I have just returned from a fortnight at this hotel and think it was very good value for money. The hotel is clean and all the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our bedroom was very comfortable and, for the first time ever on a foreign holiday, we had a double bed which was a pleasant surprise. There was a small fridge and a kettle in the room with a basket of tea, coffee, sugar and containers of longlife milk provided. The bathroom had all the usual amenities plus a bidet. The room was cleaned daily and if we had wanted we could have had clean towels every day. The balcony had 2 sun beds, a table and 2 ordinary chairs and a very useful expanding clothes line. We were on the 7th floor in room 706 and unfortunately the position of this room was awful. We were at the end of the building and on one side of us was the extractor fan from the kitchen. Every morning between 8 a.m and 8.30 a.m we were woken by the deafening noise of the fan starting up and this continued until about 10pm. Not only did we have to suffer the noise but the smell of cooking was over powering. With hindsight, I suppose we should have complained and insisted on being moved.

The food was fabulous and as it is a buffet style you can have as llittle or as much as you want. I didnt hear anyone complain about the food as there was always so much choice that even the fussiest eater was catered for. We soon learned that there were times to avoid if you wanted to avoid waiting for a table.

The evening entertainment was good and most of the shows were very enjoyable. The entertainment team worked very hard to ensure that all ages and nationalities enjoyed themselves. One of the team called Israel was brilliant as his command of English was superb and his bingo calling was hilarious. I dont like bingo but he made the nightly activity a hoot. The pillars in the bar were a real problem as many of the guests could see nothing. Some of the entertainers were aware of this and went out into the audience for short moments but for the majority of the time the guests seated left of the middle of the stage saw nothing.

We came to the conclusion that Salou is the Spanish answer to Blackpool. It is full of tacky shops offering tacky souvenirs and cafes offering British food and sky football!! But .... it is a useful base and there is such a good local bus service that you can soon travel to Cambrils or Tarragona and these are delightful places. Of course we also went to Port Aventura and had a fun time. I would strongly advise buying the tickets before travelling. Currently the daily ticket is 43 euros and I bought a 14 day pass for the 2 of us in England for £118 so made a huge savingas we visited the park three times and then passed our tickets on. We also visited Montserrat, Sitges and Reus and liked these places as they have retained their own charm.

A holiday is what you make it .............. but this hotel and the local area did a great deal to make our holiday a brilliant two weeks. (just make sure you dont get room 706!)

i would reccomend this hotel to absoulutly anybody.

Entertainment at the hotel is FANTASTIC especially for the little ones and then there is entertainment for everyone after the mini disco

Staff were really helpful if u needed anything you could just walk up to the thomson desk and she/he would be able to point you in the right direction.

Also if you could get a chance to go into the spa which they have in hotel which does cost extra 5euros it is worth it it is lovly.

I reccomend to go to Portaventura theme park this was amazing as when me and my boyfriend went we had a fantastic time there a little noddy train picked us up from just up the road by a hotel called calipso it costs 3euros each.

Also when comming out of hotel if you turn right and walk up to the second turning right there i a pub called Funky Monkey (English bar) which is amazing quality of food for money.

i would rate this hotel over 10/10 as this was the second time i have been here.

We have travelled to this hotel for several years over Christmas & New Year and are always pleased with our holiday. We find that the staff remain largely the same, year to year and feel that this gives a good indication of the quality of the service that you can expect. We have an adult son with learning difficulties and he is treated with politeness and respect. All the staff are friendly and helpful without being subservient. If you can eat all that is put before you at the New Year's eve gala dinner, you are a better man than me - and the free bar from midnight onwards comes as a very welcome gift. This is a comfortable and relaxed hotel, without artifice or pretension.

