Great Place to Stay!!
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at Villa Cuba from Dec. 7-21, 2002 and found this to be one of the best vacations I've had in a long time. The beach was great for sun and activities, while the water was clear and warm for swimming. Bar at the beach had snacks and food but buffet restaurant had better choices. This was a place where you could do as little or as much as you wanted, since activities are always going. I went to the buffet restaurant for B/L/D daily and found the service to be excellent, while the food choice was varied almost daily. The quality of food was typical for cuba, but no one I spoke to had any bad reactions to the food. I would recommend you bring your travel mug from home for use at the bars, since they only give you small plastic cups (unless you drink at the bar, then they give you an actual glass) Drinking water is available at all bars and restaurants, just bring in your bottle and they will fill it up for you. I found the Lobby Bar to be a very popular place to meet people since it was fairly busy most of the time (after the sun had gone down) My room was well kept during my stay, with fresh towels, toilet paper etc always there. I always had lots of water for showers and no problems with pressure. If you are into shows, the staff put on a nice variety of shows during my stay, the usual dancing, music, audience participation. Every night, the staff would gather up all who were interested and go club hopping around Varadero to the wee hours (small charge was collected) A good way to get around is the local double decker bus ($2 good all day) or you can take a taxi that looks like a large orange on wheels $5 one way If you are into golf, there is an 18 hole championship golf course about 5 minute drive away, with a driving range I paid $4 for a bucket of balls and had a great time. I had heard good things about the lobster available in Cuba so I made some inquires and was pointed to a very good restaurant in Varadero. I had never had lobster before so this place turned into a most memorable occasion. They served a huge plate of lobster, either in the shell or in sauce, with potatoes, rice, salad. The price for 2 of us that included the meal, desert and drinks was $45 US. Over my 2 week stay I went back a second time. The name of the place is el Caney and it is near Calle 40. (If you go there, let me know what you thought of your experience) Overall, I would recommend this hotel as a good value and a great time, I got very emotional when the time came to leave. I will be returning again in the future. Some tips for visitors to cuba: -if you have the interest/desire, please walk outside the gates of the resort and meet the local people, they are the nicest and most friendly you'll ever meet -have some small things to give away (I had a few dozen pencils and shoes that were very warmly received) If you have any questions about anything that is here or something I may not have covered, send me an e-mail. I was at this hotel from Nov 9-16 with a friend and we had the time of our lives. We were treated like royalty and all the staff were wonderfully accommodating. The beaches are beautiful as was the hotel. The entertainers have talent galore. I recommend this resort to everyone. We plan on returning nexy year as well...
Villa Cuba, Great Deal

I was there from november 1-15, 2002. There hotel is great, it's very well-located and the staff are very friendly. Here's a tip, do not buy cigars from the staff at the hotel, they are cheap but they're fakes. I got taken. The food was decent but the eggs were just the biggest mystery of all, how can they serve undercooked eggs every morning, yuck ! I rented a scooter a the hotel with 4 other guys and we went all the way to Habana, it took 3 hours to get there 1 hour for lunch and 3 hours back, here's a tip, bring sunglasses for the day and goggles for the night as flies can be quite annoying in your eyes. It costs 25$ to rent at the hotel for 24 hours and some places in town go for 22$ for 24hours. A visit to nearby Cardenas is well worth it (watch out for those vicious black hookers on the main street)it's insane but interesting city to visit. It's always 4-5 degrees hotter inland then in Varadero meaning 30C at the hotel is 35C in in Cardenas and points south. In conclusion, Villa Cuba is a great hotel but remember the government owns the resort and pays the employees very little so budget as much as 50$ per week on tips and you will be served promptly and with respect. And remember rum is available usually for 5$ at the bar but keep a low profile. Have fun
Review of Villa Cuba Varadero

