Stayed at the Petra village apartments for 2 weeks in September.
Initial thought about the room was that it was clean, well furbished for studio price that we had paid, and the pool area was lovely and everyone was friendly.
That did not change!
Thanks to Reeta and the guys that work at the village bar they were always friendly and helpful. They often came past shooting us with the water guns but was well needed due to the terrific weather Crete has!
The surrounding area is lovely and the beach at Hersonissos nearby is ok, however would definitely say to visit star beach on the far side of Malia for golden sand and clear water.
There was a group of 6 of us there, all couples, and we had such a laugh and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

My boyfriend and I came home from Crete yesterday! The Petra Village Apartments were the best!
The staff were wicked! We’ve kept in contact! The apartments were clean and tidy and spacious! The local town is nearby with some great restaurants, recommend steki! Delicious!
There is something for all ages here! Very, very good! We had such a great holiday, were already planning our trip back next summer or even later this year! Pigga stow petra!

We had a fabulous honeymoon at Petra apartments. The staff were extremely friendly, the whole place has a lovely atmosphere.
The apartments were very clean and the maid came every day. I cannot think of any age group who wouldn't enjoy it here. The only problem would be for the less mobile as it is very hilly.
Koutouloufari is a lovely village with lots of romantic roof top restaurants and unique tavernas.
Highly recommended we will go back.

The accommodation was spotless and all the staff were great and very good with the children.
Our daughter is diabetic and the holiday company in the UK did not want to help very much with trying to get a welcome food pack but one call to Petra Village and when we arrived at 1.30am the milk, bread etc was all in the room for us and they refused to accept any money for it. All the people we spoke to staying there had only positive things to say about the complex.
The walk into the old village of Koutouloufari is approx 10 mins but to eat out at Emmanuels or Gallini's it is more than worth it. Just look out for the traffic on the walk back! We have already collected the brochure for next year to book for 2 weeks next time!

We have just come back from a week's holiday at Petra Village (mum, dad and daughter aged 11). The apartments were lovely and clean although there were lots of steps (not a problem for us, could be for others). Each block has only 4 apartments, each with their own stairway, so it feels very private - balconies are not attached to other balconies etc. We found our apartment very spacious and the view off the balcony was lovely (although this was not the case for all apartments).
The pool was great, with plenty of free sun beds and umbrellas and a nice sheltered area near the bar for eating and drinking, or simply relaxing. There was no shallow end in the pool which may be a problem for those with older children (or adults) who are not confident swimmers. However, there was a small shallow pool attached for small children. The village and restaurants were fab! a bit of a walk away (10 - 15 min stroll) but worth it for the relaxing atmosphere at the Petra.
The bar was still open every night when we returned from the village, usually about midnight, but was not noisy. Koutouloufari itself was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. The village was full of traditional tavernas. We found the Gallini the best! both for the quality of food and service. They do a children's meal for 4 or 5 euro including a desert). Emmaneualle is very nice and serves specials cooked in a wood fire oven and spit roast meats. Fabrica, an old converted olive oil factory is very pleasant for a drink at night or a gorgeous crepe in the day (the breakfast aren't bad either).
Classico cafe is also very nice for a pre meal drink and has a lovely roof terrace. We found the drinks very expensive in ALL bars (example; 15 euro for a baileys, a milkshake and a beer). Cocktails were approx 6 euros, large beer approx 3.5 euros, soft drinks approx 3 euros. Star beach has the nicest beach (sandy and clean). Hersonissos beach near the harbour was rocky and we saw bottles etc in the sea.
A stroll down to Star Beach takes about 15 mins from the Petra (make sure to cut through the supermarket nr. the bottom of the bank). A walk to Hersonissos centre takes approx 30 - 40 mins from Petra (go to well in village first). Taxi back costs 5 euros (highly recommended - v steep bank). We intend to go back to Koutouloufari and back to Petra Village at same time of year.

Fantastic holiday, this was our 2nd time at these apartments and we are going back next year. Would recommend it to anyone, it has something for everybody. The bar staff are fab and very friendly. The apartments are clean and the pool is too. The food in the villages is great and “Gallini” is 2nd to non!!
There is a Greek night in the 3rd village “Old Hersonissos” which is free, really good entertainment! Go up there for a nice meal and some Greek dancing - which you can join in with! The walk is quite a way so taxi is recommended (if u can get one) If you are going here your guaranteed a great holiday!

Very friendly apartments separated into blocks A-F (F being furthest up the hill and furthest from the pool). We were in C3 and D3. Cleaners were very friendly and entertained baby every time they visited, daily to clean and every other day to change towels etc. The owners supplied us with a cot and high chair which were a godsend.
Weather was not too hot in first week but 2nd week rose to mid 30’s.
Koutouloufari is a five min walk and is very quaint apart from the annoying quad bikes and scooters which are a danger and nuisance to all pedestrians in the narrow streets. I guess they will wait until an accident before enforcing the no motorist’s rule which everybody blatantly ignores.
Favourite restaurant by far was Kalypso (try the swordfish souvlaki) with other contenders of Stekis and Patrikos. Didn’t go on any beaches but walked down the steep hill a few times past Star Beach which seemed full of young people, loud music and plenty of entertainment.
There was also a nice children’s area around the corner. Hired a car and visited Chania (recommended) Elounda, to cross to Spinalonga, Aghios Niclos, Rethymnon and Plains of Lassithi (Dikti cave).
