All i can say is, i think most of the people who have given poor reviews must have had very high expectations! i thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and am returning again to salou this year, admittedly not in this hotel as we found an offer that was cheaper however would not... more

Don't listen to these bad reviews!!!!!!
My partner and our two kids aged 3 and 1 stayed at the apartments for 1 week at the start of august. Once we had booked the holiday we discovered these terrible reviews and did'nt want to go, but we decided to go anyway. I am so glad we did. The room we got was very very clean and spacious, sure its not the hilton but on the whole it was really very good. The hotel staff were all pleasant and very helpful. The entertainment was great for my 3 year old and the entertainers themselfs were excellant. Salou on the whole is a great place for families, you will never run out of things to do. I can only come to the conclusion that the bad reviews this place gets must just be down to people being the complaining type. Please, please, please try these apartments out, I'm sure you will enjoy your stay!!
Cheap clean near the centre of things overall a good spot...
Well some of these reviews shock me.. I went to Salou in Sep 05, it cost me 1,200 euros for a family of five, for TWO WEEKS. I knew that there were no air con in the apts, but there were clean and tidy with maids coming every second day and did a fab job, even doin my washing up some days, staff were great so friendly and all my kids knew them by name when we were leaving they had entertainment every nite maybe one or two nites it wasnt great but overall it was good the apts were so near the centre of things it was great just stepping out and having lots to do. i went to alcudia this year july, and by far Salou was better so much that I am going again in 2007 so if anyone that has a good word to say about Salou and knows of any nice basic cheap apts on the main strip with air con (as we will need it in the hotter months as Sep wasnt too hot) let me know. i would recommed Salou to anyone i loved it and as for the gardens as they are called you got what you paid for BASIC AND CLEAN..NEAR THE NIGHTLIFE, CHEAP and you have to expect to hear noise in these areas. looking forward to a few ideas for 07. thanks
"Not as bad as i thought..." family of 4 ,Dublin
We stayed in The Catalonia Gardens for 1 week from the 19th July. I had read all the reviews & was dreading telling the "other half" so i decided to say nothing & waited till we got there to see what it was like. First impressions were fine. we were even asked did we want first floor apartment because we have a 2 yr old. Making our way to our room i noticed everything i had read on the reviews - wires hanging of the walls & dirt & food allover the staircase. Our room was huge & the balcony was massive.it was clean but there were a few sockets hanging of the wall which would of taken 5mins to fix!!! our apartment looked over the little play area & pool but we had huge trees in front of us which i think every bird in Salou sat on & then did a [----] on our balcony. The lads next door to us were spainish & lived there.nice friendly lads & would talk to the kids but at night time they liked to party..on their balcony!! & because of the heat you had to keep the balcony doors open but the noise was unreal - even worse when they had girls round, but i did ask them to keep it down & they were fine about it. We use to be woken at 5am every morning by a crowd of spainish coming home from work or a night out & they use to sit in the kiddies play area making as much noise as possible & then they would jump into the pool ?!! they were never asked to get out - i wonder if i had let my kids jump into the pool at 5am would they off got into trouble? Above all i enjoyed my holiday in Salou the parks were fantastic, dont think i would return to The Catalonia Gardens though.Watch out for the 2 dodgy looking guys who always hang around outside the reception area - every night they were there. one more thing - if you smoke please dont throw your butts over your balcony, everyone above us seemed to do that & because we were on the 1st floor our balcony jutted out more than the rest & all the butts would land on ours & unfortunately my 2 yr old picked one up & ended up with a 2nd degree burn on his finger !! honestly - we had him at the doctor 3 times when we got home.he was given 2 loads of antibods.& creams & powder.only now it is starting to heal & thats over 3 weeks ago!
Whats wrong with people
We booked our holiday 6 months ago. there was 12 of us 6 adults and 6 children ranging from 10 to 2. Before we went we had been reading the reviews and thought what have we booked. But we thought worst thing that could happen we would have to move. When we arrived at 11 am in the morning we were able to check straight in. this was great as we did not expect to until 2pm. we went to the rooms and they werwe basic but nothing different to any other self catering appartments we have stayed in before. We had a pool view and it all seemed very nice. The enterainment day and night was ok the staff tried really hard to get people involved. The pool was clean we watched the man clean it every morning. The noise at night was no different then other streets when your on holiday. We had a great time here and suggest that all you people who have problems with this hotel want to get a life and let your hair down abit. at the end of the day you only need the room to sleep in. don't pay cheep and expect top quality. We would all go to this apartments again and recommend it.
