Pothos Apartments Reviews
" Enjoyable/Friendly/Relaxing "
Submitted By: taylorjOur first impressions were of how clean the place was and although we normaally book a 1 room apartment which was not available to us at the time we were not disappointed with the size of the studio which was more than adequate for us.
The apartment also had the largest balcony we have ever experienced with tremendous views of the hills in the background which we onjoyed sipping a glass of the local wine while watching the sun slip away in the background at sunset. Idyllic!!
Yes the place was not perfect but given the cost of the holiday we considered it one of the most enjoyable and value for money trips we have ever experienceded and we will definately go back.
Being regular tourists to the Greek islands we have experienced the friendly welcoming nature of the people everywhere we have been, however Dennis & Demitri surpassed themselves. They could not have been nicer hosts and nomatter what you had to ask them for they duly obliged. Nothing was too much bother for them.
If you enjoy a peaceful, relaxing holiday, the Pothos fits the bill. The resort is easy walking distance which although small offers sufficient restaurant's and bars which in these credit crunch times I considered reasonable for both dinning out and drinks.
Being one of life's more difficult individuals to please for me the Pothos ticked all the boxes for accomodation, cleanliness, friendliness of the owners and value for money I would recommend the place to anyone.
Advice: Small resort, adequate restaurants, everything you require for a relaxing holiday
Activities: Fantasia and Gyromania restaurant's were good, the train trip was a great couple hours well spent

" Can't wait to go back! "
Submitted By: lipgloss1982Obviously the apartments are basic but what do you expect?!?!? If you do not pay a lot of money, then you will not get 5* accommodation. Everything you needed was available, the only thing we had to buy extra were some clothes pegs for the washing line which were a couple of euros from the supermarket located 4 mins down the road.
The only slight niggle was that the shower head was not mounted on the wall so you would hold it over yourself as you showered, but that was no big issue. The bathrooms in Greece are regarded as wet rooms and therefore you do not have shower curtains!!! Greek people regard them as unhygienic. Lets face it there is nothing more off putting than a mildewy curtain clinging to you. Yuk! There is a drain in the middle of the floor so that any spillage either drains away or evaporates quickly because of the heat.
The most important thing for me is that they were clean. The room was cleaned and bins emptied almost everyday. There was always enough loo roll, and even if you did run out then you could just ask either Dennis or Demitris for some more. (I do not understand what the previous people and their reviews are talking about!!) The pool was cleaned every night, and on the day we left the surrounding patio area was being washed down at 8am.
You get lovely views of the mountains from your balcony, and we could also see the sea and Keffalonia. The location of the apartments is great because you are only an 8 min walk away from the main road with all the tavernas and shops. There is a gravel path that cuts through the middle of the salt flats. It is not lit but because of the clear skies at night you can see where you are going.(I have read somewhere that the salt flats smell, this is not true!)
It is again about an 8 min walk to the beach as it is on the other side of the main road. It is quite pebbly when you first get on the beach but if you walk to the right it becomes sandy.
The bar at Pothos is open to sell food from 8am until 4pm, but they continue to sell drinks until the last person leaves (some nights it was 2am!). We had a couple of english breakfasts which were good, and the bar had lots of other food to offer such as pizzas, salads, burgers.
The apartments and the owners were brilliant, it was the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday i have ever had. Dennis and Demitris are so friendly and hard working. Whatever you need they will gladly do for you. I can't wait to go back there again!
Advice: Something for everyone, great food, great wine, friendly people, family friendly.
Activities: Zorbas taverna, coach trip around the island

" Very Basic "
Submitted By: stitch6969We've had a studio with, two singles, and 1 cot one scratched plastic table with cigarette burns and two plactic chairs with strange looking brown marks on the balcony,
The kitchen utensils were awful no microwave and Everything mismatched and very well used.
No toaster, but a portable electric hob with one small and one big ring. Electric kettle.
When I've opened the door to the bathroom I nearly died it was dark smelly and no shower curtain making it wet all the time.
the Maid service (swishing dirty mop around the floor and leaving it sodding wet)once a week. Linen and towels changed once a week. 1 loo roll per week.
It is not a safe enironment for my 16 month old son he fell and cut his eye open and banged his head several times in the end we laid towels everywhere to protect him from the grooves in the floor.
Mats on the sun loungers are mouldy if you turn them over so don't.
Now, the good bit:
The owners are friendly and their family produced wine is second to none. It does not give you hangover at all! These are the only reasons that I've rated this place 2 our of 10. Mind you you don't have to stay at Pothos to drink it
Advice: Alyhes is fantastic
Activities: Jungle Bar you must visit

