Just arrived back from a week staying at the medusa, Katelios. Appartment 3 had a twin & a double bed room, 2 shower rooms and a tiny kitchen, kettle, hairdryer & fridge.
The rooms were clean with bins emptied daily & linen changed 3 times a week. Air conditioning cosy 8 euros a day & we needed it. It's a beachfront accomodation at a great price.
Sunbeds are no longer free - taxed by the government a set of 1 umbrella & 2 sunbeds is 6 euros a day
very quiet resort with fairly expensive food. we'd planned to cook for ourselves some of the time, but the kitchen was too small and the mini market too expensive. there are about 7 tavernas with almost identical menus (no goat)and a 3 bars, 2 mini supermarkets & a gift shop
very quiet & relaxing

I arrived home yesterday from my holiday in Katelios, Kefalonia, having stayed in the Medusa apartments. It was fantastic.
After arriving at the airport, it was only a 45 minute minibus journey to Katelios, however if you suffer from travel sickness i would advise keeping anti-sickness tablets to hand as the roads are very twisty and winding and can leave you feeling a bit funny. Also if you need money be sure to get Euros at the airport as there are no ATM's in Katelios. (The nearest ATM is in Skala, which is a fifteen minute air conditioned bus journey, with amazing views no less, which costs about 2 euros per person each way).
We were taken to the Medusa apartments, introduced to the restuarant manager (of the Medusa Taverna below) who was very friendly and pointed us in the direction of our room, on the first floor. To say i was pleasantly suprised is an understatement. The reception area of the Medusa apartments was immaculate, offering plenty of local information, excursions, books to read on the beach etc, and at the top of the stairs (before the rooms) was an outside courtyard containing plenty of beach accessories to keep us busy, including lilo's, rubber rings, bat n ball sets, etc, all free to use.
Upon entering our apartment we had a small kitchen area with sink, 2 x hobs, fridge, oven, plenty of cuboard space and 2 good sized worktops, this kitchen area then opened up into a living space (air conditioned) with two single beds either side of the room and led on to a spacious balcony with sea (less than 40 yards away) and mountain views, and a comfortable table and chair set. To our suprise, on the right of the kitchen area a sliding door opened to reveal a very large double bedroom (air conditioned), with a double bed (two singles pushed together), a large wardrobe, a dresser, and two bedside tables (plenty of draw space), another large balcony with the same views and furniutre and also an ensuite bathroom (with WC, shower, sink & large well lit mirror).
The accomodation was cleaned thouroughly every day, and plenty of fresh towels were supplied every 2 days.
The air conditioning is well worth purchasing. We were told it was 35 euros for 7 nights (5 euros per night) but it was actually 49 euros (7 euros per night). Even still it is a must. Not only is it perfect for a cool nights sleep but it is refreshing to come back to after a day on the beach. We didn't buy the air conditioning until night 3, but we wished we had bought it sooner, as it would have avoided the only negative we experienced during our trip, on the morning after night 1 we woke up to the horrific smell of the local sewage being pumped out by a truck.(PLEASE NOTE: This only happened ONCE during our stay, on the Monday, so i am not sure if it happens weekly or monthly, but it was just a one off), and night 2 was very warm & sticky, so we gave in and purchased air conditioning, which as i say, was superb.
We would usually have the balcony doors open all evening, as the smells of all the local food being cooked was delicous and really made us inquisitive to try all of the restaurants available to us, which we did.
I would recommend the Medusa restuarant for lunch, 'Fresko' for delicous juices & smoothies in the afternoon sun, and my favouite, the Katelios Taverna for breakfast and dinner, which had the most amazing variety of menu meals and in addition every night had 3 or 4 different specials, such as Mousaka, Ceramic Lamb or Sole fish etc. It was also incredible value, had extremely helpful staff (providing us free maps, books on local history and useful info) and generous service (giving us a free large bowl of greek yoghurt to try back in the apartment one night). After dinner if you fancy some more drinks try bar 'Music', which is good fun and good value too.
I would avoid bar 'Floridita' as i found them to be quite expensive (12 Euros for two cola's) and 'The Lighthouse' restaurant wasn't great service or meals either for the price.
If you are staying in the Medusa apartments you also get unlimited use of their sun loungers for the day on the fantastic beach.
In summary this holiday was amazing, there is so much i haven't detailed in here about local pools, excursions and things to see or do, but all you'd need to do is ask at the Medusa or Katelios tavernas and they will help you with everything you need.
A fantastic holiday in the perfect accomodation!

