" Highly recommended "

We stayed at the Cala Font in May and had a perfect holiday. The view from the hotel is spectacular and the surrounding area with it's pine trees is really pretty. The reception staff are lovely, always friendly and welcoming. The room was cleaned every day and was spacious and comfortable. We were a little concerned that it might be a bit hilly for us as we are both in our sixties but coped well throughout our ten day stay. The five minute walk to the bus stop is up a small hill but was a pretty walk as you could look down at the sea through the pine trees. We bought a Plana bus card which cost 10.7 euros for ten bus journeys and then could be topped up for 8.70 for a further ten journeys. With the card we visited Terragona, Reuss, Buona Vista market, Cambrils, Salou and la Pineda. Each place is different and has something of interest. Terragona is a lovely old town with a Roman History. The cathedral is a must as it is full of the most beautiful treasures. The archaelogical museum is also very interesting with so many interesting Roman objects. At the bus stop up the hill a bus can be caught to Barcelona. We went on the Plana panaramic trip and it was fantastic. Barcelona is a fascinating city and Park Guell cannot be missed.
We had such a good time we returned this October and stayed in a four star hotel in Cambrils. How we wished we had returned to the friendly Cala Font where the receptionists are so polite and friendly. Cala Font deserves to be a four star hotel as the staff know how to treat customers. The only disadvantage to this hotel is that it is probably not suitable for people who are not very mobile.

Advice: Cap Salou is the opposite to Salou. Cap Salou is peaceful whereas Salou is bustling with people.

Activities: Trip to Barcelona and Montserrat

Good for: Beach

" Not the best place for couples  "

We recently returned from our two week break in salou staying at the cala font hotel and were slightly dissapointed. The hotel itself had a great pool area and fantastic sea and pool views from our room balconey. We stayed half board and there was a good selection of foods however it wasn't the best and became slightly repetitive in the second week. The hotel was close to a gorgeous beach and the surrounding area was lovely but the cap salou area was very peaceful, too peaceful for us.We went a trip into La Pineda which was stunning and I would definetly recommend a trip to the beach there it was great. We spent most nights at Mickey's bar which was excelllent the drinks were two for one from 7 till 9.30pm and the staff were really friendly. It would have been good if there had been more variety with good bars in cap salou. The maid we had was very unpleasant and never smiled which was a shame because the other maid on our floor seemed lovely. Our holiday was fantastic value for money and the location was beautiful, cap salou would be ideal for families or anyone looking for peace and just a few quiet bars. The cala font hotel was o.k but having a friendlier maid and better food would have made the holiday so much better.

Advice: Great for families and for a relaxing holiday

Activities: Do not miss a trip to La Pineda beach

" brilliant! "

Just returned from a week holiday in Cala Font. What a great holiday!!Please don't listen to the negative reviews. The hotel is located by the sea.Fantastic views from the balcony. The rooms were spacioucs and were cleaned daily. My children enjoyed the mini club and enjoyed interacting with other children. There were plenty of choices of food to suit everyone.Cap Salou is a quiet resort but has everything you need to have a great holiday. I definately recommend the waterpark in La Pineda.2nd day is free.If you are looking for a family holiday, Cala Font Hotel is the one.The children and I can't wait to go back.

" Excellent for Families "

Just back from the Cala font Hotel. Hotel was excellent very clean and pleasant. The area seems favoured by the Spanish which gave it a really authentic feel. The kids club is in house which is ok, Staff really nice but my 9 year old was a little bored. The pool area is really good with a lifegaurd on duty all the time. Our room was pretty good and was air conditioned which really helped.
The hotel is really good if you have mobility problems as there are loads of lifts to all levels, although it is quite a hill up to the main road so beware. The food was fantastic throughout our stay. I did hear brits complain, I'm afraid there are people who still expect to get pie and beans everywhere they go. Loads of fresh fruit, salads and seafood which was so good. Loads of chicken pork and beef too so don't worry. We loved La pineda for the seafood and the local bus service is reliable and pretty cheap.
Port Aventura was a good trip take a bottle of water or two with you a poncho for the water rides and if there is any more than four of you get a taxi 10-12 euros well worth it. That said the bus takes you right into the entrance.

