" stayed at the anaxos hotel for 2... "
Submitted By: Mrs JA MCCAFFERits also very close to the beach about 50m. ( sunbeds are 6 euros for 2. ).
there is also a great snack place opposite the hotel called 'the taste' don't miss it!
there is a bus service that runs to petra and molyvos every hour ish! its a lovely walk to petra over the hill and along the coast, its about 20 to 40 mins away depending on the heat or if you walk it in greek time! molyvos is further-stay on the bus or get a taxi (10 euros). molyvos is stunning, its worth walking to the castle at the top and theres great gift shops and restuarants.
we also hired a car-driving here can be a little crazy at times! places we enjoyed were sigri, petri, skala kalloni.
we really enjoyed our stay here and would definately return.

" This was a last minute holiday for us... "
Submitted By: Miss S WhiteheadThe hotel is wonderful, nothing is too much trouble for the staff that work there, they even fed us when we arrived late on the first night.
The rooms are large and the shower is clean and the rooms are cleaned every day. the pool is clean and good for children as parents can sit right by it.
The hotel is a stones throw from the beach and all the restaurants which line it.
There were no chavs, its a quiet little village.
Most people have been coming here for years because it is so great. It is full of couples of all ages and families from the UK,Holland, Germany and Czech.
You can rent sunbeds and umbrella's on the beach for 6 euro (for 2), and you can use the pools of any hotel which was handy.
If you want a quiet, chilled out holiday with sun and good food then this is the place to go! You can hop on a local bus if you want to explore the nearby towns and there are plenty of places to rent a car in Anaxos.
The food in the hotel is great, lots of fresh fish to try.

Submitted By: Mr P StallebrassTony admitted that it was the last week of the season, but several rooms that were vacant could be prepared within half an hour. He then proceeded to show us what rooms were available for us so we could realistically have pick of the hotel.
Can not speak too highly of the accommodation, the staff or cleaners. The only downside was that the restaurant was closed and that everyone we spoke to agreed that it was the best eateries in Anaxos.
Thanks to all the staff who came to our rescue in time of great need and saved us from 7 nights on the beach!!

" I have just returned from another... "
Submitted By: Ms C TannerThe atmosphere is, as always, friendly & relaxed just like a laid back Greek holiday should be.
I am certainly not over 50 & still managed to find plenty to do in the company of other holiday makers seeking the same 'chilled' approach to a de-stressing holiday.
The Hotel is the cleanest I have ever experienced & the food is without a doubt worth every Euro.
If you are after a typical Greek holiday than this is the place to come - I am booking mine for 2008 right now.

" What can I tell you about this... "
Submitted By: Mrs S WilkinsonThe resort itself is small and friendly with some extremely good taverners. If you want a change then hop in a taxi to Petra or Molevos.
I spent 3 weeks there in the Summer and have just been back for an additional week, and I miss them all!
As to the negative smoking comments - I cannot say I was bothered by smoking at the Anaxos Hotel this year or in the previous 12 years I have been there.
I could not recommend this hotel more highly. We are already booked for next July 2008. I can not wait to see the family again and to take my first sip of Greek beer in Tony's bar!

" This is one of the best hotels we... "
Submitted By: Mrs C HumphreysThe food in the restaurant is first class, we ate here a couple of times in the evenings and it was one of our favorite restaurants. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean linen and towels changed twice a week and flowers put in the rooms.
The resort of Anaxos is very quiet, if you want a bustling resort with lots of clubs and night life don't come here. But if your idea of a good holiday is eating in tavernas and drinking in bars that play some good music with friendly local people this is for you.
Lesvos is very Greek still uncommercialised the way it used to be when we first started going years ago. We hired a car (from Antony’s car hire in Petra 100e for 4 days which included full comp insurance and unlimited mileage) and explored the north, west and south of the island.
Eating out here is very cheap we paid 10e for breakfast for the 2 of us which was full English with tea or coffee and orange juice - we had this either at our hotel or the Taste across the road. If we had this around 10.30am we rarely wanted lunch. We paid between 22-47e for an evening meal for 2 which included wine and drinks. Our most expensive meal was at The Captains Table in Molyvos where we had the mixed fish platter for 2 with bread, salad and chips, beer, spirit and mixer, and 2 half bottles of wine this cost 47e - really good value as you get a lot of different fish including prawns and squid. We also went to the Women’s Co-operative in Petra, again good value 2 starters, 2 mains and wine and drinks for 32e.
Sun beds cost 5e for 2 sun beds plus umbrella.
Cabs from Molyvos cost 10e buses to Petra and Molyvos 1.20e. Buses run on time so no problem but they stop running about 8.30pm so if you want a night out in Molyvos you have to get a cab back. You can walk to Petra it takes around 30-45 minutes we did this several times.
We had a lovely time we will go back one day.

