" Dont go to these apartments they are... "

Dont go to these apartments they are absolutley disgusting, we booked through or local travel agent and where told they where great with poolside bar / resturant and entertainment at night oh so wrong.

The corridors are dark and dingy the lifts stink of urine, the pool needs a good clean, for the whole week we never seen a maid and got no clean towels or sheets.

The first apartment we got was filthy and short of a bed. The crockery, cutlery, pots and pans where all filthy. The bathroom i would'nt even let my dog crap in. The furniture and curtains looked like they had been there since the place opened in '92 and the majority of it was falling to pieces (pictures available). So down to reception and we had another room within 5 minutes. This one was slightly better once we had cleaned everything at least we had the fourth bed.

No kettle, toaster, tv or air condition so we had to leave one of the doors open at night, but because the yobs that where there were climbing between balconies had to sleep next to it. They will let you hire a kettle/toaster but you could by new ones for less than the rental price.

The pool area is only open between 10am and 8pm then everthing is locked up, the "poolside bar" does'nt open till 3pm thats if the staff turn up and your not allowed to take any drinks to the pool area, the resturant is non existent as is the nightly entairtainment and if there are no more than 6 people in the bar at ten they just shut it. (one good thing they did have a lifeguard at the pool).

Dont get me wrong Salou is brilliant for a holiday thrid time we have been, with the theme park and water park, we ate out everynight and every resturant was really good, and we also found other apartments that had excellent poolside entairtainment at night.

Go to Salou you will enjoy it but just dont stay at the Catalonia Gardens, these apartments should be taken out off all the travel brochres they dont make for a good holiday.

" Please please please avoid the... "

Please please please avoid the Catalonyia garden apartments like the plague. I booked two rooms for myself and my four children for a week this summer and having been in Salou twice before was really looking forward to a great holiday however the Catalonyia Gardens soon destroyed any hopes of us having even a good time. When you first arrive you're greeted by the sight of of four huge rubbish skips that are permanently on the street and because of the heat stank to high heaven, you then descend down below ground level to the "reception" area were you are charged €100 deposit, you then proceed to the smallest couple of graffiti covered lifts that wouldn't look out of place in any ghetto. On second thoughts we decided to walk up to r rooms on the second floor and true to form the stairs were filthy and the corridors dark and narrow. When we got to our rooms one of the keys didn't fit properly and my wife who was sharing with the girls couldn't get the door open. When we finally got in our rooms were the most basic i've ever stayed in with no air conditioning, no extractor fan in the bathroom and rickety furniture. Worse was still to come as we looked over our balcony to see a filthy rubbish strewn terrace below us. We decided to try out the pool area but only to be disappointed again. The white plastic sunbeds were covered with dirty black feet marks and i mean every sunbed and obviously hadn't been hosed down ever. As the children played in the kids pool my wife and i sat at the pools edge but when we got up we were horrified to discover that we were covered with flakes of green paint, on closer inspection we discovered that the non slip paint around the kids pool was flaking and was sticking to everything. At night it got even worse the walls in the complex were paper thin and you could hear every noise and in the early hours we were constantly wakened by the sound of breaking bottles and cans being thrown over the balconies. after four days without seeing a cleaner we asked at reception when our rooms were to be cleaned only to be told that they were only cleaned once a week when we asked which day they couldn't tell us but for the whole week our rooms weren't cleaned, we had no clean linen or towels and not even toilet rolls.
If i sound like a bit of a whinge i'm sorry but i'm not, i'm a very well travelled person and i've done most things in most countries and this is the first time that i've EVER felt the need to complain on any internet site.

" After reading previous reviews I was... "

After reading previous reviews I was a little worried. However the apartments were clean, the entertainment great and my two kids loved the hotel and Salou as a whole.
It isn't 5 star luxury but is well kept by friendly staff and close to all Salou has to offer. A really enjoyable holiday.