Advice: Would go back in a flash

Activities: Port Aventura and La Pineda

" nice family holiday "

we have recently come home from a lovely family holiday at the Cala Font hotel, Cap Salou.
We found the hotel to be excellent value. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. We had fantastic sea views across the bay of Salou from room 216 on floor two.The hotel felt safe and secure, something we were very happy with for our two boys aged 5 and 8.They would have been happy to spend every day in the lovely pool. The pool area was enclosed, and both pools were well maintained.A short walk of a few yards and you were on the beach, which also felt secure. The sea was shallow and the beach was clean with pedalos 10euros per hour.. A short walk from the hotel was a small funfair and surrounding pubs and restaurants, also a couple of hotels we wandered into, one a four star, good but no better than the Cala Font. We were glad to have gone full board as meals out, based on 1 euro 1 pound were very expensive. The meals at the hotel were varied and well presented, i thought there was plenty of choice for everyone. One critisism was you could only get water tea or coffee at breakfast. Any other meal you had to buy drinks including water. However, all in all i thought everything was more than acceptable .
We have stayed in more expensive hotels and not had such a good time,.The hotel was good value for money. The beds were on the hard side but not to bad.
Tips.....do not change your money at the airport either end. If you plan on going to Port Aventura ,get your tickets before you leave England. If you buy 14 day passes the dates dont run consecutively so you can sell them when you get home. We went twice. Its a great day out. If you buy tickets on the day its 66 euros. Also express tickets come in handy as the queues are long.

Advice: you can walk into Salou along the beach, takes about half an hour

Activities: La Pineda was lovely

" would never go back...... "

I have just returned yesterday from a week in hotel cala font, and i wont be going back there!! The hotel, which is actually in cap salou was nice and clean compared to others in the area but was quite out the way. When i booked i was told it was walking distance from everything shops restaurants....there were 2 shops and a couple of restaurants but to get to salou (which is where it is busiest) was a bus journey. There is a beach next to the hotel which nobody was really using it is very small and sunbeds cost 4 euros and are free to use at the hotel pool 100m away! the hotel itself was clean and most of the staff helpful and friendly. The food was awful unless you can eat cold chips everyday for a week!! There is no variety whatsoever and the food was the same everyday. We found that if you wanted to go on one of the excursions it was cheaper and easier to find your own way there as the reps will advise you that some places are very hard to get to when they are not. There is a market in bonavista every sunday which is worth visiting and you can catch the bus from up the road from the hotel it only costs 3.50 to get there and the reps will charge 13.00 for the excursion!! the evenings are quite boring if you dont venture out into salou and the hotel entertainment was more like a kids party every night. The pool was nice but you might have fight for the sunbeds in the morning as everyone has to wait for them to be unlocked at 10am quite annoying if you have been waiting for them since 8!!!

Advice: would recommend staying in the center of salou cap salou is very boring.

Activities: bonavista market is a must for anyone that enjoys markets and haggling!

" My Time At Hotel Cala Font In Cap Salou "

We have just returned from a lovely time in Salou. The Hotel Cala Font was beautiful with stunning veiws and surroundings. The hotel was spotless with the maid coming most days and the bar and comunal areas are kept to a very high standard. The food was good but was a bit repetative, however the prices to eat out locally were very reasonable so there was always that option. There is a lovely bar in Cap Salou village called the Paddock which serves delicious food at reasonable prices where we enjoyed more than one welcome!! The local transport was regular, and you can pick up a T-10 card from any Tabac shop which allows you 10 trips, for 2 people, to anywhere from Cambrilles to Tarragona.Well worth it if you enjoy seeing the local area. There is also markets every day which are easy to get to using public transport.

Advice: The transport is very good. Would definately return here.

Activities: Paddock Bar, cap salou. Local markets every day

" Me and my family have just returned... "

Me and my family have just returned from the cala font which we stayed at for two weeks half board. We have two children aged 17 months and 10. First of all the hotel itself is kept very clean. The rooms are very basic with a small tv which has ltd channels with only a news channel in English and Mtv. The bathroom is clean with a shower above bath, sink, large mirror, toilet and bidet. The walls are paper thin, we were lucky to have respectful neighbours but did have a couple of nights disturbed by the room above. The maids who clean the rooms are very polite, they clean your room every day meticulously. They do knock first before entering and if you are not ready to have your room cleaned they will come back later. If you have a pool facing room the views are beautiful over the beach and ocean. The reception staff are all very friendly and speak quite good English. There is a shop in the foyer which is very reasonably priced. The pool is very clean and maintained very well however the childrens pool is freezing so we didn't use it. The play area is quite small but was adequate for my younger child. The bar staff vary a couple of them were really pleasant however there was a young man and an oldish man who were very grumpy, one night a glass smashed on the floor of the bar and the oldish bar man just shrugged and walked away. As for entertainment it is ok and the childrens entertainers do try there best with what they are provided with. However it is very repetative and sometimes they didn't start the childrens disco until after 11pm which is not great with younger kids. The shows again were ok. The polynesen and flamenco shows very good but the Herbie kareoke is def one to be missed. The food is ok, they do try to create a various menu however it does get a but samey and we did get bored so we ate out a few times. They are very flexible and will let you swap eve meal for dinner and will even make you up a pack up if you are going out for the day.
The beach is just across the road from the hotel and is coved so great for keeping an eye on the kids. It is nice and you can hire loungers and sun covers these are expensive though loungers were 4 euro and the sun cover 6 euro. The only negative about the beach is it could do with a clean as there were alot of cigarette stubbs about the place.
Out from the hotel you can walk right into cap salou village which is pleasant with a couple of restaurants dont recommend food at The Paddock though, route 66 was better. There is a supermarket and a pharmacy. On the night we spent most of our time at Mickey's bar with Kims kareoke, quiz and play your cards right, where we always had a good time and the bar staff their are all lovely making you feel very welcome. Its also very cheap with two for one on all drinks from 7 through to 9.30pm.
To the left of the hotel you can catch buses to lots of areas inc Salou centre, La pineda and Barcelona. Buses are very regular and reasonably priced also. As a trip i def recommend the fountains in Barcelona they were beautiful. Aquapolis is a fun water park in La pineda and you can swim with sea lions but on top of your entry fee the park is very expensive.
Overall we had a good time. It is a holiday on the more relaxed side and we felt two weeks was maybe a bit too long as we were ready to come home a lot earlier. As long as you keep your expectations real any family should have a good time if visiting this hotel and destination.

