Hotel Golden Port Salou Reviews
" Awesome! "
Submitted By: jacksontourWe booked this holiday really late. Booked on Tuesday to travel the following Friday! So it was a mad panic.....
After much disappointing searching via various travel agents and internet sights who were coming up with not so good hotels and much dearer, I was about to give up and found this amazing deal on Sunmaster ltd. It was cheaper again as we were willing to travel further afield to fly...we booked for 7 night’s half board. Travelling was 2 adults and one child aged 10.
We had been to Salou two years prior and loved it so much we couldn’t wait to go back. The last hotel we stayed in which we thought was great, but on seeing this and arriving there, we thought amazing! It was def 4 *!! The rooms were great and although we were at the side of the hotel and facing apartments, it was so quiet and we didn’t really spend any time in our room other than to sleep and the odd siesta when it got really hot!
Our room had a fridge in it and from reading another review I kept the after sun in it which was really handy and needed! Lol. It also had tea and coffee facilities, which is rare.
The safe was 20 euros plus an extra 6 euros deposit which you got back at the end of your stay.
The staff were so friendly and helpful! My advice is always treat them with respect as they work so hard! There is no way I could do their job!!
There was ample choice of food, and for all you who complain about foreign food - STAY AT HOME! You are in a foreign country enjoy it, they would have to if they came here!
I didn’t have time to try the spa, but spoke to families who had and they said FAB!
The nightly entertainment was held indoors which I thought was a refreshing change, as you could enjoy if wanted, but we sat outside and enjoyed a drink, whist my daughter was insight and inside and couldn’t get enough of it!! Luckily I missed the snake man, he was the following week!
They also had a separate pool just for games like volleyball and water polo and never came around nagging you or the kids to join in, which was also v nice!
Sun beds - now what can I tell you about these? There were plentiful in supply all day and always loads stacked up! Once I woke up early and joined the saddos who qued for the poolside to open to grab their ‘spot’, but that was the first and last time I did that! The poolside opened at 9.00am, so unless you wanted to be right by the pool and get splashed all day whilst trying to soak up the rays there is no need to be sad and queue!
The drinks were average price but each evening they ran two happy hours, where you bought one drink and got the same free! No straight spirits during this time tho.... I think my hubby may need a liver transplant! Lol x
If you have been to Salou b4, just opposite the hotel and to the right is a camping site, where the little blue and white trains and services buses stop. If you come out of the hotel and turn left and left again you will end up on the main stretch, turn right by Burger King and this will take you into the main hub.
There is also a handicraft market which runs every night from 7pm – 12 midnight and the ‘sandman’ is awesome!! You should buy a piece of his art! If you turn left at Burger King you will come to it.
A tip for Portaventura Theme Park: Buy the tickets this end, we used 365.com, but DON’T forget to take your voucher with you! We took ours, as to me its one of the things you check b4 you go! But were amazed when we were transferring ours the number of people who had forgotten! How, I don’t know!! Once inside there is an information desk to your right (don’t go to the one outside the turn styles, unless transferring your vouchers, as the queue is too long!) In here you can purchase fast track tickets, a MUST! It cost me 23 euros each, which maybe a bit steep on top of the theme park tickets, but it saved so much time! You can also if lucky get them on eBay b4 hand, but as we didn’t know if we’d get this holiday, I couldn’t do that!
All in all this was the best holiday we have had and will not hesitate to return to Salou and the same hotel!
Hope you enjoy as much as we did! If I can help in anyway, please feel free to contact me bethfisher@ntlworld.com x

Submitted By: Mrs F JennerThe food was fabulous and as it is a buffet style you can have as llittle or as much as you want. I didnt hear anyone complain about the food as there was always so much choice that even the fussiest eater was catered for. We soon learned that there were times to avoid if you wanted to avoid waiting for a table.
The evening entertainment was good and most of the shows were very enjoyable. The entertainment team worked very hard to ensure that all ages and nationalities enjoyed themselves. One of the team called Israel was brilliant as his command of English was superb and his bingo calling was hilarious. I dont like bingo but he made the nightly activity a hoot. The pillars in the bar were a real problem as many of the guests could see nothing. Some of the entertainers were aware of this and went out into the audience for short moments but for the majority of the time the guests seated left of the middle of the stage saw nothing.
We came to the conclusion that Salou is the Spanish answer to Blackpool. It is full of tacky shops offering tacky souvenirs and cafes offering British food and sky football!! But .... it is a useful base and there is such a good local bus service that you can soon travel to Cambrils or Tarragona and these are delightful places. Of course we also went to Port Aventura and had a fun time. I would strongly advise buying the tickets before travelling. Currently the daily ticket is 43 euros and I bought a 14 day pass for the 2 of us in England for £118 so made a huge savingas we visited the park three times and then passed our tickets on. We also visited Montserrat, Sitges and Reus and liked these places as they have retained their own charm.
A holiday is what you make it .............. but this hotel and the local area did a great deal to make our holiday a brilliant two weeks. (just make sure you dont get room 706!)

