Hello! My name is Yura. In this year 2005 I visited Cuba (La Habana, Comodoro, Cardenas). I very liked Comodoro. I was alone in Cuba. I have payment 31 $ for night in single room with breakfast. Breakfast - is excellent. Comodoro located on Marimar region, from center - 20 min on taxi or bus-shattle - it s free!!! Very good pool, wonderful view on the Mexico bay. Temperate - 95 F every day, no rain, many sun days. I advice your visit to Cuba, Comodoro hotel- 4 stars!!! Many good people in hotel. Nature, pool it s joy for good mans. La Habana -it s very old city. But pretty young women - 20-30 $ - no problem. I wanna go back to Cuba. It s possible for me. Cuba this is paradice for me. I havn` t visit USA (I don`t married, I have 600-700 $ for job in Moscow in mouth, but I wanna visit another interesting countryes). Cuba - is very good. Hotel Comodoro- hight class!!! You go to Havana (Comodoro), Varadeo, next town, if you don`t saw CUBA never. I wish you GOOD LUCK!!! I have foto site in Internet: Clubamigovaradero and Comodorolahabanacuba Thank you. Good bye. Your friend - Yura from Russia.

This was our second hotel we stayed at in cuba and we felt the area was better than the last, in fact we wish we had had more time to visit the city. We were in the bungalows and they were a good size with sitting area and tv. We had a mini kitchen with fridge, the bedroom was ok, the pillows gave me neck pain because they were very flat. The bathroom was standard - the water pressure was low and the water wasn't always hot. One night we found a cockroach! The food at the buffet was below standard, staff seemed moody, we went to the Italian restaurant where the food was good and value for money. The swimming pool was dirty and there wasn't enough sun shade. There were a few shops in the complex which were worth browsing in. The evening entertainment was lively and good for couples. We enjoyed the outside trips and getting to know cuba we recomend getting out there and having fun at club tropicana, we had dinner at el patio which was a beautiful building and wonderful food. There were plenty of taxis the only way of getting round we hope our review helped
A bit too far out of town

On a recent multi centre trip to Cuba, we started in Havana staying at the Comodora Hotel. This hotel is on the outskirts and not really suitable for a couple of days in the city, we we're on an escorted tour so transportation wasn't an issue for us, it is definately worth considering if you are travelling independently - stay at the Capitol which is really central or the National which is a little way out but fab, originally built by the Mafia - who says crime doesn't pay? If booking with Kuoni on the dicover Cuba trip, the Comodora will look like brand new 2 storey bungalows, these are on the same site but not the accomodation you will stay in (unless the main hotel is full!). The hotel is a tired and in need of some love and attention, the rooms are clean and spacious, the bathroom ok. Food - if you are veetarian you will struggle in Cuba, the main food options are chicken, fish, rice, fruit and rum.

Myself and my girlfriend have just returned from 2 weeks in Cuba, the first 2 nights of which were spent in the Comodoro and I'll remember them for the rest of my days for all the wrong reasons. Firstly, having eventually arrived after a 6 hour delay to our flight we were tired and in need of some efficiency on the part of the reception desk staff in checking us in and assigning our rooms. To our surprise we found that the comodoro has prepared by staffing the desk with two sour faced women who made it clear smiles only came with a supplement and when I eventually got to my room having squeezed myself and my partner into the minute lift with our cases balanced on our heads, I found that the key didn't work, unable to return to reception via the lift as it was already being used to squash other unsuspecting tourists, I found a staircase which had been liberally oiled so as to maximise the possibility of a broken neck. Upon reaching the reception desk the problems really started, one of the aforementioned sourfaces issued me with another key and a grunt to infer that the problem was with me and not the key. I returned to my room and as expected the new key didn't work. What followed was an instance of the worst 'customer service' I've ever witnessed as the receptionist rudely ignored me, refusing to discuss the matter and only after being repeatedly told the battery on the lock reader was flat (a helpful porter had intervened at this point) did she give me another room. Once you get into the rooms you wish you were still stuck outside! The bath screen is held together with filth and the bath fills up with other peoples hair when you pull the plug out!! Unequivocally the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, choose the comodoro at your peril!!
Great holiday

