Catalonia Gardens Apartments Reviews
" These apartments are an excellent... "
Submitted By: Mr M Foley
These apartments are an excellent choice for families with children and younger people who are with friends.

Before I went to these apartments I read some of the reviews on here and I was absolutely gutted. All of them were saying how dirty the apartments were, how you have to rent your kettles etc, and how the staff are rude. I tell you now absolutely none of this is true. I really can’t understand how people can be so fussy as to complain about the lifts taking a while to come etc.

When we arrived at our apartments we were escorted in by our rep, who explained everything about the apartments and the area to us (even though we’ve been to Salou 3 times before we still like to listen just incase there is new information regarding the resort). The receptionist was very friendly and told us about the safety deposit boxes etc and how they have a 60 Euro deposit on them for 2 weeks.(again how can anybody complain about this, as it keeps your money safe from would be thieves and also you get most of this money back when you check out!)

With regards to the reception area there is always someone stationed there, regardless of the time. We received our keys and went up the lift which astonishingly came in around 20 seconds as oppose to the 10 minutes some people who have written reviews on here complain about. I agree, in the daytime the lifts are pretty hectic but you still get in them eventually. I opted for the stairs. It’s good for you so why complain???

The Bar/Dining area is a well kept area. With 3 pool tables and a few games to play there’s plenty to do down here while enjoying a drink or some of the food, which may I say is very nice here. You are served VERY quickly and always with a smile.

There’s a very spacious pool for adults and the older children and a small baby pool for the younger ones. Both these pools are watched by a very competent lifeguard who is very safety conscious. Not overly conscious, but you know that if you were in trouble he’d help you out straight away. In the daytime, there’s fun and games around the pool. With music, dancing and games for both the children and the adults.(playing the adult games is great, you can win a pint of beer or a bottle of champagne for free) After the games around the pool end a killer pool competition is held which again is great for adults and kids alike. The children are always entertained with kids clubs where they draw and just have a laugh.

At night there’s a quiz in which again the family with the most points wins a bottle of champagne, and also there’s a bingo. When I was staying here the top prize I heard being announced was 140 euros. Not bad when you consider you only pay 2 Euro per ticket! The music downstairs couldn’t be heard at night. Actually there was no music late at night, as it stops around 11 or 12 so people who want to sleep can.

There are 3 blocks to these apartments. The English section (where mostly English. Irish etc reside) and the Dutch block (where as you guessed it mostly Dutch reside.)There’s also another block where a whole mixture of people live. I have had no problems whatsoever with these apartments. They are cleaned regularly, around 3 times a week (they change your sheets, replace toilet rolls and leave a few spares, and leave fresh towels.) Also the apartments are situated in an excellent part of Salou. 2 minutes away is the main shopping street (where you have all the bars and clubs etc) and the beach is a mere 5 minute walk down the little street and a 10 minute walk on the main street.

I would recommend these apartments to anybody. I would definitely return to these apartments in the future. Enjoy your holiday.

" When I arrived at Catalonia gardens... "
Submitted By: Mr N Mc Aree
When I arrived at Catalonia gardens on July 7th we had to take our cases down steps, which was a nightmare!! When we finally got to reception it looked like a dump the floors were dirty and so was the walls.

In the book we were not told about a 60 pound deposit, which had to be paid on arrival. We got checked in and we were in block 2. You had to go down more steps good job you weren’t taking anything breakable because it would have got broken. In block 2 there was crisp packets everywhere and empty tins. We where on the 5th floor and we had to wait about 10 minutes on the lifts. The lifts came and we got in and the lift roof was dirty it looked like vomit.(It was revolting).

When we got into the apartment it was clean but very basic and dated. You had to rent everything kettles toasters saucepans I mean the lot and for 4 days we rented a fan it cost 15 euros. in the complex there was a baby pool it was massive but clean and the big pool was so deep no one was hardly at the deep end.

The bar was so expensive 2 euro 30 for a vodka and coke. Bar area was stinking. Don’t talk to me about the men’s toilet P*** everywhere and the sewage was coming up the sinks. At night there was a nightclub below us so noisy never got to be about 5:00. the best pub was Richards’s tavern serves lovely food and drink.