Spent five days at this Hotel, found all staff really helpful and pleasant, good varied entertainment. Lovely pools outside and in went in August always got sun beds without joining the 9 o'clock rush, as the doors are shut until 9 so no one can save beds at sily hours in the morning. The rooms are small but clean and have a kettle and fridge, the safe is 4 euros a day. At the end of your holiday if they have any spare rooms it costs 30 euros to keep until 6pm. They never had a spare room for us but was very helpful and allowed us to use a room to just go and shower in.The food was really good and a wide variety to sort all, breakfast ham, cheese ect egg ,bacon,, sausages toast, boiled eggs cereal, cakes and fruit. Dinner soups, salads, diet section, chips pizzas, kebabs, large variety cooked meats and vegetables, pasta, and chef cooking fish meat, fruit and cakes, even my 12 year old who i usually have trouble with found something to eat without complaining. The hotel is in a very good position close to all shops, beach and bars about 5-10 minute walk, so away from lots of noise. If you go right out of Hotel then next right is a supermarket and the funky monkey pub the drinks are cheaper.and they have bingo and quiz, every night, they also have 2 for 1 deals for the theme park if you buy coke at the moment, if you carry on to end of the road you get to shops. If you turn left out of Hotel then first left is nice bar resturant nice food if you need breakfast, lunch or dinner when you arrive, or are late leaving. You can get to the shops if you carry on down this road. To get to the main beach turn left out of Hotel then second left continue all the way down lovely beach lots to do.You can get a train or bus to Barcelona and the other water park in La Pina is very good.

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks staying at the Golden Port Salou. We arrived in the early hours after a delay at Barcelona Airport (due to Solmar car hire taking so long - a 3 hour wait). When we did eventually arrive the Hotel had already transferred our evening meal for that night onto lunch the following day.

The rooms were comfortable and reasonably sized they were cleaned effectively everyday.

The restaurant provided a wide variety of different types of food so that everyone in our party always had something they enjoyed, even the more fussy eaters. There were of course times when the restaurant was particularly busy and there was a queue to get in, however these were dealt with pretty quickly. The restaurant staff were pretty efficient in ensuring that the buffet was constantly replenished. If we were going out at night the head waiter was happy to swap our evening meal for lunch. No he didn't smile much but with 800 people using the restaurant daily - he was quite busy!!!

The pool area was fabulous. Having read a few reviews before we went we expected it to be difficult to get sunbeds, that didn't prove to be the case although the couple of times we went down to get sunbeds when people were waiting for the pool area to open it was funny watching people run to get the sunbed they wanted. We always got the sunbeds we wanted and there were always spare beds throughout the whole day. There was a good mix of shaded areas and full sun around the pools.

The entertainment programme laid on by the hotel was excellent, largely as a result of the energy of the entertainment staff. Participation in all activities was excellent and there was something for all age groups. Guiseppe is quite sexy!!! Isabel was brilliant with the kids - you need to watch the mini disco - its hilarious.

Portaventura was excellent (get your tickets in the uk before you go) - much cheaper as you will need 3/4 days to get round without being exhausted.

We really enjoyed it and couldn't fault them.

This was a pleasent place to stay. Endless amounts of food at the buffet, rooms cleaned daily if you wanted and close enough to the beach and night life without it being overly noisy/crowded. HOWEVER, we did find the reception staff (and some others) very rude, with no need to be, especially as we created no excess noise, tipped generously and used fluent spanish. Also, opposite our balcony there is a building site which created alot of noise. Despite this it was a nice hotel, with nice food and entertainment daily.

just returned from a 2 week holiday with my husband and daughter, Had an excellent holiday, food was really good, plenty of choice, rooms were cleaned every day and had fresh towels and also had a fridge and a kettle which we found really good. Location only 5 mins walk from centre and 10 mins from beach but we found a smaller beach which was less crowded, just go to center near burger king and walk up the hill, it was loveley and sea very shallow. Hotel staff were polite and friendly and entertainment was very good( not your normal elvis impersonator) Check out the funky monkey bar which is to the right of the hotel when you walk out of reception and turn right at next junction next to the supermarket as drinks are much cheaper and much stronger than in the hotel, that is the only fault as drinks are really expensive compared to other bars and spirits are on optics and not free flow. Overall we had a really good holiday and some fabulous weather.

