Oct 2007, Mr D Bramhall

Food was outstanding if you picked wisely. Chef cooked various dishes while you waited and this was very hot. Some food a bit on the tepid side but wait until a fresh tray comes out. The breakfast hot foods was ok but stick to the croissants as some times the eggs were cold. House wine 6.6euros a bottle... bargain.
Would not come to Salou in the summer but outside the main season the resort is nice. Very easy to get out from Salou. In october all the bars are knocking out cheap drinks, 5euros for a litre jug on Sangria on the prom.
Bus to Barcelona including entry to Nou Camp was 26euros. Train to Barca 12euros return. Buses everywhere. Don't miss Port Aventura and the fire show. It may be expensive but its a good day out. In summary if you can get this hotel at the right price (we paid £1100 for 2 adults and 2 kids ) book it.

Oct 2007, Mr N Farmery

Just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks at the Golden Port Salou. Was a bit worried by some of the reviews on here but had no reason to be at all!! Hotel was superb, as clean as a whistle and friendly helpful staff round the clock.
We had a family room, slept 4 of us and was lovely and spacious. Maids were in each morning and cleaned it as new.
Food was great, both in the hotel restaurant and in the snack bar. Plenty of choice at both breakfast and evening meal, only complaint I have is that I've put about 8lbs on in weight in the 2 weeks!!
Plenty of choice at the bar too with happy hour from 8pm till 9pm each night, the Sangria is superb!!
Nice 10 minute walk into the main part of Salou, 15 mins to the beach on foot and plenty of lovely cafe's and bars within a few minutes stroll of the hotel.
Overall our party of 10 were very impressed by the hotel and we would return without a doubt.

Everything was great, except for the overwhelming number of school aged children at this time of the year. Most of the evening’s entertainment was geared towards them. As pensioners (one disabled) we found difficulty getting down to the sea front due to tree obstruction and uneven paving - totally wheelchair unfriendly. Worth heeding if you are in a similar state of mobility. Not the fault of the hotel of course but it did affect our holiday.

Very nice hotel. The food was good with loads of choice. Clean hote.
The only down side you have to check out by 10.00am and very hard to book late checkout rooms (30.00euro), so if you get the chance to book one before you fly do so.
Didn’t use the hotel bar very much but prices not too bad. Plenty of stuff for the kids to do and the pools was good but a little cold it may have been the time of year we went, but had no problems getting sunbeds.
We had a room for 4 which was a good size one double and a twin fridge on the small size safe 46euros for two weeks. Down side of room TV only had two English channels of one which is World News. Rooms have air con but this goes off when you leave the room as does all the power.
Over all yes would stay here again.

We booked with Thomson on a late deal...

Oct 2007, Mr G Hart

We booked with Thomson on a late deal a week before we went and we were allocated the hotel when we got to Salou. I think the hotel was absolutely fantastic. The rooms were very big and airy and the hotel itself was very good.
The food was absolutely fantastic - there was a wide choice and my fiancée and I ate like kings as there was so much. Often we didn't have a meal at lunch time as we were so full and we spent most of the days at Port Aventura on Dragon Khan and Stampida.
We also went to see Barcelona play football one night and that was first class - we went through Thomson but I think you can book through the hotel too.
All in all very very good, great food, great weather about 25c in late September - fantastic theme park, good beach - very full of other British tourists.
This was our second visit to Salou having gone in 2004 and I recommend the resort to anyone.
Hope to go again soon.

My girlfriend and I have just...

Sep 2007, Mr R Phillips

My girlfriend and I have just returned from Golden Port Salou Hotel and Spa, and quite frankly, we wouldn't return.
Our initial impressions of the hotel were quite good, with the evening reception staff being efficient and polite, and the cleanliness of the entrance being of a high standard. However, as soon as we got to our room, our opinion began to digress. The door only opened half way, the balcony door would not lock, and the shower head would not fix to the wall, meaning we had to wash whilst holding the shower head! As we arrived late in the evening, we delayed our complaint until the following morning. When we did ask the reception staff to move room, they seemed disinclined to help, and demanded a good enough reason. Eventually they agreed to change our room, and when we asked if there was a pool-side room available, the receptionist laughed and said "nobody can request a pool-side room".
The food at the hotel was better than we expected (having stayed at other half board hotels) with a wide variety each night, and good, friendly staff.
As other reviews have mentioned, the rush for the sunbeds at 9.00am is pure comedy, with people running for the beds to ensure they get the best spot!
The night time entertainment was varied, and most people seemed to enjoy it, but it was not to our taste. The daytime entertainment was mostly for the kids, but there were a few games and activities available for adults. The entertainment team was always full of energy, and always gave 100%.
As to location, the hotel is about a 20 minute walk to PortAventura Theme Park (get your tickets before you go) and about 10 minutes to the beach. The train station is about 30 minutes away, which is the best way to get to Barcelona, costing less than 20 € for the two of us return.
I can't see us returning to Salou because there is not much to do there, all the shops seemed to sell the same sort of tat, and the only real attraction being PortAventura theme park.