You would really have to visit Port Aventura theme park the best one ever if you haven’t been to Florida. I really loved Salou I would give that 10/10 but the accommodation was **** and dirty I would advise anybody not to go their. and that was my opinion.
This was to be my mine and my daughters main holiday being a single mum and having paid over £800 for a weeks holiday self catering i feel totally disgusted with these apartments. We were dumped by our rep on the roadside while she went to deal with a couple that had been assaulted.

The guy on reception couldn’t speak English and insisted on filling in paperwork for each family he checked in. We had to pay 60 euros deposit. We no shelves in the oven to cook anything on so had to eat out. One toilet roll provided had to ask at reception for more. We had to put our own rubbish out in bins on street. There were three cleaners in our room one morning but only flushed the toilet never cleaned it.

The toilet seat looked like it had never being cleaned in months. I'm a cleaner and the cleanliness certainly wasn’t up to my standards there were groups of lads throwing bottles over balconies at five in the morning after coming home from the nightclub down the road we complained three times to the rep who couldn’t give a dam about anything he was about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. If you’ve already booked your holiday I’d give the illusion night a miss plenty of beer but **** entertainment.
Submitted By: Miss D Robinson
Salou itself is a lovely place, but these apartments were disgusting. We had already read bad feed back about these and thought people could of been picky.

When we arrived the receptionist just gave us a key and didn’t tell us where to go, when we got in the apartment we found the balcony door didn’t lock at all, the apartment was dirty, we took our 12 month son with us and he was playing with live wires hanging out of the walls.

The cooker hadn’t been cleaned and was stained, the place was a mess, our daughters bed never got changed once in the two weeks, we complained and the receptionists could hardly speak English so didn’t understand, in the brochure it says families welcome, but it was club 18-30 partying all night, people coming and going doing drugs in the corridors. The electric went off for 5 hrs, so all the food in the fridge went off, no apology given, or candles as it was in the evening.

We arrived to bird mess around the children’s pool, and when we left it was still there, the gardens were messy and youths were throwing beer over the balconies. The entertainment was horrendous, if you could call it entertainment.

We had a washing machine but it had no door on it, and in the rim of it, it was full of dirty cig ends. Beds full of stains, holes in the interior doors and rotting, tiles coming up off of floors, The swimming pool was unsafe and dirty, children’s ladders into pool were coming off and then got removed and not replaced.

These apartments are well known in Salou for being the slum, Police raided the apartments and swimming pool at 4 am due to around 20 youths causing mayhem. Beware these apartments are not nice.
Submitted By: Mr A Tennant
This was an absolute hole. The room was filthy when we got there.
Hope you don’t need a hot shower as the hot water lasts about fiver mins if you are lucky.
You have to take your rubbish out the room and put it in the bins on the main street.
You have to hire everything for the room, e.g. kettle, fan, toaster.
Maids are hardly ever in room.
You can’t take anything into the main pool even though its large.
They even ask for a 60 euro deposit that you don’t get told about until you are there.
This was the first time I had been to Salou and I won’t be hurrying back.

Having read all reviews we {a party of 13 on a stag weekend }were prepared for the worst telling ourselves on the coach that it didn’t matter and that it was only a place to sleep for two nights.

However, when we arrived it didn’t look that bad infact a couple of the guys reckoned they had paid a lot more in the past and had stayed in a lot worse.

Pool area was nice however lifeguard is a complete jobs worth, he told us not to take a ball into the empty large pool but to go into the children’s pool where there were small kids and play in there with the ball???

This is perhaps not the best place to stay if you are on a family holiday but as a base for 13 guys it was ok, close to all restaurants and bars and perhaps a 15 min walk into the centre, the entertainment in the complex is a bit dire but Laurie and Mary Jane do their best but were on a hiding to nothing with action man and his mates.

All in all a great time was had all be it was over far to quick.

