My wife and I returned to Lassia in 2009 and received the friendly Greek welcome as always at the airport. Sadly our taxi driver told us that Jimi had passed away, the whole island seems to be one family or close friends. On arriving at the hotel our condolences were given to Ruth and in her special way she asked about our family. The apartments are still driven in the unique way that Ruth, her family, staff and friends have down to a fine art. The food was up to its high standard and it is always hard to drag ourselves away to visit the village that is Petra. There were new visitors at Lassia and after a day they were saying they felt part of the "family". As alway a relaxed and chilled out holiday except the Greek Night where dancing is amust, but then I always was competitive. Returning September 2011 to visit a friend's house, which Lassia has become.

  • Advice: Go with the idea of enjoyment, use local buses and get out and walk as the scenery is unbeatable.

I originally booked to stay at the Bella Vista Hotel in Molyvos but was notified a few days before we flew that the hotel was not opening until later. I was offered quite a few alternative places to stay and decided to choose the Lassia Studios in Petra. I'm a big believer in destiny and it was definitely fate that sent me to stay with Ruth at the Lassia Studios. The Studios themselves are generously sized with big balconies and modern furniture. The pool is lovely and unlike a lot of pools I've been in doesn't leaving you smelling like a bottle of bleach!!
Ruth is the owner of the studios - she built them up from scratch with her husband Jimmy who sadly died a few months ago. Leon is the lovely Albanian barman/waiter/handyman who helps Ruth out. We were booked bed and breakfast and there were no sad cornflakes here - you got to choose what you wanted from the menu and Ruth cooked it fresh - lovely. Ruth also cooks a greek speciality most days and you can get to sample her lovely food in the restaurant in the evening. Not many English visitors to the Lassia these days its mostly Dutch and Swedish visitors but we don't mind that and enjoy meeting people of different cultures and nationalities.
If you want to be in the centre of things the Lassia is maybe not for you because its a ten minute walk into Petra but you can choose to walk along the road or walk through the Olive Groves. The sunsets in Petra village are more than a match for Oia in Santorini- they are absolutely spectacular. Try sitting in the Marina taverna eating freshly cooked fish and drinking a glass of red wine as you watch the sun slip into the sea. Magic.
Petra is still a traditional greek village and you will see people who still use donkeys as their chosen mode of transport. Petra consists of lots of cobbled alley ways that you can wander around. The beach is shingle and sand and the sea is crystal clear. I can#t wait to go back again but next time it will be for two weeks.

This is the second time we have been to Lassia and if anything it is now better than last time. We were met with a warm welcome and a drink late at night by Ruth.
The apartments are clean and comfortable with plenty of space and a large balcony. A lot of thought has been put into the layout so each apartment has lots of privacy but still feels like a community.
We ate in several mornings and evenings and Ruth's food is delicious and tasty. We had many happy evenings at the bar after coming back from a day out , meeting up with charming people we had met there . Everybody we met had been several times to Lassia and some had been coming for more than ten years every year as they found it so perfect and friendly.
All the staff were helpful and pleasant especially Ruth , Jimmy and Leon who you see everyday.
We love Petra and love the walk to Petra from Lassia - it takes about 15 minutes but we loved walking through the olive groves amongst the sheep, goats, chickens, cats and birds. We miss that walk and Lassia and Lesvos so much we are hoping to go back later this year for a second holiday .

Well what can I really say, I have been there nearly every year it is a really good holiday if you want a good one. The people are really nice to you, the town is really nice as well.
On your holiday you will always feel welcome, the rooms are really nice and everything is good. If you are looking for a quiet place to go but is also family friendly this is the place to go.
You can make friends really easy and you are not that far from beaches.
This is my best holiday location ever!

We booked a late holiday here in Sept 07 after reading (on the whole) favourable reviews.
Unfortunately, we found that the 'warm welcome' was not to be found. The place wasn't full, but the people that were there were regulars who chose not to include others outside their party...their loss...we made great friends elsewhere and used the place to sleep!
They seemed to resent the fact that we chose to get up, go out for the day, come back and get changed, then eat out...well after the first night we ate there, we could hardly be blamed!
We asked for a plate of olives to start, they did not have any! Unbelievable considering there are a trillion olive trees in every direction! Eventually they unearthed some old pickled things that were vile. After that, every dish we chose, they didn't have...ho hum, we were tired and disorientated so we had mediocre frozen chicken (very un- Greek).
Apart from that...Petra is stunning...well worth it, as is Molyvos...be prepared to slow down, relax and walk your legs off...its so pretty! Anaxos is truly horrid, dirty, shabby, deserted... stay away.
Do explore the rest of the island it’s well worth seeing. If I went again, I would stay at either Nikki's or Blue Sky in Petra... Super complexes with REAL friendly hosts who know how to treat guests/visitors.

