We booked this one week holiday 4 weeks before travelling and paid the same as a family of four did for two weeks, so it seems like it is best to get in early and book a family room if you want one. At short notice we were given 2 rooms for the four of us as the family... more

Everybody comes back
Just back from2 weeks at the Anaxos Hotel and as the majority of reviewers have stated it is a great place. Located as it is, within yards of the beach, you have the option to stay by the pool or as we preferred the beach which we found to be cooler.5 Euro for 3 beds and an umberella sometimes 8 depending on who is collecting whether they charge for kids. The hotel is spotless, the rooms big and airy with aircon available at 6 Euro per day, fridge, basic self catering equipment etc. If you cant be bothered to cook, the hotel does great breakfasts,as does the little cafe accross the road,"The Taste" The meals in the hotel are top drawer as well and are no more expensive than anywhere else, indeed many diners were repeat customers not residents. This may have something to do with the atmosphere created in the bar by the 3 Amigoes,Tony (iv'e got big ball's) Frank (aint no fun waiting round to be a millionaire) and Mikey (problem child)These guys are Aussies and proud of it they are also AC/DC fans and the brackets are an in joke between me and Tony who I know will read this. They create a great welcome whether you return year after year or are first timers, you will feel even more at home if you ride motorbikes, like rugby and good music.Strangely enough for Aussies they don't like Cricket or Footie (except Aussie Rules) So my son Luke had to teach them a lesson or two with some games that we brought. Everyone has their own idea of a perfect holiday and from the number of repeat guests this place gets it is many peoples, what I can tell you is that there aren't too many places that I have visited in Greece, and there have been many, that would have me seriously thinking that 3 weeks would be better next time
Its Great !
Ive just come back from a 3 week stint in Lesvos and I didnt want to come home, but for me Greece has always had this effect on me. The Anaxos Gardens is a friendly run hotel/small complex with a lovely refreshing clean pool. The staff are friendly and always obliging. Just make sure you have a room with air con, you do need it. ( and Maria makes a wicked Tuna salad butty. Around the hotel and around Anaxos there are plenty of Tavernas and restuarants that cater for every need. The food is particularly good in the Anaxos Hotel where steaks are in abundance and cheap, again staff are very friendly and Australian which apparently is the norm. Try thier chicken and Prawn Pasta dish, Im sure its in the one hundred things to do before you die guide. Pegasus do the best Pizzas and they will do a pizza to any taste. For a really friendly traditional Greek atmosphere you must go to the ARISTON Bar this Greek family lovingly run thier taverna and always greet you with the biggest smiles, and they serve the cheapest and best Amstels on Lesvos and while you are there say hello to Aphrodite from Olivia. Take the bus down to Molyvos and Petra soak up the ambience, there is a little more going on but it is still very much chilled out. Take your mosquito repellants, be prepared for quiet beaches enjoy it. The majority of people I spoke to, and there was a few, had been to Lesvos before, some many times, and I can truly understand why.
Anaxos exceeded all expectations
Just returned from a week staying at the Anaxos Hotel, Arrived back on the 26th July 07 by 3pm 27th July we have booked to go back at the end of May 08. The place is just terrific, we had the most relaxing holiday for years, we have friends who have been to Anaxos before and told us about all the excursions to go on, so before we arrived we decided which ones to do. After getting there we did NONE, the Anaxos hotel was to blame because it is so excellent and relaxing we spent a whole week just sat around the pool. My 6 yr old daughter had a great time she was in the pool from 9:30am everyday til about 6pm, there were a dozen or so other kids there who all played well together and has fun in the pool. The Hotel itself is very very surprising , we had a Garden View room which was nice a spacious and well equipped, the restaurant and bar area are nice and bright and modern with a traditional greek theme (and Aussie). The staff are what make the holiday special, Tony, Frank, Paul, Effe and Michael are all extremely friendly and ensure you have a great holiday. They work very hard to ensure that there are no hiccups, but they have such a streamlined operation its runs like clockwork. The other guests at the hotel were great too, everybody got on well with everyone, many guests return year after year, so if you want to sample this little Gem book early so you dont miss out because we will be visiting year after year from now on. Many thanks Guys for a great holiday and we are looking forward to May 08 already, this time im bringing the inlaws. Jane, Phil & Lauren. PS. Lee, Tan, Sue and Al it was nice meeting you and hopefully we may see you there again one day.
Lovely Anaxos!!
