fantastic holiday

"my family and I have just arrived home from a two week stay at the bellos apartments in crete

after a very long and tiring transfer from the airport ( usually 40 minutes} we arrived at 5:40am to find a very cheerful erik waiting for us to take us to our rooms. the holiday was amazing from then on.... relaxing by the pool, which is a good size and exceptionally clean..... entertainment nights- kareoke, barbeque and cocktail nights all great fun....... and exploring the nearby towns and villages.....going on boat trips at a reasonable price...... markets , cafes, restaurants...... and hiring a car .

the locals and staff extremely friendly and laidback..... nothing was too much bother and always time for a chat.

the owners, christos and maria were very welcoming and on site everyday working beside the staff.... very relaxing but also brilliant fun..... great place for making friends.

the dutch visitors were also fun to meet and we got friendly with a few of the youngsters..... no trouble or too much noise ...i wish some british young people were as polite!!!!!!

we went self catering but another time i would try half board as at the moment greece and islands are quite expensive to eat out and buying food from local shops.... although i discovered a lidals just a short drive from bellos on main road towards the watercity park direction ....... that would reduce cost greatly another time.

taxi's available at anytime ... short walk to hersonissos and also up hill to little villages about 20 minutes stroll......hills not too bad at all just slopes really .

all in all an amazing holiday for us all ....family of 7 ... thankyou erik, gary and the lovely smiley waitress maria ,

"we have just come back from a week at the bellos apartments in hersonissos and we had an excellant time from the time we got picked up from home till time we got home!!!we landed at 9.00pm crete time and were very quickly transferred to apartments where we were met by very friendly staff who took us to room and said come down to bar afterwards for a drink on the house and from that moment remembered our names !!!we were impressed !!apartment basic but fine. we had to pay extra for air conditioning but already knew that as had read that, on this sight , i think ,bar served food from about 8.00 in morning so had breakfast there and very good resturant at night from 6pm which was also great with gary serving us .we had a meal in a neighbouring village one night and also in hersonissos itself 1 night.all the food everywhere was lovely and all drinks also good. we were impressed particulary with all bars serving a shot with every drink even a milkshake!!town itself very very busy with alot of traffic msotly scooters and quads but once you get used to that it is fine. alot of shops and i mean alot. best bit though is all the seafront cafes, bars and resturants so much choice!!!.we went for one trip orgainised by first choice which was to Spinalonga. the guide was Constantide who was excellant.so much knowledge!!i have to say trip was a bit rushed but barbecue was good .beaches a bit small but very well set out and i thought very good idea that man with loungers etc also bring a small bowl so can wash your feet etc and also an ash tray. very good idea.on monday nights which was our last night at apartments they have an excellant barbecue at 15euros each with Greek dancers etc....the only drawback of whole holiday was perhaps the slightly steep walk from town back up to apartments but taxi trips easy at 6/7 euros .all in all an excellant holiday and wished we had booked for 2 weeks rather the 1. would recommend"

Great holiday!

"Just come back from a one week stay at the Bellos, loved it. For us it was a great base for sleeping, sunbathing and getting the odd snack in the day. It is situated in the middle of a hilly road, 10 mins down the road is the main town and 10mins up the hill (steep hill) are the villages of Piscopiano and Koutouloufari, both gorgoeus old villages with lots of taverna's, bars and craftshops.

Staff are very friendly, brother's Gary and Eric mainly. Room's are basic (as Greece is), safe and air conditioning charge is extra. Pool area is gorgeous with a garden area and parasols and sun loungers. Snack - bar area includes pool table, dartboard and internet access. A pool bar is open in high season. Mini market situated on the complex. Restuarant on site but we never tried it but other guests said it was very nice.

Overall i would reccommend this to anyone other than those with walking difficulties due to the hill.

So Friendly

"We stayed in Christos Bellos in September. We found it spotlessly clean, great food in the Restaurant and the friendliest place we have stayed in ever. The best possible review we can give is that we are going back this year."

Great apartments

"Location

The Bellos (Chritos Bellos) Apartments in Hersonissos are a great place to stay, we stayed from 3rd to 11th August. The apartments on about 10 mins walk downhill to the main town ./ strip of bars etc in Hersonissos and a 10 min walk uphill to the villages of Piskopiano and Koutoulafari. The walk downhill is unlit in some places but a taxi back is only 6euro (about £4ish). Hersonissos main centre is really busy _it was august_ there are loads of restaurants and bars and nightclubs - some are very lively and there are groups of people on bar crawls etc but never saw any really rowdy or groups causing trouble was more just fun to sit with a drink and watch them go by having a good time. We have been there and done that but now like to just sit with a few quiet ones - there are quiet bars - one side of the street it is bars / clubs etc and the other is restaurants or chilled out places with wicker seating etc where you can sit overlooking the sea and be served your drinks etc. so there is something for everyone.

The Villages of Piskopiano and Koutoulafari are really nice for a meal and quiet drinks it is very nice up there lots of traditional tavernas and also chinese etc - lovely lit up at nice with litle shops etc and great views down to the harbour. Also mini golf with a bar area and seating so seemed great for people with kids as kids were playing mini golf while the adults sat and watched with a few drinks - good atmosphere up there.