Submitted By: JohnSwinThe hotel as excellent, Paul, Tony, Frank and Michael deserve much more for the effort they put in to making our stay a pleasure.
The rooms are as you would expect if you've been to Greece, they are kept spotlessly clean with regular changes of bedding and towels with the added touches of flowers in the room.
The Hotel restaurant was one the best in resort. The food is excellent and is the same price you would pay in local tavernas
Anaxos is a quiet resort which suits us. Hotel Anaxos is a place where many guests are return visitors which says it all, would recommend it without any doubt.
We became aware we were one of the few couples new to the hotel with others returning year on year it was a meeting of friends who return on the same weeks each year. This can be intimidating at first as you wonder if you are intruding. However don’t let this put you off as you soon become a part of the group of friends.
If you want a relaxing break then the Hotel Anaxos is the place to be.
We are very likely to join the group of return visitors to the Hotel Anaxos.
A special mention should go to Vee the first choice rep. She was a mine of info and would stop and chat to all the guests whether they had signed up for trips or not. Vee seemed to love her job and it showed one of the best if not the best rep we have ever had.

" I stayed at the Anaxos Hotel with my... "
Submitted By: Mr D BourneThe rooms - Very spacious and very clean (nice friendly cleaning lady) with probably the best shower I've ever had in Greece - very powerful and never cold. Although, I did have to get the penknife out to tighten up the shower head holder! The balcony was big, but not very private and if you got a ground floor room, then every Tom, Dick and Costas would stop to chat to you.
The Pool - Very clean and was never too busy. The trees around the edge block off the wind, so it can get really hot. Its 0.9m at the shallow end and 2.0m at the deep end. There's also a small shallow section for the toddlers to play in.
The Bar and Restaurant - To be honest, we were put off eating and drinking here because it looked a bit sterile and hotel like and everyone always wanted to chat. We preferred to go to the beach front, have a quiet Alfa or two and people watch. For those of you that can't handle 2 weeks without footy, rugby etc... There’s big screen entertainment in the bar/reception area.
The Staff - Very friendly and chatty until they notice that you're not eating or drinking in the hotel, then they start to ignore you a bit. The cleaning lady is very nice and leaves the room spotless after each visit. She even puts a few flowers in a glass to brighten the room up.
The Beach - The beach is lined with bars and tavernas, but none of them are noisy enough to spoil the tranquility of the place. There are sunbeds and umbrellas lined from one end of the bay to the other costing around 2Euros each for the day. There is a small playground on the beach to the left of the bay (looking out to sea) for kids to play on. In the middle of the bay is a watersports centre that offers peddle boats, waterskiing and the usual banana boat etc... At either end of the bay there are rocks which are good for snorkelling around to look at the local sealife and possibly your evening meal!
Anaxos - It's a nice enough area and very quiet in the evenings (it was September though!). It does seem to cater towards the Brits though, with signs up for 'English Breakfast' and 'Sunday Roast served here'. Surely people can go for 1 - 2 weeks without a Sunday roast?! The tavernas are all friendly, clean and do nice food, although I'd say that you're better off going to Petra or Molyvos for the REALLY nice food (Sensibal Restaurant in Molyvos is gorgeous). I'd recommend Golden Sands and Aggelos next to it in Anaxos for their fresh fish.
There is a very good bus route going from Skoytaros to Eftalou (fantastic hot springs with lockers, towels and changing room at Eftalou), stopping off at Anaxos, Petra and Molyvos on the way. We used this a lot in the evenings to get to Molyvos and walked (15 mins) into Petra if we missed it.
So, to finish off, Anaxos hotel is a great place to go if you don't value your privacy too much and you like to chat to fellow Brits. It's also very good if you've got kids. If, like me, you prefer a bit more privacy, then look elsewhere.

Submitted By: Miss Z DaviesEverything you need for a relaxing Greek holiday, Tony and Frank bend over backwards to help guests out whether the problems big or small. As for the previous comments about {not been as friendly to guests who didn’t use the bar/restaurant perhaps they didn’t take the time to talk to Tony or Frank??}
The restaurant is the best in Anaxos anyway and Tony will keep serving drinks until you’re ready for bed.
Will go back as soon as possible, thanks guys for a great holiday.

