i came in 2008 and it was brilliant, we was a family of 6 we was self catering, but we are coming back all inclusive if we get a good deal this year. iv been to some bad hotels and this is one of the most family friendly hotels, only thing i would say is that im hoping there is a life guard this time round as its hard for me to keep my eye on 4 young kids and last time my boy fell in age 2 luckily i was there but im hoping i can relax a lil more if there is a life guard there (i dont mean leave the kids but not panic so much when we are at the pool cus i will know i have help there. was a brill time though.... cant wait to check out the new improvements but i thought it was good before, as soon as iv saved enough i will be back to see. loved it last time, wait for my next review and u will know, as im fussy!!!

Firstly, i think it needs to be said that the Festival Village is now a modern, clean, well decorated hotel thanks to its recent makeover. We stayed in B Block which was seperate from the main hotel and we found it clean, very big in size and very comfortable for a for our family of 6 (2 adults, 4 kids).
Also in our group was a couple (inlaws/outlaws lol) who stayed in a different appartment in the main hotel block. (we compared against our accomodation as you do, and found it very clean and spacious).
On arrival, we were not asked for a deposit although a small fee would be required if we needed a safe.
One appartment had no kettle, when asked for one, it arrived within 1/2 hour and brand new. Our Aircon controller was not working which we mentioned to the reception - within an hour we had another controller (which worked). Great at keeping us happy we felt.
All staff were very friendly, from the management (who sorted us out with a meal as when we arrived, the snack bar had closed) right through to the cleaners.
Bar staff we brilliant, they work really hard and we appreciated that . . . . well you would being all inclusive wouldnt you lol.
Kids were in the kids club, both chantelle and Dan looked after them and they did a great job, kids wont stop talking about them.
Entertainment was good with something every night.
Food was good all round, good selection. New Luna snack bar opened when we were there which was very nice.
Would happily go back.
Pool was good, bigger than mostin the area that we saw on our way to Salou. Not a boring shape either and lifeguard on duty. Kids loved it!!!!
Sorry to go on but i think some reviews on here would put people of and are out of date. we found the hotel great value and we were very happy there. Thanks for a good holiday Festival Village.

Filhy, graffiti everywhere, staff rude, loud throughout the nights.................. Please avoid this hellhole
Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to write your review, and apologies that your time here with us was not an enjoyable one. The Festival Village is a very family orientated active hotel with activities taking place throughout the day and night, I apologies if this caused you any disturbance or upset. We do have security of an evening to try and ensure noise levels are kept to a minimum again if you did not find this we apologies. The Festival Village always takes everyone’s opinions and comments in to consideration, and have decided to make several changes to the Festival for summer 2010. The festival Village will now operate as 100% all inclusive hotel, giving you the best of both worlds apartments with all inclusive. This will mean that all apartments will have daily clean just as if you was in a hotel. The pool area will have a new cheringuito serving your all inclusive drinks throughout the day and evening We will be having a new bar / restaurant where the supermarket used to be with a nice new terrace for you to sit back and relax. We have a fuller and new entertainment program, for the adults and children throughout the day and evening with our resident English speaking entertainers. The whole property will be given an overall, clean, paint and general maintenance work done. The All inclusive option giving you, the choice of local spirits beers, wines and soft drinks for a minimum of 12 hours per day. Snacks such as hot dogs, pizza, burgers, chips, nuggets and more will be served throughout the day. Your all inclusive meals, breakfast, lunch and evening meal are all included with a choice of buffet or the new restaurant (menu) you can also opt for a take away service and eat your evening meal in relaxation of your own balcony or apartment. The Festival will also be offering a free shuttle service to Salou. Once again I thank you for your comments and apologies the festival was not for you, and we assure you that changes are been made to ensure we are offering a fantastic family all inclusive hotel in the Costa Dorada. Anyone with any concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.

We were steered towards Festival village by the tour guide who painted a glowing picture of the hotel. I also read the reviews before we went and was worried about the hotel especially as I have a son with cerebral palsy who has problems with mobility. We chose the self catering option as we have to be careful of certain additives in foods.
