We stayed at the Foundoulis for a week on recommendation from a family member who had been 3 times before.
Yes, the apartments are basic but more than adequate. They are spacious and clean and we found the staff to be very helpful. There were 7 in our party including our parents who are elderly and when they were give an apartment on the top floor we asked if they could be moved and it was done straight away to a room on the ground floor.
We stayed for a week and we had no intentions of cooking so we were not expecting to use these facilities. The apartments were cleaned every day except Sunday and we had regular clean towels so we were more than happy. If you are using it as a base and you are not expecting luxury then no problem. We were hardly in our apartment only to sleep and shower so it was perfect for us. It is in a good location for a short stroll to the beach and also the town square. In our opinion it is the perfect place to stay and we didn't encounter any problems.

we had a dreadful experience came back from an evening meal to find someone had been in our room and stolen money and other expensive items, there was no forced entry. the same evening two other apartments had the same experience. staff did not seem to be bothered and the lack of security is very disturbing, the apartments are basic , be sure before you go that this security issue has been dealt with

We are going to Georgioupouli for the third time in June of this year and we are so looking forward to this.
We are to stay as always at the Foundoulis apartments. Yes Maria can be a bit funny until you get to know her. But please do not judge the book by its cover as I am reading here.
Yes you have to pay extra for the Air Con and the safe but that is the same anywhere!!!!
The rooms are as you would expect basic but they are comfortable, in the room is a tv and in the bathroom a hairdryer. The rooms are cleaned every day except sunday.
Take my advice go to the local bakers and get whatever you fancy, bread, cake etc for your breakfast. Then the rest of the day eat out it is so cheap.
May I also tell you about Dolpin Taverna the Guy that runs it is so friendly and after your first visit he will present you with a 10% voucher that will run for the rest of your holiday.
Also Mikes oasis is great well worth a visit.
The people are so friendly here.
Georgioupouli is such a great place and I am so looking forward to spending another week there somewhere where your phone will not work, and you can just chill away from the hum drum of everyday living. Enjoy!

The beds at the Foundoulis are so hard, like sleeping on bricks. We were so tired at the end of our seven day holiday there. The reception at the Feriniki was staffed by a very rude and unhelpful young man, he spoke hardly a word of english and was not interested in checking us in at all. We were tired after our journey and could have done without the stress of dealing with him, very rude man. Our shower fell to bits on the fourth day and I went to report it to him, he just waved me away and refused to deal with it. The apartments were so noisy all night long that sleep was impossible.
I would go back to Georgioupolis, but I would NOT stay at the Foundoulis again.

The hotel Fereniki or the many other names it goes by deserves a mention. I have been to Crete a number of times and am used to the culture and the food as well as the hospitality. However like most holiday takers I was just a little concerned that the hotel might not live up to my expectations.
In short this holiday was not worth the money that I paid, you might well be thinking that I am tight and used to a 5 star hotel. You could not be further from the truth as I have said I have been to Greece many times before and have stayed in a wide range of different star rated hotels. However fereniki does not deserve to receive a star rating at all.
Having arrived at the airport at Heraklion airport I was not surprised that the place was a disgrace no organisation no order basically travellers being moved around like lost sheep.
Having arrived at the Fereniki hotel I was met by a very nice German couple, who after a brief conversation explained that they was checking out, by the looks of them he was not happy and looked like he just wanted to get out of there.
I suddenly became aware that there was no staff anywhere too be seen. Room keys had been dumped on the counter along with a few individuals ID cards which was some what concerning.
Having waited for about 1 hour calling for anyone who could assist me in getting into my room I succumb to the fact that no one was going to come, no one was going to help me a paying customer get the room that I had paid for. A second bus arrived and other two lambs to the slaughter arrived asking the same questions that I had asked all of 1 hour ½ ago.
Another ½ hour went by and a tired unfriendly staff member arrived with his hands in his pockets. Telling us that we was making to much noise. When we asked if we could please check in to our rooms he was quite rude stating that we should have woken the guy who was meant to be on the desk.
Forgive me am I missing something, how am I someone who has flown half way across the world going to no who and were his staff members were meant to be. After presenting himself as a rude non-helpful employee, he demanded our passports of which he would keep until we leave.
Why would I give my passport to a person who does not have a badge, a uniform, and had a stack of id cards out in the open that could have challenged the tower of pizza. No chance.
To cut a long story short none of our rooms were ready for us, bed sheets that was meant to be white had a deep brown look to them, the toilets well lets just say the last resident left what he thought of the hotel floating in the bowl. First impressions count well I thought that it could not get any worst, at 7, 30 in the morning with no sleep no food the other travellers asked for a little breakfast.
He then pointed out the window and said we could eat at the restaurant. Well we just needed food and some fresh air so we went. The breakfast was cold spam, not the kind you get out of the tin, the bread was hard and sun baked and the tea and coffee could have come form my sink back home. I had paid for food for the duration of my stay but by that standard I would have ended up in hospital quick.
So we tried our best to get something down us but it just was not working.
That night: Well the rooms are ok in size however there was no air conditioning you actually had to pay 5.00 E per day for the pleasure even if other hotels of similar ratings had it free for guests. The mosquito’s well they had a fun old time. To get a decent night sleep I had to use my mosquito spray like napalm. But it did not work I work up looking like the thing form the fantastic four.
And the smell of raw sewage great view shame I have to walk about with a clothes peg on my nose. I really can not understand where these so called good comments have come from. Look I am all for giving good comments but I really don’t have a good word to say.
The other stupid thing was that to make a complaint you had to log a complaint with the hotel so that they can resolve it, the only person who you could complain to was the person who had been a major factor in you having to make a complaint. Basically if you want a cheap holiday don’t go there it’s not cheap.
As for the 3 star rating I’ve broken it down.
One star for the fact that the sun was out
Two star for the fact that you have a roof over your head
Third star for the fact that the local people in the village are ok

