After reading reviews about noise in this hotel we emailed and asked for a quite room. We had a room on the 5th (top) in Calypso 2 overlooking the road. The room was basic but clean. The maids were always pleasant, and we were even given a bottle of champagne in our room. Calypos 2 is run down and not as nice as Calypos 1. But this has been the quitest room we have ever stayed in. 10/10
The food was O.K, there was always something you could eat, so you would'nt starve. I've had much better. The deserts were much nicer. 7/10
There was entertainment every day and evening. We watched a few of the shows. But got put off by the compare shouting everything in 6 different languages. The hotel was full of different nationalitys from Polish,Russian,French,German and Dutch to name a few.
Our son who's 13 usually makes lots of friends on holiday but this year, sadly there were none, due to not being able to communicate with the other kids. We also noticed there were a lot of groups of foreign 18 to 25 year olds. 2/10
All the staff we spoke to where pleasent, from resurant staff to desk staff (some with little english) 9/10
We used the local buses to Port aventura 1.75e (The train bus 3.00e) and even went on a Barcalona day trip 24.90e with them (book at the little red hut) much cheaper than with Thompson or the hotel. Just come out the hotel, turn left walk down to the main srtip, 5 mins and the red hut is on your left. Very helpful staff, they'll tell you how to get anywhere. The hotel is in a good location, 10-15 mins walk to 3 different beaches. 5 mins to shops/main strip and bus stops. 1 min to train/bus across the road. 30 mins walk to port aventura. 5 mins walk medical center and chemist.5 mins to laundarett. 9/10
If your going to Port aventura buy your tickets on line first, much, much cheaper than in resort. Sunday 2-7.30 is the best time to go we did'nt Q at all and went on nearly all the rides twice!! 10/10
We also booked our tranfers with holiday taxies.com, great service.10/10
We had an enjoyable holiday, but I would not return to hotel Calypso unless we could speak fluent spanish!! Overall 7/10

We have recently returned from our holiday in Hotel Calyspo in Salou, with our children aged 11 and 5.On arrival we were told we were staying in Calyspo 2. As we entered the hall we were greeted with the most awful purple carpet and yellow, purple and orange walls and even though we saw the carpet being hoovered it looked dirty and worn out. There was graffiti on the doors and though Oh my god! The room was quite small and basic the walls in the room are paper thin as you can hear everything from next door and the patio doors sound like they are open when they are shut, you can hear all the noise from outside and at the back of the hotel is a night club and the music and noise from the people coming home from the club goes on till around five o'clock in the morning. As I am a light sleeper I did not get much sleep and also with our noisy french neighbours.
I would not recommend this hotel.Salou itself is really busy and you are being constantly mithered to go into the bars/restaurants as you walk past!
The food in the hotel was not good,it was ok if you like chips! as that is all we ate.
It was cold by the time you got to eat it. Some mornings you had to queue to get into the restaurant. The breakfast was ok, but you had to make your own toast and there was sometimes a queue for the toaster!
We will not be returning to Hotel Calypso or Salou!

being a travel agent i have always though of this as being a good hotel, and it is if you are staying in the main hotel.
we arrived at the hotel and were told we were staying in the calypso 2 so we got to our room and i was met by a dirty carpet dirty walls and names engraved in to the door frames not a good start our rooms were ok but my 3 yr old child could open the lock on the main door.
the hotel calypso 2 is in serious need of refurbishment to bring it upto the main hotel standard.
the food wasnt to my liking but youll never please everyone and the room s are very noisy as the music is very very loud till 1 ish in the morn this is fine unless youre staying on top of it and the calpso 2 is. hope this helps.
- Advice: ok would not return but would say go once and try it