We hired a car and so only used the hotel as a base to go to Portaventura and the surrounding area and it was perfect for our needs. We ate out in Salou a lot and didnt get back to the hotel until late. If you can I would recommend hiring a car as there is nothing in Cap Salou, but the buses stop right outside the hotel. Also if you go to Portaventura and need a buggy or wheelchair get there as early as possible otherwise they will all be gone. Its 7 euros to park your car and 7 euros to hire a wheelchair.
The staff were warm and friendly, any question we had or anything that we needed was dealt with straight away and I cant fault them. They were excellent with my son and extremely patient, playing noughts and crosses with him for about an hour.
Yes the hotel does need a bit of tlc which is why I marked it 9 and not 10. Some of the furniture had seen better days and on the self catering side a few more utensils would have been nice, but they are only niggles. The dirt on the floor that people complain about is actually sand that you walk into the apartment every day.
Would I use the hotel again, as a base for the theme park and the area definitely, but as a holiday destination then no, we didnt like the area and found it very expensive.

To say im glad to be home form this place is an understatement! It was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in, and i only gave it 1 out of 10 because i couldnt give it a 0. The apartment we stayed in stunk of stale tobacco, if you are a non smoker it was sickening. The place was filthy, especially the floors, my children only had to walk about barefoot for 5 minutes and their feet were black! The rooms could have used a coat of paint as there was crayon writing all over the walls. The shower bracket was broken so we couldnt use the shower The wardrobe in our room was broken, on the 2nd day our room was flooded due to water coming in under the patio doors after heavy rain during the night, which after battling with the staff, we got moved to another room, only this was smaller and our 2 boys had to top and tail in a single bed! The wardrobe in this room was also broken and we had to have it fixed. The staff themselves were rude and kept us waiting to have anything done. The pool was so cold because the hotel shadow covered the pool so the water couldnt be heated up. The list is endless and the holiday was totally ruined because of what i can only describe as a very inadequate hotel, how First Choice have it in their brochures is beyond me! After reading some reviews on here we were quite wary but we had already booked it, so if i were you, i would read reviews and we certainly were disappointed beyond belief about the state of this hotel! I would definately go somewhere else if you can. Avoid this hotel at all costs!

I read the reviews on here before leaving for my family holiday,I stupidly thought that people were being picky. On arrival myself husband and 3 children aged 11,7 and 5 were dropped at the top of the hotel's steps and told to make our way to reception. We were asked for a 90 euro deposit for our room and had to pay 20 euro's for a safe key of which 5 euro's were refundable. On arrival at our room we realised we were on the second floor,we had stipulated to the travel agent we needed a ground floor apartment as our youngest child has Autism and see's no danger. We tried the appartment for 1 night but didn't get much sleep as my child had tried earlier in the day to climb on to the balcony to try to watch the passing traffic,if there had been a regular key for the balcony therer would of been no problem, but a thin piece of metal on a toilet chain, was used to secure the patio door, and could very easily be removed by a child. We explained to the rep's that we had asked for a ground floor appartment,to which they didn't seem interested about our plight until my husband told them that they would be held resonsible if anything happened to our child.miraculousely we got a call saying we could have a ground fllor room but had to pay 55.50 euro's,we paid the money and was left in the lobby with 3 kids and our luggage for 2 hours, while they were supposedly cleaning our room.On our arrival at our room,I couldn't believe how dirty the room eas,we found fingernail's in the bathroom, the toilet moved freely ,every wall was dirty, floor was dirty, door frames split, and lock's exposed, hole in bathroom ceiling,it's the first holiday I have been on and had to clean my room, before I could allow my kid's in there. There is no oven in the room ,no sattelite tv,air conditioning works thank goodness as it was very hot.The pool looks nothing like the pictures you see in the brochures, but the kids were happy with it,apart from the wasps that were in swarms around the pool, due to the 4 wasp nests on the side of our appartment which the hotel did nothing about, this also stopped us using our terrace. We changed to breakfast and evening meal on the 3rd day as Salou is very very expensive, and have to be honest the food was very nice.Be very careful if using the bus service as they are very expesive,a trip for 5 to Salou cost over 20 euro's one way.General condition of hotel is very dirty and unkept, the entertainment suited us fine, but children over 12 had no interest at all. There were many many negatives and only a couple of postives on our holiday, and anyone thinking of booking here I would seriousely advise against it