We have just returned from Kefalonia after a two week holiday.
The Medusa apartments are lovely and clean and Dina the owner was very nice. Dina speaks little English but if you need any help, ilaos(not sure how you spell it) who runs the Medusa Taverna will pass on your comments. The Medusa is a lovely place to stay and eat. Sun beds are free in front of the taverna's as long as you get drinks etc from there bar. There is also a nice bar that plays lovely music has a large selection of drinks and serves good food. The bar is called cozy's and is at the end of the main road, near the small harbour. Dreams is also another nice place to visit and is pass the cig kiosk, over a little wooden bridge and up a path on the left hand side, there are signs to the bar.
The sea is clear and shelves gently. A great place

A super late deal costing less than £100 each from Manos! Flight from LGW delayed by more than 5 hours ('ere we go!) however the flight with Thomas Cook was good with comfy leather style seats and a tasty breakfast.
A fast efficient transfer to the little village of Katelios takes about 50 minutes and the rep pointed out sites of interest on the way.
The Medusa apartments were clean and tidy -ours was huge with two bedrooms, two balconies and two bathrooms and a small kitchen area much more than we expected and even had Sky TV!, The view was over the ocean and although the location was in the middle of the village it was so quiet no noise.
Although The Medusa had a restaurant we did'nt use it instead we hired a car and eat nightly in Skala about 20 minutes away- there was more choice here and we could get an excellent Giros meal!- it was the end of the season and eating places were closing down nightly during our stay especially in Katelios where you would be lucky to see anybody after ten at night! The exception was at Albouro Restaurant on the beach and by itself, a lovely bar/restaurant good location and so friendly.
We hired a car for 3 days with Greekstones car hire in Skala- superb service and very helpful- toured the island which you have to do as it is so pretty.
Captain kostis boat taxi is a service to Skala and Poros well worth doing although safety is not a priority and you dismount the boat at Skala down a set of houshold step ladders!
Also in Katelios Kozy bar deserves a mention at the new harbour end of the village- very friendly and nice sandwiches!
The village of Katelios is in a great location is quiet and friendly the beach is'nt the best but there are sunbeds a plenty- I would return for a quiet relaxing break, however the construction of a new harbour and brash AI hotel may spoil this place in seasons to come.

Took in a late 1 week to Katelios staying in the Medusa Apartments, Top Floor Sea views. 2 bedrooms kitchenette shower room. have to give it 10/10 cos not much you can complain about, Great price from Manos trouble free travel there and back, the airport is a gem this time of the year, so quiet. Only one thing about the medusa top floor front, the balconies are very small other than that great.
The village is very quiet this time of the year and most tavernas are almost empty or closed in the evenings. Try the bar at the harbour end of the village nice man running it and the 'Garden' taverna.

The Medusa apartments are lovely - light and airy, steps away from the beach and tavernas. The bedlinen and towels are changed every few days and the bins emptied daily. We had plenty of space for two of us, a twin-bedded room plus a separate dining/kitchen room with double bed. We loved sitting on the balcony watching the world go by (slowly, in Katelios!) The only minus points were that the bathroom was designed as a wetroom - you don't need a degree in physics or engineering or a diploma in plumbing to know that this concept requires a low point in the room where the water can drain merrily away down the - er - drain; unfortunately the shower room lacked this basic feature, causing the whole room to flood every time a shower was taken, however carefully - and the shower curtain was for decorative purposes only. Also, the balcony in the apartment we had was v. tiny. And the pillows were mysteriously rock-hard. (Though my husband said his were fine.)
The resort is definitely for those who prefer quiet, even sedate, hols. Most teenagers would be bored witless. The sea is warm and clear, though not great for snorkelling.
We ate mostly at the Katelios Taverna - good food, reasonable prices, friendly sevice.
The beach bar near the tobacco shack is a great place for a chilled Mythos and/or snack; though not especially cheap, the location is second to none.
We don't do coach tours - but were glad we broke the habit of a lifetime in visiting the local travel office and booking an Island Tour; much the best way to see the sights of Kefalonia without the responsibility of steering a car round the hair-raising hairpins, with an interesting commentary about the island's history and customs along the way.
We also did Captain Kostis's fast boat ride to Poros (also calls at Skala) - great fun, with interesting views along the way. Captain K's first priority is clearly not Health and Safety, but none of us was lost overboard.....
All in all, a great holiday in pleasant apartments on a fascinating Greek island.