On arrival we were put in to Calypso 2 - not good. We were greeted by a dirty, stained, smelly purple carpet in the hall - def not what I would expect from a 3 star hotel. The room was tiny for the four of us. None of my kids would sleep on the top bunk bed as there was a gap of about one metre between the bed and the wall due to the position of the bed (if a kid rolled over in their sleep, they could easily have fallen out of the bed) - we tried to move the bed but there wasn't enough room. Furniture was old and past it, stains on walls etc. We asked for another room in the other block of the hotel and were changed a few days later (we were only away for one week) - room was much better - bigger, brighter, cleaner-looking and safe bunk beds. Don't go to Calypso 2 if you can help it and ask to change bolcks if you are put there - the difference in the two blocks is huge. I can't say I ever actually enjoyed the food - I just ate there because we were half board, most of the food was horrible - I ate chips and bread and bits and bobs of anything that tasted "normal". Breakfast was ok - can't go wrong with egg and toast - well apart from eating cold fried eggs!!
Air conditioning good, maids cleaned and changed towels every day.
Wouldn't ever go back - I would rather stay in a travel Inn in the UK and eat out.
- Advice: Streets are constantly mobbed, shops all the same tacky (but expensive) rubbish.
- Activities: PortAventura (pricey though)

I have just returned from this hotel and was really dissapointed to say the least. The rooms are so noisey, I have never experianced anything like it. It actually sounds like someone is in the room with you I was kept awake half my holiday by my neighbour snoaring and scally scotish kids running up and down the corridors at all hours of the morning! However the worst thing was the food it was vile, im not a fussy eater it just consisted of slop, stone cold meat and uncooked chicken and recycled rice with everything. We stayed for a week and most of the holiday I had to stay in my room due to food posioning, which was unpleasant to say the least. I heard numerous guests complaing of the same thing throughout my stay. I will return to Salou but never to the hotel the food and bratty kids was just too much.

i have just returned from hotel calypso with my other half and 10yr old and our 2 friends and their 2 yr old and 9 yr old and we have a amazing time it seemed a shame to leave.
after reading many reviews before going i was very unsure about this holiday, but my mind was put at rest once we arrived. the hotel entrance and reception was clean and modern and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. we had our rooms in "hotel 1" as its called and were very happy the room was clean and the ideal size. yes you can hear through the walls from other rooms but nothing major like i read!!! the rooms are cleaned everyday and fresh towels left. the air conditioning came in very handy!!!
The food was very enjoyable salads pasta fish cheeses meats and many desserts!!! and breakfast was full english breads and jams theres something for everyone, people have said it can get a bit repetive but there seemed to be plenty of choice.
There was 2 pools to choose from they were quite cold but as it was so hot it was ideal , but for other people it may not be as enjoyable!!
i had heard from other holiday makers that they were in the "hotel 2" part and were not having such a good time due to noise and decore so i think we ended up very lucky.
The beach is about a 10minute walk from hotel which is enjoyable as you get to browse at all the shops on the way watch out for the zebra crossings!!!!!!!! the cars dont seem to stop over there like we do!!
The best and most enjoyable part of the holiday would be the evening entertainment it is amazing the guys really make such a effort and must work some long hours to pull off the shows they do, they should be very proud.
the only downfall to the hotel unfortunately was the spanish school children who turned up in we can only assume school trips??? they seemed to be everywhere and once a group left more would turn up. we did only have 1 incident with them when they seemed to take over the pool lots of noise and splashing, we didnt think they were being supervised until later we found out the "superviser" was sunbathing the whole time behind us!!!! but other than that they didn't really bother us, but we later did hear they were in "hotel 2" so again we were lucky!!
the trips from the hotel and reps themselves are quite pricey we sorted the barcelona trips ourselves from people near the beach who stand near red huts and saved around 20euros each!!!! we didnt go to portaventura waterpark we ended up at the aquapolis just a 20minute bus ride, and we're glad we did after speaking to other holiday makers the said they spend most there time queuing for rides and found it to pricey, they didnt seem to be able to buy a day pass either and were made to buy 3 -4 day passes!! all in all it was a great holiday i i look forward to returning. do not be put off by peoples teviews that moan because after being there and re-reading them they seem quite petty!!!!!
- Advice: would go back again and explore more!!
- Activities: barcalona is worth the trip even though its a 2hbus journey!!

