Do not be fooled by the photos, the reception area may make the hotel look 4 star but it isnt by a long way!! The rooms are tiny and beware of the showers, very dangerouse as they change from cold to scalding. Their is a very busy main road opposite the hotel which is noisey. The hotel is on a hill, you must walk the hill to go anywhere and be warned the street coming to the hotel is very dark and the tiles on the hill up to the hotel very slippy. The que for the sun lounges in the morning has to be seen to be believed, but if you want to guarentee a sun lounger then thats what you have to do. In 2 weeks not once did we see a first choice rep walking around outside, instead the huddle in their office giggling like school kids, they dont meet or greet any trips, but happy to take your money. If offerd the day trip to Barcelona, decline (its cheaper to get the train yourself), they tell you you can walk on the pitch at the Nou Camp (you cant) hold the european cup (you cant unless you pay), they tell you you get 4 hours in Barcelona to shop (You get 2 and a half) this complaint seemed popular as lots of people where complaining. Unless your spanish you will be treated very rudly by the restraunt staff. They say portaventura is 10 mins away, no chance, 30mins, up hill!!! If you want to guarentee sitting next to someone on the flight back they charge you 8 euros each!!! The bars and restraunts are fine, lots of expat bar owners and workers and they are great. WOuld maybe go back to Salou, but never to the Darada Palace.

4 star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!No way.We have stayed in better 3 stars.
Oh my god the queues for the sunbeds in the morning are like waiting for caged animals, waiting to be set free, grown men falling over beds to get to the beds they want!!
You were like sardines at the pool, couldnt hardly move.
We were self catering. The first night we got there we stayed in the hotel as we arrived late.....oh my god cold food, bland and the RUDEST waitress staff in the world.
The appartments were tiny, there was Me my husband and 10yr old daughter in a appartment that was supposed to sleep 4 to 5 people no way!!
The Reception staff were helpfull and the bar staff were friendly.
They say its a 10 min walk to Portaventura yes if your the bloody roadrunner.its about a 20 min walk up a slight hill, which is terrible in the heat!
Would not go back to this Hotel or Salou as its like Blackpool with sun!!!!!!

Dorada Palace is four star definatly should be five. myself, husband and 3 children aged 11, 9, 5 spent a wek there we were in a 1st floor pool view apartment which was excellent as we had the option to watch the evening entertainment from our balcony. The hotel was clean and comfortable all the maid were very pleasant, reception staff equally pleasant The pools were clean and there was a pool attendant on duty all the time Kids club was great. We will definatly return to salou when my son is a bit older as there was many rides in Portaventura he couldnt get on to because of height restrictions.
The theme park is about a 15 min walk from the hotel.
First choice rep are very informative and it is well worth going to their welcome meeting.
I intend when returning to Salou to stay in Dorada Palace again byfar the best looking hotel in the area.

Just landed back in Ireland from our 2 week holiday in sunny Spain.
We stayed at the Dorada Palace Hotel/apartments and I have to say that I was really impressed. They are of an extremley high standard and there isn't anything negative I could really say. The only downside I found was that the apartments were quite small and with a family of six sharing there wasn't much room.
But overall the staff were friendly and the First Choice reps were excellent Chantelle, Jon, Phil and Andy. The entertainment at the hotel was fab and the staff were great with the kids Sole, Danny and Gloria. x x x x
The apartments are just 5 mins from the beach and main shops and after looking around the resort I have to say that there are probably by far the best.
There are 2 main swimming pools and an infant pool.
The service was excellent and the food was outstanding.
I would recommend them to anyone infact I think we will book again. :)

The dorada palace is the best hotel ive ever been too. It is definately the best hotel in the resort of salou, and the beach is very close, as is the theme park. The reps are brilliant, especially the main rep Jon, who i adore!!! He definately made my holiday the best!

my family and I returned from our holiday on 24th july 2008,we found the apartments a little small but very clean, the reception staff and bar staff very unfriendly and would serve the spanish customers before any other nationality. Our first choice representative Andy was most unhelpfull reguarding my request for a 14 day pass for port aventura which he assured me he could not possibly do. I rung First Choice in England, they assured me this could be done but he refused to help in any way or even ring port aventura themselves. He requested that I buy a ticket which would allow me 2 days in the theme park and one in the water park for 73 euros, i therefore went to Port Aventura and bought a 14 day pass for 82 euros. Be warned. The entertainment was pathetic, and the run for the sun beds at 9.00am was a real sight to behold.

we spent 2 weeks with son aged 6 in a one bedroomed apartment on a self catering basis. apartments were a bit on the small side but had all the neccessities and were also cleaned daily.the hotel was very close to portaventura, a ten minute walk away. entertainment onsite was excellent. breakfast in resturaunt was very good value but dinner was only average. pool and bar were spotless clean and the staff were friendly. kids clubs were very good and kept children busy and out of sun at peak times. would definitely recommend for families.

