we have just come back from a week at the bellos apartments in hersonissos and we had an excellant time from the time we got picked up from home till time we got home!!!we landed at 9.00pm crete time and were very quickly transferred to apartments where we were met by very friendly staff who took us to room and said come down to bar afterwards for a drink on the house and from that moment remembered our names !!!we were impressed !!apartment basic but fine. we had to pay extra for air conditioning but already knew that as had read that, on this sight , i think ,bar served food from about 8.00 in morning so had breakfast there and very good resturant at night from 6pm which was also great with gary serving us .we had a meal in a neighbouring village one night and also in hersonissos itself 1 night.all the food everywhere was lovely and all drinks also good. we were impressed particulary with all bars serving a shot with every drink even a milkshake!!town itself very very busy with alot of traffic msotly scooters and quads but once you get used to that it is fine. alot of shops and i mean alot. best bit though is all the seafront cafes, bars and resturants so much choice!!!.we went for one trip orgainised by first choice which was to Spinalonga. the guide was Constantide who was excellant.so much knowledge!!i have to say trip was a bit rushed but barbecue was good .beaches a bit small but very well set out and i thought very good idea that man with loungers etc also bring a small bowl so can wash your feet etc and also an ash tray. very good idea.on monday nights which was our last night at apartments they have an excellant barbecue at 15euros each with Greek dancers etc....the only drawback of whole holiday was perhaps the slightly steep walk from town back up to apartments but taxi trips easy at 6/7 euros .all in all an excellant holiday and wished we had booked for 2 weeks rather the 1. would recommend

The Christos Bellos Apartments were excellent. They were cleaned every day and sheets changed regularly.
Staff were friendly (if sometimes a little strict) and arranged several events throughout the week.
The pool in the complex was spotless but a little deep. It sloped from one meter at the shallow end to three meters at the deep end which meant that about one third of the pool was being used by two thirds of the bathers.
There is a kiddie’s pool but unfortunately it's beside the deep end of the main pool...bad planning.
The complex is about halfway between Hersonossis and Piskopiano. Only ventured to Hersonossis during the day and thought it was an awful kip. Especially the main street. You're taking your life in your hands trying to cross the street.
If you fancy a premature meeting with the man above then try using a pedestrian crossing!!! Having said that, the younger members of our group loved it.
Piskopiano on the other hand was much quieter. More laid back which suited us old fogies. Some great restaurants except for the restaurant at Asterias Village. Had the misfortune to be served by the most arrogant waitress of all time. Young, pretty but a right cow.
Food prices varied depending on the surroundings. Drink seemed cheap until you realise you're only getting about 0.4 of a litre.
Overall, while we had a great holiday, I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back to Crete. Some of the people (especially bus drivers and taxi drivers) were quite aggressive and made you feel unwelcome. It was like, I'll take your money, but I don't really want to give anything in return.
Would definitely travel with Panorama again though. Their reps were excellent. Assertive in a friendly way.
Would also recommend Christos Bellos......if only they could move it to Lanzarote!

My Boyfriend and I booked a last minute holiday and to be honest were prepared for the worse as we have heard a lot of horror stories from people 'allocated on arrival'.
When we arrived after a pleasant flight we were amazed. The apartments are beautiful.
The ground of the apartments is in a lovely setting with fantastic views of all the mountains around you.
The rooms themselves were always kept tidy and we had great self-catering facilities in our room. We did arrive to find two single beds so I would specify if you want a double.
Almost all rooms had their own balcony which was great on the hot nights. We even had grapes growing all around our apartment as well as melon and lemons.
The pool isn't that small but once a few people are in it, it can seem full quite easily.
There was a lovely pool bar and always lots of lounges but I would say that if you want shade get there before 11.
The hotel has 2 places to eat. The Bellos restaurant which although a little pricy compared to the town is superb and has a large choice on the menu. There is also a snack bar with lots of your standard burgers and chips for a quick bite.
You will never be short of places to eat here. The town is a fair walk away but it is downhill so doesn't seem too bad. Its getting home that’s the problem because it’s quite a walk. I would advice that anyone with younger children be prepared to take taxis back to the hotel.
The town of Hersonissos is lovely. We, my boyfriend and I visited both Malia and Heraklion and we were glad we ended up where we were. Hersonissos is a mainly Irish and Dutch part of Crete which was great for us because we found it really interesting to try the Irish breakfasts and Dutch 'fricadella'. Saying this everyone spoke English and you can always find all the English sports on the TV’s and English breakfast. One nice bartender even put the cricket on for my boyfriend.
There is also a smaller village 'Piscopiano' 10 mins walk from the hotel which is quieter and has lots of quieter cocktail bars and restaurants. We ended up trying all the cocktails during happy hour at '3euros each and had a lovely Chinese and Greek meal there during our stay.
The staff at the Bellos were lovely. Very friendly and have a great memory for what you like and are always willing to help. Our bartender even spoke a little Welsh which was great for us. I would say be prepared for lots of groups of lads and girls but we also saw lots of families. There is a great bbq night although a little pricy it was nice to try. And they have karaoke and pool tournaments. The music wont even bother you as the whole building is sound proofed and after 12 the doors close so the music won't bother you. The bar is open till 6 in the morning and it’s amazing to try and figure out when the staff sleep!
I would say that the air conditioning is quite expensive. It was 6 euros a night which after 2 weeks is a lot of money. Also the on site shop sells everything you'd need but there is supermarkets and a 'Spar' in the town which sell more range of products and at cheaper prices.
Defiantly would think of going again as Crete is a lovely place. Would recommend it.
P.s try the Kleftiko and accept the free raki shots after your meal. the proper Greek experience!

