On arrival at Zurich airport there was a Swiss Travel rep waiting for us as promised, who directed us to the train platform and said she would ring the rep at our resort to let him know we arrived early and would be catching an earlier train. An hour later we got off the train in Lucerne and were met by Daniel our rep. He booked us a taxi to take us to the hotel. Our first impression of the hotel was positive- it was bright and spacious and modern. Our room was on the 5th floor no 504 and we were very pleased with it. It is well worth paying extra for a lake view room at this hotel- it was just gorgeous, only the road was between us and the lake and being so high up the view was even better. We had a balcony with table and chairs on, the room itself had a good sized bed, there was a fruit bowl, and plenty of wardrobe space. There was a bathroom with bath and basin, another room contained the toilet and bidet.
We had half board, there was a fairly good spread of continental style fayre for breakfast, and the 4 course meals at dinner were really excellent. Vegetarians should be warned though that the main course was always a choice of either meat or fish, so not sure how you would find it. Really good quality food though, service very good too. Only complaint is that it is all smoking at dinner, when we were there luckily there weren't many smokers but if there were a lot this could be quite off-putting for non- smokers. Put this feedback on our review form when we left the hotel!
Reception staff were always friendly and helpful.
The hotel itself is about a 40 minute walk from the town, a pleasant walk as it is all beside the lake, but if you are tired the bus stops right outside the hotel- there is a ticket machine at the bus stop where you buy your ticket before getting on, directions can be in English too. Buses are regular and easy to use, so don't let the hotel's less than central location put you off.
The Verkershaus (transport museum) is easy walking distance from the hotel, well worth a visit. Lucerne itself is a nice town ad can be used as a basis for loads of excursions.