Just back from a brilliant holiday here, me and my three kids aged 8/14/16...there was lots of entertainment day and night, the staff very friendly, rooms cleaned everyday, and the food was great for us all. The hotel has everything u need but if u do go out its really close to nice shops n bars...then a 10 min walk to the beach.Pool was amazing always plenty room and sunbeds available. Most of all the best part was the entertainers and kids rep's....the shows every night were fantastic...Mama mia...dirty dancing etc they really put a lot of hard work in and also made u join in and feel welcomed....torres and yoel were hilarious thro-out the whole holiday.Would recommend going as im deffo going back again and again!!!!

My wife and I are in our early 60's but go for a two week sun/beach holiday twice a year and have done for more than 30 years. We have stayed in nearly all the Spanish resorts and islands so I reckon we are well suited to make comment.
HOTEL
The Calypso is definitely a family orientated hotel with plenty of things for the kids to do. If you can't stand kids this isn't the place for you The hotel rooms were clean with towels changed daily and sheets three times per week. The downside is that the room walls were about the thinnest we had ever experienced as you could hear the people next door talking even in a low voice, when the shower came on you were not sure if it was yours or theirs, any scraping of furniture was torture. Another downside is that with the number of rooms and guests two lifts are woefully inadequate. We were fortunate to be on the first floor.
The staff were friendly and efficient. The reception staff spoke good english and were very helpful if required. The buffet meals were OK, you won't starve. Poolside snacks were OK if a little dear. A big down side was the poolside noise, not from kids but from the seven or eight entertainment people. If you want to have a nice nap in the sun or do some reading on a lounger forget it, the loudspeaker system would do a rock concert credit, if it wasn't keeping the kids entertained it was trying to encourage everybody to get up and do aerobics or it was the entertainers rehearsing for the evening's show. It has to be said that the nightly shows by the semi-pro entertainers were quite good. The hotel is handy for the main street (5 min walk) with lots of shops, restaurants and drinking places. The beach is a good 15 minutes walk away, quite far if you are carrying all your towels and beach gear.
Bus and (road train) stop right across the road from the hotel. ADVICE....buy a 10 trip local bus (PLANA) ticket at the main street booth (lots of helpers there) you'll save a lot of Euros.
All in all the Calypso Salou is well situated and reasonable value.

We have stayed in this hotel 2 times now and going in july 2009 we just cant get enough of it. The entertainment was amazing and location superb. It is located about 3km from the portaventura theme park which is sublime. The restaurant(s) are truly amazing with an a la carte and buffet option. When staying you get a voucher for a free dinner in the Al Fresco restaurant. The rooms are clean and comfortable with in the room i stayed in a room with 3 single beds and a seperate room with one single bed for my mum. The pools are large with one being around 8 ft deep abd there are 2 childrens pools and 2 big pools with a mini stream. There is a massive arcade with miniature bowling allet and a lot of snooker tables and other machines.Salou itself has a good climate with not being overly hot but still very warm and good for getting a tan for the sun worshipers. I recommend going in town which is 15 mins walk away to visit la ibense ice cream, the do different shapes and flavours of ice cream for low prices. The beach is large and there is a shop around the corner which is very very cheap.