I would like to take this opportunity in responding to the review. Firstly thank you for taking the time to write your review as good and negative feedback is much appreciated. I am glad you found the food to be very nice and your comments will be passed to the chef. The festival village advertises that there is a deposit to be paid on arrival, and this is the responsibility of your tour operator to inform you of this. Even though we try to accommodate all requests it is sometimes not possible, depending on how busy the hotel is, please accept my apologies that your request for a ground floor was not granted as these are not guaranteed and this should have also been explained to you by your tour company. I apologies that you did not find the cleanliness of the `property to be of a good standard this will be addressed and several changes are all already in place for summer 2010. Oven – again this has been changed with the tour operator, and you should have been advised by your tour company, as the festival has never had ovens. Safety deposit box – this is standard across mainland Spain that you be charged for the use of this box. With regards to the wasps I sincerely apologise and this will be looked in to with maintenance, as there is lots of changes planned for 2010 The Festival Village always takes everyone’s opinions and comments in to consideration, and have decided to make several changes to the Festival for summer 2010. The festival Village will now operate as 100% all inclusive hotel, giving you the best of both worlds apartments with all inclusive. The Festival Village is in need of a facelift, very dated interior and dirty exterior. The pool is small and does not resemble in any way how it looks in the broucher. The rooms get cleaned once a week and the bed linen changed once a week which I think is totally disguisting for Self catering accommodation. You have to chase up housekeeping half the time for toilet rolls and towels. The point it doesnt mention in the broucher is that the hotel is out in the middle of nowhere and to get into Salou its a 40 min walk. The best beach is not just a short distance away, again its a 20 min walk. They did have entertainment everynight but it was dragged out to last the night and by the end of the night you were bored of waiting for the main act to come on, which wasnt always that great. The food was good though, just be aware that drinks are not included in your main meal. Water wasnt even available with your evening meal. Prepare for a wait at the bar as the Staff are extremely slow and can be rude especially when talking to kids.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review as everyone’s opinion and comments are important to use to enable to move forward in this current market. Taking on board all your comments and the comments of others the Festival Village has changed its product and service for 2010. Please accept our sincere apologies with regards to the cleanliness and maid service, the Festival will be all inclusive for summer 2010 and will have maid service daily, like a hotel, bed linen every 4 days and towels daily. The only part the cleaners will not clean daily is the kitchen. Due to offering apartments on all inclusive, the supermarket will be changed in to an extra restaurant to cater for this giving you the choice of buffet or ordering from a menu. You will also be able to take away your meals to eat in the comfort of your own apartment if you wish. There will be extra resident entertainers in the property to ensure there is always something taking place for all the family to enjoy, and the evening shows have been changed for this summer. We intend to make changes to the staffing and structure and can only apologies you felt they were rude and this will be addressed. Once again thank you for your comments, and our sincere apologies your time with us was not as you wanted.

Firstly, apologies in advance to Jose, the hotel manager. He is flogging a dead horse- you cannot make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
The hotel is ok, but has been wrecked and abused by previous guests. Most of the people that were staying at the same time as us were awful- loud mouthed and uncouth. Many parts of the grounds were overgrown with huge brambles hanging over the pathways.
We took our disabled/ special needs son for his first holiday abroad, and this place was recommended by our local Thomson travel agent as a base for the Port Aventura theme park. We read the reviews after booking, and when we tried to change the hotel. the staff were extremely unsympathetic, saying that we should have read up before we booked. The reason we didnt do this is because we trusted the woman in the shop. NEVER AGAIN! Maybe we never use Thomson again, a shame after nearly 15 years with them.
