We just got back today from a week at the Calypso. We stayed at the older hotel and yes the purple carpet was disgusting and in much need of a clean. The room was basic but was cleaned everyday. The two pools there were great and there was a fantastic kids club. The entertainment was fantastic especially the Michael J show. The food was terrible me and my five year old son were ill out there and there were loads of people who were sick. The rep said it was a sickness bug but the meat was re-heated and used for curries..4 people at the hotel were taken to hospital due to sickness and had to fly home.It was full of school children every night so it was very loud. It really did have it's good points but i wouldn't go back, it was a shame the food let it down... i take my hat off to all the entertainment staff though .

The hotel was lovely as soon as we walked into the hotel we loved the sight of it , we was welcomed in and we had felt very welcomed, the first night we even had bottles of champane, the hotel itself was very clean the rooms were big enough for the amount of people in the room we had lovely views of the pool the staff working there were very friendly , the enterainment team were brillant we didnt even have to go else where of a night the team were very happy and friendly. The hotel even had two pools so you had a choose of which one to go into. Hoping to go again either this year or next worth going to if with a family. our thomas cook reps were also very helpful always around the hotel if any problem or help ect.

in may 2010 myself and my college friends went abroad to Salou Calypso. Everythign was fine until they muddled up our rooms, accused us of making noise and complaining when it was not even us, they were terribly rude and ignarent, the food was un describable and over all it was rubbish. The facilities arent bad in the hotel but unless you can live on chips for a week dont bother going.

This hotel was absalutly amazing i have been to threee four star hotels and this just beats them all. firstly the greeting from the staff is fantastic and the look of this hotel is gaurjuss. secondly everybody is excitted to see what there room looks like and we were soo excited so was my two kids aged 15, and 17 and when we got there it was amazing a cauld not beleive my eyes. it was so so comfortble nice cool and the balcony had such a luxary view overlooking the pool. there is a great little bowling alley my kids were basically there everyday plus (its really cheap) there is lots of fun stuff to do in this hotel you can never get bored the food in this hotel yum yum yum. the entertainment was amazing i was in stitches just as much as my kids. i recommend you to visit the theme park at port aventure becasue it is going to be one of my long lasting memerios, and i hope it will be one of yours aswell. there is great rides there for kids and thrilling ones for the older kids , my kids loved the theme park. there is also a aquatic park right next to it and that is just astonishing i loved it.
- Advice: definitly go to this place its great for families/kids/ and simply just a break

We recently travelled to salou in April for 2 weeks.
When arriving at the hotel, the reception staff were very friendly, we then went to our room, and thats where the disappointment started! Very basic, not cleaned to the expected standard, and the room furniture was a bit naff! Although the balcony was a fair size, and we enjoyed many evenings on it with the sun set. The food was mostly OK, not a great variety as they would have the same things on every day. We had to complain to the head waiter/chefs a few times, once was the fish which was completely raw, sencond the turkey steak (red in the middle) and thirdly the meatballs also (red in the middle), i did wonder weather the chefs had a clue what they were doing? The entertainment was very basic, mostly in spanish and was mainly for the old folks. On the last night of the holiday I got food poisening from the food in the restuarant, not a clue what it was? I would certainly NOT recommend this hotel to anyone I know. It should be rated as 2 Star, Not 3 star. Over all the holiday in Salou was Good, its a nice place for all ages!

We stayed at hotel from 28/09/09-13/10/09, and would like to say nothing could of msde our holiday any better. I travelled with my husband and three children who are not easly pleased but even they thought it was great, staff great yes and nothing to much trouble for them. Entertainment staff got you joining in with the games and the nightly shows were wonderful mind you hope they have dried out because they were thrown in the pool nearly every day which they took in good fun. The food was ok always had a lot of choice for even me because i'm a fussy eat to say the least. The hotel could do with a refrub but rooms very clean fresh bedding every three days towels changed every day. All in all we had a great time and yes booking again for this year.

This was mine and my 2 childrens (aged 5 and 11) first holiday abroad so when we first walked into the hotel we thought it looked beautiful with all the marble flooring. I was given my key for Calypso 2 which in fairness did need redecorating and carpeting in the hallways, but our room was lovely and ideal for what was needed i.e. sleeping and getting ready, the room was cleaned every day, with beds made and clean towels (fantastic break from the housework!)The bar staff at this hotel are so friendly and we had such fun with them, the entertainment was FANTASTIC and some of the performances blew me away, they worked so hard and are really friendly and fun. The only downside was that the childrens entertainment was a little repetative and you could tell the staff was bored. My kids didn't really enjoy it that much but we all loved the shows. There was a good variation to the food, not so great for the little ones though as my five year old lived on chips and deserts (which were fabulous may I add!)Unfortunatly we all had stomach trouble and sickness towards the end of the holiday (not sure if this was the food or the water). All in all though, we had a great holiday and didn't let the trivial things ruin our first time abroad. We loved Aquapolis and is a must if you enjoy water-parks, you even get the option of a free next day visit. The bars on the high street are pretty good too! Keep an eye out for Jimmy's bar, most people in there were English including the owner, who was great and made us feel very welcome (good Michael Jackson tribute too!) There are 3 beaches within 10-15 mins walking distance and you get to view all the shops on you way there. Salou itself is quite an eye opener! Lack of Health & Safety, African dealers on the streets ("selling perfume" hmmm), all vehicles are smashed & scratched due to the appalling driving conditions (beware when crossing the roads, even on a zebra crossing they dont slow down!!!) And lastly...PLEASE PLEASE keep an extra special eye on your kids as they are over friendly with the little ones and my eldest had a toilet incident with a spainish person that left him a little shaken.

