" The place of Kalo Chorio was quiet... "

The place of Kalo Chorio was quiet with some beautiful breathtaking views.

The Elpida Hotel was a disappointment. The room as advertised on the website of On The Beach Holidays was nowhere near the same as the room we had when we arrived. The website stated that the hotel had gone through a refurbishment in 2001, which we found astounding as the hotel was in desperate need of some TLC.

The food was also disappointing. We did not experience any local dishes and the menu was not very adventurous.

As we were all inclusive, for the first few days we felt we had to stay and eat in the Hotel, but mid week we decided to try the local tavernas and experienced some very tasty dishes.

We also found the local bar, which was called "Commotions" was very warm and friendly and was run by a couple, George and Joan, who between them made everyone from all walks of life, very welcome. The best accommodation you can have is by renting the local apartments, as we found out from previous and existing holiday makers and residents.

We would strongly recommend visiting Kalo Chorio and the surrounding villages and towns, including Agios Nikolaus and the island of Spinalonga.

Crete is a lovely place to visit, with some beautiful historical buildings but the only disappointment was the hotel.

" Set in a lovely location with a few... "

Set in a lovely location with a few shops and tavernas nearby. The views from the pool are amazing and overall we had a good holiday in Crete. However, the Elpida hotel is not a hotel I would choose to revisit.

The "all inclusive" holiday at the Elpida is the worst all inclusive experience I have ever had. The food was ok but very repetitive, outside of mealtimes the only thing available was cheese or ham sandwiches on dry bread (only available between 12-1 and 3-5 pm) you could only have 1 scoop of ice cream per person (between 3-5pm) try telling that to the kids, and drinks were rationed to 1 drink per person per visit to the bar. You have to return your glass to get a refill.

Staff are very hard working and some were nice but on the whole you felt like you hadn’t paid for anything and were asking for freebies when you went to the bar. The dining room had a huge leak in the ceiling right by where the food was served. For the whole of our two week stay we had wet floor and towels to manoeuvre round whilst you got your food.

Electric socket in games room hanging off the wall with live wires exposed. Took me three attempts to get something done about it. The pool was lovely but sometimes cloudy. Four of us crammed into a tiny room.

The beer at the bar went flat by the time you got to your table and don't even think of asking for a large glass they don’t like to give you that much beer in one go. The only spirits you could have were ouzo or raki. Anything else you had to pay for. Defeats the purpose of all inclusive really.

We met many really nice guests during our stay and every one we spoke to was writing a letter of complaint when they got home. Some people had been several times before and apparently it used to be a really good hotel before they went for the all inclusive market. Perhaps they just need to learn to do it properly. Having said that we all really loved Crete and will definitely return, just not to the Elpida hotel.

" A wonderful place to stay set in... "

A wonderful place to stay set in beautiful surroundings. Plenty of shops near by and plenty of space to sunbathe around the pool, either on the stone flooring or the small gardens surrounding.

The poolside restaurant is wonderful with plenty of shading from the sun and a wide range of salads and snacks, Kids club is wonderful with plenty of entertainment for them.

Apartments very clean and cool with plenty of space although there was a bit of a trek to the pool. Plenty of lush gardens surrounding. An overall great holiday.
