I stayed in laganas, which is the liveliest resort on Zante island, the place was okay, watch out for little Albanian children selling items, there gypsies!
I stayed in Paradise Apartments on the main stretch, it was all right, but I got scabies from the old block of apartments on the last night!
The airport is one of the smallest airports in the world...it was a nightmare! People sleeping on the floor because there wasn’t enough chairs, it was disgusting, and the food was expensive! You had to wait outside under canopies before going in ...that’s how small it was!
I would never go back there!

Booked a cheap last minute break to...
9 / 10
Oct 2007, Miss J Outhwaite

Booked a cheap last minute break to Alykes (Alikes) through takemetogreece.com - tour operator My Travel / Manos. Went to Alykanas beach last year so had an idea what resort like. I always look on review sites as in past they have helped when choosing holiday so here goes hope this is of help to you.
Coach from airport good, 6 stops enroute Paradise Apartments are last drop off, took about an hour, coach air conditioned, informative rep. Immediately met by Marietta at Paradise Apartments (PA) with key to apartment. Immaculate inside, typical holiday apartment, however good quality beds, wardrobes, shower room which has open shower not ideal but hey your on holiday! All the cutlery & crockery you need even a kettle which is free of charge most self catering in Greece you pay around 12euro for kettle for one week.
Air conditioning available 35 euro for week but in Oct you don't need, gets chilly on an evening, Our apartment had terrace with part sea view, this is very very limited view due to garden & trees, but still ok. You are 25m to the beach, it's quite narrow near the PA and no sand just pebbles, take 5 minute walk and you have lovely sandy beach. The pool area at PA is immaculate with plenty of sun beds, as it was Oct very quiet, believe it gets very busy in high season.
Alykes is small traditional Greek resort, with a 10/15 walk on beach taking you to Alykanas, sea is beautiful and shallow for around 200m, we have no children but told ideal for kids.
Take breakfast at Palm Tree 2 (on the beach) or Relax Bar (at x road on main street) Full English with drinks for two around 10euros. We ate at few places all great food, you can have traditional Greek or English food, meal for two, starter, mains, litre of red & couple of beers for around 25 Euros !
Restaurant in Alykes called Olympic Cuisine Bar all I can say is WOW! A meal here can be reasonable or very very expensive it's your choice, the menu is amazing and you will experience some of the finest food in Alykes. We were lucky to get a table as everyone books in advance, well worth going. Close to the PA is a restaurant called Apollo 5 min walk, again good food and good value across the road is great bar called Viagro, fab cocktails, beer and great owners really look after you.
Bit of advice on what to take with you - tea, coffee & sugar as essentials as they are quite expensive about 8euro for small jar coffee. The AP are excellent value, the rooms were cleaned every day, beds made, take extra towels as you only get one set for week also bedding not changed in week no great hardship, despite this I highly recommend PA. Food is very expensive at pool bar at PA, 2 coffee's, 2 toast's, butter & jam 13euros!!!!!!! Apart from that it's great.
Be aware the cost of food & drink at airport on return they very very pricey. 2 beers (750ml) & pack of Pringles 23 Euros! Ouch!
Spiros and Marietta are always around if you need any help and keep the PA in immaculate condition.

This was my first holiday abroad with...
8 / 10
Mar 2007, Miss E Dixon

This was my first holiday abroad with my bf and I really enjoyed it.
We stayed at Paradise Apartments for 7 nights. The room was clean, spacious and bright. It was kitted out with 2 cooking rings, a fridge, few bits of crockery, lovely clean comfy beds, dressing table with mirror and huge wardrobes with plenty of hanging space. The best bit by far about the room was the remote controlled air conditioning!
As the temperature outside was over 30 degrees it was a godsend for me-especially as I had to blow dry my hair! This along with the safe did have an added charge-but it was well worth it! The bathroom was a little small and like the other reviews state we to tended to flood the bathroom on a regular basis but it served its purpose and was reasonably clean.
My only issue was that our towels were never changed within our 1 week stay so we ended up buying a couple of towels for 2 euros. The cleaner did a quick clean and removed the "poo bucket" 5 days out of 7.
The pool was lovely, plenty of sun beds and steps lead directly from pool area to the pebble beach and into the sea- the beach here is very pebbly so we bought some sandals to wear but further up the resort is sandy beach. The pool and surrounding area was clean.
The pool bar served lovely snacks including a full English brekky with tea and orange juice. There were also burgers, pizza, sandwiches which were all lovely and a good price. No entertainment at this resort and it is also situated right at the end of Alkes which is very very quiet.
Alkes itself is small, busy up until around 9.30-10 pm then it dies. So if you are looking for clubbing and pubbing this is not the place.
We enjoyed our stay here very much.