Hi stayed in the Christos apartments for two weeks June 05 was very happy with the place rooms were lovely and the couple Maria and Christos who owned it were very nice but they take no messing.
I was with a gang of 6 and we all liked it here there is gorgeous scenery all around and nightlife is a 20min walk away but if ask at reception they will order you a taxi. Pool bar opens till very late so you can always have a late drink but they shut the doors over so not to be noisy there is a pool table there also.
They did a Barbeque once a week and we went twice as it was lovely food and only cost 10 euro. There are lovely restaurants on the main strip with plenty of choice. Over all had a great holiday in Crete and Apartments were great. Lovely Italian restaurant called Vesuvius behind fishing shop staff are lovely. People from Crete are very nice. Go there well worth it.

An exciting holiday - or so I thought
I don’t often go on holidays as I have a very busy lifestyle, but when a friend from my old home in Ireland asked if I wanted to go to Crete I jumped at the offer. The holiday was a really good deal I thought - about E200 for the week and flights included...an offer I couldn’t miss.
Because my friend was in Ireland I had to get a Ryan air flight to Dublin, then a 4.30am flight to Heraklion. Easy I thought, but I was to be proved wrong.
At the airport I was shocked to find that somebody had walked off with my case! all my items for the holiday were in there. I felt sick. I spent the early part of the evening and the early morning before my flight trying to find the luggage. finding someone to speak to was terrible, but I managed to get a phone number.
I couldn’t sort out my bags before my flight, so I bit the bullet and jumped on the plane. Calling from Heraklion I sorted out my bags, they would be over the next day. it was a hassle but at least now it was sorted....on with a good holiday.
The apartments were a bit small, but the resort was really nice. great scenic views, friendly staff, a very helpful rep, things were looking up.
the first day over I slept. the second day I travelled back to Heraklion to go to the markets. after hours of walking we found the market wasn’t in the town but just outside. However we found that the town was charming and spent the good part of the day enjoying ourselves. the restaurants are lovely and recommended. the hospitality is amazing, people are very friendly.
However later in the evening we went out. the bars are typically touristy near our apartment. we did have a good time. On the way back walking to our apartments however my friend was mugged by a passing bike which skidding over after she fought for her bag. the guys on the bike put up a fight with me and my male friend, so we gave the bag up. the police were competent but only slightly helpful. one tip - travel to places by taxi, its fairly cheap if spread across many friends.
The next day went without too much of a hitch, when I went out in the evening my mate got overly drunk and a long walk home ensued. Alcohol is given quite freely by people trying to lure you into bars and they egg you on to drink....a lot. they charm the ladies and use the men’s pride and egos to sell product... beware we had a story of someone on our resort being molested by a barman who had got her drunk. Greece has the highest number of British citizens rapes outside of the UK so beware! take safety precautions!
The next day we decided to go to the nearby seaside resort, where we tried the doughnut rings. I went on with two female friends. The driver of the speedboat does go faster till someone falls off, and he does favour the ladies staying on, so I became a target for him to fling off. I hit the water a high speed after his over zealous attempts to fling me! I ended up going to hospital when I reached the shore due to swallowing too much water. It was a horrible ordeal. The ambulance services are brilliant, but the hospital was pushy for money and phoning home to get my insurance details with time consuming and ending up taking a whole day to organise. Keep your details handy in case of this.
The holiday was riddled with further trials, so the last two days I spent my time relaxing, the last day travelling up through the mountains and finding a charming restaurant with friends. The Greek people are wonderful hosts, are the views from the mountains are stunning. Though the holiday was a nightmare I still found myself liking the country, it was charming and I regretted the fact my experience didn’t go better, and that I didn’t get chance to see everything the island had to offer.
In conclusion I would say that Crete is more than a boozy holiday resort. Its a warm and friendly island which has some brilliant views of a landscape so different from our own. I would say the nightlife was more dangerous than I expected, but ours is too in this country. Take a lot of money with you and go see the hidden Crete, you won’t regret that.

my family and I have just arrived home from a two week stay at the bellos apartments in crete
after a very long and tiring transfer from the airport ( usually 40 minutes} we arrived at 5:40am to find a very cheerful erik waiting for us to take us to our rooms. the holiday was amazing from then on.... relaxing by the pool, which is a good size and exceptionally clean..... entertainment nights- kareoke, barbeque and cocktail nights all great fun....... and exploring the nearby towns and villages.....going on boat trips at a reasonable price...... markets , cafes, restaurants...... and hiring a car .
the locals and staff extremely friendly and laidback..... nothing was too much bother and always time for a chat.
the owners, christos and maria were very welcoming and on site everyday working beside the staff.... very relaxing but also brilliant fun..... great place for making friends.
the dutch visitors were also fun to meet and we got friendly with a few of the youngsters..... no trouble or too much noise ...i wish some british young people were as polite!!!!!!
we went self catering but another time i would try half board as at the moment greece and islands are quite expensive to eat out and buying food from local shops.... although i discovered a lidals just a short drive from bellos on main road towards the watercity park direction ....... that would reduce cost greatly another time.
taxi's available at anytime ... short walk to hersonissos and also up hill to little villages about 20 minutes stroll......hills not too bad at all just slopes really .
all in all an amazing holiday for us all ....family of 7 ... thankyou erik, gary and the lovely smiley waitress maria ,