On arrival we had to check into the Hotel Fereniki, this was an experience in itself. The kids stood 20 minutes in the scorching sun while went in for the keys, the rep sat chatting and totally ignored us instead of helping.
The rooms were very basic with only one wardrobe for four of us. Towels were only changed once in a week and the bed linen not at all which with the hot temperature I think was a disgrace. The air conditioning unit from the above apartment constantly dripped onto our balcony, this made it very slippery and dangerous. The cleaners did clean 6 times in a week if you call a quick mop round and leaving the floor like a swimming pool cleaning then that’s what we got.
The staff were not very friendly and not very approachable at all. We were put on the ground floor and the noise was terrible starting at 7am with the cleaners going into the store room which was situated next door to us. I am by no means racist but I thought we would have some British people around us, we only saw a couple of English families and the rest were German and very ignorant. We were the only English people in our block which the children found quite hard.
The holiday rep was totally useless and didn’t seem to understand or even care why we had complained. I will never go on holiday with Manos again a total shambles from start to finish and I would not recommend these apartments to anyone.

Had read bad reviews of this accommodation but they proved unfounded.
The Foundoulis apartments were spacious and clean and the staff very helpful. We stayed for a week and the apartments were cleaned every day except Sunday.
They only have two cooking rings and so I would definitely recommend eating out, especially as the resort has some fabulous tavernas with really tasty food that is still really cheap.
The most expensive meal we had was £70 for 3 adults and two kids and we all had 3 courses, a bottle of wine, 3 coffees, and 2 cocktails!

On the way to Georgioupolis one of my fellow travellers said he had read bad reviews of the Foundoulis Apartments and the Hotel Fereniki on a website, so wasn't expecting too much.
However, both he and I were very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, comfort, and quietness of the apartments. In spite of being a very large complex, one was hardly aware of fellow guests at all.
The pool area was very pleasant and it was such a lovely change to be able to lie on a sun lounger and just listen to the birds in the trees instead of being deafened by loud music.
The staff, when we encountered them, were friendly and helpful, although the reception desk could be a bit better organised.
On the whole, I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday. Georgioupolis is a lovely little resort, with excellent transport connections to Rethymnon, Chania and further afield and I would definitely recommend it and the Foundoulis to anyone.

There has been much talk on various sites as to whether the Foudoulis apartments and the Fenreniki hotel are run by the same people. The answer is yes as we had to check in at the Fenreniki hotel.
The room was very basic and was not ready when we arrived (although staff did sort that out straight away). In general the apartment was very tired looking and so was the towels and crockery. The room was cleaned daily (except Sundays) and towels were replaced if dirty on a daily basis. The bed linen was also changed more than the stated once a week.
I must admit I have been to Crete before and the apartments I have stayed in were more basic than the ones I've stayed in, in Spain. So bear that in mind if you have never been to Crete before.
I would definitely go back to Georgioupolis as it was a lovely small village and we felt safe. However I would stay in a more up market apartment block as I was desperate for my own bed by the end of the fortnight.

