Caen is a beautiful city and for the most part is very French , lots of quaint little boulangeries and patisseries , cathedrals and parks and to its detriment a huge university , one of the largest in France .
There are many foreign students resulting in a bustling nightlife , especially at weekends .
Daytimes can be spent visiting many of the Cathedrals including the spectacular abbey des homme and abbey des femme , the ruins of the castle and the cathedral st Pierre .
There is a large race track near by which never seemed to be open during the summer.
Caen has excellent transport links with le tramway , which runs everyday (sporadically on a Sunday) and links most of the suburbs to the city centre
A thoroughly enjoyable “French holiday” that I would recommend for a long weekend break as a week would be too long