We arrived at reus airport on the 1/05/09 it landed a few minutes early and we got the coach and off we went as we closer to our hotel the road was blocked off by the local police so we had go down what would call the main street we were told that we had to walk up a side road which lead to the corner by the hotel this was blocked we were only about 50 mtrs from the front door but the police moves us back 2 blocks we where allowed to go in another hotel to wait for the all clear? after almost 1 hour we allowed to go to your hotel?. Well on the early hours sunday morning [03.50am] the people in the next room where banging on the wall for some 20 minutes the wife went down to the staff on @ the desk to complain but it fell on deaf ears so she waited for the thomson reps only to be told he was not to babysit 500 guests?. Now the food well that was stone cold by the time they opened the doors @18.30pm and the reason for this was down to the food trays been placed ready @ 18.10pm & 5 minutes later the lids would be taken off so hence by the time you were allowed in it was cold! no menu's where displayed it was pot look? The entertainment was in spanish as there where more spanish than other holiday makers? none of the bars catered for draught bitter / guinness just lager until 48 hours before we left the apple bar had tetleys put on? otherwise in was in cans priced up @175%? apple bar's maid was great?. I will go on to say that this hotel is total rubbish and need of a re-furb. oh I for got to say that it has 2 lifts & from 9/05/09 one was out of service for 5.5 and it mayhem this was due to overload they are surpose to carry 8 persons @ time and no kids under 12 without adult but as the norm these don't matter for much these days plus the slamming of their room doors? THIS HOTEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED. AND WE WHERE WALKED IN TO A BOMB SCARE ON OUR ARRIVAL AND WHERE NOT TOLD OF THIS AND THERE IF HAD BEEN SERIOUS PROBLEM AND HAD GONE OFF WE NOT HERE WRITING THIS? there is no washing area for clothes but down the road near Jacks there is a my service unit for washing clothes but beware is costs alot for a family of 4 anything from 50 to 100 euros? per week.
- Advice: Salou is full shops & bars + loads of places to eat.
- Activities: Jacks first left to bottom of the road lefthand side great food & friendly staff

i went to salou for my first abroad holiday last year, we went with people aged 4 to 50 so we were quite a hard lot to all be entertained, however , the calypso hotel managed to keep us all happy throughout the holiday, there were childrens clubs in the day, entertainment started at 10pm and then after that the apple bar had a karoke and the wii to play on a huge screen, although it is a bit late to start entertainment, yet we worked round this anyway. the staff were friendly and the rooms were very clean , each day we would come back and the beds would have been perfectly made.also we were given a alcohol bottle in a ice bucket on arrival in our room. the security was also very good as when i had arrived back at the hotel ( after an argument) security came and asked whether everything was ok etc. the food was generally good, catering for all, especially the young ones.
salou in general has a fantastic beach , yet quite a good few cheap shops, and also it is clean and quite easy to travel round (once you get your bearings!). the hotel is close to the beach and these shops and i was able to wonder round on my own without thinking i was lost. the nightlife is pretty good, we visited a fantastic irish bar called Christys, and then also went to snoepys and kiss. which were pretty good. we however were told by others we had met that our hotel entertainment was the best out of the others (we invited people we had met in the day to come and spend the evening with our hotel entertainment) and they were very impessed. and when walking by the hotels you can hear the calypsos but not anyone elses. i actually took part in a competition with the calypso on my last nights stay and i won the prize of a full weeks free accomodation at the calypso for tw persons full board. im going next month!

I was very very worried when I started reading the reviews on this hotel, but do not believe everything you read! I went with my son, and my mum and we stayed in the Calyspo 1 hotel. The room was lovely, very very clean with fresh towels everyday and we overlooked the main pool and stage area. Yes you can hear people walking in the corridors, but you can in most hotels. We had a problem with our air con the first couple of nights, and as soon as we told reception is was fixed within the hour. This hotel was very very popular, and the only big downside I had was that you had to be up before 7.30 in the morning to get your sunbed! By this time they were already reserved, and mostly by the British!!! However, the pool was cleaned every morning, and was lovely. The food was ok - not a lot of variety for the kids, my son survived on chips for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and sometimes the food was cold. Also you need to make sure that you take money for drinks, as none are provided for lunch or dinner, not even water. However, for breakfast you do get hot drinks, juice and bubbly!!!! My son loved this hotel, and the Thomson kids club was excellent. Which then leads me to say I cannot explain how good the evening entertainment was. The entertainers put soooo much into the shows, we only saw Dirty Dancing and We will Rock you, but they were almost as good as the West End! The Kids entertainment is great in the evening, and my son even had to buy the CD and it's now constantly playing in my car! All in all, Salou isn't very clean, or the nicest place to stay, but the hotel is fairly good. I honestly was very very worried about this hotel, but can say that it was as good as any other Spanish holiday and met a lot of British who were there the 2nd year in a row. All that is left is to say Juicy Juicy... Bye Bye!!!!!!