This was our second visit to katalios staying at the Medusa. Both my friend and I have fallen in love with this small village. The Medusa apartments have basic facilities but are very clean and well maintained. The owner and staff are very helpful and friendly and they go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. We recommend The Katalios Taverna for food...Sadie, Ilyas and sarah always made us feel welcome and the food there was always very good. Ilyas's mum is lovely. All in all it really is a great place to just unwind and watch the world go by. We both highly recommend both Katalios and Medusa. We have already booked to go back 2009

we booked a late deal with thomas cook flying thomas cook airlines and it was very very cheap so we expected very little and we just wanted a cheap week away.we checked in at gatwick and it was a very fast check in and boarded the 06.35 flight to kefalonia on a thomas cook a320 airbus,i had read poor reviews of the airline but was very suprised with the high level of service and the very nice breakfast served.leg room was a bit on the short side but im 5ft 11 and i was very comfortable.we landed and was met by a rep and taken to a very nice coach and taken to the lovely village of katelios and then to medusa appartments.the appartment was much nicer than expected with a nice balcony which caught the sun.the appartments are basic but you can certainly make light meals and snacks and a good fridge to keep the wine cold.it gets very hot in katelios and is 30 to 45c in the summer so its very wise to pay 35 euros for the week to have aircon switched on.katelios is a very quiet place to relax and enjoy the lovely surronds.the beach is fine the food is great and even with a poor euro its still good value.i will go back to katelios and will make a point to stay at the very friendly medusa appartments.katelios was the best £200 i ever spent and i was very sad to say good bye

Me my husband and my 10 yr old son went to Katelois on the 17th of July for a week I was a bit worried as I had read some bad reports about the beach but the beach was fine, we spent a lot of time on the beach.
There is not a lot to do at Katelois we went out on a few trips and my son met some friends who he saw most of the week the medusa apartment was very clean at the people that own it was very nice too.
There is a few shops 2 supermarkets and plenty of places to eat we found the medusa to be a bit expensive compared to the other places we ate in but a lot of the restaurants have free sun lounges if you are having a drink or something to eat there.
We met some very nice people who we have kept in touch with and I would defiantly go back to Katelois.

The rooms at the Medusa were ok but nothing special. We travelled as a family with two teenagers aged 17 and 13 and we could have done with a bit more room.
However, I think they would have been more than adequate for a couple. They were very clean and the owners seemed friendly enough.
The location was perfect, straight across from the beach with a supermarket just up the road, which sold just about everything and where you could also change any money needed.
Before we went I had read some bad reports about the beach but we had no problems with it at all. As very much beach people, I was quite concerned about that but I really shouldn’t have worried.
There was plenty of places to eat in the village and on our first night we ate in the medusa tavernas below our apartments but found that to be quite expensive compared to the rest of the places.
Our favourite place to eat was the Katelios tavernas a little way down the road, there was nothing you could fault about the place. The staff were very friendly, food fantastic, good price and right on the beach.
Also if you eat there you can have use of there sun beds on the beach for no charge.
It is a very quiet village, probably too quiet for our kids, but they did enjoy going to the Nemesis bar but it is a bit of a walk and if you decide to go in the evening remember to take a torch with you.
Finally I would go back to Katelios again, but not with the kids as it was a bit to quiet for them.
I would probably stop at the Medusa again but only if the price was right, otherwise I would try somewhere else.

Just came home from the best 10 days holiday i ever had, myself my husband and my twelve year old daughter had the most beautiful time so relaxing and the apartment was lovely traditionaly greek. Dina the apartment keeper is a lovely woman doesnt speak alot of english but enough to make our stay relaxing as she cleaned the apartment changed the bedding and empties the bins daily, and always had a smile and a greeting, Elioas in the Medusa restaurant below was a charming and generous man and very helpful with taxis and internet use and his restaurant food was beautiful. As my daughter found out the beach was 30 seconds from the apartment which we enjoyed every day (heaven) we will definately be going back !!!!!