Submitted By: Mrs C ShearsThe rooms are very spacious and extremely clean with an excellent maid service. The website does not do the hotel justice since the refurbishment in 2006.
We love the resort and there are plenty of small taverna's although we have to say that we have never found anywhere that compares with the restaurant at the hotel the food is excellent with a good lunchtime as well as evening menu there is always plenty to choose from with very generous portions and very reasonably priced and non residents are made very welcome.
Anaxos is a good place to use as a base, there is a very good bus service to Petra and Molyvos.
The Anaxos Hotel is ideal for both couples and families alike.
We have made lots of friends over the years as many people return there year after year for us going to Anaxos is like 'coming home'.

Submitted By: Mrs D DuddingtonThe hotel was spotlessly clean, due mainly to the 2 lovely cleaning ladies who left us fresh fruit after they had cleaned the rooms. All the family who own the hotel were very friendly.
There was a weekly quiz night run by 2 of the reps and the hotel donated the prizes.
Once a week there is a lovely poolside lunchtime B.B.Q.
The hotel is right in the middle of Anaxos and only 100 yards from the beach and all the tavernas.
Don't forget to feed the very friendly donkey in the field outside the hotel! She loves water melon!
If you want a nice quiet relaxing holiday in Real Greece then Anaxos is the place to go.
We will definitely be returning to this resort and this hotel again.

Submitted By: Mrs LJ JonesThe resort was just what I wanted and the hotel was perfect. We were met at reception by Paul and Frank and were shown to our lovely room where the patio doors opened onto the pool, bliss!
Food and service in the hotel were excellent and prices were the same if not cheaper than the tavernas on the front.
The beach wasn’t as nice as some others I’ve visited in Greece; grey shingle with a bit of a drop into the water which was quite cold but it was only the first week in June. It was clean and there were sunbeds and brollies available.
Lesvos is a lovely island and still felt very Greek; the people were extremely friendly, both at the hotel and in Anaxos.
A really great holiday and I’m hoping to return next year.

Submitted By: Mr M BatstoneThe hotel was spotless everyone was friendly the cleaners, the chef, everyone met you with a cheery hello!
The food at the hotel was second to none we tried some of the tavernas nearby but always came back to the Anaxos.
Many of the people who stayed at the hotel had returned year after year as this hotel is so good.
If you want to be left alone and enjoy the peace and tranquillity then this is the hotel for you. We had a complete rest and felt recharged.
The hotel bar which is run by Tony is a gathering place where many topics are discussed; the bar is open until the last person leaves which is often the early hours of the following morning!
Tony will accommodate all music tastes, from Elvis to Men at Work to Blondie!
We shall definitely return to this spot of paradise.

The hotel is family run and very friendly and the food very reasonably priced. We ate at the restaurant a few nights and ate out, for a variety. The beds are a little hard for me but the kids (aged 11 and 9) slept fine. We had rooms overlooking the road, just across from"The Taste", a cafe bar. The mopeds and bikes were very noisy until about 2am some nights, so we ended up sleeping with the door closed and just managed with the bathroom window being open. The bathroom is very clean and basic but this is what they are like in Greece having been several times to other locations. We ate breakfast every morning on our balcony, its easy to buy bread and milk in the mornings..fresh bread too. "The Taste" also sell croissants and pastries...yum. The views from the balcony were superb. There are no high rise hotels here so you can see the olive tree covered hills in the background. We did not cook in our room, there are only 2 hob rings so it is not worth it. You have a kettle so that you can make your own coffee and tea. Eating out is part of our holiday anyway and there is so much nice food to sample.
The cleaner did a great job, except one day when she accidentally picked up my daughters little piglet toy that she takes to bed every night. It got taken away with the laundry, scooped up in the sheets. However we spoke to Frank and Effy and they called the Laundry people to see if they could find it. My daughter did not sleep very well that night. Then 2 days later the cleaner saw us from the balcony and said "Piglet, one moment" She turned up at the door with my daughters soft toy! She was over the moon.
The pool area was great and hard to get the kids away from it. But it is nice go to the beach for the refreshing breeze and pedalo hire. They also have an inflatable sofa and banana if your brave enough.
You cannot come here and not go to Molyvos, it is such a quaint town with steep cobble streets making their way to the castle at the top.
The family at the hotel could not do more to help you, and that was what was so nice and refreshing. Genuine people with genuine hospitality! We dont normally visit the same place twice, however we would definitley consider coming back as you cannot beat the hotel location and the friendliness of the staff. That what makes the holiday.