Perfect for clubbers
I was going to Salou with my family, I booked at last minute and so ended up in the Catalonia Gardens as opposed to the hotel the rest of my family had. I had a whale of a time, the hotel was a great base, the bar staff v.friendly, the night watch man makes you feel secure and the noise from the street doesn't really affect you. There is family entertainment but i went out most nights. I went inlow season but still found plenty to do and the Catalonia Gardens was a great base from which to explore the main bar strip, which starts two minutes down the road, and the beach which is about 10 minutes away. I found the rooms comfortable if basic and although the pool looked bad when we first arrived we didnt have any problems after this. They try hard with afternoon entertainment although sometimes it was lacklustre and the lifeguard seemed overly strict although i suppose he was doing his job. Whilst I wouldn't recommend it for familys, as a partying student I found it absolutely ideal and would go again in a hertbeat!
ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!
The Catalonia Gardens is by far the worst place we stayed in….ever!! We booked our holiday last minute and our apartment was allocated on arrival and unfortunately we were put in this sh*t hole!!! As the early post said when we walked into the apartment we wanted to either move apartments altogether or go home! We asked to be moved however our "Rep" told us everywhere was full and we'd have to pay huge amount to get anywhere else! No air conditioning at all in the rooms, which were filthy. You could hire a very small fan from reception, which basically just blew hot air. It was impossible to sleep at night with the heat and the constant noise. We also took photos of our room (to send to our travel agent), sofa was absolutely filthy and stank, sheets were stained on the beds, plugs falling off walls, no air con; you even had to buy your own toilet paper!!! We paid Euro 1,200.00 for this holiday.... utterly disgraceful. So I can honestly tell anyone who is thinking of booking here don't!! The only good side to our trip to Salou was the 2 day trips we made to Barcelona.... would recommend this (Anything to get you away from these disgusting apartments) :-)
s*** hole
Catalonia gardens is a [---] hole me and my 3 mates went on the 12th july and when we walked into the apartment we wanted to either move apartments altogether or go home. The kitchen smelt of swers.there was wires hanging out of walls. The lifts where stuck with someone in them when we arrived the lights didnt work through up the stairs. people lived in the apartments and one person had his cannibus plant in a bucket on the balcony.mine and girlfriends matress was to small for are bed.the room wasent being cleaned probably your feet where black with in the hour.there was 20 break ins on block b that was my block and that was in 1 week complaints where made but they didnt seem to care.there was also in lights through the whole outside of the blocks. catalonia gardens is a waste of money and me and mates hated and now trying to get somthing done about it. .
Glad To Be Gone
the coach driver cudnt even find the place.. it was in the middle of darkness and trees!..1st impression not good, had to carry our bags up to our room as there was a man stuck in the lift screaming. on the way up wee saw dirt and electrical wires hanging out of the wall were the fire alarm should have been. there was 20 break in's in our block during one week. we reported this to reception who didnt even seem bothered, they actually seemed surprised that we were complaining. the staff were nice and friendly and the pool entertainment was good but i just couldnt wait to get home away from that room, it was like sleeping in a cooker,IMPOSSIBLE! no air-conditioning. no security and the gates were open to the public. men standing outside the open apartment block doors at all hours of the morning. we took photos of the shower hanging off the wall and the dirty broken tiles on the floor.
great hols
we booked these apartments before we looked at the reviews but when we got there we found everything was ok our top floor twin bedroom room was clean adaquate space for two adults and two kids aged 9 and 6. the bathroom was clean with no black bits no bugs at all it was great the living room was functional as it had the kitchen with it, cooker was a bit tatty but was clean we never used it anyway we had to hire a toaster (11 euros) well so what wasnt dear since we like our toast in the morning, the lifts worked great but you went into a dark corridor to get to your room but once we found out where the switches were it was ok, they were putting up fire doors in all the corridors when we were there, the pool was clean but the surroundings were a bit tatty but that was ok with us cos we wnt to the beach every day which was 5 mins walk from our room, the staff were always helpfull and politethe beds were clean and comfortable and we had the maids in 2 or 3 times in the week with sheets and towels we had a great holiday and would go back
Basic, Clean Apartment But Great Base For Holiday
I have just returned from eight days at Catalonia Gardens staying with my husband and 14 year old and have no complaints about the apartment at all. We staying in block three on fifth floor and the apartment was clean and well stocked with cutlery, dishes, etc. Maid came three times during our stay to change sheets and provide clean towels. After reading some of the reviews before we left I was dreading what I was going to find but was pleasantly surprised. There was no air conditioning but we knew that before we left. I would recommend these apartments for families with young kids as entertainment was not really for teenagers but there are plenty of other places around about to keep them happy. This is my third time in the Salou area and would not hesitate to stay here again and this was certainly no worse than any other apartments we have been to. Great base for a great area.