Submitted By: Miss S JohnsonEntertainment at the hotel is FANTASTIC especially for the little ones and then there is entertainment for everyone after the mini disco
Staff were really helpful if u needed anything you could just walk up to the thomson desk and she/he would be able to point you in the right direction.
Also if you could get a chance to go into the spa which they have in hotel which does cost extra 5euros it is worth it it is lovly.
I reccomend to go to Portaventura theme park this was amazing as when me and my boyfriend went we had a fantastic time there a little noddy train picked us up from just up the road by a hotel called calipso it costs 3euros each.
Also when comming out of hotel if you turn right and walk up to the second turning right there i a pub called Funky Monkey (English bar) which is amazing quality of food for money.
i would rate this hotel over 10/10 as this was the second time i have been here.

Submitted By: Mrs C BuchanThe rooms were comfortable and reasonably sized they were cleaned effectively everyday.
The restaurant provided a wide variety of different types of food so that everyone in our party always had something they enjoyed, even the more fussy eaters. There were of course times when the restaurant was particularly busy and there was a queue to get in, however these were dealt with pretty quickly. The restaurant staff were pretty efficient in ensuring that the buffet was constantly replenished. If we were going out at night the head waiter was happy to swap our evening meal for lunch. No he didn't smile much but with 800 people using the restaurant daily - he was quite busy!!!
The pool area was fabulous. Having read a few reviews before we went we expected it to be difficult to get sunbeds, that didn't prove to be the case although the couple of times we went down to get sunbeds when people were waiting for the pool area to open it was funny watching people run to get the sunbed they wanted. We always got the sunbeds we wanted and there were always spare beds throughout the whole day. There was a good mix of shaded areas and full sun around the pools.
The entertainment programme laid on by the hotel was excellent, largely as a result of the energy of the entertainment staff. Participation in all activities was excellent and there was something for all age groups. Guiseppe is quite sexy!!! Isabel was brilliant with the kids - you need to watch the mini disco - its hilarious.
Portaventura was excellent (get your tickets in the uk before you go) - much cheaper as you will need 3/4 days to get round without being exhausted.
We really enjoyed it and couldn't fault them.
" This was a pleasent place to stay.... "

Submitted By: Miss J RidleyWe arrived at the hotel approximately 10.00pm and because we missed dinner they had kept us a small meal in the restaurant, which was very nice of them. Also as we arrived at the hotel it looked very clean and welcoming. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were also very clean and suitable for what we needed, they were very comfortable. We were on the forth floor and had a lovely view of the main pool. The rooms had a kettle, hairdryer, fridge and safe in it. The rooms were cleaned everyday.
The restaurant was very spacious and the food was fantastic. Over the 2 weeks that we stayed the food was never repeated. There was lots of choice and even the fussiest eaters should enjoy the food. One night a week there would be a themed night, our 1st week was a seafood theme and the 2nd week was a chinese theme. Also on fridays there was a gala dinner in which you got a free glass of champagne. The food throughout the holidays was very nice. The breakfast also had a wide variety of choice and was very nice. They even catered for diabetics.
The pool area of the hotel was very nice. There were 2 large outdoor pools and 1 indoor pools, a childrens pool, and 3 jacuzzis (not heated in summer season). These pools were very clean and spacious, with enough sunbeds for those who needed them. At this hotel there was a spa, for 5 euros you could go in for 1 hour and 15 mins. The spa consisted of a sauna, steambath, tropical shower, and a large heated pool with different types of jacuzzi areas (an area where you lie down, stand and an area to sit). We really enjoyed using the spa.
The bar was reasonabley priced. The best time to go was between 8 and 9, this was happy hour and drinks were buy 1 get 1 free. We often found that the drinks were sometimes cheaper than the bars outside the hotel. The barstaff were very friendly and caring. The told us not to take lots of money out or take mobile phones with us. They also suggested good places to go.
The entertainment of the hotel was very good during the day. Guiseppe (very sexy) was the main entertainer for the adults and he would encourage everyone to join in. Guiseppe was very friendly and also caring, and would make you laugh, he was very funny. He had a good sense of humor. The entertainment at night was good, although the start was more aimed at children. There would be bingo then a mini disco for the children. There was then different shows shown after, such as take that tribute and acrobats. After these shows Guiseppe then had a disco in which he encouraged us to go on the stage and dance. This was very fun and a good laugh. usually after the disco we would go into salou to the bars which were only about 5-10mins away, a good place we went to often was Charlie Chaplins.
Overall this hotel was amazing, all the staff were friendly and caring. The hotel was situated in a good place, shops and bars were 5 mins away and beaches were about 10-15 mins away if walking. This hotel is suitable for all ages including groups, couples and families. it was a nice, relaxing and fun holiday here. We will definatley be back to this hotel next yr
" Golden Port Salou is the best hotel... "
Submitted By: Miss Kr RidleyOn arriving to the hotel we had no problems straight to the room which was very clean on 4th floor with a nice pool view.
The hotel is very clean with friendly staff who are always willing to help if needed.
The food is amazing never repeated itself for the 2 weeks i stayed. Chinese night was the best night for me. breakfast is very nice so much to choose from.
Bar staff are very friendly and cute who look after you.
Entertainment is excellent around the pool. Giuseppe was the entertainment man and he was very friendly and got everyone to join in with games and have alot of fun.
Entertainment on a night time wasnt so good could be a bit better but they is many of good clubs and bars in Salou. I would advise on seeing Mitzi Champagne in Ski Hut bar on a saturday night 11pm ( best drag act on Salou for 4 years running) funniest man i have ever seen!!
Me and my cousins will be back same time next year!! Well worth every penny.
Spa is amazing good fun if the weather is cloudy!!

