Wonderful Hotel in a great location
from Rachub
The windmill Bay is situated at the far end of the Argassi resort, about 10 mins walk to the centre. Wonderful hotel right on the seafront, with about 10 steps down to the sea. No sand but the best of both worlds, you could swim in the sea and come back to sit on the grass area to sunbathe. Food in the pool bar was very reasonable and food was good. Drinks about average for the resort (3 euro for a large beer, 2 euro for soft drinks). Apartments were of a good size and cleaned regularly, There were 5 of us and was not cramped at all even though there is only 1 bedroom, one of the best accomodations we've stayed at in Greece and we've been about 8 times to different islands. Argassi itself was your usual small resort, one long strip of shops/restaurants. Our favouries were the Venetsiana up past the Fantasy golf place, cheapest of all the restaurants we tried and also the best food, the Afrodite in the main square on the roof terrace also very good. Tried the Ethnic after reading good reviews, but not that impressed, basically fast food dressed up! all in all The windmill Bay was excellent and would highly recommend.
Believe all other reviews, this place is 10/10

No point of leaving a long review, just believe all the others you read about the Windmill Bay Aparthotel 10/10 ( dont get confused with the studios, they are seperate places ), Windmill Bay Apatment has it all, quiet location, great pool, shallow sea down steps from gardens of hotel, this is a real rare thing as its one of the only hotels on the sea side of the road to have a pool, but this has pool and sea. Overall, not to be faulted, short flat walk into Argassi ( Road can be a bit mad as not very many pavements ), but when your there go to Zorbas and Premier for food and Red Lion for later drinks as Ken and Jude are great hosts

Returned last week from a lovely two week stay at the windmill bay.the windmill bay itself can only be about six year old,so needless to say was very modern.we found it to be pretty quiet for the time of year, but the resort itself was also maybe the "credit crunch" but there were enough British and Irish families there, and i found it was the kind of place that generated friendliness.the apartments were quite spacious with a decent size balcony,a bedroom, small kitchenette at the back separate and a nice size living type room with a bed and a pull out bed under the settee.there was also a small colour TV but sky news was the only channel worth having on.the building is in a horse shoe shape over looking the water, everybody has a share of the sun on their balcony's at one time of the day.there's a small pool bar serving some cracking food, from early till about 8 at night.next to the bar is a few steps down into the sea about 4 metres over the stones is a lovely sea bed that stays pretty shallow for a good way out, lovely. the resort it's self has plenty happening,we tended to stay nearer our side of the resort as we had 9 and 5 year old children with us.we found we spent most nights in the Apollo next door to the red lion,it was always great fun with "irish tony" getting the party going with karaoke and daft games,I'm a misery guts but he had me up doing daft things, and that takes some doing.as for food most people headed for zorbas and papillion on an evening(that's where the ques were anyway)but nearer the windmill bay is the green frog which food took some beating. i highly recommend the windmill bay we loved it.
Perfect balance between quiet and mad

We (girlfriend and I) booked Windmill simply because it was the cheapest holiday for that week on the net! However, while the apartments are basic, they are clean and all face the sea. The hotel is small but perfectly formed - it has a pool (ice cold in June) a bar which also serves as a restaurant, and a good location a few minutes walk to the main street in Argassi. Breakfast is not included but the bar opens at 8am. However, for a really good feed at a cheap price (about €4) I recommend the Green Frog, run by the friendliest Englishwoman ever, about ten minutes walk away. We found Effee at the hotel to be really lovely, warm and friendly, and enjoyed just sitting at the bar with her on a couple of nights before we went out. The big surprise for us on the island is Zante town, for a laugh we took the "tourist train" from Argassi there one night and simply loved it. This is where the greeks hang out and at night, it is a beautiful, mellow and fabulous place to be. Our favourite restaurant was Manos but anywhere really was good. A good bar is Base, on the main square, full of beautiful people but worth a look - if only to watch a couple jump up and do the tango to some dance music - very cool. A great island to visit, and in June, a lovely time to be there. All the islanders told us to avoid July and August, when the heat is unbearable and the place is packed. I will definately be back.
Lovely Complex - Grerat Staff

I returned from the Windmill Bay on Saturday 17th May, we went with our family and had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and Effie who greeted us in reception was always there and was very helpful. Ive never met a person like her in the industry who is so passionate about her job. She reccommended restaurants, excursions and where to go. Pappillion was definately one of the nicest restaurants in Argassi, food and service was excellent. The apartments themselves were basic but very clean and nice. Unfortuantely we had bad weather for 3 days and with having young children with us there was not much for kids to do at all. But overall the holiday was very enjoyable.
Fantastic location for a relaxing mediteranean holiday.

