Poovar Island Hotel

This was one of the best holidays my wife and myself have had anywhere in the world to date. Our stay for 2 weeks from 26th January was made exceptional by the hard work of the staff the good food clean and for India luxury accomodation. We miss the days round the pool and the tranquil backwaters and the surrounds. If you don't know the difference between a rat and a chipmonk stay away. If you prefer the med don't bother. Comfort and varied cuisine plus incomparable genial staff make a visit here an essential part of your journey through this amazing land.

We arrived at Poovar Island Resort on the 5th January 06 and had a wonderfull 21 days of utter peace and quiet the staff were excellent especially Reg who arranged some excellent trips for us, the pool man (Sanjy) spoilt us by putting our towels out every morning. Food was lovely and the service was brilliant our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable with hot running water which surprised us as we've travelled to India many times before without that luxury. We stayed at Poovar Island Resort for 2 weeks. Right from the start, we both enjoyed a great holiday. We have already made plans to visit the resort again. Hospitality extended to us was absolutely flawless and the biggest asset of the Resort is its big sprawling area. We both would go for a morning walk every day and enjoy the chirping of the birds and the rustling of the coconut leaves.It was indeed heaven on earth.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in Poovar Island Resort. Like many other people, we seriously considered changing our accommodation to that of another hotel when we read the bad reports however this was not possible at such short notice. this is the most awful hotel i have ever stayed in my life.The hotel owns itself a name of 4* but it is not the truth.Here the their own employees tell that they have cheated the government of india for getting the 4* brand.This place is not for the newly married and other foreigners they ogle at the other people and make a mess of it.Even the other people who stayed with us complained the same and i feel very sorry for those who visit it.Then the managers are highly immatured and their approach towards the guests are poor and to add more... more

We have just returned from Poovar Island and enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a floating cottage, which is slightly smaller than the land rooms, but this is more than compensated by the fantastic views in the afternoon/evening as the sun sets. Yes, the local kids do come up to the balcony, but if ignored quickly leave. There was plenty of hot water for showers and the room was well serviced each day. We travelled on 5/1/06 having read the the reviews posted since November 2005. My wife didn't want to go because of these reviews, but we decided to go and make our own minds up. We had a great time. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent (we took lots of immodium etc and never used any. I would warn that if you don't like curry then you may struggle to eat from the buffet, but you only need to ask (with a smile) and the kitchen will prepare you something. I had no complaints. This resort has an edge as its close to the sea and backwaters both. We enjoyed here for two weeks and felt it was less. Very courteous service, good food and of course a great location.

I stayed at Poovar Island Resort with my wife and kid. We enjoyed it to the core. The location is fantastic and the staff have been extremely friendly and helpful. Its worth the money ladies and gentlemen.