Apartments

The apartments are set in nice blocks with balconies with grape vines growing around them. The pool is a nice size and there is a small childrens pool also. There is a large bar area serving bar snacks and also a nice restaurant upstairs. The bar is very modern and has internet facility / pool table and nice seating areas inside and out. The bar does stay open til 6am but u don't hear it as they have to pull the doors across around 1ish and then it is sound proofed but is great if you fancy a quick drink when you get back in from your meal / town etc. Also there is a security man walking around and tells people coming in to be quiet etc. We weren't disturbed from sleep anyway as we had been drinking ourselves ha ha.

The rooms are usual basic two beds small kitchenette / fridge etc and bathroom - the bathroom is small and the usual where the room gets soaked cos no shower curtain but nice powerful shower and plenty of hot water every night. Very basic but clean enough and regular change of bedding / towels etc.

Rooms have aircon - you have to pay for that on arrival tho and pay for safe - the safe boxes are in reception as they have cctv there - you have a key and can access them when you please. Think its 54euro for aircon and the safe (about £30ish?)> well worth it tho as aircon is easily adjustable to suit your temperature etc and does get hot - it was at least 33 everyday and clear blue skies.

There are plenty of sunbeds for all and you will get one ever if you get up at dinner but if you want a shade then best to try and get up and get beds before 10ish. Also a great pool bar serving ice creams / cocktails etc with shaded seating area. There is a 5 a side pitch and tennis courts aswell (payable).

food etc was really nice - breakfasts etc. there is a minimarket right outside aswell sells everything you will need for self catering and souvenirs etc or there is a massive spar in Hersonissos at the bottom of hill and cash point there too. Thats where to get a taxi from also around by the spar supermarket.

Daytrips

we only did one daytrip as we just wanted to relax and only went for a week so we went to the water city water park which was great pick up by the travel / excursion shop across from the spar and drop back at the same place was a really good day out lots of slides etc and plenty sunbeds etc. There are loads of other trips aswell to go on that look good.

Beach

The beach at hersonissos - there is a tiny beach along the main strip and a bigger one around the other side of the harbour - neither of which are fantastic - there are sunbeds and watersports and cafe bars etc but water is rokcy and beach is coarse and horrible disgusting irritating people throwing fag ends in the sand - that really winds me up stupid bone idle idiots that they are = but we went one day and we are more pool people anyway. The water is very clear but beach just ok - however apparently there is a really nice blue flag beach at Stalis - the next resort along.

Overall staying at the Bellos was great and we woudl stay again as it was a nice place and the courtesy room is available to all and is very clean with shower and toilet - one for men and one for women. I would recommend the Bellos to all as there was a real mix of ages etc - there are groups of single sex but they weren't rowdy etc and the staff are very helpful and would make sure anything like that was dealt with anyway I imagine was a lovely relaxing place in the day and night with either busy town or nice quiet villages - depends what you want.

restored my faith in package holidays

"Nice, small & friendly resort; well-run. The rooms were basic but clean, although the curtains were too thin and didn't block out enough of the light. The air conditioning units weren't the best. There are grapevines growing from most of the balconies and the patio and pool area are well laid out with a large expanse of open green space to sunbathe in, and a picturesque mountainous bakcdrop. The staff were helpful and the owner was quick to curtail any rowdiness by the pool and to keep the noise down late at night and early in the morning. There is a weekly BBQ which is great value for money. The location is great - quiet, but only 10 minutes walk downhill to Hersonissos - for shopping during the day and clubbing at night, or 10 minutes walk uphill to the traditional villages of Koutouloufari and Piskopiano where there are some great restaurants. I would definitely stay there again."

The Christos Bellos Apartments were...

"The Christos Bellos Apartments were excellent. They were cleaned every day and sheets changed regularly.

Staff were friendly (if sometimes a little strict) and arranged several events throughout the week.

The pool in the complex was spotless but a little deep. It sloped from one meter at the shallow end to three meters at the deep end which meant that about one third of the pool was being used by two thirds of the bathers.

There is a kiddie’s pool but unfortunately it's beside the deep end of the main pool...bad planning.

The complex is about halfway between Hersonossis and Piskopiano. Only ventured to Hersonossis during the day and thought it was an awful kip. Especially the main street. You're taking your life in your hands trying to cross the street.

If you fancy a premature meeting with the man above then try using a pedestrian crossing!!! Having said that, the younger members of our group loved it.

Piskopiano on the other hand was much quieter. More laid back which suited us old fogies. Some great restaurants except for the restaurant at Asterias Village. Had the misfortune to be served by the most arrogant waitress of all time. Young, pretty but a right cow.

Food prices varied depending on the surroundings. Drink seemed cheap until you realise you're only getting about 0.4 of a litre.

Overall, while we had a great holiday, I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back to Crete. Some of the people (especially bus drivers and taxi drivers) were quite aggressive and made you feel unwelcome. It was like, I'll take your money, but I don't really want to give anything in return.

Would definitely travel with Panorama again though. Their reps were excellent. Assertive in a friendly way.

Would also recommend Christos Bellos......if only they could move it to Lanzarote!

Back to Bellos...........again

"Having found out about the improvements that Christos had made to the apartments we decided to go back again. We were not dissapointed. The new bar is just amazing and the restaurant was fantastic.

I've posted some pictures (including one of Eric on Karaoke night!) and also one from the barbeque night - some greek dancing.
