a bit of cash in the resort. An American supermarket is also a fun experience to look around!
I would love to go back.