Just got back from a week in this great Hotel. It's a modern building in a crescent shape set right on the beach, with fantastic views across to Zante town, Kephalonia & mainland Greece. It's about 5-10 minutes walk from the main part of Argassi, for supplies and some good restaurants. Accomodation is on self-catering basis & consists of 2 room apartments, 1 living/kitchen, 1 double or twin bedroom & seperate bathroom. From what I have seen previously in Greece I have to say that this is above average. It is possible to sleep up to 5 people as there are 3 beds in the living area. Kitchen equipment is basic, (Microwave, 2 electric rings, kettle, sandwich toaster) but adequate. Rooms are swept and bins emptied daily, and linen is changed twice a week. The staff are all very helpful and informative. There is a pool bar which opens at 8 a.m. til late which also serves snacks and cooked breakfasts at a reasonable cost. The beach is great although pebbles for the first 5 metres, then sand which seems to stretch for quite a way. There does not seem to be any fast currents here either so is safe for supervised children. The pool is a good size but is not heated so watch out early and late in the year when it does not get too much sun. Sunbeds are free but there is a small charge for matresses for them. We found a great restaurant in the town and went there most nights for dinner. For the best Stifado, Kleftico & souvlaki this side of Athens visit Zorbas. They also do good fish & chips and steaks if thats more to your liking. Local buses seem to be sporadic at ends of season but there is a mini-train that runs twice a day into Zante town where there are some good shops for those that like to browse. This is definitely somewhere that I will visit again as it is relatively unspoilt, quiet (in October anyway) & relaxing.
Lovely Aparthotel

Just returned from two weeks at the Windmill Bay Aparthotel in Argassi. Can't fault the location at all. It's everything you want from this type of holiday. Lovely pool and a few steps down to the sea. This was the warmest sea I'd ever been in, great for kids as it was quite shallow for quite a long way out but deep enough to swim or just float on the lilo. The apartments were well kept and a reasonable size although four of us including two boys aged 15 and 12 did find it a bit small when we were all in it -however that was rare! The snack bar serves great food and Effie and Panos are really friendly and always on hand to advise or help. Apartments are cleaned almost everyday which is unusual. Argassi itself has seen better days but is fairly typical of this type of destination. There is one long strip of restaurants and shops and another street leading up a hill to more restaurants and shops. Three restaurants to recommend are Zorbas, Papillon and Castaway. Great food in all three. Most of the other restaurants are all much of a muchness serving the same kind of English, Greek, European food. Some good bars as well. Particularly liked the Apollo - great Karaoke night - once didn't hurt and I was on holiday! Not much happening in the Windmill Bay at night but the bar is open until 12 and beyond and there was always someone there to chat to. Lots of kids for my sons to chat with and also lots of different nationalities (Dutch, Swedish, Italian and German) as well as English which was nice. All in all a great, relaxing holiday.
The Windmill Bay

Just returned from a beautiful relaxing holiday. The Windmill Bay in Argassi in Zante was everything we hoped it would be; spacious appartments, very clean, fabulous location combining the view of the sea and pool. The staff are great and aim to meet your needs. Food at the snack bar is very good specific requests were always met. Although there are pebbles for the first couple of yards into the sea don't let this put you off as it becomes sandy from there on and is shallow, so buy some swim shoes available in all local shops and you will have the best of both worlds sea and pool at your fingertips. The maid service was excellant rooms swept everyday and bins emptied. Clean towels and linen nearly every other day. Excellant value for money. Best restuarant in Argassi is Papapilon don't let the queue that builds up from 8pm put you off it is well worth the wait.
Beautiful Hotel

I came back just yesterday from Zakynthos. I had a really relaxing time. The Windmill Bay Aparthotel is lovely. Extremely clean, spacious and good decor. I was told it is around 3 yrs old. The pool area was fantastic. They have a big pool and a kids pool. There were a few families there with small children. Nicely kept grassed area. There is a pool side bar that does snacks and drinks. This is one of the best places in Argassi to stay by far. Alot of the other hotels really didn't look as good. The hotel is right on the sea front, however Argassi doesn't have a beach, but funnily enough I found this fine due to being right on the sea. So you get the sea breeze and the sound of the sea. Argassi was quiet as it was still the beginning of the season. Great for families , young and old. If you are a party animal then go to Laganas...the real club haven.... The best place to eat is ZORBA's great Greek food. I dound Papillion's food not to my liking, rice still frozen, brown lettuce and the food had no flavour. All in all a great holiday...If you get offered the Windmill Bay Aparthotel then take it without hestitation.

Hi, I stayed here in the Windmill Bay aparthotel (not to be confused with Windmill Studios) September 2005 for 2 weeks with my husband. We went with Panorama/Airtours. The accomodation was by far the best self catering I had stayed in EVER 2 big double balconies, seperate bedroom with a seperate living room, it even had satellite tv. Very new modern apartments & spotless. All apartments had a beautiful sea view The pool was beautiful with plenty of sunbeds for everyone. A lovely pool bar which was suitable for a lunchtime snack and beers. It was slightly further "outside" the resort ie a 5 minute walk to the centre of the resort but seemed by far the best accomodation in the resort. The staff were helpful , pleasant and accomodating Recommendations Red Lion- trad english pub great for pub grup Venetsiana- Lovely greek restaurant Papillion- Beautiful Greek food The food and drink was extremenly cheap and I would recommend this apartment/resort to anyone
We have been holidaying in Zante, and generally Argassi, for 20 years and the Windmill Bay Hotel on the beach in Argassi is the best hotel we have stayed in to date. True there is no beach at this end of the resort but the hotel and its staff were excellent. Effie made us... more