" Just returned from two weeks stay... "

Just returned from two weeks stay (half board)(Sept 2008).
Hotel is kept very clean and tidy, the bathroom was a decent size with bath, shower, toilet, bidet and a big sink unit with a huge mirror. The walls are thin and you can hear next door having a shower but you are in a hotel, the floors are tiled so noise is to be expected I suppose, and you are kept awake by all kinds of noises.
The food on the whole was good, most of the British people complained!! but we found it good except at breakfast there were beans!! beans!!! beans!!! (no grilled tomatoes) was the same every day!!!!! has for evening meals we found them to be excellent with a wide variety and choice !!!!!
The small shop within the foyer has the most pleasant shop owner I have ever come across and probably the cheapest for gifts to take home.
The beach at the hotel is nice to look at fine sand etc Other nicer beaches are close by. the bus station is just up the road and buses regularly go into Salou for 1.75 euro. also buses to other destinations, including Barcelona.

" just returned a week ago from the... "

just returned a week ago from the cala font hotel , was a bit worried before departure after reading other peoples reviews, i found the hotel very nice , reception staff were polite and very helpfull , hotel room was just as any other 3star hotel i had stayed in previously, basic but very clean all you need on holiday and the bed sheets were changed half way through the week , and i didnt hear much noise from any of the rooms next to mine, i met the maid on the corridor many times and found them pleasant, the hotel prices were abit expensive , the first day i arrived i bought 3 average burgers , 1 small plate of chips , 2 soft drinks and a pint of lager , that cost me 17 pounds , very expensive i thought, but the prices all round cap salou were expensive, spain is not cheap anymore , infact prices are higher than everyday things in glasgow, the hotel is situated next to a cove beach , very nice ,lovely outlook. During the day at the pool they had water polo for the kids then for the adults one day a clown came in to entertain the kids , and one day they organised inflatables in the pool, which the kids really enjoyed, what i didnt like about the hotel was that they chained all the sun loungers every nite and they didnt unlock the chain until 10am in the morning . and by then there was a que of people waiting for a bed , and within minutes there was none left, The hotel entertainment was not great, but i went into mickeys bar on a few occasions and it was not bad in there, theres not much in cap salou it self , but salou is a short bus journey away , but the bus fare was a bit steep , 2 adults and 1 child 11euros return , i thought that was over priced as your only on the bus 10 minutes, the food in the hotel was ok , not brilliant but not bad either, my favotite thing was the homemade rice pudding very tasty, and they also had fresh cooked salmon one evening which was also very nice , i enjoyed my stay at the cala font , me and my husband and my 8yr old son , we went to portaventura theme park which we enjoyed and also the waterpark in la pineda (aquapolis)but can be expensive ,just aswell i have only one child, the resort cap salou is more suited to familys or couples looking for a quiet time, not much there for teenagers, the weather was also very nice when i was there ,spain is so much more expensive now so i would take extra euros just incase, overall i enjoyed staying at the calafont hotel,

" We arrived home yesterday and I have... "

We arrived home yesterday and I have to say, it was like a huge relief to know that we would'nt have to eat anymore of the Hotel food or stay in the tiny (dirty) Hotel room anymore! The food was terrible, every night was basically the same and although they said they had a food table for kids, it consisted of chips chips chips, it got so bad that my 7yr old son started to eat lettuce and tomatos!!! Our bathroom shower would not drain so every evening being last in the shower was like standing in a pool of water and it would be like this until the rooms were cleaned the following day. Rooms were not cleaned every day and the maids were very very unfriendly. The pool is very very deep at one end, if you have kids it is really quite unnerving. Saying that we only got to lay by the pool 1 day, every day was the same - Germans queuing for beds from 07.30am and leaving there towels on the beds although most of the time they were'nt even there!
I found the place very very expensive, 3 drinks (1 being Fanta) was on average 13.00Euros. Presents were just tat but very expensive tat.
I would not recommend this Hotel nor would I recommend Salou.