Submitted By: Miss K CoffillWe arrived in Salou around 10am and found it very easy to get to the hotel. We just went over to on of the buses and the driver sold us a return ticket to our hotel, they drop you off and pick you up for your return flight, and at a very cheap price of 6 euro's i recommend it.
We arrived at our hotel and our first impressions were, we were a bit out of the way from the beach. But it was very quiet and away from all the busy streets.
We could check in as soon as we arrived, We had a top floor and pool view which we requested as me and my friend both work in the travel industry.
At first we couldn't get into our room as the key card did not work, we had to ask passing cleaner, who then said "three" referring to the amount of people entering the room, we replied with yes and she and another cleaner went into our room, which only had 2 beds and a sofa, but the sofa pulled out into a bed. as we were staying 3 nights we just took it in turn to rotate beds.
the rooms were big enough, but the bathroom was on the small side. The TV did not work at first, but we jiggled some wires at the back and got a clearer picture. If you're from England and miss English TV, it has BBC 1 and a few over English channels.
Once we had settled we went to the Thomson rep and asked for directions to the beach, there are 2 beaches close to the hotel, about a 15 minute walk. There's a little cove beach in cap Salou and the main beach in the Salou centre. We found both these beaches packed, so we hopped on a bus up into la Pineda where the beach was better and a lot quieter, They have masseuses walking up and down offering a massage at only 10 euro's this was a bargin, as my friend highly enjoyed it.
We have read quiet a few reviews of the food at the hotel, most of them saying there is a wide choice of food, me and my friends found it hard to make up a whole meal, there was just bits of this and that, and a lot of chips. Breakfast however, was a lot better. We had a cooked breakfast of sausages, bacon (beware, the Spanish like to keep the bones in) beans and eggs. There was also a lot of pastry's, jams and cereal. Also a choice of tea, coffee's and juices.
Also in the reviews people mentioned having a hard time trying to get a sun lounger by the pool, most days it was empty and we had no problem getting one.
On two of our days we decided to go to the SPA, at 5 euro's this was a bargain, but beware, the entrance coming from the pool, down steps is very very slippery, especially with flip flops. I fell and slipped down around 5 or 6 steps and I'm now completely bruised as a result, so the best way to get in is through the main lobby, by the inside bar.
The steam room, sauna, jacuzzi pool and showers and all the other facility's were fantastic! If you are staying here for a week, two weeks or just along weekend you must visit the SPA, towels and a locker are included in the price.
We went out most night so didn't really check out the entertainment, but the last night we decided to stay at the hotel, sat in the bar by the pool and listened to a tribute band playing inside, the drinks are cheaply priced, but the quality of them are also cheap.
Overall this is a great little place if you are staying a weekend or a week, there loads of excursions, we went on the catamaran for 30 euro's which lasted 3 hours and included drinks, as many as you like! even beer for the men.
Portaventura was amazing, loads of rides for children to, and you can catch the portaventura train cart for 3 euro's, which is great for kids to.
" Good Points - Friday night dinner... "
Submitted By: Mrs V CBad points - Everything else!!! Was on 7th floor, went in May so had some rain but the roof leaked and the whole corridor was wet right from our room to the lifts. Red dye running out of the carpet and staining clothes and mats! Room very hot even with doors open. Hotter in room than outside! Reception rude and NOT helpful. Food was OK but I got food poisioning on the last day and not sure if that was from the hotel or a bar along the seafront. Can't access the pool area, or bar seating area, pool tables, games room or indoor pool until after 9am when they unlock the door. Loads of children, many unaccompaned by a parent and out of control screaming, splashing and being a pain. Broken glass on the table at dinner. Myself and my husband were often sat on a table for 4 with 2 other guests we didn't know, the waiter moving the table slightly to separate it a milimeter. Restaurant roof leaked by the front of the hotel. Lifts very random, have to wait ages for them, especially if you're on the 7th floor! Would NOT go back or reccommend!!!!