Feb 3 - 24, 2005 A week ago my husband and I returned from a WONDERFUL holiday in Cuba. This was our 10th visit to Cuba. We stayed in one of the bungalows which was delightful with a french door off the bedroom as well as the sitting room onto a patio - we were on the ground level. Service was good and we always had hot water, something we often did not have at other resorts we'd stayed at previously in Cuba. We had expected a selfcatering facility, but that was not so. There were no kitchen facilities, only a sink, counter, cupboards, fridge and 4 glasses. However, we do not fault the hotel. It is the tour operator Sunquest who is at fault in their brochure, advertising something that is not. We suggest they get their facts straight. We did not find the man made beach attractive at all, and the pools rather comical, they looked more ornamental and should have held gold fish. But that was not important. Right on the property is a "Cadeca" where money can be exchanged - most convenient. The shopping arcade was impressive and the transportation excellent. We went on excursions and often into the city using the hotel shuttle and returning by taxi, often the Cuban taxi which is cheaper. Another bonus; being a city hotel, we could entertain our Cuban friends in the hotel lobby and in the restaurants, which is not permitted at other resorts. We would certainly stay there again.
Not for the lonely

I stayed during the first week of January 2005. It is the kind of hotel to go with family and or a lot of friends. Food is OK, but rather to eat out. The bungalows are better than the rooms in the main building. We did without a fridge because no one came to fix or replace it. Very boring nights, with no entertainment. If you like to party, hit the town; especially “La Casa de la Musica” in Miramar (life entertainment $15 cover). What they call “natural pool” is ok, but it doesn’t replace the open ocean. Hotel is in need of repairs. Nice to have a street mall right beside the hotel. We’ll try a different hotel next time.

This hotel was like a bit outdated ,the rooms are in need of repair, there was a lack of hot water a couple of times and the shower was filthy. The maids never cleaned anything they just swept the dirt around or threw it out of the window, made the beds and changed the towels. Having said that it was a better standard of service than the other 2 hotels we had stayed at but still very lapse. Don't bother with the Tropicana cabaret. It's an outdated cabaret show somewhere between a bad copy of the Moulin rouge and a pantomime with costumes hanging together by bare threads! The dancers were out of time and the whole show was quite unprofessional. The only good part was the male dancers in their g'strings. Don't bother with the meal either! Havana is interesting and you must see it if you have taken the journey there. The buildings must have been amazing when they were new but its gone to ruin. Cubana airways I would not recommend either other than to appreciate the hours passed by a battery hen with no food or drink! Even I did not fit into the seats and I am small!! Heard of 'manjana'...well that sums up Cuba. I wouldn't recommend it for a relaxing break in the sun!

We were in Cuba for the first time Aug 11-16.2004. We arrived the day before the first hurricane hit. This of course caused some problems at the hotel, none of which is the staffs fault. We found them to be very friendly and as obliging as they could be. We did not speak the local language so made do with some words and lots of sign language. We were in the bungalows which though not really up to date were quite comfortable, 2 very quiet a/c's. The pool was ok but of course the hurricane caused some problems there. Of course no water was another problem, but we made do. One thing to be aware of is they have 110v and 220 v power points next to each other and they have the same connections. The supermarket in the complex was only open 2 days out of the 5 we were there. You have to produce your passport or give your room number when you purchase goods. The food at the hotel was fine, but maybe not to everyones liking. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and a good choice. The chef makes great omelettes. Security was plentiful so we felt at ease at all times. Cuban beer is quite good, especially Bucanerro, but make sure its very cold. At least they had fridges in the rooms to keep the beer cold. We would stay at the hotel again should we return to Cuba.
Would love to be there than here in the freezing cold!!

I stayed here in October 2004. I found the staff very helpful, the room basic but clean and nice view, food in the 3 restaurants fine, adequate shops nearby, swimming pools beautiful and the free evening cabaret marvelous (much better than the highly overrated and expensive Club Tropicana) Overall no complaints!!!

We flew with Virgin on a direct scheduled flight from Gatwick to Havana, which took about 9hrs each way. We had a delay of an hour on the way out and about 15 mins on the way back, which wasn't too bad. We were able to get an aisle and middle seat on the way out; on the... more