"  THIS PLACE MUST BE DELISTED... "

THIS PLACE MUST BE DELISTED NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! how can any person say this place is good!!!!!!! your mad in the head. i am a full time lorry driver who spends an aveage 3 nights a week sleeping in my cab with basic facilities to live and clean on!! my point>>> its 10star luxury compared to this hellpit!!!!!!!! i only booked my hol 1wk b4 departure so i was limited to accommodation facilities. i didnt own a computer to review this place so i went blind not knowing what to expect.... now b4 anyone ridicules me for this report just hear me out.... i have been on holidays every year since i was 20 with my mates. i am now 34 ive been to majorca, ibiza, tenirife etc etc!!! and have stayed in bad places, somewhere to get the head down for a few hrs during the day and everyones been 100% better than this place... my wife who has a fear of flying has never been away and neither has my 2 children, ( 6 and 8 ) so i thought salou would be perfect for my family, and it was! bar the hell,sh*t,stench hole we stayed in. i dont begrudge young men having a good time and enjoying themselves but there needs to be a line drew to how far it goes!!!!! on arrival we had to get down 8 steep steps with my 6yr old who has walking difficulties, we where givin our key to our 5th floor room and hastly headed for the lifts. we had to wait approx 10 mins for the lift to come and it was only later on during the stay i realised why ( people where wedging the door open on there own floors so no one else could use lifts) i had to go upstairs every day to release the doors so my daughter could use the lifts.. the lift we got into was covered in mess and graffiti. i just looked at my wife and gulped. i did ask for a move but there was no spare rooms (bo***x) any way i could go on but read any other bad review on this place and i vouch for any one of them. a few things i will say is even tho the pool is quite good with a lifeguard, please please please dont take your eyes of your kids in the small pool!!!! the lifeguard stays up at the big pool checking out all the young females all day long. i swear on this. a young girl near drowned in the small pool and its so lucky i was there to rescue her!! the childs mother who cannot swim herself was defenceless... all i heard was her screaming, so first reaction for me was to look at the mother who was running towards the pool then stopped at poolside, i was a good 100yards away, (lifeguard was 20 yards away and blind to the wee pool) i dropped all and lunged into pool to save the child who was really struggling in water thats up to my waist (im 5"10) thankfully the child had only swallowed a small amount water, secondly the fashion for 08 is these megaphones that can be easily bought around the town with there high pitched noises thats built into them, they where bein used to communicate with each other from across the appartment blocks all night every night... surely security (if there was any) could put a stop to this but no. we where all young once and enjoyed ourselves!!! but this was down right ridiculous, rude behavior with no thought to any one....... i must stress if you have kids DO NOT GO TO THIS DUNGEON!!!!! if your 18 want to sleep all day, party all night, boak against other peoples doors, live in dog mess climb stairs when lifts dont work, and basicly just want to live in beiruit style accommodation and not scared of being broke into then this place is perfect for you!!!!!!! good luck

" The only thing in the hotel that was... "

The only thing in the hotel that was the pool.
if they spent as much time cleaning the pool rather than doing the rooms then they would have a decent hotel.

no toilet rolls replaced, the towels weren't changed during our stay and the room normally gets cleaned in the hotel when u go on holiday but this one was none existent.

u simply get what u pay for which wasn't much at all. u couldn't swing a cat in the room the beds were crap.

AVOID THIS HOTEL...................

" This Hotel is not as bad as people... "

This Hotel is not as bad as people make it out to be, we were as nervous after reading all the negative reviews, people saying that rooms get broken into,to be quite honest you get what you pay for. we paid extra to get fresh towels every day but they didnt arrive. we had to pinch some from the maids trolly. we had to buy our own toilet roll as the stuff supplied was like tracing paper. if you want a warm shower its best to have one about 8am otherwise the water isnt warm again until lunch time.
the location of the hotel is ok if you dont mind a 5/10 min walk to the centre.
the bars are great fun. check out uncle sams for a nice meal and christys irish pub for a good old laugh.

