The villa maria apartments are...
5 / 10
Aug 2008, Miss V Dann

The villa maria apartments are situated in a lovely area- very close to the beach and close to all ammenities. when we went to 'check in' we realised there was no where to do this and spoke to the maid, and after having trouble understanding eachother, guided us to our studio apartment. the room was fairly basic however very clean and presentable. the cooking facilities consisted of a two ring hob, a kettle, a fridge/freezer and adequate cutlery and utensils. if you wish to cook anything complex these appartments arnt adeqate enough.
The bathroom is nice, however the shower was a walk-in-shower and you tend to saturate the bathroom floor with water after a few minutes. we also found the water temeperature varied depending on the time of day/night you had a shower. our balcony was very small however it did overlook a very nice view of the pool and the beach.
The rooms have no air conditioning which we didnt find to bad if you open the balcony doors at night. you can also rent a fan for about 10Euro a week. The rooms also had no safety deposit box which was a little worrying at first, however the area seemed pretty safe and we had no trouble throughout our stay.
I would definatly recommend staying in kambos as it is a lovely area which was not too busy, had a wide selection of resturants (all of them great) and is accommodating for everyone.

Just back from Villa Maria & we were very impressed. We had a 2nd floor room with lovely views to front & rear- very light & airy & clean. From what I could see the ground floor 'maisonettes' very quite dark & I heard the stairs were a bit scary but judging by the number of people who were there for the 2nd,3rd & 4th times they must be OK.
The pool was very well maintained with plenty of sun beds & we had it to ourselves most of the time.
The beach was good & lots of excellent places to eat. We never had a bad or even average meal the entire fortnight. We liked Blue Bucket, Sail Away & Nick the Greek best & Muses was very good too but no outlook.
The Votsalakia tavern is worth a visit for the view alone. A beautiful island & we will be going back soon.
The only complaint we had was the noise from the bar next door (which I believe is owned by the son of the owners of the Villa Maria). It was a bit much but luckily we had taken note of the comment in the brochure & took earplugs so it didn't bother us at all.
I can't wait to visit Samos again.

We have just returned from a holiday...
4 / 10
May 2006, Mrs B Wilson

We have just returned from a holiday to Samos and stayed in the Villa Maria whilst we love Samos, the Villa Maria isn't the best place to stay. In front of the place there is a lively bar that stops open until the early hours.
The apartments were dark and really old - we had a spiral staircase in our apartment which was not really safe - loose wood on the stairs and the rails were just screwed into the floor and a bit wobbly to say the least. The fridge must have been years old and ants everywhere. Although I must add that the people who owned the Villa Maria were very nice and the Manos Rep - Kate was really nice.
All in all the place could do with a little updating. The best taverna in Kambos/Votsalaki was the Muses and if you get chance go to the Taverna Balconi on the way to Pythagoria - the views are stunning and the food is good.

Jul 2004, Mr D Wilson

Clean and pleasant hotel. Staff and owner friendly and helpful. Nice swimming pool. Overall good value.
Kambos itself is a delightful resort still retaining the feel of the "Real Greece". The is an excellent selection of tavernas considering the size of the resort The beach is long with a mixture of sand and shingle. if you want to see the island hire a car(not through the tour operator unless you want to pay 3 times the price). For a small car you can pay as little as £19 a day fully comprehensive. Both Hermes and Avis are good.
Kambos is the place to come and unwind, we came back fully relaxed. The locals are very friendly and seem genuinely please to see you. They are not pushy and do not employ hard sell tactics. The biggest drawback is the resort is isolated. There is no bus service or water taxis and you have to go over the mountains to reach the rest of the island which is well worth seeing.
In our opinion Kambos is best suited to couples that want a relaxing holiday in an un-commercialised resort. do not come here if you want music bars, the resort tends to close down by midnight.