" You get what you pay for "
Submitted By: Ollie_WI did not expect any luxuries for the money I've paid. But I did not expect something out of 'How clean is your house' (before bit) either.
Accomodation is very basic.
We've had a studio with one double bed, one single, one scratched plastic table with cigarette burns and two plactic chairs with strange looking brown marks on the balcony, one chair with wobbly legs in the room, one dressing table with two tiny drawers, one bedside table with one tiny drawer, one single wardrobe with assortment of wire hangers. Everything is very chabby and a bit sticky to the touch.
Extras: 2 towels, 4 bedhseets (with single sheet stretched over double bed, all linen must have been white at some point but now manky shade of grey), 3 pillows (no problems here - all of them had pillowcases on), 2 forks, 2 knives, 2 tablespoons, 2 teaspoons, 2 chipped mugs, 2 plastic cereal bowls, small milk pan, frying pan and a huge soup pan. Everything mismatched and very well used.
No toaster, but a portable electric hob with one small and one big ring. Electric kettle. Sockets so far away from the kitchen bench that I've had to watch the kettle boiling every time as it had a habit of jumping around a bit when reaching boiling point.
Felt lucky that we did not have to share and take turns with pillows.
When I've opened the door to the bathroom I wanted to cry. Clearly it was not cleaned for a very long time, grime embedded in every surface. To flush the loo you need to use a big pink washing-up bowl (provided). I've had to dispose of the toilet brush, never seen anything as unhygienic in my life.
Maid service (swishing dirty mop around the floor and leaving it sodding wet)once a week. Linen and towels changed once a week. 1 loo roll per week.
Never seen anyone swipping around the pool. Never seen anyone cleaning the pool either, but the water was changed. Mats on the sun loungers are mouldy if you turn them over so don't.

" Where do you start when you want to... "
Submitted By: Ms Emma EI credit this to Pothos for being everything you could hope for and more.
The apartments contain everything you need for a self catering holiday. Plenty of room, lovely little balconies, peaceful views and are kept clean and tidy by the wonderful staff.
The pool area was never packed out or uncomfortable, the pool itself was beautifully kept and the nearby bar was perfect to nip into to get your beer o'clock drink!
I haven't even started on the staff!
By day you have the lovely Dennis, by night you have what I can only describe as the perfect hosts, Helen and Demetri! Totally made mine and my friend Sarah's holiday.
Both of them went out of their way to make us as comfortable and welcome as you could imagine.
Examples, I needed a hairdryer - Helen brought me her own from home to have for the week. Sarah wanted a Bloody Mary - Helen jumped on her scooter and drove to the supermarket to buy Tomato Juice as they'd just run out.
Demetri entertained us with possibly the worst version of Summer Nights' ever!!
You don't expect service this good on a holiday, especially not one you've done on a budget, but to actually GET the service - you can't put a price on that.
I can honestly say, hand on heart that if you choose to go to Pothos, you will NOT be disappointed. You'll be left wholly satisfied and completely depressed that you're having to leave.
If you go, make room in your case and let me know... I'm getting in it!

" Just returned to UK from a very... "
Submitted By: Mr B RidleyMany thanks to Dennis, Demitri, Helen, Roula and staff.
Accommodation typically Greek. Position good behind the salt flats however some of the passing mopeds and m/bikes need silencers.
The pool was well maintained and clean. All the staff were more than willing to assist. Will return without hesitation if holidaying on Zante again.
The main drawback with this holiday was the so called airport departure lounge, the exorbitant charges for food and drink in the lounge; the dirty conditions and the advice from the tour rep prior to departure that a charge of €9 per kilo for excess baggage would be charged.
The remarks about the airport in no way reflect the Pothos and its facilities for which we have nothing but praise.
All the best for the future to the staff.

" My boyfriend and I (22 & 19)... "
Submitted By: Miss L AmesLoved the holiday. It is a great little place to stay with very friendly staff.
The rooms were fairly clean although basic as too expected in Greece.
Swimming pool was nice with plenty of sun loungers. Quite a few places to go out to eat or drink.
Weather was also amazing and there were lots of wonderful little beaches to explore. Great for kids and families or older couples.
Only thing I would say is it is not for people who are looking to really party hard. If that’s what you’re after go to Laganas because this place seems less welcoming to the young and lively (and noisy!!).
I would certainly go back to the resort but for now, I will be picking more lively destinations to stay!

We arrived at the Pothos and were shown to our apartment which was on the ground floor - number 7, the view from our patio as amazing. The apartment was clean and spacious. The cleaners came in everyday to clean and always left a toilet roll, so you never run out!
The pool area was always clean and tidy and the pool was cleaned everyday. The pool itself was lovely and refreshing and you could use the lilo's and rings around the pool. The pool bar was inviting and the food they served was second to none especially the homemade pizza!
Everyone at the Pothos was pleasant and helpful, and we would go back there again - we met several people that had been going there for years and you can understand why.
Alykes itself is lovely, we have been to Laganas and kalamaki but this is far the best, the beach is wonderful but go right when you get on the beach as the other end is a little stoney, as for the sea, you can walk out for ages and its only up to your thighs, brilliant for children. The one thing everyone must do is go on the Little Train you will have a great time as will the children, also go on a island tour its a great way of seeing the island without hiring a car - 20 euros each but worth it.
Now for the restaurants, the best is Denni's Diner opposite Zorbra's and the Ambosia is also very good, their Stammas is too die for and if you order wine,
when you get the bill the wine is free.
I think thats it but if you want my opinion, Pothos is the place to go for a lovely holiday and cant wait to go back.