On the last day, our son had a 'temper' fit. Some people may say that we should not of took him, but he has only 'kicked off' 3 times in 2 years, and usually when he doesnt get his own way- this holiday was entirely based around his enjoyemoent, and he went beserk after disappearing and being told he had to stay with us for the last few hours while waiting for the transfer coach to the airport.
He is like an animal when he goes into a rage, and I had to restrain him. I admit that this was very unpleasant for the other guests, but it was made worse by the gethering of a small crowd hoping to witness a fight. They were disgusting. The spanish staff completely misread the situation, and I can only thank God the police were not called- I genuinely fear that my son would have been shot. ( He is 22 with the mind of an 8 year old).
Now for the hotel. It IS dirty and grubby, despite the efforts of the staff.
The air conditioning in our apartment was only in the lounge area, and it was so hot in the bedroom that my wife and I moved the beds into the lounge to benefit from thye air con.
The kitchenette was adequate wit a hob, a grill/ microwave, and cutlery/ crockery provided.
The two large sofabeds were very uncomfortable to sit on, let alone sleep on.
The bathroom was small but reasonably clean. The sink unit was falling apart, and the sink was loose and moved about in it's 'hole' in teh top of the unit, I guess it would of been easy to snap the water pipes if it had been leant against.
The remot control unit for the air con was secured to the wall. This was, I imagine, to prevent it from being stolen. This is one of several indications of the management's low opinion of the typical class of clientele that this place attracts. ( Many people speak of the cheap price they paid for their holiday- we paid £1600 for 4 of us, and that was including a free child place. I thought it was disgustingly overpriced).
I have read on other reviews about patio door problems, and bathroom door problems. Ours were fine.
The floor was dusty, and did blacken our feet. I walk around bare footed in my own house, and do not get black feet- the floors here are simply not kept clean. And what right has anybody got to tell me where and when to keep my shoes on indoors?
I cannot comment much on the entertainment, although the few bits I did see, it looked like the girls were working hard and the children seemed happy enough.
The food....
We went self catering, and did not use the all inclusive offer. This was mainly because we intended to be at the theme park until 20.00 most evenings, and dinner service stops at 20.30. However, we tried the evening meal once. There was a good choice, some good, some bad. A hamburger I tried almost made me sick with one mouthful- it actually tasted rancid, and I had to surrepticiously spit it out. The chicken portions were so dry I could not eat it. Maybe this was just because the food was presented buffet style, and some of it dried out. There was a good choice of very attractive and tasty deseserts, and plenty of fresh fruit and salads. The price in September was 9.70 euros for an all you can eat buffet, and would be excellent value if it had been edible! ( Just my opinion, but then some people will eat anything if its' cheap enough!)
Breakfast was a different story, in my opinion, it was pretty spot on, and excellent value for 6 euros, 4 euros for children. The only downside was that the fried eggs all had hard yolks, and the fruit juice seemed to actually be fruit squash, very under diluted.
We found eating out wherever we went to be very expensive compared to the UK. Even if the currency exchange rate were to be discounted from the price comparison, it was still grossly overpriced, for example, a big mac meal in Salou Macdonalds was nearly seven euros, compared with £4.50 in the UK!
Local beaches are easy to get to, the best deal is the travel cards that other reviews have described. DO NOT USE THE LOCAL TAXIS!! They grossly overcharge, we used four taxis, and were ripped off by each one.
Matt, the rep we met, was understanding and as helpful as possible. Maggies, the customer relations lady, is lovely, and is a weath of local knowledge. Unfortunately, she is only human, and nothing short of a miracle will change the clentele- which to me, was mainly made up of bargain hunting working class thugs and unemployed yobos. On the other hand, there were also some very nice people there too, who shared the same opinions as myself. You only have to read the reviews, and note the poor spelling and grammar, and some pathetic whinges that could have been resolved with a bit of common sense, to realise the type of person that frequnts this establishment.
Maria, a lady who worked on reception ( I am unsure of her role in the staffing structure of the hotel), seemed ok, but she did not, in my opinion, have much humour. The older lady who worked with her was even worse, and in my opinion, arrogant and unhelpful, both seeming to have a low opinion of the British, Scottish, Welsh and Irish alike.