The 1st thing I shall say about this hotel is that it has been the best hotel i have ever stayed in. There was 3 of us ranging between the ages of 18 to 21, and we really enjoyed this hotel. we found it suitable for all ages, families and couples.

We arrived at the hotel approximately 10.00pm and because we missed dinner they had kept us a small meal in the restaurant, which was very nice of them. Also as we arrived at the hotel it looked very clean and welcoming. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were also very clean and suitable for what we needed, they were very comfortable. We were on the forth floor and had a lovely view of the main pool. The rooms had a kettle, hairdryer, fridge and safe in it. The rooms were cleaned everyday.

The restaurant was very spacious and the food was fantastic. Over the 2 weeks that we stayed the food was never repeated. There was lots of choice and even the fussiest eaters should enjoy the food. One night a week there would be a themed night, our 1st week was a seafood theme and the 2nd week was a chinese theme. Also on fridays there was a gala dinner in which you got a free glass of champagne. The food throughout the holidays was very nice. The breakfast also had a wide variety of choice and was very nice. They even catered for diabetics.

The pool area of the hotel was very nice. There were 2 large outdoor pools and 1 indoor pools, a childrens pool, and 3 jacuzzis (not heated in summer season). These pools were very clean and spacious, with enough sunbeds for those who needed them. At this hotel there was a spa, for 5 euros you could go in for 1 hour and 15 mins. The spa consisted of a sauna, steambath, tropical shower, and a large heated pool with different types of jacuzzi areas (an area where you lie down, stand and an area to sit). We really enjoyed using the spa.

The bar was reasonabley priced. The best time to go was between 8 and 9, this was happy hour and drinks were buy 1 get 1 free. We often found that the drinks were sometimes cheaper than the bars outside the hotel. The barstaff were very friendly and caring. The told us not to take lots of money out or take mobile phones with us. They also suggested good places to go.

The entertainment of the hotel was very good during the day. Guiseppe (very sexy) was the main entertainer for the adults and he would encourage everyone to join in. Guiseppe was very friendly and also caring, and would make you laugh, he was very funny. He had a good sense of humor. The entertainment at night was good, although the start was more aimed at children. There would be bingo then a mini disco for the children. There was then different shows shown after, such as take that tribute and acrobats. After these shows Guiseppe then had a disco in which he encouraged us to go on the stage and dance. This was very fun and a good laugh. usually after the disco we would go into salou to the bars which were only about 5-10mins away, a good place we went to often was Charlie Chaplins.

Overall this hotel was amazing, all the staff were friendly and caring. The hotel was situated in a good place, shops and bars were 5 mins away and beaches were about 10-15 mins away if walking. This hotel is suitable for all ages including groups, couples and families. it was a nice, relaxing and fun holiday here. We will definatley be back to this hotel next yr

Golden Port Salou is the best hotel me and my cousins have ever stayed in!

On arriving to the hotel we had no problems straight to the room which was very clean on 4th floor with a nice pool view.

The hotel is very clean with friendly staff who are always willing to help if needed.

The food is amazing never repeated itself for the 2 weeks i stayed. Chinese night was the best night for me. breakfast is very nice so much to choose from.

Bar staff are very friendly and cute who look after you.

Entertainment is excellent around the pool. Giuseppe was the entertainment man and he was very friendly and got everyone to join in with games and have alot of fun.

Entertainment on a night time wasnt so good could be a bit better but they is many of good clubs and bars in Salou. I would advise on seeing Mitzi Champagne in Ski Hut bar on a saturday night 11pm ( best drag act on Salou for 4 years running) funniest man i have ever seen!!

Me and my cousins will be back same time next year!! Well worth every penny.

Spa is amazing good fun if the weather is cloudy!!

Me and two friends have just come back from a long weekend stay at the golden port, Salou.

We arrived in Salou around 10am and found it very easy to get to the hotel. We just went over to on of the buses and the driver sold us a return ticket to our hotel, they drop you off and pick you up for your return flight, and at a very cheap price of 6 euro's i recommend it.

We arrived at our hotel and our first impressions were, we were a bit out of the way from the beach. But it was very quiet and away from all the busy streets.