" I had previously been to Salou three... "
Submitted By: Miss K Davies
I had previously been to Salou three times before I had stayed in this dump and I was so shocked! The three hotels I had previously stayed in were beautiful and I had a brilliant time! If you have ever visited a place like Salou you will know they have brilliant bars, restaurants, some thing for everyone but I didn’t ever think there would be a squat of a place like that there!
The rooms were filthy dirty, we had to keep dirty towels for days using them over and over again as maids cleaning our rooms were very rare. We didn’t even have a toaster or kettle! Some friends were staying in a nearby hotel so we ended up taking their toaster!
We also learned that they were also a block of flats as the people living next door we the black men and women that sell dodgy gear and braid hair! Who kept looking onto our balcony asking us if we wanted a smoke!
The doors also don’t lock properly as one night as I was asleep on the uncomfortable sofa bed and the front door opened. I thought it was someone trying to break in! And to be frank I wouldn’t be surprised!
As I was with my family at night we went out to the fantastic bars and restaurants we normally stayed out to late hours because of the music and disco going into the early hours! The reps were brilliant during the day but didn’t half go on at night repeating the same thing over and over again every night!
I suggest if your going to visit Salou you stay in one of the brilliant hotels such as “The Golden Avenida or The Port Salou” these hotels are God Sents!!

I would never go back here again it is a total dump. I spent 2 weeks there and I was really glad to arrive back home.

They say it is a nice area it isn’t. The rooms cannot hold 5 people it is more like 1, the separate bedroom is a partitioned area with sliding doors and what looks like a serving hatch. The tiles on the floor are cracked they don’t change your beds very often the room I was in is supposed to hold 5 there was 3 adults in there and it was very very small yet people had a huge room for 2 people staying.

I think it is pretty bad as there is no air conditioning and if you want air conditioning. you will have to hire a fan and all so you have to hire TVs, kettles, toasters everything and for the bathroom, you have to supply your own toilet paper.

If you are ever going to Salou, do not stay here!!!!

" On arrival the coach driver dumped us... "
Submitted By: Mrs M Wilce
On arrival the coach driver dumped us two hundred yards away from apartments without the help of a rep. The hotel staff consisted of 1, so it took ages to get key.
The lifts were temperamental and rubbish was strewn everywhere. The patio doors on apartments only lock with a hook! You are only allowed 40 litres of hot water per apartment per day for showers etc, and only one loo roll per holiday. There is no air con or fans available, and you have to supply your own kettle, mugs and tea towels.
You also have the privilege of leaving a deposit of 60 euros so you can clean your own apartment! The maid came twice to change the towels and that was it. Most rooms are above bars which do not close until 5am, so if its noise you want its noise you will get!
I would certainly not recommend these apartments unless you are a party animal, as the place seemed to be let out to youths and people who believe in partying all day and all night.
So, sorry folks if you have already booked your nightmare holiday, because if I were you I would ask for your money back as it is the worst place I have been to in nearly 20 years of travel!

" This complex should not be on offer.... "
Submitted By: Mr I Checkley
This complex should not be on offer. This is the worst complex I have ever stayed in. The apartments are situated in a dirty noisy part of Salou. The streets don’t seem to be ever cleaned and you can see hypodermic needles and broken glass as a norm.
The standard of fittings in the apartment itself is like something from the 1970's. The condition of the apartment was dirty, worn and just not acceptable in 2004. I would advise you to give this a wide berth.
Not family or children friendly and way too expensive for what you get. Do not go there!! You have been warned.
The apartment was clean, spacious and very comfortable. We had the maids in numerous times in the first week and again numerous times in the second week of our holiday.

The Pool was absolutely huge and very clean. The lifeguard was very thorough (perhaps a little too thorough, but at the end of the day this is his job and if you had an accident it would be his fault, so you cannot blame him for this.) The staff I found very friendly and helpful, always happy to help.

The bar area was also a great area in these apartments. The food served here really was top quality, as you’ll find out when you arrive. At times there was noise in the bars surrounding the apartments, but not overly loud. But really what can you expect in a holiday resort?? If you want peace and quiet go away with Saga holidays designed for the elderly!

Overall I will say in total honesty this was a fantastic apartment! I’ve stayed in Salou twice before and this I can say was probably the best apartments I have come across. I think some people expect far too much for what they pay. I would certainly return to these apartments again in future.
