Lighthouse Apartments

from our relaxing holiday away to Katelios. We stayed in the Lighthouse Apartments, but unfortunately for us, we drew the short straw and was situated in apartment block 2 which are the higher level apartments (not bungalow). These apartments are run what seems to be separate from the bungalow ones which are very family orientated and welcoming, ours wasn't and didn't have a friendly service. The room however was clean and had the facilities required apart from a hairdryer as stated. No air con, but we did have a large fan. Block 2 is situated a little further away from the bungalows down a chalky gravel road, do take your torches with you as there is no light in the lighthouse on dark nights!!! On your departure from block 2 ensure you eat your shredded wheat as you will be made to carry all of your luggage down the stairs from your apartment, up the chalk gravel road, to the meeting point (the large bin) if you are being picked up; approx 150m, please note if it is 40 degrees as it was for us, there is no shaded area so be prepared......
There isn't a pool at the Lighthouse, however there is excellent pool facilities at Gallini, but a 20/25 minute walk away; not too bad depending on the heat and humidity. Blue Sea pool is also very good.
Lighthouse Restaurant offers 15% discount to its occupants.
On the upside the views from the apartments were very scenic and the cats extremly friendly....

This is the 3rd year we've been to The Lighthouse, and would like to update the previous entry made. The apartments are as good as ever, but now has the added bonus of air con, which is free of charge. This year we visited the 4 Brothers Grill House, which is a few minutes walk out of Katelios. If you like Greek Music, but don't want to go to a phoney 'Greek Night', go there. The owners children play traditional greek music every night, but omit the hype, it's well worth a visit.

Having spent the last 2 years in Lighthouse 2 (not the one shown), I can thoroughly recommend The Lighthouse. We were so thrilled in 2006 that my husband and I chose to take his son, daughter-in-law and 3 year old grandchild with us in 2007. We had 2 apartments and our request to be next door was upheld.
The owners live on-site, so are usually on-hand if there are any problems. There is an English cafe at the end of the road that does full english breakfast, bacon butties, pie & chips etc. for the less adventurous, and a handful of good Greek restaurants in the main village, including the apartment's own restaurant. The Lighthouse restaurant offers 10% discount to people staying at their apartments.
The apartments are spotless, they are cleaned every 2nd day, when the beds are also changed and clean towels brought in. They are big for greek apartments, and newly decorated. There is also the option of the use of the safe deposit box in the apartment for a small fee. They have the usual fridge, hob and sink facilities.
The owners are both really friendly and helpful.
Katelios is small and quiet. It has views of Zante from the beach, and is a conservation area for turtles. You can find out about these on Monday evenings in one of the bars, as the turtle trust give an informal chat to raise awareness about issues to do with turtle nesting.
The Garden restaurant is one of our favourites (round the back street that runs parallel with the sea front). It has a gyros bar as well as a restaurant & 2 people can eat gyros & chips for around 5 euro (a real bargain).
I would thoroughly recommend The Lighthouse as the best place I've ever stayed in in Greece, which is high praise, as we have been travelling to different islands for quite a number of years now. Georgia works so hard to keep the place clean, and the gardens looking nice. The restaurant stocks lots of fresh seafood (genuinely fresh, we've seen it being bought each day). The facilities are spacious, and the noise levels are very low. What more can you ask for?

Just returned from a 2 weeks stay at Lighthouse 2 apartments which are not the ones in the picture, but are owned by the same family and are located nearer to the family house which is also closer to the small quiet road that leads down to the beach etc (both sets of Lighthouse apartments are on the same small chalky path and within 100yds of each other).
We loved these new studios. They appear recently built and are single storey/bungalow types and are spacious and clean, with nice colourful furniture and nice bathroom which has a built in hair-dryer. There was a problem with hot water while we were there which was quickly sorted by the lovely and friendly Georgia. Cleaning was every couple of days, and towels, linen is replaced regularly. Only a ten minute stroll down the road the the small supermarkets and another couple of minutes to the beach. Lovely peaceful location, one of the quietest we've stayed at and the apartments have nice double glazed windows and shutters if you should need them. Still can't believe we got this holiday at such a bargain price as it's the nicest Greek Island holiday we've had.
Highly recommended apartments and resort for peace and tranquillity.

We have recently returned from a fantastic holiday in Katelios, staying at the Lighthouse apartments. We cannot understand why these apartments have only been graded 1 star. The only reason we can think of is that it does not have its own pool or air-con available (or a fan would be ok). Apart from that the apartments are fabulous, very clean, even a hair-dryer in the bathroom. The owners are very friendly and helpful. There are some apartments about 300 yards up the road from the Lighthouse that has a pool and snack bar. You are very welcome to use these if required. On the day of departure we used their pool and shower facilities having had to be out of our room by 10am. The people there are also very friendly.
Katelios itself is very quiet and peaceful, great for a relaxing holiday. Kefalonia is absolutely beautiful with so many places to visit and fabulous beaches. We have to recommend 'The Pines' in Skala for a 'bacon butty' for your mid morning snack with endless refills of coffee. Meals are great to.
We would definitely recommend Kefalonia and particularly the 'Lighthouse Apartments' in Katelios. We didn't want to leave and neither will you.