There were 7 in our party (4 adults and 3 children) booked into the Foundoulis. If you are looking for accommodation that is cleaned 6 days a week then this may be for you. Unfortunately the cleaning amounts to a quick mop and that’s it. Towels were changed 3 times over our 14 days and bed linen twice. Our apartment was meant for 5 people but these only had one wardrobe in the bedroom and that was it. We basically lived out of our suitcases or had clothes laid out on the third bed that was located in the bedroom. The kitchen had no storage space other than a table.
There was insufficient cutlery, crockery, glasses and cups to even have your breakfast with, which thankfully was the only meal we were preparing in the apartment. The apartments are actually quite spacious but lack in storage and basic self catering amenities. There wasn't even a dustpan and brush to clean up after yourself!
The apartment we were given eventually, was actually the third we had been given the keys to. The first was occupied! The second was for three people when there was four in my party (the Manos rep actually tried to tell me that this was what I had paid for even though it was obvious that the sofa's were not beds!)
My eldest son was staying with his Nan and Granddad and their apartment was also for 5 people but again suffered the same complaints that we had. Their air conditioning did not work either and they had to haggle to get their money back!
I saw the swimming pool cleaned only once in the 14 days we were there. My daughter had earache the day after the only time we let the kids into the pool. There was also 3foot high drops around some ground floor apartments next to the pool that had no rails up to stop young kids falling. There was even one near to the shower located at the poolside.
You would think that Manos must inspect the complex and apartments to ensure that they are of a standard that is acceptable but after my dealings with the Manos rep I would say that I would have severe doubts because frankly she seemed to have difficulty in understanding why I was annoyed at being given the wrong apartments and spent more time apologising to the complex manager than helping me.
As for Georgioupolis it is indeed an excellent holiday location with good beaches. Many locals still live in the village and it helps to instill the feeling that you are living amongst them and sharing their village. There are numerous tavernas around the village that provide a very warm welcome and serve excellent Cretan and Greek cuisine. There are also plenty of bars to enjoy a glass of Mythos although the best bar is without doubt The Cotton Club (located on the waterfront) where Mathew and his wife provide a very warm welcome in very pleasant surroundings.
Sitting in the Cotton Club looking out over the med with a cold glass of Mythos is without doubt one of the highlights of Georgioupolis. If you do venture to this part of Crete then pay a visit to this most friendly of bars.
The only downside to our holiday was the Foundoulis. It wasn't just us that had problems. We often saw new holidaymakers of various nationalities waiting outside their apartments for them to be cleaned before they could even move in and every one had the same problems over towels and bed linen. But overall I would definitely recommend Georgioupolis as a perfect holiday destination but would suggest giving the Foundoulis a wide berth!

If you want an easy going quiet holiday your in the right place ,the apartments are basic but very clean maids everyday fresh towels every 2 days and linen changed every 3. The outlook from the balcony was breathtaking the mountains didn’t look real! At the back of us was a field with 4 goats chickens and rabbits the kids named the goats and we didn’t need TV as they escaped into next doors field and i don’t think the owner was impressed they ate his veg, better than any soap.
The town is great all set around a square you can eat fairly cheaply we found a taverna called rodarios fantastic food family run and went back there when we ate out (my husband was eating his way down the menu), the people couldn’t do enough for you very friendly. the beach is just down the road you can walk the coastline as far as you can you have to pay for beds but cheap and if you want to go home for dinner just leave your towel and go back its not a problem the sea was warm and not to rough plenty of fish and dolphins, there is a river running from the mountains further up and sea is icy cold around there great for the kids they plonked a lilo on and rode down it.
Just off the square there is a pool called oasis which was 2euros for your beds same again a change from the beach you could leave your stuff to get dinner or eat there very clean and friendly. we all really enjoyed it here and I'm on the net at the moment searching to book again same place .hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

I spent 14 days at the Foundoulis Apts and found it a dreadful experience...on arrival we found we had no towels we were given 2 hand towels (for 3 of us) and thats all we got for the first week. We were given clean sheets and towels after 9 days and 3 complaints. The air con was extremely noisy and quite ineffective, nothing was ever done about this. The rooms are large but poorly equipt for self catering, only 2 electric rings and a fridge. We had no kettle or toaster and a minimum of cuttlery and crockery, 1 cup, 2 saucers,2 knives, 3 forks but lots of spoons, 2 plates, 2 bowls, a cullinder, frying pan and a saucepan. There were no ashtrays or even a corkscrew. The shower attachment on the bath taps only worked by piling coins under the knob to keep it up...these disappeared every day when the cleaners had been in.
It was only the fact that Georgiopolis is such a stunning place that stopped this holiday from being the worst I can remember.
