Having took a package holiday to Salou in 2006 staying for 1 week at the California Palace we enjoyed our stay so much we wanted to go back this year. Last year the hotel was fantasic and we found it hard to find fault other than with the usual standard of grading in the area of giving 3* hotels a 4* but none the less we considered it a good 3*. As soon as we saw the outside of the hotel we knew it would be a great hotel. The outside is stunning and stands out to the surrounding areas. The meals were good but didn't cater much for vegetarians. Some of the staff are great but some are very ignorant. The bar staff are great even if they don't know much english. When the bus stopped outside our hotel my jaw just dropped, it had a beautifully lit marble appearance very plush, great first impressions. Got there at 10 am and we were shown to our rooms straight away. On entering the room we had a very nice welcoming surprise, a welcome pack containing chocolates, water, fizzy pop and fresh fruit which I've only had in 5 star hotels. We stayed at the California Palace in May 07 for 1 week. It took about 20-30 mins from Reus Airport. We arrived at 10.30am but we could not check in until 12pm. The reception staff were very welcoming though. The room was a decent size, clean and nice bathroom. My partner and I have just returned from a short 4 day break in the Hotel California Palace, Salou. Upon arrival we had a good first impression of the hotel as the reception area is very spacious, clean and grand, the reception staff were also very friendly. We moved to this hotel after one night in a disgusting one along the road. They checked us in early and our room was great, very spacious with a huge bed, wardrobe space, balcony overlooking the pool, and large bathroom which was really clean. The maids came round every day and also changed towels, and our room was always spotless. The pool is a fine size and is in the sun after about 11am, so it gets pretty busy and it can be a struggle to get a space! Just back from this hotel where we stayed from the 24th April 2007 till the 29th April 2007. We flew in to BCN airport, caught a train to Barcelona Sants then another straight to Salou. The hotel is located no more than 10 mins away from Salou Train Station, however as we have a terrible sense of direction and are to cheap to get a taxi we took a slight de-tour that took us an hour. Before we went we were glad to read the positive revues for the hotel but have to say we didn't find all so great at the California Palace and it is certainly not a 4 star hotel. The positives were the quiet location which suituated in the old town were well away from the discos and bars further along the promenade but near enough for a nightime stroll should you wish. We were the last week of August in this new hotel,we always want this location in the spanish zone. The hotel is very nice,clean,the best beds i ever slept on in Spain,big bathroom,the food is excellent. I come again next year but for two weeks.