My family and i have just returned from a week long holiday at the calypso Hotel, we were quite worried about staying in the hotel after reading some reviews on line. We stayed in calypso 1 which is the main hotel and there is Calypso 2, which i have heard is very Run down, the tour operator did admit to me that calypso 2 is in need of refurbishment and that the decor is not as nice as calypso 1. I think my family and i hit it lucky with the hotel room we were allocated which was on the fifth floor and was next to the lifts and the at stairwell, i could hear the lifts going up and down but this did not disturb my sleep at all, however we did not stay in the peak period of the summer months so my opinion of how noisy it was may have been much different should we have stayed in june or july. The room was cleaned every day and the towels were replaced every day. The room was basic, which was fine as we only wanted a place to store our clothes and sleep in. The Entertainment at night was good, a different show was shown each night for 14 nights the kids entertainment was held at night prior to the family entertainment show, this involved a couple of games and dancing, this became a bit repetitive as it was the same nearly every night, my kids were a bit bored of it after the third night.
Now the worst bit about the hotel was the food, breakfast was okay, cereal, meats, cheeses, breads and some hot food such as eggs, bacon etc was served. The dinner and lunch were awful!!! it did worry me that there was fish on the menu one night, then the next day at lunch it was on the menu then at night it was on the menu again as a fish curry, this happened quite a lot, certain foods would reappear on the menu the next day as a curry or wrapped in a pastry parcel!!! All the hot food tasted terrible, fish smelled and tasted off, chicken, rabbit or veal which were on the menu several times tasted as if they had been left out in the sun to cook all week. The meals looked terrible aswell, so it was no suprise that they tasted terrible. We only ate the soup and bread, my kids hardly ate anything, not even the chips!! i didn't think you could go wrong with chips, but these didn't taste nice either. the same desserts were served every single night, great if you like Mousse and orange jelly as that was always on the dessert menu. Both my children were unwell on this holiday, i heard many other kids were unwell also, but i can't prove that it had anything to do with the food at the hotel, it may just have been a bug.
Salou was a fantastic place and if we do decide to visit again, i will be booking self catering, or room only, i certainly would not book half board or full board.

i have recently got back from my 2 week holiday in hotle calypso, we were greeted by the staff on arrival and they gave us our rom key and told us where to go which i thought was good, got to our room, thought it was a bit basic but thats all you need a bed a bathroom and a tele isnt it?...
breakfast was very nice but it is the same everyday and can get quite boring over and over again, same with dinner they had different dinners every night which was good but very weird combinations, its ok if you like chips, i tried a bit off everything as im ot fussy and what i tasted was lovely i must admit,
the drinks in the hotel of an evening are very expensive we found, so after the first couple of nights we walked just around the corner to the supermarket and brought a couple of bottles of drink and it was much cheaper, they dont like you doing it though,
i must say i was very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel, rooms cleaned every day clean sheets, clean towels in the bathroooms everyday and they washed all the floors,
everning entertainment was FANTASTIC they put on a show everynight, eg, grease, dirty dancing, 100 years of cinema, mamma mia, it was excellent and they have mini dicso for the kids to which is great to get them involved,
during the days they do activities for adults and kids to keep them entertained, the pools where lovely but very cold, they have a great childrens play area,
overall i would say my stay at the hotel was excellent and im going back next may to
salou is nice but you get a lot of the same shops and there all trying to compete with eachother!!! i would stongly reccomend the theme park and the barcelona excursions !!
overall a great hotel and great place to stay in !!!!!

we just got back from a long weekend away thur till mon staying at the calypso, and im just glad it was the weekend!! i would have been so disapointed if this was my 2week holiday away, wher do i begin?? the food was not good at all and i eat anything as im not fussy at all, all the food taste the same unless you want chips an salad which you would proberly be better off eating, and the dinning room is awfull and dark and dingey!! and thay have you all queing outside up all the stairs!!! as dinning room not big enougth for the size of the hotel!!! if you have kids which i do, the kids entertainment well what entertainment?? nothing to keep them happy at all, and if you have pushchiars ther are stairs evrywher!! and to get to pool etc lifts are TINY, and the hotel itself is tired and in need of a redecorate. . i wouldnt say it woz clean the floors never washed anywher or in your room and jus seems dirty. . and the bar staff were misreble too!! i came to salou befor but i stayed at the villa marina which was fantastic, for cleaness and kids entertainment and eve entertainment. . id never go back to the calypso again and if your going good luck and hope you enjoy coz we didnt!! but salou itself is nice very busy tho and we went beg of sept. . . .

just came back from 2weeks at the calypso and 1st thoughts were brilliant greeting we had was very good, stayed in calypso 1 so we were happy about that, but 3 days into the holiday a lot of people includin my self and partner were ill with sickness, and we had to take our 11year old nephew out of the pool because the spanish kids who visited were just jumping in regardless of who was in da pool.people reported this to the reception but nothing was done, bar staff if spanish were ok but if spanish people at da bar they wud go to them 1st,The food was very repetitive and our nephew hardly ate anything