We could check in as soon as we arrived, We had a top floor and pool view which we requested as me and my friend both work in the travel industry.

At first we couldn't get into our room as the key card did not work, we had to ask passing cleaner, who then said "three" referring to the amount of people entering the room, we replied with yes and she and another cleaner went into our room, which only had 2 beds and a sofa, but the sofa pulled out into a bed. as we were staying 3 nights we just took it in turn to rotate beds.

the rooms were big enough, but the bathroom was on the small side. The TV did not work at first, but we jiggled some wires at the back and got a clearer picture. If you're from England and miss English TV, it has BBC 1 and a few over English channels.

Once we had settled we went to the Thomson rep and asked for directions to the beach, there are 2 beaches close to the hotel, about a 15 minute walk. There's a little cove beach in cap Salou and the main beach in the Salou centre. We found both these beaches packed, so we hopped on a bus up into la Pineda where the beach was better and a lot quieter, They have masseuses walking up and down offering a massage at only 10 euro's this was a bargin, as my friend highly enjoyed it.

We have read quiet a few reviews of the food at the hotel, most of them saying there is a wide choice of food, me and my friends found it hard to make up a whole meal, there was just bits of this and that, and a lot of chips. Breakfast however, was a lot better. We had a cooked breakfast of sausages, bacon (beware, the Spanish like to keep the bones in) beans and eggs. There was also a lot of pastry's, jams and cereal. Also a choice of tea, coffee's and juices.

Also in the reviews people mentioned having a hard time trying to get a sun lounger by the pool, most days it was empty and we had no problem getting one.

On two of our days we decided to go to the SPA, at 5 euro's this was a bargain, but beware, the entrance coming from the pool, down steps is very very slippery, especially with flip flops. I fell and slipped down around 5 or 6 steps and I'm now completely bruised as a result, so the best way to get in is through the main lobby, by the inside bar.

The steam room, sauna, jacuzzi pool and showers and all the other facility's were fantastic! If you are staying here for a week, two weeks or just along weekend you must visit the SPA, towels and a locker are included in the price.

We went out most night so didn't really check out the entertainment, but the last night we decided to stay at the hotel, sat in the bar by the pool and listened to a tribute band playing inside, the drinks are cheaply priced, but the quality of them are also cheap.

Overall this is a great little place if you are staying a weekend or a week, there loads of excursions, we went on the catamaran for 30 euro's which lasted 3 hours and included drinks, as many as you like! even beer for the men.

Portaventura was amazing, loads of rides for children to, and you can catch the portaventura train cart for 3 euro's, which is great for kids to.

Good Points - Friday night dinner very nice with excellent choice. 2 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. Had a nice big room. Thompson holiday reps excellent. Israel, Guisseppi and Isa the entertainment team. Quick transfer to hotel. Spa excellent.

Bad points - Everything else!!! Was on 7th floor, went in May so had some rain but the roof leaked and the whole corridor was wet right from our room to the lifts. Red dye running out of the carpet and staining clothes and mats! Room very hot even with doors open. Hotter in room than outside! Reception rude and NOT helpful. Food was OK but I got food poisioning on the last day and not sure if that was from the hotel or a bar along the seafront. Can't access the pool area, or bar seating area, pool tables, games room or indoor pool until after 9am when they unlock the door. Loads of children, many unaccompaned by a parent and out of control screaming, splashing and being a pain. Broken glass on the table at dinner. Myself and my husband were often sat on a table for 4 with 2 other guests we didn't know, the waiter moving the table slightly to separate it a milimeter. Restaurant roof leaked by the front of the hotel. Lifts very random, have to wait ages for them, especially if you're on the 7th floor! Would NOT go back or reccommend!!!!

Myself and my boyfriend travelled to Salou on the 30th April 2008 and stayed at the Golden Port Hotel for 1 week on a half board basis for a week of sun, sea and .... sunbathing lol, with bit of partying in thrown in as well!!!!