Sep 2007, Miss Danielle Judge

The brochure said 4 star for this hotel, when we arrived one of the stars had been taken away and was therefore only three.
It was a nice enough hotel, the rooms were large, and clean, there is only one pool so make sure you get up early.
The food from the buffet was okay with themed nights and the night entertainment was okay with bingo and quizzes.

We have been going to The Golden Port...

Aug 2007, Mrs S Taylor

We have been going to The Golden Port Salou Hotel now for 9 years and each year it seems to get better. The staff are great the rooms are clean and comfortable especially if you get one with a pool view.
It is within easy walking distance of the main resort and the beaches are clean and safe. The food in the hotel is excellent with a good variety and it is always hot.
A good place to visit is Port aventura this is a must see place as even if you don't like the rides there is plenty to see and do with shows and entertainment all day, the finale show which is usually around 11.30pm is absolutely brilliant and well worth waiting for.
We have booked to go again this year in September and I can’t wait to get there.
We have made many friends both from Britain and Spain and keep in touch with quite a few of them, and will be seeing some in September.
We have been to other places during the last 10 Years but we always try to get at least 1 week in Salou and always at this hotel.

Aug 2007, Ms C A Birchenough

On arrival had to wait 2hrs for room key - even though it said in brochure rooms available from 12 noon - then when we got it room hadn't even been cleaned but after that things improved.
The hotel and staff were very nice, clean the food was good plenty of choice something for everyone. Location ok lots of building going on around only 10 mins walk from main shops and beach (extremely crowded). I was on holiday with my 15 yr old daughter who received an awful lot of uninvited attention in town of an evening - quite daunting really.
The down side was the sun beds at the hotel ! the queue started about 8.15am, access was not allowed till 9am then it was what can only be described as a "stampede" with lots of shoving and pushing especially from the other nationalities that were staying at the hotel.
There were an awful lot of German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish at the hotel and of course the usual when people put towels down on sun beds then don’t appear till 3/4pm in the afternoon!
Plenty to do during the day for both adults and children if you wanted although the evening entertainment was a bit poor.

Aug 2007, Mrs L Keilaus

Just returned from a week at this hotel. Took three disabled people with me. I telephoned the hotel 10 days before we arrived and explained to them that I had people with learning disabilities coming. I kindly request two low rooms overlooking pool because they are not very mobile but they like to look out and see people.
On our arrival we where given two rooms that had no view at all; the only thing you could see from the balcony was the concrete roof over the restaurant. I went to see reception and they were just not interested in doing anything about it. Also asked them if I could secure and pay for a late room as the flight was not till 9.30 at night on our return and again I was told no.
Whilst we where there an elderly lady collapsed in the foyer and the reception staff were not trained in first aid. The food was fantastic. Well as for sun beds, you will need your running shoes on or you will be knocked over in the stampede. Outside the hotel the pavement is not wheelchair friendly, so I would not recommend this hotel for the disabled.

Fantastic hotel.
We went with my daughter, daughter in law and three grandchildren. Everybody enjoyed it. The food was really good, the rooms were cleaned daily, and the entertainment was also good. We went on several day trips, Barcelona which is a very beautiful city, Port Aventura(a must) Costa Caribe and Tarragona, very cultural.
There is something for all age groups in this part of Spain.

Having read a lot of good reviews...
4 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss V Disappointed

Having read a lot of good reviews about the Golden Port, we booked expecting it to be a fantastic holiday. The reality was much different unfortunately.
On arrival at the Hotel, our initial thoughts were that the hotel seemed quite nice, however, the room was small, quite dark, very 'tired' looking and really in need of modernising.
Despite requesting a pool view, we did not get one, and instead, our crumbling balcony overlooked some grotty apartments and a building site. We asked to change rooms but were informed by the very unhelpful, unsympathetic reception staff that it was not possible.
The buffet style food selection was plentiful, but very greasy and vegetables were completely overcooked. I became very ill after eating eggs for breakfast one morning, and spent the remainder of the holiday in bed, being violently sick.
The pool and surrounding area was pleasant but it was very difficult to obtain sun loungers, due to people leaving towels on them overnight.
The entertainment was one of the better points of the hotel and was varied.
Salou itself, is tacky and run-down and there is a distinct lack of nice restaurants. There is lots of graffiti, broken pavements, cheap souvenir shops and the beaches are overcrowded. We did however find that the Old Town was much more attractive.
We would never return to Salou and certainly not to this Hotel.
