I have been to the barras apartments for a total of 11 times and it is at an awesome location with a great bakery over the road (which smells like heaven in the mornings). also there is a shop next to the bakery which is handy. it is also very quiet and peaceful. it is very clean, great customer service, good food, nice bar, what more can i say. 10++++

" We go to San Stefanos every year now... "
Submitted By: Mr Tony Cox
We go to San Stefanos every year now (25 years) as a main or second holiday. This is the first time we stayed at the Barras Apts and although they are older apartments they are as good as anywhere else and in a prime location. Sometimes a little noisy late at night from the bar opposite, but never a problem. George runs the place and has an excellent restaurant as a good option to dine in. Try his specials!! The staff are good and helpful there.
We were pleased with the experience and have stayed in most of the apartments and hotels in the resort over the years. The Barras compares very well and has a nice feel good welcoming factor.
They have internet and big screen TVs and will try to play what the guests want. The restaurant hosts the usual Greek Night with costumed dancers - very good if you've never seen one. Our friends stayed in the Little Prince Apts, again very nice but not really better - just newer and much more expensive. Try the Barras - fairly basic as all Greek Apts are, but great value and great food in the restaurant. Pool is small but not crowded.
I would book again. I always tend to try for the best value for reasonable apartments and you won't be disappointed - try George - he will look after you.
Restaurants in San Stefanos are all very good - also you must try a meal in the Olive Press (fantastic meals) and the new Bistro that's just opened up opposite the Nafsika Hotel. I also loved the Olympia and Sunset Restaurants (good live music on Sats) as well - great food in both. We loved Two Stars Restaurant as well for different great breakfasts and best value good food.
Once again though, try the Barras - the only problem we ever had was cold showers one night - I told George and he re-set the trip switch which had popped out and hot water again! Enjoy - we will see George again in 2008 to stay or to eat - we will be back - Tony & Linda

" Nice, clean family run hotel. Bring... "
Submitted By: Miss M Mc Master
Nice, clean family run hotel. Bring some toilet roll though. Right next to the Thomas Bay Hotel which gives you a choice of differing entertainment.
Traditional Greek music and dancing in Barras, Thomas Bay gives Greek dancing and a game of bingo or quiz night.
Always fun.
Other bars and restaurants nearby. A sandy beach which is good unlike the other resorts which are mostly pebbles.
The only downside to the resort as is with all the islands,
the old toilet system built by the British in the war years.
They still have open sewers.
The bus to other parts of the island is interesting. Amazing how the drivers get round those tight roads.
Hire a car to explore the island but be careful on the road if wet. They can become slippery.
I found all the islanders to be very friendly and if you lost something like a piece of jewellery, a wallet, purse, whatever. It was found and returned. I even left prescription sunglasses on a small bay when on a boat trip. The captains assistant went and got them next day and handed them to me on another boat journey he knew we would be taking. Had I not been going on the boat again, he would have delivered them to the hotel.
So if you lose something, they will do all they can to find and return it.
Suitable for young families and couples. Day trips recommended to Sidari or Corfu Town.

The location of the Barras Apartments is fantastic. Right in the centre of town with the beach a 10 minute walk away. The apartments are on one of the main roads in San Stefanos, but there was a very low volume of traffic that it did not really bother us that much. We requested the air conditioning unit for our 10 day break we had, so that may have cancelled out what little noise there was outside (a bargain at 5 Euros a day).
The apartment, communal area and swimming pool were always spotless and I could not fault the cleanliness of the place. The swimming pool was never busy. You certainly get what you pay for here. The apartments are basic but that is all you have paid for so do not expect any luxuries here. The restaurant attached does serve excellent freshly prepared food.
The bakery opposite smelt more enticing than what it actually had to offer so we went to the Condor for breakfast each day instead – excellent value for money. The supermarket opposite was not as well stocked as the Aspa supermarket a bit further down from the Barras Apartments. The owners were very friendly and stocked everything (even a hair dryer at 12 Euros, which came in very handy).
Restaurants in San Stefanos are all good, although we were very disappointed with the Olive Press. We only went there once but the service was poor and my husband had the worst steak he has ever had in his life and it was the most expensive meal we had over our 10 day stay. The Beachcomber Bistro on the other hand was the best restaurant we tried. The service was excellent and they had a fantastic alternative to the traditional Greek food menu (try the mussels that they serve each day) and it is a very romantic place to watch the sunset. The Zorba restaurant is the busiest restaurant in town and serves huge portions of traditional Greek food with traditional dancing each night.
Advice: If you love peace and quiet, San Stefanos is the resort for you.
Activities: Don't miss The Beachcomber Bistro restaurant for a fantastic sunset.
Good for: Beach