Just returned from a week at the Anaxos Hotel. Booked it last minute through First Choice, it was very very cheap so we were apprehensive about what it would be like...but.....as soon as we arrived at the hotel we realised that we had just got the holiday bargain of the century! The staff were so friendly and the hotel was really modern and very clean. We were given a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the sea. We ate at a few of the taverna's on the beach front, can recommend the Tropicana, really friendly staff and lovely food, great prices. The only one we wouldn't recommend is the one at the very end of the right hand side of the beach, food wasn't great and both felt ill after eating there, was not very clean. Only bad experience we had with the food as everywhere else we ate the food was amazing and local rose was lovely. Having said that - The food at the Anaxos Hotel was the best we ate in the resort and the family that run the hotel were so lovely and genuinly cared that you had a good time whilst staying with them. Effie, Paul & their sons Frank, Tony are friendly funny and very hospitable and their cousin young Mikey the cocktail whizz was a great behind the bar. We have been to a few of the greek islands but the locals of Lesvos stand out as the most friendly, generous people we have encountered on holiday..they cannot do enough for you and we were even given fruit as gifts a few times! (Local fruit is delicious!) Would recommend Anaxos to couples and families of all ages. It somehow manages to be very very peaceful whilst having enough to keep everyone entertained and is not tacky/loud in any way. Even the First Choice rep Vee was fantastic....which is a first! Best holiday we've ever had! :-)
Relaxing Holiday
Our holiday was booked as a lastminute deal. All we wanted was a relaxing break..... which is exactly what we got. A lovely family run hotel. Everywhere is clean and tidy. Make sure you have a drink in Tony's Bar, and that you eat in the resturant - the food is nice and good value for money. We would definately go back. A highly recommended holiday.
haris apartments anaxos
Haris apartments, Anaxos, Lesvos. Extremely welcoming, apartments very clean, .....pool & surroundings pristine... Rose & Hari who run & own the apartments are quite simply the best hosts you could wish for... linen changed & rooms cleaned almost every day... A very relaxing holiday...no pressure, whether you want to be independant or just stay in the resort, (apartments are centrally located ... )
Great
Arrived on 1st June for 2 weeks, and had not been able to find many reviews, so was extremely surprised. What a great little complex, cafe/bar and a great swimming pool (very family friendly establishment). It's run by Maria, whose Austrailian/Greek so no problem with the language. nothing appeared to be too much aggro for her (she even helped us with a phone call when our car hire didn't turn up and wouldn't let us pay for the phone call). Our studio was basic but that was expected, what wasn't was a kettle, toaster and tea towels (that's a first). Anaxos itself is so laid back it's going to fall over, it does get busier later in the season from what I can gather. Only downside was fact bar could get a bit noisy late at night but, what the hell, you're on holiday. Thoroughly recommended.
Aegean Gem
The only down side to this holiday was that we were only there for a week!! We stayed at the Anaxos Hotel which was very clean. The view from the balcony was of the pool but also of the sea which was a stones throw away. It was lovely to stay at such a quiet and laid back place where whatever you asked for was no problem. The pool was cleaned every other day and the rooms cleaned to a high standard every day (except sunday). The sunsets from the beach front tavernas are spectacular and the tavernas of which there are several serve a variety of local dishes. The wine was fantastic!! Would definately recommend this trip to anyone who wants a relaxed break (with or without children).
loved the peace
We have just returned from the island of Lesvos It is a lovely green island with lots of mountains and stunning views. We stayed at the resort of Annaxos which is just a short bus ride from Petra. Annaxos was a lovely laid back place to stay It still felt very Greek and there wasn't much traffic The tavernias served lovely food and you could try a different one every night. The Europa snack bar was run by a lovely family Status and Maria and was a good bar to drink at. There was a couple of busy bars with music although the music was mainly Greek which was nice. Petra is busier and nice to go for a night out really easy, bus up there and cheap taxi back. We stayed at Nikos Apartments nice pool and clean basic rooms The resort was quiet and the apartments were not full. The Greeks are worried as this was the first week in August but there loss was our gain as we loved the peace. I would recommend Annaxos and we would like to try booking our own way next time so the lovely Greek people receive more of our money and not the tour operaters.
Paradise on Earth
I first stayed at the Anaxos hotel with my daughter in July 2002 and have been back another three times since! Anaxos is a very special place, quite and peaceful... filled with genuinely friendly people