On the last day, when we had the unfortunate incident with our son, bothe were extremely unhelpful and not interested when our 22 year old special needs son disappeared
They accused my wife of not looking after him properly, and when we asked to have a look at the video tapes from the security cameras to see if we could tell which way he went, they sent us into the shop, saying that the computer could only be accessed from the shop. However, regardless of the hotel claiming that the staff speak very good English, the man in the shop did not have a clue, so we gave up. Funny though, because when we found our son an hour later, and he went into a rage, everybody understood perfectly. At one point, Maria tried to get us to leave the hotel six hours before our flight, with a panicking special needs lad and a ten year old daughter. Even the rep was disgusted with the way Maria handled the situation, and although she let us stay in the end, I thought that thewhole thing was very poorly and selfishly handled. I have no doubt that the manager, Jose, will have some excuse for his staff's behaviour, but he will only have heard their side, and will of course be extremely biased.
Oh yes, the pool! I nearly forgot! Yes it is a bit small, and decieptfully photograped in the brochures, but during our stay, was adequate. Some of the sun beds do collapse, and there is not much room around the pool. The water was a good temperature for me- cool enough to be refreshing, but not so cold that we could not stay in for long. The ph levels seemed very well kept, and the water was clean. It opened at ten, and closed at seven, which I found very disappointing.
The pool area was abused to the extreme by these unruly guests, and chips, cans, cups, newspapers, even nappies, were thrown around at will. Everything was cleared up spotlessly after the pool closed, but by noon the next day was trashed again. The men in the green shirts, I dont know their job title, spoke to me at length about how they hate the british, and considered them to be animals.
But the most positive thing - Oscar, one of the life guards. Oscar is, without doubt, one of the kindest, caring, and trustworthy people that I have ever met, and he is wasted at this hotel, even in Salou. He deserves a medal for the things that he has to put up with, but always kept calm, and smiled at the obnoxious delinquents that his job called for him to deal with. Truly a star, and very worthy of both my praise and admiration.
And one last comment...on the second night, my wife asked for a blanket at reception. Jose pointed to another member of staff, and jokingly suggested that my wife spend the night with him to keep warm!!!! I kept my cool, and made a joke of it, but in reality was deeply offended. I know it was meant as a joke, but really, it was a steo too far.
SUMMARY
Basically, this was supposed to be a base for the theme park. It was HELL- mainly due the rowdiness and classless behaviour from most of the other guests. The whole area, in my opinion, is a complet dump, dirty, overcrowded, expensive, and smelly. I would not return to this area ever again, even if i was paid to. If you are remotely considering staying here, please change your mind, and try somewhere like the Villa Mandi in Tenerife.
It is DISGUSTING. There was no point in complaining at the time, because there is only one thing that will sort this whiole area out, and that is a miracle. Thank God I was only there for a week- I have never been so glad to come home. I would rather have the mother in law come and stay for 6 months!
Thank you for your detailed comments and overall opinion of the Festival Village and Salou. I can only apologies that you did not feel the necessary to voice your opinions whilst here in resort as we may have been able to resolve some of your issues. I can only apologies for the incident you have explained in your review and I am sure that the information which came across to you was not intentional. As explained in many reviews, we are making lots of changes for summer 2010, I understand this does not of course resolve any issues you yourself had, but hope you can see that your comments are taken seriously. The hotel internal and external is having an overall revamp, we are having a new restaurant put in to the property and the staffing structure is due to change. The new all inclusive product, entertainment, maintenance staff changes, will bring the Festival Village back in to the Market our customers are looking for, We cannot choose our customers and apologies they were not to your liking, however with the new product now on the market I am sure the festival will appeal to lots of families looking for a fantastic value for money all inclusive holiday. Thank you for your positive and negative comments

Just back from the Festival Village and really enjoyed our stay. We went self catering, and stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which was located just beside the main building. The apartment was very spacious and clean on arrival with plenty of storage space. The staff ware very friendly and the kids club was extremely well run.