We had a very nice time here, it is...
9 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr Pd James

We had a very nice time here, it is set in a quiet place and is clean and tidy all the staff have been very nice to us all the time.
I have a family of two small girls one 3 and the other 7, and this was perfect for them.
The apartment we had No 13 had two bedrooms each with its own shower, toilet and wash basin. They were very clean with a large balcony it has a small kitchen with basic pot pans etc.
The air conditioning is a bit pricey at 35 euros per week per unit and this apartment has two units but we were glad to have it. Be aware that like most shower rooms most of the water ends up on the apartment floor and we all went over the kids more than once so take care!
The snack bar has a good choice of food and is good for breakfast we ate out every night in the town and never had a bad meal. The Pool area is also very clean and well maintained and not that busy although when wet the floor is a bit dicey for younger ones “Stop Running” a phrase often heard.
You get no noise from the camp site or at least we didn’t although there is a lot of Greek and Italian families on holiday at this time who use the pool this is no problem except keep an eye on your little ones as the Italian children will take off their arm bands to borrow one this happened when I was in the pool with my 3 year old but was sorted with a good old British stair at their parents.
I would advise the hire of a car to get around the island as it is very beautiful on the north side I know the reps recommend their hire cars but if you go just down the road they all do FULL INSURANCE included and are a lot cheaper .we used best choice next to the main super market
We did this and sorted our trips ourselves as some of the boat trips can be quite long for the little ones, we just drove to nearby and took a local boat at a fraction of the time and price.
Just one moan We didn’t see much of our rep I’m not sure if this was a good or a bad thing not much help really but they seldom are although she was very quick to screw 9 euros each out of us to pre book our flight seats back home saying we would not be able to sit next to our own young children on the way home my advice is to get a receipt for this as I did this way you can argue the toss when you are at the airport as we had to because they had no record of our purchase !!! But was assured by the check in girl they would not split up children under 14 with at least one of their parents
And I will be sorting this now we are home.
All in all very nice and worth it.
Just an update: 13/01/07
I contacted the holiday company when we got home about the seat booking and was given a full refund and an apology. Result.

Apr 2006, Mrs K Walker

We have been to Greece quite a few times and found this to be the biggest apartments that we have stayed in.
We stayed in the 2 bed apartment, which had 2 good sized bedrooms, one double and one twin. Both had doors leading onto a very large balcony overlooking the sea and the pool.
It was perfect for having breakfast in the morning or a nice drink in the afternoon.
There were 2 bathrooms, typically Greek, but at least they had shower curtains!!
The kitchen was very basic but we ate out every night so that did not matter.
The pool was kept very clean and the pool bar served really good food.
Although it was a fair walk to the main town, it meant that it was very peaceful.

This was our first time in Greece or...
7 / 10
Oct 2005, Mrs J  Jones

This was our first time in Greece or on the Greek islands and we weren't sure what to expect. It was also the end of the season - October half term and we knew we were risking the weather a bit. As it happened the weather was very hot. apart from one day, and our greatest concern was the earth tremors - there was one in the morning prior to our arrival and three smaller tremors while we were there. The largest of these woke us up just after midnight and, although it lasted just a few seconds, it gave us a shock. We were assured by the locals that they happen regularly and that all the buildings are built to withstand earthquakes after the island was virtually destroyed by one in 1953. Comforting!
Our apartment was number 13 - I think it must be the biggest apartment in the small complex. It was a first floor apartment, North facing (looking over the sea) with beautiful views of the area and Kefalonia. It was made up of two bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms, plus a kitchen and a large balcony that was accessed from both bedrooms.
The bedrooms were about 10 x 10 each and equipped with a double bed in one and twin beds in the other plus a dressing table in each, one bedside cabinet, a wardrobe and a mirror on the wall. They were big enough to sleep in, but we had one cold day and found there was nowhere in the apartment for the four of us to sit - the table and four chairs were on the balcony which was wonderfully cool when the weather was hot but freezing when the sun went in and the wind blew.
Both bathrooms were about 6x4 with a shower and toilet (plus the obligatory loo roll bucket) . They were very basic. The shower was hand held but with a strong flow - we soon learnt how to shower one handed, though the whole bathroom was flooded by the time we'd finished. Hot water was intermittent! On one morning out of the seven there was no hot water but at other times it was available when we needed to shower though not later in the evening.
The kitchen was big enough (about 8 x 6) but badly equipped. There was a sink, two decrepit hot plates, a table and a cupboard on the wall. The cupboard beneath the sink was damp and smelly. The only equipment in the kitchen was four plates, two dishes, three glasses, some cutlery (four knives and forks, two teaspoons, a bread knife, tin-opener and, most important of all, a corkscrew); saucepans and a kettle. We did complain to the rep and a few extra bowls appeared. There were lots of places to eat at a reasonable price so it wasn't any great hardship (we were paying about forty to fifty euros for four of us for food and drinks).
We thought the food was good - we tried to eat from the Greek menus and the food seemed to be freshly cooked wherever we went. Alykes in October is full of English tourists (maybe it's like this all year round) so there were plenty of BLTs and burger and chips for those who wanted them.
Back to the apartments: The site itself was small, friendly, clean and literally a few yards from the beach - not the best part of Alykes beach, but the beach nonetheless. At the start of the week the pool was very inviting but during the week it went a funny green colour and we heard that the owners were treating it - we didn't use it again. The sea was so close that you could lay on the poolside loungers and then walk down