I went to Varadero Cuba the week of Nov 9-16 and stayed at the Hotel Villa Cuba. Five of us went and we all varied in opinions of our stay. The brochure says it is a four star but it really is a 3 star compared to other resorts in the Caribbean, Dominican Republic etc. The hotel itself is nice, clean and the rooms are pretty standard like any resort. The water was always hot and the towels were replaced daily. The maid kept the room clean and refreshed toiletries when needed. I suggest you bring down your own toilet paper and soap to last the week as the bars of soap are small and the toilet paper rough. I also suggest to bring a pillow if you can cause the pillows they supply are really ......I mean really thin. The air conditioning was always working which was great when you needed to get out of the sun. The room came equipped with a small fridge, hair dryer,tv, and extra blankets. The staff was helpful and friendly...... I wish I knew more spanish because it was difficult to communicate on a higher level with them. Maybe thats why some people who gave reviews thought the staff was not friendly. The drinks were powerful and the beer (only one brand called Cristal) was good too. For mixed drinks they use their own brand of cola called Tropicola and it is not very good....... u can't get Coca Cola from the bar so dont ask. The food at Hotel Villa Cuba and at other resorts in Varadero we found out was pretty bland and boring. But then you have to remember this is Cuba.....They get next to nothing imported from the states so dont expect Triple AAA cuts of meat or gourmet meals....... The chicken was good and so was the ham...... the ham was really good. Believe me you wont starve..... there is something for everyone to eat. There was a couple guests who made a scene about the food and one guest even had the nerve to tell one hotel employee that she was there to be served and that the hotel employee was her slave!!!!! I cant believe people would be that way on vacation.!! Anyway the food did get better everyday and the staff at dinner were always friendly Our server always asked how we were...how was our day etc ...... We usually sat at the same table for dinner and left a couple dollars on the table. The resort itself was great because it was a minute or two walk to the beach. The sand was like powder and when u wanted shade you could either take shelter under the huts or at the restuarant/bar which is right on the beach. The food at beach rest. wasn't that good to be honest....... Instead take the short walk back (1 minute walk) to the resort and go to the buffet lunch. Trust me the buffet at the resort was much better. Their is lots to do at the beach beside drink and sit in the sun. They have daiiy volleyball games, dancing lessons, darts,.......... you can take out a kayak or a paddle boat or get an instructor to take you out in a catamaran. Outside the resort I suggest you jump on the tour bus and take a trip into Varadero. For $2US the bus will take you from one stretch of the island to the other. You can get off anytime and jump back on but you will have to wait an hour for another bus to come by. If you dont enjoy walking but still want to see everything take the bus. I also recommend that you rent a scooter. They range in price, but at the Hotel Villa Cuba they go for $9 US for the first hour and $3US for the next. Rent it for 2 hrs. I made the mistake of renting it for only one and I wish I had rented it for two cause it were so much fun. All in all I had a really good time and I would recommend staying there if it is your first time in Cuba. One more thing. They serve everything in small plastic cups so I suggest you take one of your favorite big travel mugs along. That way you never use a plastic cup (which only becomes litter on the beach), and you go for refills less often.
lots of fun, great place to stay.

we were there on Nov 2-Nov 9 and hotel was fully booked, weather was great, got a day of rain, cloud, and windy for 2 days. Beach is very beautiful, many drink to try, food was okay, i mean acceptable, but feel much better if you think about the price you pay for the trip; i also think the other restaurant may be the same anyhow. there are lots activities and exclusion trips to take, people and maid are nice, friendly, but frent desk service was "okay" their entertainment team put out great show night after night. This hotel try to be more environmental friendly and make some visitors feel unconfortable because they do not change bedsheet or towl unless visitors request.... but i think it is okay; so people can enjoy the beauty of nature next time. if you don't mind about food, and willing to go out and eat at restaurants outside(food is cheap there) you will love this place. I plane to go back next year.
I enjoyed it so much!!

I'm a 17 year old girl and I went to Villa Cuba with some friends and some adults. When I got there, I immediately went to check out the beach. It was beautiful and the ocean was warm and gorgeous. However, the food was pretty bad. It was the same old thing everyday and it wasn't very tasty. The Pina colada sucked, which was very disappointing, but some other drinks are pretty good. I suggest you give a tip to the bartenders now and then, because they'll treat you with more respect and kindness. The very first night my friends and I went to check out the disco in the resort. It was TOTALLY empty and we were sooo up-set! There's a few people that would come in, look around and then leave. The disco was just DEAD! However, the music was amazing and if you're with a big group of people, it isnt that bad. The last night we went, there were actually about 30 people in there. Umm, what else can I say...well, the nightly shows were ok, nothing extremely exciting. The 9th floor bar was a fun hang out for us, so check that out. Also, I suggest you don't stay in a Villa, they were incredibly ugly and not well taken care of. Stay in the hotel, its way better. Oh, and ask for extra toilet paper, cuz they're really cheap with that! haha..All in all, it wasn't terrible..but I wouldn't go back to Villa Cuba! It was okay for the first time, but thats about it. ;) Ciao
great place to stay

I just returned from a week vacation at the Hotel Villa Cuba in Varadero and I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The staff were all very freiendly, the food was fine (good variety and a la carte restaurants), the rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the entertainment staff were fantastic. We had so many daily activites to take part in and everyone we met there were pleased with the hotel. I am already planning my second trip there. If you want a great vacation....Go to Hotel Villa Cuba!!

I have recently come back from my three week stay in Varadero, Cuba. I went to Cuba for my honeymoon. The flight on the way wasn’t very pleasant, the staff were very impolite, the airline was Cubana Airlines. After the flight, we were checked very thoroughly at the Cuban... more