" ive just returned from my weeks... "

ive just returned from my weeks holiday at hotel cala font in cap salou..the hotel itself is a nice place, however the rooms are very basic..just 2 single beds and a tv, no chairs to relax in,we stayed full board and i wouldnt recomend this as the food was very poor and very repetative, also you only get one hot drink provided and that comes with breakfast.the rooms are cleaned on a daily basis floor swept and moped and bathroom cleaned, but no bed change in the week we were there.the hotel is situated on a very steep hill and in a beautiful area, you have a few bars and shops there, i can highly recomend route 66 if your looking for something good to eat,and we had a few good nights entertainment in the local tap house and mickeys bar.theres also a small beach at the cala font it gets very busy you can rent a sunlounger for 4euros and you can hire a pedloe for 10euros an hour which the kids enjoyed.entertainment is provided at the hotel and the younger children seemed to enjoy this, not much for the teenagers though.everything you need is on the door step..buses,chemist,supermarket,the cheapest being the one further up the hill next to the ontario appartments where they sell mostly everything.

" Well, where to begin. Myself,... "

Well, where to begin. Myself, Brother, Mum and Dad stayed in this hotel. We have been to Cap Salou before, stayin at the Ontario Apartments which i must say was a much better accommodation than this one. The Hotel itself was nice, not the best, but it was satifactory. The very big let down about this hotel was the Food. Let me tell you know, if you are planning on staying full board or inclusiv, i recomend you stay at a different hotel. Disgusting is the word to discribe the food. There really isn't enough food to chose from, unless you like Goat, Pigs head, Monk Fish, and to top it all off, you have to eat the same meal every day for how long you are planning on staying. There is no change in the menu, and after two days or so, i can gaurentee you will be ccomplaining about the food.

The Entertainment is not pleasing at all. If the hotel is providing entertainers then they should atleast be good. For entertainment, me and my family had to walk down to the small tap bar across the road, where the entertainment is a lot better.

At the hotel there are a lot of Russian people, which i didn't have a problem with, but that all depends on your opinion. There wern't a lot of English people there.

The Staff were friendly, but the one thing was, the cleaners. If your expecting a lie- in (Sleep till 11 am) then i wouldn't bank on it as the cleaners just walk into your room with their key and wake you up at about 8 in the morning, and thats everyday!

Overall, i wouldn't recomend this hotel for anyone staying full board or inclusive as in my opinion, i didn't like it.

Thanks for taking the time to read, i'm just sharing my opinion with you to make sure you choose the right hotel/apartment.

" Just got home after spending a week... "

Just got home after spending a week at the Cala Font and we had a wonderful holiday. The rooms although basic we're comfortable and cleaned everyday, which is definately needed with all the sand and dust. We had a room on the first floor at the rear of the hotel, which suited us fine as we have 2 young children so it was away from any noise on the beach/pool etc.
The food was good, with plenty of choice. Even I managed to find something and I am really quite fussy. Only problem was the fact you can only get a brew at breakfast time, and I'm not used to only running on one cup of tea a day! The time bands for meals we're brilliant and we never felt rushed to get to breakfast/dinner and we took advantage of being able to swap our dinner ticket for a lunch on a few days. For those with babies they had microwaves availiable in the dining room so no need to worry about heating meals/sterilising bottles!
The staff were all lovely, and especially friendly to our children. We didn't really use the entertainment or mini club as our children are only 1 and 4, so can't really comment on it.
We found plenty of stuff for us to do and never visited the same area more than once. The area is hilly but that is the same for the majority of Spain. If you need to go anywhere definately take the bus. They are never more than 15minutes apart on the way to Salou/Cambrills/Port Aventura and La Pineda. We did do the walk into Salou which with the children took about 45 minutes there but only about 30 back as it was all down hill, it was a little tiring but well worth it for some of the views were just beautiful.
Cap Salou itself was perfect for us. Our son loved the play park at the Tap House. Mickey's Bar has a kareoke and quiz most nights which was really enjoyable. There were plenty of "supermarkets" to choose from for bits for lunch, and bottles of water!

All in all we had a brilliant time and would definately go again!