This was our second visit to Lassia; our first was in June 2006. We return again in September 2007.
Ruth and Jim are truly friendly and helpful in every way.
The resort is spotlessly clean, food great, all cooked by Ruth and every request made is seen to.
A warm relaxing atmosphere, not cliquey at all. The regular visitors are only too pleased to help, share, and recommend their favourite spots on the Island.
Vangelis Restaurant at Molivos Harbour is highly regarded.

Apr 2007, Mr P Williams

We have been to many Greek islands over the years with our children, other family members and friends and we all love these apartments and the family who run them.
The clique thing mentioned is rubbish as the first time we went to Ruth’s, which we call it with great affection; we were made welcome as if it was her house.
Ruth and Jimi always lead the dancing and it is great to see real Greek dancing and to be part of a family party, which these are.
We have been there and some people go away with the mindset to be grumpy and this will always have an effect on the reaction they receive.
The walk to the town is not far and is great to walk off your meal be it in the town or at Ruth’s, the food is always good there.
There are numerous ways to get to the town my favourite being through the olive groves.
The best part of going abroad is to find these things out yourself, who wants to be told everything, if some need to be told everything maybe Butlins would be a safer option for them.
My wife and I will be returning there this year with photographs of the family who cannot make it as Ruth and her family are considered friends, and it will be great to catch up with all her news.
Lassia is a home from home and we cannot wait to get there.

I returned to Petra with my partner...

Aug 2006, Miss S Marfell

I returned to Petra with my partner again this year. As we were told our preferred studios were unavailable, we decided to go to Lassia after reading numerous positive reviews.
But unfortunately we were really disappointed.
The friendly and helpful staff we'd read about must have been on their own holiday the week we were there! The owners barely even grunted at us - which made me feel a bit uncomfortable to be honest, especially as I was trying my best to speak Greek to them when I could. One young man, Nikos I think, was the only person who spoke to us, and that was on the last day to ask where we'd been all week!
After the impression we got on the day of arrival, and the following morning, we spent the majority of our days away from the studios, only returning briefly to get changed for the evening and to sleep. Then it was a pain to walk so far to do so!
The Lassia appeared really quite cliquey, as if you haven't stayed there year on year, you're not welcome.
The apartments are spacious and clean... however we were disturbed every day without fail at 10am with someone knocking on the door for laundry, rubbish etc. Which was quite annoying as I much prefer late evenings and lazy mornings when holidaying.
I must say if this had been our first trip to Lesvos or Petra it would have put us off returning. No one even told us how to get to Petra centre. If it wasn't for the fact we were made to feel 100% welcome at the pool and bar at Nikki's Studios, where we stayed last year, the holiday would've been really spoiled.
I wouldn't really recommend Lassia to anyone.. Petra is a beautiful place and there are plenty of other apartments to choose from; where the staff are genuinely friendly and which don't require a 20min walk to get anywhere

Jul 2006, Miss R A Evans

First holiday abroad on my own, had a fantastic time. The Lassia is run by Jimi and Ruth who are very friendly and welcoming. Arrived after lunch after a very long day traveling and we were all given a free drink to welcome us.
The studios are very clean, the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. It is a bit of a walk into town or to the supermarket (about 15mins) but it's very peaceful at the Lassia. The pool is well maintained and clean, there were always plenty of sun beds.
I've been to a couple of Greek islands and Lesvos is definitely the most Greek. They don't rely on tourism so everyday life carries on and the tourists work round that.
I did four trips in all through Manos. One to the West of the island which was really good, a minibus tour to the East of the island which was fantastic. Only six of us and the driver so very intimate, we went to the St. Rafael monastery which was so peaceful and calming. The minibus tour is the most expensive trip apart from Turkey but I would definitely recommend it. I also did a donkey trek and bbq in the evening which was great fun but the only time I got bitten by mosquitoes so I would suggest long trousers on that one but Michaelis does an amazing beach bbq about 50m from the hot springs at Eftalou, the beach looks like something from Shirley Valentine and you get to watch the sunset.
I also did an evening trip to the festival at Agia Pariaskevi which is only once a year on the last weekend in June. It was a really good night but was expensive for what you got. It cost 25 Euros and for that you got the coach to the village and that was it, the guide was with us in the coach but once we got there she was off doing her own thing. If there are a few of you, get a taxi as it's only 20 Euros each way from Lassia which between 2 or more is cheaper than the coach and quicker too.
Overall, I had an amazing holiday, very peaceful and chilled out and I will definitely be going back.