ENJOY>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

" my family stayed here for a week. it... "

my family stayed here for a week. it was dreadful. it was dirty and dark. we never saw a maid all week or had any clean towels. on arrival we were dumped on the main road at 2.00 am by a very ignorant coach driver who just pointed up the road and left. we then walked the streets for approximated 15 minutes trying to find the place. we had to ask in another hotel for directions. when we checked in we were asked for 100 euro deposit, given the key and not even told which floor we were on. when we found the room at approx. 2.20am it was a bare shell.
we then asked at reception for a kettle the guy said no no comeback tommorow. so at this point when went to try find some place to eat. the next morning we woke approx 7.30am to the bin men in nearby streets collecting rubbish. we than asked for a kettle again and were told to hire one would be 12 euro! so we went out to buy one at 9 euro!!! the day just got worse the pool was empty and the staff werent helpful at all. we found out of another guest we would have to use the pool across the road which was always busy.
to be quite honest we did not anyone say anything good about the hotel, we had a problem with the door handle in the apartment it fell off! this ment we could not lock the door from the inside and when we were in we had to leave the door unlocked. this also made the room very unsafe and we had a man walk in one night. we reported it reception on numerous occasions and was evenutally fixed four day later on the day we left. we found the staff very unhelpful and they spoke very little english.
salou on the whole is a dirty place with open top bins every place you look and nobody seems to get dog dirt up in the streets. it is very noisey at night and by day.
please if you go take some medication for a bad stomach as we are still suffering now as the whole area must be infested with germs from the bins right outside the hotel

" please do not go here! was the worst... "

please do not go here! was the worst disgusting hell hole ever stayed in.

our coach driver dropped us off out side we had no idea we had to go to the hotel to book in, they were very unfriendly - so our holiday was ruined straight away, when we got to the room we asked to be changed we had a 2yr old and wanted a lower ground floor - well the room was horrible and the locks didnt even lock the doors or the windows. we did not feel safe with all strange kind off people wandering about apparently alot of the locals live here as well. apart from the good weather i would have gone home straight away - we did complain to rep but they are willing to do nothing - but did complain when we got home - letter after letter but if carry on sending them do you get some answers. we did.
happy reading.

" This Hotel is not as bad as people... "

This Hotel is not as bad as people make it out to be, we were as nervous after reading all the negative reviews, people saying that rooms get broken into, yes we did hear this as we were over but apparantly it only happens on the first floor which on inspection is so easy to climb on roof, but i cant see people climbing up the balconys upto the other floors unless they want to kill themselves.

the only bit of grafitti we saw was in the lifts, the staff are helpful and pleasant.
When arriving we were told about the 100 euro deposit yes you do have to pay it, but you do get it back at the end of your stay, we were on the 5th floor and yes the corridors were dark but look to the left when you come out of the lifts and there is a light switch to switch on the corridor lights. There is a lovely place to eat with entertainment in the evenings next to the hotel called sinatras, then across the road more pubs and just down the bottom of the hill you will find victorias, where there is bingo and karaoke every night till 4 am also various bands etc,

So overall yes this holiday was very cheap for us etc but please do not listen to the negative reviews you get what you pay for, if you want kettles toasters etc then you can hire these from the reception

" We arrived quite late, around 22:30... "

We arrived quite late, around 22:30 and were not very impressed with the external appearance of the building compared to the other hotels surrounding Catalonia Gardens.

The nightlife seemed quiet and our party was rather disappointed - we went for a quiet drink then back to the apartment.

We were pleased with the apartment, it was a great space and very clean.

The next day we looked around the poolside and it was lovely. There wasn't music blasting as said in previous reviews. The games room was of a large size and internet access was great.

The nightlife was fantastic; I especially recommend Sinatra’s and Blue Bahia.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday with the apartments exactly how we expected them to be for the price we paid.

I would definitely go back again and this time stay for two weeks instead of one, I recommend this to not just anyone, but EVERYONE!

" We went to Catalonia Gardens for a... "

We went to Catalonia Gardens for a weekend and I am glad we only went for 2 days.