Just got back this morning @6am with my wife, mother and 3 young children.
We arrived at the hotel at 4am with our two rooms ready for us. The rooms are a good size, very clean and of a very good standard. Please be aware if your room happens to be on the road side - as we were their can be some noise so if your a light sleeper request a pool view which is very beautiful. There is a very large coach park at the rear to the hotel,DONT be put off, we never heard any noise from it.
We only have positive comments about this hotel, all the staff were excellent they made us feel very welcome, the food in the restaurant and the poolside bar were very enjoyable and a wide variety, the attention to detail especially in the restaurant.
In the morning at 9am you will find the "sad" people cueing to put there towels on the sun beds, althou the hotel cliam it is not allowed.
The evening entertainment is very good, but I would suggest a night out in Salou on mondays as the staff have a night off and leave you with a karoke night!
The beach and the water park are only a short walk from the hotel, but do not go on a Sunday, because all of the lacals have the day off and its very busy.
My only reason for not giving a 10 is because we could not book a late check out room. We were told when we booked the holiday to try when you get to the hotel, then at the hotel they tell you to ask on your last day. There were no late checks rooms, and the holiday rep did not give us any other options. We were out of are room at 10am and the coach did not pick us up till 2am on the following morning. There are showes and storage area's you can use. I would go back, Salou is a lovely place, but I would change the flight times. Back to the UK rain. Hope this helps.

This is a difficult review, due to the fact i loved the hotel, the food, the reps, the pool, the staff etc. In fact everything within the hotel was terrific. But, Salou is a dodgy resort. I myself was mugged walking back to the hotel at around midnight (wallet taken and cuts and bruises to face) and my missus nearly had her bag snatched on another night, we managed to JUST fight that thief off.
Bewarned, the hotel is off two dark side streets and do not go anywhere alone after dark.
Despite what happened, the hotel is so fantastic that we still had a good holiday but we will never return to Salou.

Just arrived back from the Dorada Palace with my Wife and two Daughters (7, 12), We had a great time the hotel is in a good central spot between Port Aventura and Salou both about 15 minute walks.
We arrived quite late so we were allocated our room straight away the room we found to be quite small for 4 people but it was spotless and we are quite fussy!
The restaurant food was quite good for a Buffet a good variety and and decent quality the grill chef was fantastic he cooks fresh Omelettes and Fried eggs cooked exactly as you want and on an evening he cooks steaks nearly every night. They have themed nights eg Mexican and Italian as well as a Sunday roast on Sunday with Yorkshire Puddings (Frozen). Drinks in the restaurant are reasonable at 1.80 euro a bottle of water or small bottles of coke 2.30 euro.
The pool was clean and the kids loved it please note that inflatable’s are not allowed in the main pool which some people found annoying. The sunbed was a typical rat race on a morning you have to go early to ensure you get a bed or you miss out!
The First Choice trips are well expensive it worked out at about 190 euro for a trip to Barcelona which was a little disappointing to say the least.
Salou itself is good in parts and not so good in parts you soon suss it all out, Port aventura is great we booked a 2 week ticket before we went which works out a hell of a lot cheaper than in resort (it does get very very busy though so you need to choose your times to go best to get there for 10am or after 8pm on a Saturday as its open till midnight).
In summary the Dorada Palace is a good hotel I would say a worthy 4 star rating and well worth a visit.
Enjoy!

Went on holiday with a 3 yr old and a 15 month old. Was all round a good holiday but would like to note a couple of things about the hotel. BE AWARE the receptionists will not let you check in before 2pm no matter what. BE CAREFUL when showering youngsters the water runs hot and cold without notice and it can be VERY HOT. We had to ask for extra blankets and pillows three times before we got any. The girls who clean the room do a good job but one day they broke the cot and did not tell us, we were just lucky that my husband noticed otherwise a nasty accident could have happened. It can be very noisy at night with children running up and down the corridors and they empty the bins on the road just down from reception between 2 and 3 am. The rooms are tiny for a four star especially if you have to accomodate a cot. Don't be put off we did have a great holiday and the children loved it - we just didn't get much sleep!!

Just returned from a holiday in Dorada Palace, first impressions were impressive we arrived late in the night and rooms were quickly allocated and everyone got a welcome pack which had milk, french toast, marmalade and buiscuits in for the morning. Although it was April the weather was lovely and many days were spent on the beach, there is a lovely prom with plenty of shops. The hotel itself was clean and the maid changed towels everyday and bedding every other, there was 2 pools, one childrens pool and an adult only pool on the rooftop with a jacuzzi and work out area this was lovely and great to get away form the younger familys. There was entertainment on every night the only downside was when a Spanish trip arrived and it was clear that the English guests werent as important as them, we went to sit in the bar one night and my husband was watching football a spanish man came and turned the TV over and the entertainment was Spanish, however this could change in the summer seen as though it was out of season.Overall the holiday was great.

We were transferred here from Catalonia Gardens, by travel agents on the first day.
This was like a palace; very clean very friendly staff.
Rooms were well equipped and spotless; cleaned every day, towels for pool available free for whole holiday, Sky TV in rooms, phone, very well furnished very modern. Towels changed when requested.
The pool was very clean and had full time life guard. Kids had great time they really loved it, plus it was not packed this time of year. We would definitely go back.
The kid’s entertainers worked really hard, and were very friendly and fun. Entertainment was fun holiday stuff, quizzes, shows, groups singing, we had a great time!
The location was perfect, no loud clubs close by.
Short walk to town, beach and shops. We found some shops a bit more expensive than others so recommend checking around first.
Only down side was road noise in the morning if the doors were open but not unbearable.