We got on a local bus from the airport as we had booked our flights seperately. This took approx 30 min and dropped us off right outside the hotel.

The hotel was a four star and we found it immaculate. The pool area was large with 2 pools and free sunbeds. The hotel was very clean, the room was on the 5th floor and was spotless with a power shower, fridge and safe. The view was lovely, overlooking the pool. We had maid service everyday. Drinks at the bar inside were very reasonably priced and there was waitress service outside.

There was one restaurant in the hotel and the food was always hot and had the usual selection to choose from. We ended up eating out some nights as it tends to get a little boring doing the same thing every night, but found the hotel food was probably better than most food we sampled outside the hotel!!! The breakfast was really good :)

There was entertainment in the evening in the hotel and there were various activites to keep children entertained throughout the day.

Personally I wouldn't want to visit this hotel in the summer holiday's as it is very family orientated! So if it's a quiet week or 2 your looking for - you would be better suited elsewhere. It wouldn't suit groups or anyone looking for a lively party atmosphere in the hotel.

The beach (which was also nice and clean ) was a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel which led down the main "strip", where all the bars and shops are.

This was our first time visiting Salou, and would defintely go back. Everything about the place was clean, reasonably priced and it was very easy to get around on public transport. The weather in Salou was really hot (31 degrees) for May time and had a really relaxing and fun time. There's something for everyone here.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to visit this hotel.

Have fun :)

Good points re the hotel: Kettle in room so you can make your own cups of tea/coffee,Free Fridge,Food excellent and hotel very clean. 10 minute walk from centre of Salou. Can get 2 English channels on TV - BBC World and ITV 1 (its the Midlands service they have). Pool side rooms excellent too, but if you get a room facing the main road at the back, you are looking on to a building site and its noisy. 15 minute walk to Port Aventura Theme Park.

Bad points re the hotel: Air conditioning poor. Room never gets cold, even in early May it was 25c in room with air con on. I have a reliable temp gauge with me so I know this to be accurate. Must check out of your room by 10am (breakfast does not finish until 1015am) You can book your room for the rest of the day at a cost of €30.00. Expensive. We had a night flight back at 11pm. We asked the receptionist if we could have our room for some extra time as a member of out party was disabled - was told to ask on the morning you are leaving - no leeway given. Bit of a rush to leave hotel by 10am in the morning and worth bearing in mind if you are not leaving the resort until later in the day.

i have stayed in this hotel now 4 times over the past 2 years and we are returning a further 2 times later on this year. i am 18 and quite a fussy eater but i find the food is fantastic, plenty of choice and i have before asked for something else i.e strawberry Jelly and the waiters got it for me every time, on my 18th birthday spent in the hotel they set up a table in the outdoor terrace for me and 11 of my family/friends with banners and balloons (provided by mum) and also they made me a birthday cake free of charge, flowers and champagne waiting in my room for when i returned all as a suprise.

the entertainment is good too ranges from magic shows, disco, snakes, singers and mr and mrs golden port which is a game show that you can win with all different games.

The pool generally is quite busy but at 9.00 when the doors open everybody run out to put towels onto the sunbeds but if you ask the life guard they will remove the towels for you and explain to the guests when they return that they cannot do it.

in the reveiws ive read that theres no adult entertainment,... completly wrong!!! everyday theres a choice of like football, darts, pool championships, shooting, dance, sangaria making, hoola dance lessons (funny to watch) and theres every day aqua arobics and always music playing by the pool.

the hotel was refurbished last year making the rooms nicer and brighter. if you ring up 1 weeks before (mostly in april-may, sept - dec months) then they will put u on a list for pool views becuase the other veiws are mostly rubbish, but who spends there holiday in there room???

salou its self its brilliant, for all ages and relationships im going with friends and then with family this year and ther is 2 water parkscosta caribe and aqua polic, spains biggest theme park port aventura, barcelona around the corner, 2/3 beaches, lazer water shows, cambrills down the road with the fishing village and boutiqe shops and their karting track, bike hire etc...

i definatly reccommend ignore all the naff reveiws they are lying !!!! haha.
