Worth the hype
Fabulous luxurious hotel in a truly magical setting. Wished we could have stayed longer than 2 nights. We visited for a wedding anniversary and booked a standard room as part of Orient Express train package but were thrilled to be upgraded on arrival - without asking - to a lovely spacious junior suite with 2 tvs, 2 bathrooms - one with jacuzzi - and a huge bed. The bathrooms were stuffed with oodles of high quality toiletries and there were also pots of chocolates and sweets in the room, we felt pampered. Sadly... more
Top class hotel that lives up to its reputation
The hotel lived up to expectations and more. The rooms were lovely, the setting is beautiful and the service was excellent - discreet, efficient but friendly. We would go again tomorrow. Only slight reservation was that the quality of the food in the main restaurant was not as good as in the more informal Cips
my disappointing evening at Hotel Cipriani's Terrace Restaurant
The view was great, and that's where the accolades end. For the exorbitant price of this meal, the service should have been stellar. It was NOT. The food was average. The final blow was the EXTRA fee attached to our bill for the hotel's boat ride from St. Marks Square to the hotel. There is no other way to get to this hotel. This fee was the last strike. We were unaware that this would be an additional charge. We will not return and you should spend your euros elsewhere.

I must refute most strongly the suggestion that a charge was made for the boat service between the hotel and St Marks Square. As this reviewer is anonymous I have no way of contacting them or investigating this matter, but I must state in the strongest terms that the boat service is, and always has been, complimentary and that no guest of the hotel or visitor to our restaurants is charged for this service.

Cipriani is stunning, but some service issues
This hotel is absolutely stunning. The views are spectacular. The gardens are perfectly manicured and the buildings are well maintained. We enjoyed a large jr. suite, with a very impressive bathroom. Our room was located in the main building. It had a very large balcony that over looked the pool. We signed up for the honeymoon package which got us a better rate for the jr. suite and included breakfast plus a lunch/dinner for two each day (worth a lot at their very high prices) and one spa treatment. There were no standard rooms... more
not child friendly!
The Cipriani may well be the most beautiful hotel in the most beautiful city on earth! Beware, however, that they have become a bit snooty and decidedly not child-friendly. We were told that our very well-behaved children--ages 8 & 10-- would not be welcome in the restaurant (fine-dining; but they say children over 8 may eat there--). There are also restrictions as to the hours in which children may use the pool, and they are not to make any noise when they swim if it is before 5-6 p.m. We were surprised and dismayed by the treatment we... more

I was dismayed to read this review of our children's policy at the Hotel Cipriani. We are a very child friendly hotel and do our utmost to welcome families to Venice, but we must also balance this with the needs of our clients who wish to relax in the peace and tranquility of our beautiful gardens and pool area. Children are always admitted in our pool provided that they behave well and are under the supervision of their parents. And special seating times are arranged in our restaurants so that families can dine at leisure. As I write these comments I have on my desk a letter of thanks from a family with 4 small children saying what a wonderful time that they have had while staying with us last week - just one of many such comments from our younger guests.

Lovely hotel but obscenely expensive
My husband had heard of the Cipriani for many years and wanted to try it despite the incredibly expensive (even for Venice) price. Part of the problem is we inadvertantly were put in a suite and charged accordingly! The room was gorgeous with lovely sitting room, comfortable bed, and enormous bathroom. 2 flat screen tv's and a balcony overlooking the "lagoon." The staff was very helpful. As a swimmer, I appreciated the Olympic size heated salt water pool. The boat to St. Mark's Sq. was very convenient. We ate at the Cipriani... more
Total disappointment
The trip was a real let down in so many ways. The hotel has dated, fusty decor - an obsession with uncomfortable wicker furniture - faded fabrics and creaking fittings which just don't justify the room rates. The only really impressive thing about the place is the housekeeping - everything was polished and scrubbed until it shone and the pool was the cleanest any of us had ever seen. But this is really the only way of keeping something which is so old even vaguely acceptable! Our shower screen leaked so badly we had to rig up the... more

I wish to respond to this anonymous review as it does not give a true impression of the Hotel Cipriani. Our rooms and suites and immaculately maintained and are refurbished and upgraded regularly. We have this year completed a programme of over $1m worth of investment in a new beauty treatment spa, a new suite and room refurbishments. Yes our house keeping department does do an exceptionally good job and our building has many aspects to it so that every room is unique in layout and design. To say that our shuttle boat was going past the window all night long is simply not true. From 10:30 pm until 9 am the boat departs from the landing stage behind the hotel pool so as not to disturb any of our guests. This practice prevents our launch from coming within earshot of any of our guest rooms.

Very disappointing
Perhaps it is the reputation which preceeds it but we found the Cipriani very underwhelming and were rather disappointed. It is ok but nothing to get excited about. Sure the location is amazing and the private boat service into the mainland is excelllent. However, the hotel is very grubby and rough around the edges. It could do with a re-fit and paint job. The bar is small and the restaurant is rather stiff and stuffy. Overrated and over-priced. Try the newly opened San Clemente Palace which is set on its own island and is overall a... more
Unique, but BE-WARE
This hotel has a charm of its own and is undoubtely unforgettable in many ways. Unfortunately ,unless you pay a lot for a suite (which are OVERPRICED) ,you find yourself in rooms with OLD (not ancient) furniture, which are quite unconfortable. Nothing to say about the excellent public spaces and services offered. For a lower price ,I experienced SAN CLEMENTE of TURIN HOTELS , a 5 Luxury -rated hotel ,with excellent rooms ,spacious ,newly refurbished. The decor of SAN CLEMENTE is simply impressive and there is a 'vaporetto' (boat... more
Beautiful Setting with Amazing Service and Wonderful Food
Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in Sept 2004. Although a little old fashioned the hotel is beautifully set on a private island away from the hustle and bustle of venice. There is a private boat service which takes you to the piazza and the great bonus is that it is away from the busy taxi queues. Its free and leaves every 5minutes. The hotel room was wonderful with 2 huge bathrooms and a jucuzzi. Also, the food is to die for. The main evening restaurant is a must and breakfast is a wonderful feast. The latter, which you can sit... more