The apartment block was full of graffiti. The hallways were dark and very scary especially at night. In the apartment there was no kettle, no toaster, there was burn marks up the wall where the plug points were, the toilet seat was hanging off, the mirror in the bathroom was broken. The door on the wardrobe was missing.

The apartment was not a nice environment to be in and I am glad I didn’t take the children as I would have left straight away. We were supposed to have had clean towels on the Monday but we never got any but as we were only there for 2 days we put up with it, but if you are going for a week or taking children I would advise you really look into the place.

" This holiday apartment resembles... "

This holiday apartment resembles Beirut and I’m not joking! Was hoping these reviews were over the top as only saw them the day before we went.

Here’s the list of gripes: no signs, no reception, no pool, padlocked shut and filthy. Hall ways dark dingy, urine in lift, no cutlery (well 1 each, knife, fork, spoon), no kettle, leaking boiler, ceiling hanging down in kitchen, furniture falling apart. Dogs mess around all outside areas, couldn’t find anyone when we got there and was told by a tenant where to check in.

Rented apartments with dogs? Rubbish bins outside balcony
A complete dump and if it wasn’t for First Choice getting us moved we would have come home.

All agents who sell this holiday should be ashamed of themselves. Couldn’t select - 10 so settled for 1

" Well me and my partner have just got... "

Well me and my partner have just got back (Friday) from Salou. After being dropped off by the transfer we were told to check in at International II across the road which after reading comments on here I knew would happen! Also asked for a £100 deposit which I knew would happen. My boyfriend said to the lady "so I have to give you my HOLIDAY money and you will give me it back at the END of my holiday??" she didn't get the sarcasm but just responded "yes" anyway we ended up giving her £70 and she had to like it or lump it. So off we went to Catalonia across the road.

First of all crossing the road full of waste all over the street the smell is vile and graffiti everywhere; it looks like a section of the Bronx brought to Salou! Anyway you trundle down some steps and walk in to what used to be their reception. There is no one around apart from people who live in the abandoned apartments on the top floor, lights are flickering and graffiti is still present. You start at this point to feel unsafe as anyone can walk in this place there is no security, no maids, nothing.

We found our room that had a used tampon in the bathroom and was dirty all over with a balcony that led to the street that I have just mentioned so anyone is free to walk in to your apartment also. I'm not joking when I say no one is around as in staff there really is no one. Anyway we decide we are not spending a week there and head back to international we explain in what I told her was "vile" and she says "I give you top floor you will like" so we head back to Catalonia.

When she said top floor she wasn't joking we had to head on to the roof past the generators to what seemed like the maids quarters, the lock on the door was bust so free for all again and it was just as vile up there. Anyway we headed back through the pitch black hotel to International and said "no" this time, she said "would you like to stay here" we jumped at it and said yes as this place was lovely she gave us two keys to check out two of their rooms as I could tell she had also had enough and we had a good holiday from then on!

Don't get me wrong I don't moan for the sake of moaning the year before I went to Ibiza and stayed in a hotel that wasn't up to scratch but it was still nice enough and I enjoyed it but this was beyond a joke and would ruin our holiday! While we were at reception we heard a family saying "we have stayed at Catalonia before" who on earth would stay there twice!!!!

Anyway for those trying to find a cheap holiday do not pick this hotel yes its cheap but that is what you will get, your luggage won't be safe while you are out in the day and you will be sleeping in dirt, pay that little extra and stay somewhere else! x

" In terms of room size and location... "

In terms of room size and location there can be no real complaints. Short distance from the beach, fountains, pubs and restaurants, however so is everywhere in Salou due to it being such a built up resort.

Well the Catalonia apartments are basically in need of a lot of TLC. Very little maintenance, a quick sweep and clean but the pool is huge. No poolside music etc, but there is a bar.

Therefore spent most of time next door in the International.

Booked it cheap, last minute for a week away with my girlfriend. So can’t complain as they say you get what you pay for. At least there is full use of the International so if you get it cheap it’s worth it.

Tip. Not really a good transport link from Reus Airport and taxi fare around 30euro each way so arrange coach transfer.
